It's Mojo in the Morning Show. You never believe this. guess who Megan says is gaslighting her you know we talk about gaslighting all the time with second date updates and our war of the roses and horribly you know uh being treated by whoever the person is you're in a relationship with I never heard of this though um I think a therapist is

00:02:43 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 5:

trying to gaslight me and I'm not okay with this I think I'm slowly starting to lose my mind do you Did you go to therapy? So, used to. Okay. Been a while. Going through it recently. Finally decided to bite the bullet. Yay. Good for you. Make an appointment with a therapist and start going back and focusing on myself in a good way, not in a bad way, because let's be honest, I'm very self-centered, but like in the worst ways possible, so let's fix that. But I decided to make an appointment with this really interesting therapy group. I don't want to call it like a private practice because there's a ton of doctors there. So it's not just like one or two people. There's a bunch of people. And I was like, this is great because they do the whole like shop around method. If you sit down and you're not like vibing with your person, they've got like a million more for you to try out. And I was like, you know what? I like that. That seems pretty convenient. So I went online and I was signing up to try to make my first patient appointment. And you fill out a whole bunch of paperwork, like who your provider is, what you're looking for, yada, yada, yada. And in it, it asks for your phone number and your email address. And then it asks which way you would prefer to be contacted. So I fill it all out and I said, I'd really like to be called because I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. And I feel better instead of just, you know, sending 10 emails back and forth. Give me a call. Let's talk about it. I'm excited to hear your response. I don't get a call for 48 hours and I'm checking my email and I'm not getting anything either and I'm like well that's kind of interesting they said they had availability and I checked it a couple of hours later I got my email and there was it was an email from the office and they said hey yeah we were going through this probably going to need you guys to give us a call so we can try to talk through it ma'am I said in both sign up sheets that I wanted to be called you emailed me and then had the audacity to tell me that I needed to call you are we dating already I'm getting gaslit by the guy that's not even my therapist yet so I

00:04:52 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 4:

have to tell you that it is a I was talking to Jacob about this my son my My middle son, Jacob, just got his.

00:05:00 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 1:

um his master or his uh yeah his masters and now is working on his doctorate in psychology and so he's going to be a psychologist um which he can't see me i've asked him already i was like can i get the friends and family discount like i can't do that but he was we were talking about it he said it it's a six month minimum waiting period on a lot of times getting into a therapist or a psychiatrist because there's so much mental health issues that are going on out there nowadays and it's crazy I shouldn't use the word crazy it's wild how I feel bad for the therapist too like they can't keep up and they're having a hard time keeping up and I think a lot of these people a lot of people who are therapists or psychiatrists and stuff maybe aren't the most business savvy of people so a lot of times they don't know what to do but it's tough though because here you are you have finally gotten the courage That you say to yourself I gotta go get therapy Right Cause it takes a long time It's Honestly I say Going to therapy Is like for me Going on a diet I always sit there And I talk about it Talk about it Talk about it And then finally one day Something hits me And I go And if you don't get If you can't get into somebody It stinks

00:06:10 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 2:

I mean when I When I got You know When I started going to therapy This was like 2016 The day I decided I needed to go to therapy I was like I need to go today Like you're A lot of times it's like you there is something there is some sort of crisis happening in your life or inside of your you know your head that you you can't wait yeah a month for to be fair when you're

00:06:35 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 3:

filling out their information online it was like are you needing to talk to somebody more immediately or is this something that like it's not necessarily an emergency to come in and i did mark that it wasn't an emergency to come in so they they did have a it seemed like a different process if you needed help right now you'll probably be put near the front of the line versus people who are like I can wait a little bit it's fine I just need to make the appointment eventually which I did really appreciate when I was reading through it but what I found interesting was if you follow me on social media a couple of days ago I posted up on what Facebook looking for a new gynecologist yeah I saw that and because I just love asking people for the doctors and it was so interesting Nearly every recommendation took our health insurance, but when I was looking for a therapist, that was not the case. It was way more difficult to... Mine doesn't. Yeah, I was surprised, and how few of them each one takes. So it listed who took what insurance, and all of them only took like one or two.

00:07:38 - 00:07:41 | Speaker 1:

I have an idea for a business opportunity.

00:07:42 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, tell me.

