I have a story to tell that is going to prove that I am worse than a helicopter parent. I'm going to call this a snow day parent. And I wanted to know if any other parents have ever done this. So, yesterday, in our listening area of where I live in Detroit, the weather was just awful. Was it like that in Grand Rapids, too, in Toledo? Was it really bad, like, freezing rain, or did you guys just get other stuff?

We got regular rain with, like, a little winter mix, and then it's kind of died off. All right.

Megan, I know you got rain. Did you get any of the pellets, the ice pellets? With two Cs, cold rain. so we got like ice pellets that turned into another spit show out on the streets and as the day went on i kept thinking to myself i wonder if the school is going to let the kids out early because of what happened and then i got the alert from the school that they were closing one of the entrances to the school because power lines went down and i'm like oh crap um and i have a driver so i luke is a 17 year old and he drives and now he's been driving for over a year but i have to be perfectly honest with you i don't care how long you drive when you're driving with ice out on the roads and it's just crazy nobody's prepared for that so i sent him a text and i said hey um before you come you know home i want you to check in with me if you want i'll come pick you up and then we'll come get your car later because i noticed that the temperature is going to rise later in the day so i knew that it wouldn't be that bad and then i would drive him home well of course he's 17 years old he's too cool to have dad come pick him up he's like I don't want dad he's like what is this thing he always does this to me and it's so passively aggressive pain in the ass he sends back to me where does he get that he goes I'm okay that was his comment I'm okay you're okay so I thought to myself I'm like, well, what happens, you know, God forbid he gets into an accident. And I can follow him because he's on an app that, you know, you can kind of like follow where he's at at all times. And then I thought, well, I'm still like 35 minutes or so away from his school. So this is where the helicopter parenting came into play. I got in the car and I drove towards his school and I followed him home.

I probably would have done this. I don't know myself. I would have been so damn worried.

By the way, I'm a horrible private investigator because I was trying to tail. No, he had no clue that I was doing this.

Does he know now?

Well, he will know. I think he's got a late start today, and so I don't think he's even listening at this time. But if his friends are listening, you do not tell him. So what I did was I ended up parking off to the side, and then I looked to see on his app. I could see him kind of pulling out on the street and coming down. And then I started freaking out because I couldn't get a left turn to get out to kind of follow him. So I'm kind of like going slow and then watching him. And I'm looking at him going, and as he's in front of me, I'm going, he's going too fast. He's going too fast. And then I thought, do I call him up on the phone? But my problem is I call him up on the phone, then he's now distracted with me.

So I'm trying to figure this whole thing out. And I don't know, if you have a teen driver, and Spike, I know you've had two, but anytime they leave the house, you have fear. But imagine when they leave the house and you got ice stuff out there, you know?

Well, I always make sure where my kid is. I have a 29, a 27, and I have a 17-year-old. And I always make the two older ones look on the snap map and tell me where she is. So if she's not where she says, I can call her. But normally, I said, if she's driving somewhere, I'll send one of my older kids even by there to make sure that, you know, she's driving okay. If no kid likes the way the other sibling drives, I don't care who it is.

Right. So now you're causing fights between the brothers and sisters.

Right. But my question is, when you followed Luke, how well did he drive? He was actually very good.

Well, first off, he took – so I think what ended up happening was he put it into a navigation on his phone. and it took him a different way which was smart because it took him towards more so like streets that were a little less fast and so i think he was he was good he was actually i i'd be honest with you i wanted to comment to him when we got home and i wanted to say to him how great he drove

but then that would give me away right you want to travel on yourself i actually said to him i said

to him i go hey so how was the drive home knowing exactly what it was lance what's going on hey hey

yes almost at the time that school was getting let out yep all right you've got a second set
