This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first time I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. All right, so I was watching yesterday, the news, and they showed that yesterday was Groundhog's Day, which I didn't even think this thing was still around. For some reason, I thought they canceled that. Like, that was part of the whole woke moment when they were like...

I think they tried to. Are there, like, rules for betting on that, like there are for, like, major sports leagues? Because what's keeping the guy from announcing if they saw the shadow or not from betting on that?

And you know what? I don't know. Does DraftKings or any of those places have that? Do they really? Because I would think it's all a lie. Because the guy who

picks out the what is it? Groundhog. He's a little groundhog thing.

Can y'all explain that to me? So if the groundhog sees its shadow, that means it's six more weeks of winter or something like that? I think. Here, hold on. Let me pull up the story here. Because when I lived in Tucson, Arizona, they didn't have a hedgehog or whatever. I think they had like a snake or something like that. And then somebody told me that in Royal Oak, that the city of Royal Oak, the zoo has one. Has a what? Has an animal or something. I don't know what it is.

That predicts weather? Yeah.

I don't know if it's a goat or something, but there's other cities that have these things.

Because if we deal with another January ever in our lives, that was the longest month of our lives. Like, it felt like it was 365 days and not 31 days.

February is off to a great start, though. Because, I mean, Beyonce won, the Luka trade. The hits are just keep coming and coming.

There's a lot of good stuff going on. I just don't know. I don't know if I could put up with six more. Is it six more weeks?

We haven't had a winter. So what's the problem with dealing with six more weeks of this? What is she talking about? What?

We had like two days of snow.

What? We've had, come on.

It was literally 50 degrees like a week and a half ago.

It was, Megan, it was minus 20 degrees. For like a day or two. Are you living in the same city as I'm living in? There's no way. You must go, do you go home and just hang out in the apartment with the blinds closed and we just don't know that?

No, I just, I think that everybody's so funny when it comes to cold weather. They're like, winter has been so long. I'm like, it's been in the 40s most of the time.

By the way, the only good news to this whole thing is that stupid groundhog has predicted the last couple of years that it didn't see its shadow. So that means that there was supposed to be a shorter one, and it was not a shorter. I felt like the spring did not come fast enough.

So he's wrong.

states like a home for people it may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm your roommate you have a rec center but it's still a place you can go meet new people classmates put in the hallway make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that it's just a place you could feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or any 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.
