This is Dr. Laurie Santos from the Happiness Lab. Have you ever considered how the smallest details can create real emotion? Lexus does, like the feeling associated with the sound of a turn signal or the touch of a button as it's pressed. At Lexus, master craftsmen called Takumi are involved not just in physical craftsmanship, but in sensory details. These masters evaluate things like how a door closes, the click of a switch, the acoustic feedback of controls. Because a car that doesn't make you feel something is a car that stops short of amazing. Experience amazing at your Lexus dealer.

mojo in the morning show so you gotta come clean on something the other day I was dressed nicer than I normally am normally I just wear like like a sweatshirt you know pair of jeans or sometimes I'll just put it like on a quarter zip and a polo shirt or something and the other day I was dressed a little bit more professionally. I was wearing some black pants with a gray sweater and a button-up shirt. And I was asked the question of, why are you dressed so nice?

00:02:36 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 5:

It was really complimented and then asked the question.

00:02:39 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

Well, that was it. That's true. You did say thank you for that, too, the compliment. You just say, you look very nice. What's going on today? And I just, you know, kind of came up with a bunch of BS. Well, I couldn't say what I had to say or what truthfully I was doing because i didn't know if i could and then i did what i had to do that day which i had to go to court on monday so and it was not for me but it was for somebody that i know and and i'm close to and i did something on monday that i have never done before but i wonder if any of our listeners or if any of you guys have ever done before i was actually a character witness for somebody so i I went into court, it was actually not, uh, not what you'd see on television. It was not, I was kind of disappointed. I thought that I was going to go in and I was going to get the whole, you know, raise your right hand. You swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, nothing but the truth, but it was more so I was being interviewed and I was not, you know, having to, cause it was not, um, me swearing before the court. It was more so me talking to a judge and there were attorneys there and there were people that were that were you know for both there was two sides uh a long story short not giving out too much information because I was asked not to somebody that I know that I am very close to and Chelsea's very close to and our kids are very close to is going through a divorce and there is a custody issue that is going into play and so I character witnessed for this guy who is a good father and a just a actually is a great father and a great man and so I had to go to court and I had to sit there and tell the the judge my feelings about him and some of the close ties that we have and my kids and all the rest of this stuff yeah and so it was a little bit weird because to me going to court and I've only been to court a few times I've been to court because I had jury duty. And then I've been to court because I got to meet a judge locally who said, would you ever want to come and witness what we do? And so I sat in on her courtroom and got to watch a couple of cases. You love that. Yes, I do love it. And then I've been to court for something I didn't love, which was I had to go to traffic.

00:05:00 - 00:05:40 | Speaker 1:

court and I had to do the whole, you know, your honor, please don't give me all these points because of my insurance will go up, which by the way, that court is by the, to me was more stressful than any other, the other situations that I've had because the whole going for traffic, which I'm sure many of you guys have probably had to do, it's kind of a tough one, but this was a weird situation because I know the couple and I know what's going on here and i and i know that the couple's going through a real uh bad struggle and you guys know what it's like to go through a divorce and and i know it's not probably an easy situation even though it sounds to me like your guys's situation thank god was not you know what

00:05:40 - 00:05:50 | Speaker 3:

these guys are going through it's still not fun and i have friends going through divorces right now that are really just and a family member really really messy and and ugly and and i'm

00:05:50 - 00:06:16 | Speaker 1:

I'm going to say this, and I know I'll piss off somebody on this one, but I always believe that the messiness comes into play when lawyers come into play. Like, I think that when lawyers come into play, and no offense to you lawyers, I've got a brother and I've got a niece that are lawyers, but you guys make it messy. It's not so much the people that make it messy. You guys are the ones that bring the messiness into this thing.

00:06:16 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 3:

Or is that just when it becomes more, like, real and official?

00:06:19 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 1:

No, they make it messy because, remember, they get paid by the hour.

00:06:23 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, they're looking for things. I've watched some bad lawyers drag out divorces, make it 20 times worse on the relationships, on the families, and on the checkbook, obviously. Okay. They'll drain your bank account and drag it out when you really don't need to.

00:06:38 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 1:

Well, and the sad thing is that before the divorce, these guys were co-parenting in such an amazing way. And then when the divorce came into play, all of a sudden it calls into question how horrible of a human being each person is. And so I was brought in along with a bunch of people. I mean, there was a ton of different people. Each side had like five or six people that they could bring in to be character witnesses for them. I think my character witness part, you guys would be proud of me, was a good one because I wasn't speaking as mojo. I was speaking as my real name, Tom, because the person that I know, I know because of my children. And it's somebody that my children have had a great experience with. And so what ended up happening was I sat down, they asked me questions, the lawyers got to ask me questions, the judge asked me a ton of questions, and I gave out the, I said the truth. Yeah. And I and I, you know, I said, you know, this person should be in their child's life. And honestly, I will say this to you guys. I sat there and I thought to myself while I was doing this or actually before I was doing this, when I was watching other people do it, I thought if I were in this position, who would I call as my character witness? Because I saw some of the people that he called and, you know, there was family. There is, you know, his mother. so there was the you know the grandmother and then there were you know mentors of him you know that were there like teachers and and a pastor and stuff like that and then there's like me who honestly I've only known this person for 15 years or so so it's not like we you know have known each other for life we've we came into each other's life like maybe 15 years ago but um I thought to myself i'm like if i need character witnesses who would i call yeah would i could chelsea my wife it depends on if i really pissed her off like the day before um i'd call it i'd call aunt pat because aunt pat i could i could commit a murder and aunt pat would take the fall for me but for

00:08:51 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 2:

that reason i don't even think they call family i don't think they call siblings and spouses i think you need someone who's not related so i think your boss tony would obviously you guys are good friends I think he'd be a good character and then you're a great one although Starbucks your barista

00:09:05 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

would actually Tony would be a good one that would be a really good one Tony would be a good character witness I'd call him I couldn't have Jeff Sackwell my buddy be a character witness because he would talk way too much because that was one of the things too is like don't overly explain things just be right direct to the point and all I kept thinking to myself was this is so hard for me I actually did I did something that we do on the air all the time that we call um on the on the show it's always um when you're in the middle of a topic you got to make sure that the listeners know what the topic's all about so I did the whole thing where I'm like having a conversation and talking and saying this thing is and again we're talking about this and I did the That's good. Hey, it's Mojo in the morning. How are you? Call the phone number. Reintroduce the cast. Yeah, I'm recapping the whole thing there.

00:10:00 - 00:10:01 | Speaker 6:

Well, we've got coming up.

00:10:01 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. But who would you guys call as your character witness? Who would be your character witnesses?

00:10:06 - 00:10:16 | Speaker 6:

I would call my best friends. I would call my friend Ashley. I feel like she knows me kind of inside and out. My friend Lindsay.

00:10:16 - 00:10:21 | Speaker 4:

And Ashley is a good example of you don't need to know a person for your whole life because you've not been.

00:10:21 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 6:

No, I've only been friends with them for probably five years. But they are my people. I would call my friend Tammy because she, I've been friends with her for a very long time. And she is just my, I just, she knows like all of the, you know, all of the messy about me. I would call Wes. I would call my ex-husband, Andrew. I think he's. That's a good one to have.

00:10:44 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 4:

I really, really would. People wouldn't expect that.

00:10:46 - 00:10:48 | Speaker 6:

No, I would call him. I would call, I'd call you.

00:10:49 - 00:10:54 | Speaker 4:

That's a good one too, but you better be nice to me. I mean, I feel like I'm nice to you. All right. You look very nice to me.

00:10:54 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 6:

That's the second time I complimented you.

00:10:56 - 00:10:58 | Speaker 4:

Spike, who would you call? Who would be your character?

00:10:58 - 00:11:22 | Speaker 1:

Well, definitely you guys would be one at the top of the list because you've known me every day at the worst hour of the morning for over a decade. So I think you know the true me. I would also call my best friends Todd and Tim. And then I would probably also call, there's like at least one or two bartenders that I know on the regular that they can speak for my personality.

00:11:22 - 00:11:25 | Speaker 5:

Hairstylist People who actually know you

00:11:25 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 1:

Because they can say I've heard all his secrets And I've seen the best and worst of customers And I can tell you he's very even keeled He's very nice to people

00:11:34 - 00:11:36 | Speaker 7:

My lash lady

00:11:36 - 00:11:42 | Speaker 4:

Your lash lady is a good one That would actually be good Megan you'd have to call your brother

00:11:42 - 00:11:46 | Speaker 7:

Can you call your brother? I know that's why I didn't say my sister

00:11:46 - 00:11:52 | Speaker 4:

You can do family? There was a sibling I feel like

00:11:52 - 00:11:54 | Speaker 7:

If I was the judge, though, I'd be, like, biased.

00:11:55 - 00:11:59 | Speaker 4:

No, because here's the deal. Not all the time do your brother or sisters like you.

00:11:59 - 00:12:00 | Speaker 7:

That's true.

00:12:00 - 00:12:07 | Speaker 1:

But if you're volunteering the one, if you're calling the one to stand, then it's obviously a good one.

00:12:09 - 00:12:17 | Speaker 7:

I don't think I'd call you guys. Genuinely. If I were to call anybody from the show, it would probably be Mike.

00:12:18 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 4:

You know what? That's a good one.