00:07:42 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 1:

I'm thinking of doing this, maybe I might, this might become so big if there really is this, you know, much mental health issues going on right now. I'm thinking about doing drive-through therapy where you talk to me through the drive-through and then at the end of the whole thing, we give you an order of whatever the food is Because I think to myself all the time about when I go to my therapist, there's sometimes where I'd like to go face to face with Dennis, but I don't because I'm so crazy busy here at the station lately that I'll sometimes be calling him on the road to go see him. So I'll say, let's just do it on the phone. So we'll do it on the phone. I kind of like it a little bit because I like the idea of just having a conversation and talking. and then I can run errands while I'm doing the whole thing too.

00:08:38 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. Well, we advertise for that better help, which actually I know a lot of people who use it and it's basically like you do it all online and you, it's like a Tinder for therapists. Like truly you go on there and you see profiles and you choose the therapist that you feel like you could best match with.

00:08:55 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 1:

Do you visually see them then?

00:08:57 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 2:

Yes. And if you don't like him or her after the first visit or first couple of visits, you go back in and you pick somebody up.

00:09:04 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's like, well, it's like the office that Megan was talking about.

00:09:06 - 00:09:10 | Speaker 2:

You can see their immediacy, you know, or you could see their availability, excuse me.

00:09:10 - 00:09:15 | Speaker 1:

It's really cool. Do they buy you a drink? I don't believe they do. Do they buy the-

00:09:15 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 2:

I've never used it personally, so I can't attest to that, but I'm thinking-

00:09:19 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 1:

Honestly, Megan brings up a really interesting point about this place, because I only have gone to therapists that somebody has recommended to me, and we talked about this on the More Mojo podcast a couple of days ago, which you should go listen to it, because it was very deep what we got into. We did a little couples therapy type thing with all of us as a show. But if you don't like the therapist that you go to, it sucks because you start off telling them your life story for like the first four sessions. And then all of a sudden for a session, you're like, like, I want to know right away. Kind of like a date, right? You want to know if the person's worthwhile.

00:09:55 - 00:09:57 | Speaker 2:

Well, you want to get past all the small talk.

00:09:57 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:09:58 - 00:10:22 | Speaker 2:

And get to like the meat of. You know, the date or the issue. I've gone to therapists before, and I talked about this in the podcast. I've gone to therapists before. They've given me the worst advice ever. Like, literally, literally told me to get divorced, like, right off the bat. Go get divorced. You should get divorced. I'm like, thank you. And then asked me if I wanted to talk to their friend who is a divorce attorney. I'm like, wait a second. There's a scam going on here. Kayla, what's up?

00:10:24 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 1:

Hi. I texted in that you can actually go to a website that's psychologytoday.com, and you can literally go in the filters, and you can put in, like, it has all the insurances. You can just click on your insurance. You can click, like, if you prefer a man or a woman. I mean, it literally filters out all of the psychologists in your area.

00:10:46 - 00:10:54 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. Kayla, it's so weird that you just called. As you said, Psychology Today, my cousin Ellen just texted me and said, Yay, Psychology Today is a great resource.

00:10:55 - 00:11:03 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's awesome. It must be a good one. I mean, that way, yeah, you don't have to, you know, call and ask, Oh, do you accept my insurance? Yeah, that's great.

00:11:03 - 00:11:20 | Speaker 2:

You know what, though, sucks about this? Like in Megan's case with this, you know, whoever, psychologist, therapist, whatever it is, is that in life, rejection is the hardest thing that we deal with, right? It's such a hard thing to deal with getting in relationships. Nobody wants to be rejected by their therapist, you know?

00:11:20 - 00:11:21 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, oh, yeah.

00:11:21 - 00:11:30 | Speaker 2:

Can you imagine? I wonder if this ever happens. Can you imagine if your therapist tells you that they're breaking up with you because they don't want to go out with you anymore or don't want to deal with you anymore?

00:11:30 - 00:11:32 | Speaker 5:

I'm sure that that has happened.

00:11:32 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 2:

I bet it does. Yeah. That's, like, painful.

00:11:34 - 00:11:36 | Speaker 5:

Like, I'm sure that that relationship can get real toxic.

00:11:37 - 00:11:39 | Speaker 2:

I need therapy for my therapy. It's not good.

00:11:39 - 00:11:40 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:11:41 - 00:11:48 | Speaker 2:

Megan, I don't know why you just don't answer or call me and let me just give you advice. I've always given you good advice

00:11:48 - 00:11:53 | Speaker 4:

Who's to say I'm not going there to talk about you Oh things just got a little serious

00:11:53 - 00:12:01 | Speaker 5:

I never talk about any of you guys You're so full of it I am so full of it Did you hear the sarcasm in my voice

00:12:01 - 00:12:07 | Speaker 2:

Swear to God that you've never brought Any of us up Oh no I absolutely have brought all of you up

00:12:07 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 4:

Oh that's terrible That's even scarier Not media That was an interesting thing that filtering by men and women Do you guys have same-sex therapists or opposite gender?

00:12:20 - 00:12:29 | Speaker 2:

I've always wanted to have a sexy therapist like Tony Soprano had and The Sopranos, but I always have guys like dudes, you know?

00:12:29 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 5:

Poor Dennis.

00:12:30 - 00:12:35 | Speaker 2:

Guys that wear tweed jackets always look smarter to me than people that don't wear tweed jackets.

00:12:35 - 00:12:45 | Speaker 4:

I feel like I need a woman to relate to my problems, but I also want a man that won't... I don't know, to give a different perspective. I was having a really hard time with this.

00:12:45 - 00:12:50 | Speaker 2:

What if you walked into your therapy office and Harry Styles was what the guy looked like?

00:12:50 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 4:

I would go, it's a pleasure to meet you. This isn't going to work out.

00:12:55 - 00:13:06 | Speaker 5:

Whatever you do, make sure your therapist doesn't have stomach problems. Because I had one and his stomach would gurgle from the time I sat down until the time I got up. And that's all I could focus on was counting the gurgles in my head.

00:13:07 - 00:13:10 | Speaker 2:

Was he hungry or something? Maybe it was around lunchtime that you were scheduling this.

00:13:10 - 00:13:16 | Speaker 4:

Maybe he had something going on, but I could not focus. What do you wear? Do you wear something comfortable or do you look professional?

00:13:16 - 00:13:40 | Speaker 2:

Honestly, my best therapy sessions are usually when I'm wearing like, I don't know, like a sweatshirt or something like that, like really low key. I've often said this too about therapy offices, Megan. They sit in the more comfortable chair than they give you because they're sitting all the whole time and it pisses me off. Like I've often wanted to ask my therapist if I could have his chair because it looks more comfortable than the one that I get.

00:13:41 - 00:13:42 | Speaker 5:

See, it's the opposite at Karen.

00:13:43 - 00:14:17 | Speaker 2:

Oh, really? karen your therapist gives you the better chair it's a it's a love seat she gives you a love seat very cozy yes iphone you should call chelsea hold on a second we gotta call chelsea real quick i don't know if she's uh if she's up uh she's got to be up by now she's not up by now then they're call the call the ems chelsea used to love going to therapy with me when we would go to marriage therapy because chelsea chelsea will you tell megan and shannon what I would do when we were in couples therapy? Sleep.

00:14:18 - 00:14:20 | Speaker 3:

No. Oh, no. Yes.

00:14:22 - 00:14:22 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:14:23 - 00:14:34 | Speaker 3:

I would. He would go in. Yeah. Would you like to say what you would do? No, go ahead. You tell. He would go in and tell our counselor everything that was wrong with me and then take a nap. No.

00:14:34 - 00:14:41 | Speaker 5:

He just, okay. Did you just leave him sleeping so then you could tell the therapist everything that was wrong with him or would you try to wake him up?

00:14:41 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 3:

um well we drove together so we would but at the very end like so he would it was a couple months but then I ended up working on stuff for you know about myself and did my own little therapy and then um I remember the last one of the last times we've been several times

00:15:00 - 00:15:06 | Speaker 2:

last times we went um he said okay so when are we going next week I said well we're not going next

00:15:06 - 00:15:19 | Speaker 5:

week because I'm good you can go she got her therapy well honestly I honestly I didn't really want to go to go back to therapy he had such a comfortable couch it was a very comfortable couch

00:15:19 - 00:15:24 | Speaker 1:

and it was very warm and it was kind of in a basement so I get it but yeah it was it was

00:15:24 - 00:15:35 | Speaker 5:
