This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits, so I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be, and I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department, and I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will end the ship over the summer. We're going to do Breaking and Entering Christmas Wish. Lydia, is everybody all set? Because this is our first Christmas wish, doing it from new studios. It's our first Christmas wish of this year. We've got to make sure that we're all in positions and ready to go because I want to make sure this one's the best ever. And I know Lydia pours her heart and soul into this thing. Are we all set?

She pours herself into breaking and entering Christmas every year. And her mom, her whole family gets involved.

And I'm going to say this, that I don't know the facts on this one here, but if I am at this point right, we have more letters right now at this point than we did all of last year.

Since I've started doing it, this is the most I've ever seen.

Can we just say how much he gave just because I was blown away by this? I've, you know, I've heard Andy's commercials on the radio and stuff. and I've gotten a chance over the years to hear about him. I've never gotten a chance to personally know him until this. How much money did they donate?

That's amazing. Wait, is that our biggest donation to date so far this year?

I believe so. Wow. Isn't that crazy? Thank you. Yeah. And more keep coming in. And I'm going to say this to you, the $50,000 donations are fantastic. But literally, when little kids call us up or their parents call us up and say that my son has been saving money up and he wants to donate to a charity. He's been doing all kinds of returnable donations and stuff like that. And we get a kid that will call us up and say,

that he's got like $7.29 or something like that, I will say, why could you not get $7.50? No, I will say that's awesome. It's amazing. It's just unbelievable that we get people that care that much, and they're caring about you, and they're caring about all of us to make sure that we all have a nice Christmas. hi well i i hate to call you this early in the morning but you sound wide awake and i'm happy about that oh yeah oh yeah no i'm wide awake you got a lot of stuff to get to today i'm sure and we've heard about you from not just one source but many sources who tell us that you are an amazing person and actually one of those people wrote a letter that we're going to have them read to you for our mojo in the morning breaking and entering christmas wish program okay take a listen to this listen to this love that they have for you

dear mojo in the morning my name is annie and this holiday season i'd like to introduce you to shannon hasper a local labor and delivery nurse and faculty instructor at henley ford college shannon is a mom to two beautiful daughters eight-year-old kendall and 11-year-old brooklyn a loving partner to her husband a marathon runner and an incredible mentor for many new nurses But most importantly, she is a fighter. On August 28th, Shannon had a colonoscopy that found a mass in her colon. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer that has unfortunately spread to her liver, lungs, and abdominal cavity. Throughout her fight, she is still working as a professor and delivering bundles of drawers to parents, while only recently being delivered the worst news of her own life. She is receiving treatment and going to fight this. She will win this fight. We all need her beautiful light and smile in our lives. Mojo, please bring the holiday miracle to behalf of the family this year. Sincerely, Annie.

We can see it in just looking at your family and looking at the way that they look at you. and you have been there for so many people both as a nurse but also a professor or where are you a professor at uh at henry ford college in dearborn so you're you're modeling and uh for for more potential nurses right more potential people the to go in and save lives that's my hope shannon we want you to know that everybody in our breaking entering christmas wish family and i'm not talking about just the 30 plus people there i'm talking about the millions of people that are listening to this all over the world are praying for you and we know that if there was ever a fighter that was going to fight and beat the odds that is you and there are no odds that are too big

to beat you can do this thank you thank you so much thank you guys so much kp we got so much stuff to bring into the house i know we got to start pot can we bring this under your christmas tree i didn't put up the car let's put one up we'll just fill your living room is that okay i know it's cold let's let's get some of this stuff inside shannon we uh understand that uh

christmas was one of those things where it was it was like uh-oh it was coming up on us so fast with all the stuff you got going on so don't worry we took care of everything that brooklyn and Kendall are going to need for Christmas. We made sure that Santa Claus is arriving early for them this year.

She's hugging all of her family and friends right now. All the Uggs, TV, everything that was on their list, we took care of. And dance list, too, by the way. Oh, my gosh, there's too much.

Both of them's got a pair of Uggs. You've got a new iPad. I mean, this list is long. Oh, thank you so much.

Shannon, we heard through Annie and through all of your coworkers, we heard that there was a lot of things that you wanted to do with your family. And we made sure that all of those things were going to be possible.

Yeah, we know that you're a huge fan of Elevation Worship. And they're coming to town in a couple of months. And you are going to be there front and center. Okay? Your whole family is going to be there with you. And we also heard that you wanted some family photos taken. So a good friend of mine, her name is Andrea Papadopoulos from A Poppy Photography, is going to do a whole family photo shoot so that you can have those family photos that you've been wanting. Oh, thank you. And we have massage and spa treatments for you. I mean, just look around. That's all for you.

for me personally i'll say that shannon is the reason that I am a nurse today and she's the one who trained me from becoming a student to becoming a nurse and I literally follow in her footsteps it's a hard shoe to fill but I'm trying my best it's amazing

well Shannon I want you to know that all of this is just a taste of what you got you're now part of our family forever

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, people in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be there you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or any 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.