00:12:19 - 00:12:21 | Speaker 7:

He's really nice. I'd call Mike for sure.

00:12:21 - 00:12:26 | Speaker 1:

I wouldn't call on Megan for help because she'd never see the text. She'd never be there for me.

00:12:27 - 00:12:31 | Speaker 7:

This is why I wouldn't know you. You proved my point. Thank you very much.

00:12:32 - 00:12:35 | Speaker 4:

Misfit Victor, who would you, or what are you calling about?

00:12:37 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 3:

All you'd have to do is call me. That's all you'd have to do.

00:12:39 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 4:

You would be the worst character witness.

00:12:42 - 00:12:52 | Speaker 3:

Why would I be the worst character witness? You know, I could give so many examples of how many times you've talked me off the ledge and what you've done for me. Like, it would be great. It would be like, that's all you need.

00:12:52 - 00:12:59 | Speaker 4:

Well, Victor, let me just say this. They would look at your social media and they would right away go, this guy's a bad guy.

00:13:00 - 00:13:04 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, but I'm just saying, I have nothing but high regard for you.

00:13:04 - 00:13:25 | Speaker 4:

All right, let me ask you a question. If you had to character witness for Mike, okay, you listen to the show on a very frequent basis. You have to character witness for Mike right now, who is right now in a little bit of hot water. All right, I'm the judge. So, Misfit Victor, tell us your relationship with Mike.

00:13:26 - 00:13:35 | Speaker 3:

I think Mike is a longtime friend of mine. I bought him this microwave egg thing, and he likes it a lot. He's a great dad, a great husband.

00:13:36 - 00:13:40 | Speaker 4:

Well, you say he's a great dad. Give me an example of why he's a great dad.

00:13:41 - 00:13:46 | Speaker 3:

I mean, I just see the social media posts that he posts with his kids, and his kids love him a lot.

00:13:47 - 00:13:49 | Speaker 4:

How do you really know they're his kids?

00:13:49 - 00:13:51 | Speaker 3:

Do you remember his birthday on, like, his bosses?

00:13:51 - 00:13:51 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:13:52 - 00:13:53 | Speaker 3:

I would never call it him.

00:13:53 - 00:14:08 | Speaker 4:

You've got to bring that up. Yeah. They ask questions like that. How do you really know that? You know, it's like they ask these questions. I'm like, you're trying to throw me off here right now. Why are you doing this whole thing? I've got a whole monologue that I want to say. So, Mike.

00:14:08 - 00:14:08 | Speaker 2:

Yes.

00:14:09 - 00:14:28 | Speaker 4:

00:15:00 - 00:15:01 | Speaker 5:

00:15:02 - 00:15:02 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:15:03 - 00:15:04 | Speaker 5:

How do you know Spike?

00:15:05 - 00:15:11 | Speaker 1:

I know Spike because I sit next to him every single morning, Monday through Friday, every morning.

00:15:11 - 00:15:22 | Speaker 5:

Yeah? Yeah. And tell us, because I'm guessing that not always do you guys have fun and sunshine in your lives, but tell us about some of the fun and sunshine moments.

00:15:22 - 00:15:39 | Speaker 1:

Some of the fun and shiny moments. Well, Spike is just a great time overall. He likes to not pay attention to a lot of things And focus on the fun things He likes to drink And so do I

00:15:39 - 00:15:45 | Speaker 3:

Your Honor, I don't know this gentleman I don't know who he is

00:15:45 - 00:15:50 | Speaker 5:

He was not on my list Alright Spike, you're on Megan now You get to character witness for Megan

00:15:50 - 00:16:06 | Speaker 3:

I first came into contact with Megan Over six years ago When we added her to the family that is the Mojo on The Morning Show. And in my six years of knowing her, she's demonstrated a responsibility and an enthusiasm,

00:16:07 - 00:16:18 | Speaker 5:

a spirit for which it's contagious. Real quick, excuse me. Let me stop you for a second. I'm the opposing lawyer. Responsibility. Didn't you guys have to bust down her apartment door once because she didn't show up to work?

00:16:19 - 00:16:47 | Speaker 3:

Well, I wasn't there. There's a lot of things that you hear about in media that, as we know now, are called fake news. And I wasn't there at her apartment, so I don't know anything about that. But I do know that she... Here's her character. Now he's... Here's her character in one sentence. She will eat Waffle House in the morning when she's sober. Oh, wow. That is amazing. That's not positive.

00:16:48 - 00:16:58 | Speaker 5:

That's not positive. Okay, maybe her judgment's not there. Excuse me? strike that from the record uh courtney who would be your character witness

00:16:58 - 00:17:03 | Speaker 7:

um definitely not my sister she'd be the first one to throw me under the bus

00:17:03 - 00:17:17 | Speaker 2:
