All right, Mojo in the Morning Show. So, Mike, it's a superstition since your childhood. You still do it, and you want to know if there are others that have, like, weird superstitions that they do?

00:01:43 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, yeah. I don't know if anybody does this when they see a penny on the ground and it's heads up, but you immediately pick it up. Like, I stop everything I'm doing. It doesn't matter what it is I'm doing. I could be in the middle of a conversation, walking down the road. In the middle of the road, if I see a penny, I'll at least walk over to it, pick it up, look at it. If it's heads up, I'll keep it. If it's got the birth year of myself, I have a jar for it, so I'll put it in a jar. And then once I had kids and got married and stuff, now if it's my wife's birth year or their birth year, I also take them and put it in a jar as well. And it's like, in my head, it makes my day better.

00:02:23 - 00:02:36 | Speaker 5:

You're like particular. So I always just pick up the heads up ones and I always leave the tails up ones down because I, for some reason, was told that that was like bad luck. But I've never looked at the years of the coins that I have.

00:02:36 - 00:02:40 | Speaker 6:

Oh, yeah. If it's tails up, I flip it over so that somebody else can walk up to it and have good luck.

00:02:40 - 00:02:53 | Speaker 5:

Does somebody know, by the way, what I can do with a whole jar full of change? because I was going to go bring it to the Coinstar machine that they had at Kroger and I didn't realize how much money they take at that thing.

00:02:54 - 00:02:56 | Speaker 2:

Can't you turn it into gift cards and not be penalized?

00:02:56 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 5:

Oh, really? I didn't know that. I mean, I'll do that.

00:02:58 - 00:03:01 | Speaker 2:

I know my sister turns all hers into gift cards.

00:03:01 - 00:03:10 | Speaker 5:

That's a great idea. I'm so superstitious, Mike. There's a long list of superstitions like tying shoes and making sure that you have your shoes tied.

00:03:11 - 00:03:19 | Speaker 2:

You know what I did the other day? I realized I still do from when I was a kid I can't even remember why we used to do it When I drive past a cemetery I hold my breath

00:03:19 - 00:03:21 | Speaker 6:

Oh really?

00:03:21 - 00:03:34 | Speaker 2:

And that was a thing And I can't remember I honestly can't remember where it stems from But just very It's almost involuntary at this point I do it every single time The kids asked me about it the other day And I was like oh my god I still do this

00:03:34 - 00:03:39 | Speaker 6:

I do remember as a kid we did it But you're absolutely right Like why? Yeah there's no reason behind it Yeah

00:03:39 - 00:04:09 | Speaker 5:

We always would make the sign of the cross If we drove by a cemetery or if we saw an ambulance or a fire truck or something like that. Yeah. That was always kind of like the little superstition that we did. I can't believe, though, that you actually pick up the coins and just look for the years, and then you'll – even if it's like a dime or a quarter, will you put it back down? No, just pennies. Okay. Because dimes and quarters, it's instantly in my pocket. If it's a silver. I don't even care what it is. Yeah. Heads or tails? It's going in my pocket. What's going on, Amanda?

00:04:09 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 8:

Hi. I was just calling to let you guys know that whenever I see a coin that tails up, I flip it, and then I leave it so the next person can get good luck. Just like Mike.

00:04:20 - 00:04:24 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, yeah. That's a lot of work, though. Do you have to see what it lands on, though?

00:04:25 - 00:04:27 | Speaker 2:

You don't flip it. You turn it over.

00:04:27 - 00:04:34 | Speaker 5:

Oh, you flip it over. I thought you flipped it like they do in football to see who's going to get the ball first. No.

00:04:35 - 00:04:35 | Speaker 7:

No.

00:04:35 - 00:04:48 | Speaker 5:

yeah um uh what's going on raquel how you doing hello good how are you good what's up first time caller yay a lot of them i love it we've been getting a lot of first times lately

00:04:48 - 00:05:29 | Speaker 8:

i i heard that um you guys were just talking about how you were uh holding jannon was holding her breath for the cemetery i did that when i was younger and Thank you.

00:05:00 - 00:05:03 | Speaker 7:

my dad actually had to turn out of traffic

00:05:03 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 6:

because... Turn down your radio. Turn down your radio, Raquel. It'll screw you up.

00:05:10 - 00:05:11 | Speaker 7:

Can you hear me?

00:05:11 - 00:05:13 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, turn down your radio. It's going to screw you up.

00:05:13 - 00:05:20 | Speaker 7:

Yeah, the radio was up. I was like, it's echoing like crazy, but I had to turn out of... My dad turned out of traffic because he was afraid I was going to stop breathing. Oh, God.

00:05:21 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 1:

Was it a big funeral or cemetery?

00:05:24 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 7:

Oh, no. Right on Airport Highway in Holland, right where the... Oh, yeah. cemetery is there's a stoplight right there and yeah we were in debt he was like okay i'm just

00:05:34 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 6:

gonna turn out then and we'll take a different road mike okay so people are texting saying we used to hold our breaths when we passed the cemetery so that the ghosts don't enter your body so they don't steal your soul that's what it was i would have not held my breath just to hope that

00:05:51 - 00:05:57 | Speaker 1:

they would have stole my soul to see if you can experience it you know um what's up uh mike Listener Mike.

00:05:59 - 00:06:03 | Speaker 5:

Hey. Hey. First time caller. Oh, my gosh. I love it. Man.

00:06:03 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 1:

I'm running out of air horn. I actually have to, I might have to go and get myself a new one at the sporting store. What's up?

00:06:11 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 5:

Hey, I just wanted to call in because I do something similar to what Mike on the show does. When I find a penny that tails up, I look around, though, because I was always taught no one can see you flip it, so it's got to be like a secret. So that way they don't know if it's heads up or down.

00:06:23 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 1:

How old are you, Mike?

00:06:25 - 00:06:25 | Speaker 5:

I'm 30.

00:06:26 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 1:

As a 30-year-old man, don't you find it kind of weird that you're actually having to look around like you're doing something wrong?

00:06:33 - 00:06:39 | Speaker 5:

No. See, I've almost been hit by a bus to pick up a coin because I'm a new mid-vented coin collector.

00:06:40 - 00:06:49 | Speaker 1:

Really? The man almost killed himself to pick up a coin. I love to know that there are guys that still coin collect. Oh, heck yeah.

00:06:49 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 5:

It's still alive. It's actually more popular than ever thanks to COVID.

00:06:52 - 00:07:02 | Speaker 1:

Is it really? Wow. My dad was a coin and a stamp collector And he would do it all the time And he got really upset that it never passed down to the kids Becky what's up

00:07:02 - 00:07:11 | Speaker 8:

Yes when you go by Cemetery and hold your breath Did that when I was a kid too And it's because you don't want to breathe dead air Oh that's another one

00:07:11 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 1:

Yes what happens if you breathe dead air You die

00:07:15 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 8:

You die

00:07:15 - 00:07:23 | Speaker 2:

By the way

00:07:23 - 00:07:25 | Speaker 6:

We need to go home.

00:07:27 - 00:07:33 | Speaker 1:

This is why you don't take edibles this early in the morning. I just want you to know that.

00:07:34 - 00:07:37 | Speaker 8:

Megan, I'm not sure. If I had an edible, I'd have it. I'd take it for sure.

00:07:37 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, you would? Should we do edibles? By the way, should we do a special day of the week where we just do edibles? Yes. Weed Wednesdays.

00:07:44 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 2:

That would be awesome.

00:07:45 - 00:07:47 | Speaker 1:

Weed Wednesdays. That's a great idea.

00:07:47 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 2:

There'd be a lot of dinner.

00:07:48 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 1:

Sponsored by, and we'll have it sponsored by. What's going on, Cliff? what's going on guys hey what's the superstition that you do it was uh when we were little and

00:07:58 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 4:

you were walking down the street like a telephone pole or a light pole and one of us would split the pole everybody get pissed off like hey don't split the pole what are you doing it's gonna be bad luck so we have to like go back around never heard of that one no but that's funny all of us growing up

00:08:12 - 00:08:30 | Speaker 1:

all of us growing up i do that with my family if we're if we're at like the airport or the mall like where there's a couple of escalators and if my family goes on one escalator and i went on the other i make us all go back down and go back on the same escalator really because i feel like something bad is going to happen to somebody in the family if that doesn't happen it's like

00:08:30 - 00:08:40 | Speaker 6:

splitting the pole yeah sometimes i'll find myself if it's like a floor that is like a grid or even on the sidewalk like you inadvertently you're not even realizing that you're not you're purposely

00:08:40 - 00:08:46 | Speaker 1:

not trying to step on the cracks yeah so it's the same thing cliff if you split the pole you have to

00:08:46 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 4:

go back and redo it all over again right yes nobody in the group will let you continue that walk with us everyone stops with yeah it's a big problem yeah grandma slapping upside the head wouldn't she if you didn't oh yeah grandma grandma was one of those people that would literally grab us by the ear and say you gotta go back you have to go back and it was not a game so yeah we carry that all the way up until like my kids now i'll mess with them i'll say hey don't split that pole

00:09:13 - 00:09:21 | Speaker 1:

Thanks for the call, man. I appreciate you, Cliff. Thanks, guys. Abigail, what's up?

00:09:22 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 3:

Hi.

00:09:23 - 00:09:24 | Speaker 1:

Hey, what's happening?

00:09:25 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 3:

Not much. Well, I got a superstition for a year that I had since I was a kid.

00:09:32 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, what was it?

00:09:34 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 3:

Well, I spit on the broom whenever it touches my feet.

00:09:38 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 1:

You spit on the broom.

00:09:40 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 3:

What?

00:09:41 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, yeah. So the broom that you use to sweep your floors, to keep your house clean, you actually have saliva all over it?

00:09:50 - 00:09:52 | Speaker 3:

No, I clean it once a week.

00:09:52 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 1:

Oh, you do? Okay. Why do you spit on the broom?

00:09:55 - 00:09:57 | Speaker 6:

Like, what is the superstition? Why do you need to spit on the broom?

00:09:59 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 3:

All right, so.

00:10:00 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 5:

Whenever the dream supposedly sweeps your foot, it says that you're supposed to go to jail later in your life if you don't spit on it.

00:10:09 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 4:

I feel like someone was playing a trick on you, and they haven't let it up yet.

00:10:13 - 00:10:16 | Speaker 5:

My entire family does this.

00:10:16 - 00:10:19 | Speaker 4:

Did anybody in your family have to go to jail and this happened to?

00:10:20 - 00:10:24 | Speaker 5:

My mom said that her uncle went to jail after she swept his foot.

00:10:26 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 4:

Wait, what did he add? Do you think this was her way of not telling you what he did for his crime? Oh, it could be.

00:10:35 - 00:10:40 | Speaker 5:

It could be. He'd still do it after like 30 years. You know what you need to do?

00:10:41 - 00:10:43 | Speaker 4:

Google your uncle. Is that who you said it was?

00:10:44 - 00:10:45 | Speaker 5:

He died in prison.

00:10:46 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 4:

Google his name because I guarantee you there's a fun story of why he went to prison.

00:10:52 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 5:

I'll call you back tomorrow and tell you what it was. Thank you.

00:10:56 - 00:11:11 | Speaker 3:
