Bill, why is my eye twitching? Does this mean I'm in perimenopause? Where's my phone?

Juliana, maybe we can ask an actual human.

Yes, because I have questions, and I bet you do too. Like, is it normal to sleep in separate bedrooms? We do that, and I still need to know why my poop's been green.

WKQI Detroit, WSNX, Muskegon, Grand Rapids, WVKS Toledo, three great stations, one stupid show. This is Mojo in the Morning Live. Good morning.

00:02:26 - 00:03:50 | Speaker 2:

Welcome to the Mojo in the Morning Show. Nice to be back on channel 955, 104.5 SNX, and KISS, the most listened to radio stations in Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Toledo. It's good to have good stations that we're on. We actually finished off 2022 with some great ratings in all the cities. It's nice. We're actually gearing up for a good 2023, unless a pandemic hits us again. Oh, I can't say that out loud. Because we were geared up for a great 2020. Our ratings, by the way, right now, if you look at our ratings, and this is actually a fact because I actually was talking to Tony Travato, The whiz kid of the Nielsen ratings. And he was telling me that our position right now in all three of our cities is right now, January, starting January, is virtually what we were 2020 when we were geared up to be the number one. Nice. Yes. And then all of a sudden COVID happened. And guess what that did to us? Yeah. I mean, listen, COVID obviously was tragic for what it did for people's health, but it was tragic what it did for our show's economy.

00:03:50 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 1:

Well, thank you to our listeners who, obviously, a lot of habits have shifted in the workplace, but they're still with us, and I love that.

00:03:57 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

I love it. And the interesting thing is we were having this conversation, Tony and I were having this conversation, and don't be feeling like I'm a nerd over a holiday break. But what 2020 did for us was it made people listen to us in different ways. And we obviously, thank God, we work for iHeart and not Cumulus or Odyssey because we had the ability to do it with iHeart's technology of the app and all the podcast abilities that we have. So there are people that listen to us, you know, obviously not, you know, in the early mornings like we like to wake up. There are some people that enjoy the show, maybe with, you know, I don't know, a cocktail late at night or a cup of coffee in the morning, so to speak. But it's wild because you look at how we have kind of transitioned. We've done a good job as a show, and I'm patting ourselves on all of our backs right now, of kind of going with the times where there have been some other shows that have not necessarily done that.

00:05:00 - 00:07:56 | Speaker 1:

good i'm glad right makes me feel we're not going to tip you off who are we thanking are we thanking the listeners or are we thanking the other shows for just being somebody actually said somebody actually said to me you know it's like it's like ted lasso like i actually was happy when when they after the first season they they lost their they they got demoted because i was like oh good they'll win more games you know i was happy about that i like that with us too demote us let's let's take on worst uh competition we'll be happy with that all right uh mojo in the morning show so the holidays were spectacular it was so great to be able to spend time with our you know families and be able to you know do christmas i was blessed that my kids all came in and we had a really good christmas i i have to tell you that it's wild when i hear my sons tell me that this might have been one of the best Christmases that they've ever had. Wow, nice. Because they're all so different, and they're older, you know what I mean? Like, it's not like, we don't have, and I do miss the times that, you know, Mike and Shannon, that you guys are having with your kids. Like, I miss the fun Santa Claus-y type times, but Santa Claus still comes to our house. Yeah. In just different ways. Yeah, yep. Sometimes he comes more drunk after he's been in other people's homes. It's a fun Santa Claus. Chelsea and I did things a little different this year. And I'm going to tell you a story that's going to make you realize that we probably aren't going to do this ever again. We decided that instead of the go out and buy the Christmas gifts that more than likely Chelsea's going to return, which she always seems to have done with some of my gifts that I bought her. But I'll be honest, I'm not a very good gift giver. You know, I'm not as thoughtful as she is with gift giving. We decided what we were going to do was that we would buy things for ourselves, a couple of items, and then we would buy one item for each person. So she would buy me one item. I would buy her one item. And what we wanted to do was we wanted to be more conscious of the economy and conscious of not going out and just buying useless stuff that we weren't going to be interested in. So I'll give you an example of the items that we bought. I needed a new Apple Watch because my Apple Watch broke on me. And I went and got an Apple Watch. I also have been obsessed for some reason with quarter zips. So I bought myself a couple of quarter zips. I love wearing quarter zips. I love wearing them. Any color other than black. I even got a camo one. It's a great one. I'm wearing it today. What? Oh, my gosh. I'm so proud of you. Okay. And I bought some new gym shoes. okay so i needed some new some new gym shoes and so i ended up buying some new uh some new shoes

00:07:56 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

which i'm obsessed with and i've been loving them chelsea bought herself some sandals and then she also needed some new sweaters and she's on a kick of buying amazon sweaters like she goes she goes out and buys like these amazon sweaters that cost like 19 and everybody thinks that she got them at like some really expensive store like Macy's or Nordstrom's. She ended up buying herself some workout clothes, so she needed workout clothes. And the amazing thing was at Christmas we opened up our gifts, and then we were surprised for each other because we got to see exactly what the heck we bought each other, right? Yeah. Because we were doing it. I like it. But here's where the problem comes into play. The one item that we ended up deciding to buy for each other, okay, So it was actually the one thing that we decided to go and get. I thought because we were on a very practical type of a routine that I would be very practical with my gift giving. Chelsea, she does, if you're a long-time listener of the show, you know this, she's very good at buying gifts that make me cry at Christmastime. Like in the past, she's bought me gifts where she bought me like cufflinks that had my parents writing love you on them from her old, their old writings and cards that they got me. Like they actually was their handwriting. And she bought like this necklace that I wear all the time that has the kids sayings for me and how much they love me and stuff. So she does things like that. That's not very practical. My gift was very practical. What did you do? I bought Chelsea a washer and a dryer for Christmas. This was the sentimental gift? Well, our washer and dryer broke. Okay. And the kids were all coming in, and she was all freaked out about our washer and dryer breaking. So I ended up going out, and I bought her a new washer and dryer, which, by the way, is a great washer and dryer. Don't try.

00:10:00 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 3:

Why didn't you just buy it for the house? Spike, you'd be proud of me.

00:10:03 - 00:10:07 | Speaker 1:

Spike, it got all the positive reviews. I'm going to say it one more time.

00:10:08 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 3:

Why didn't you just buy it for the house? Yep. Just buy it to buy it because you needed it.

00:10:13 - 00:10:18 | Speaker 1:

Because we were buying practical things. Practical is what I thought we were buying.

00:10:18 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 2:

While I think that the gift is ridiculous, part of me is like my dryer just broke too. What did you get? At the same time, what did you get?

00:10:25 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 3:

Talk about that after the show.

00:10:27 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 2:

We want to roast him for a second.

00:10:28 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 1:

All right. Chelsea bought me, while I bought her a washer and dryer, Chelsea bought me a rendering of a picture of my mother from back when she was visiting my father's family in Cuba because my dad is from Cuba, and it's her on the beach, and this is like this artist that painted this thing for her and put it in a framed mat, and she actually had me open it up, and I noticed that on Christmas there was a spot missing where she hung it like prominently in our house. It was honestly, it's one of the most beautiful things I've ever. I actually shared with you guys in the pictures, the picture that she got me, and then I also shared with you guys, because I didn't take a picture of it, but I shared with you guys a picture of the GE Smart Ultra Fresh Front Load Steam Washer and Electric Dryer with Sanitizing Cycle. Oh.

00:11:27 - 00:11:27 | Unknown:

No.

00:11:27 - 00:11:31 | Speaker 3:

People are texting in, where is the dumb mother effer drop?

00:11:32 - 00:11:38 | Speaker 1:

I'm not in studio to use the drops, but I would have definitely used that. Is that why you didn't come home from Florida?

00:11:41 - 00:11:44 | Speaker 3:

So who opened their gift first, you or her?

00:11:44 - 00:12:02 | Speaker 1:

Okay, so I don't know. Hold on. KP, call Chelsea up. I don't even know if KP has Chelsea's number, but I sent you Chelsea's number. Call Chelsea up because I don't even remember who was the...

00:12:02 - 00:12:09 | Speaker 3:

Because you know what I mean? If Chelsea, or if you opened your gift first, the gift that Chelsea gave to you.

00:12:10 - 00:12:10 | Speaker 1:

Yes.

00:12:11 - 00:12:17 | Speaker 3:

I would be in sheer panic to give her the washer and dryer. And I would be, I would have stalled.

00:12:17 - 00:12:32 | Speaker 1:

No, can I be honest with you? Then okay, I know what it was. chelsea opened up her gift first which by the way her opening of the gift was i didn't like bring in the washer and dryer like here like it's a washer and dryer behind like it didn't like all

00:12:32 - 00:12:36 | Speaker 3:

of a sudden you know come rolling in on a sequined jacket like rod roddy on the prices right back in

00:12:36 - 00:12:50 | Speaker 1:

the day no i i had the pictures of it and that it was being delivered and when it was getting delivered and all the rest of that stuff on there and i had that all all set up hold on a second Chelsea is on the phone. Chelsea?

00:12:51 - 00:12:51 | Speaker 4:

Yes?

00:12:52 - 00:12:59 | Speaker 1:

Sorry to wake you up, Chelsea. Chelsea, how great of a Christmas was it this year? Wasn't it amazing?

00:13:00 - 00:13:02 | Speaker 4:

It was amazing for some, yes.

00:13:05 - 00:13:26 | Speaker 1:

Chels, Shannon asked the question. She said, who opened which gift first? And I forgot for a second because then all of a sudden I remembered you opened up the gift first. And then you said to me, well, here's your gift. And you then, of course, gave me your gift to make me realize how big of an a-hole I am and how horrible I am.

00:13:27 - 00:13:32 | Speaker 4:

Well, I mean, some of us put more thought into gifts than others.

00:13:33 - 00:13:36 | Speaker 1:

I thought we were being practical this year. We were trying to be practical.

00:13:38 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 4:

And my gift was very practical. Thank you. I can spend more time in the laundry room now. Who says Merry Practical Christmas? It's a step up from the Roomba, I guess. Oh, I forgot about the Roomba. The Roomba.

00:13:57 - 00:14:11 | Speaker 1:

Okay, so by the way, the picture of my mom is beautiful. It's absolutely gorgeous. But Mike's wondering if the reason that we didn't come back from Florida is maybe one of us came back from Florida and the other one didn't. But you're with me still.

00:14:13 - 00:14:14 | Speaker 4:

Correct.

00:14:14 - 00:14:14 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:14:14 - 00:14:16 | Speaker 4:

As of today, yes.

00:14:19 - 00:14:41 | Speaker 1:

The other thing that Chelsea, Chelsea, I feel bad about. And for some reason, this has got to be a mom thing. Chelsea put something in my stockings. Like she actually put, like we had, we all have stockings. And I felt bad because I forgot that Chelsea had a stocking that I was supposed to stuff. And you didn't get any of that in your stocking.

00:14:42 - 00:14:57 | Speaker 4:

I never, it's always my stocking that's hanging up on, you know, what? I don't know what I can say on the air It's always my stocking that's left Hanging on the mantle And everyone else Even the dogs They all get stuff on Christmas morning

00:14:57 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

And you get nothing in your

00:15:00 - 00:15:08 | Speaker 6:

stocking nothing i'm gonna start stuffing it with gift cards and yes yes you should i couldn't put a

00:15:08 - 00:15:13 | Speaker 1:

washer in the stocking or the dryer in the stocking it wouldn't fit in there well you could

00:15:13 - 00:15:21 | Speaker 5:

have printed two different photos off and put one in my stocking don't wish any for anything in your

00:15:21 - 00:15:27 | Speaker 2:

stocking because he's going to give you like dish towels toilet paper at this rate just things you

00:15:27 - 00:15:35 | Speaker 6:

need for your house toilet brush right windex all right but here here's here is the the topic right

00:15:35 - 00:16:00 | Speaker 1:

now um i gave i gave blank a very sentimental gift and they gave me a washer and dryer that call us up and tell us what it was that that you ended up getting at 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 quickly though the cash equivalent of this that was a very expensive gift that I bought you I just want you to know that

00:16:00 - 00:16:01 | Speaker 2:

that doesn't work that way

00:16:01 - 00:16:04 | Speaker 6:

I mean you're so generous

00:16:04 - 00:16:08 | Speaker 1:

thank you I love you thank you for that she's happy

00:16:08 - 00:16:12 | Speaker 6:

so generous I'm eternally grateful

00:16:12 - 00:16:17 | Speaker 1:

I'm going to let you go to bed and you go back to bed and I will talk to you later okay

00:16:18 - 00:16:19 | Speaker 6:

Okay, sounds good.

00:16:19 - 00:16:20 | Speaker 1:

Do you miss me?

00:16:21 - 00:16:22 | Speaker 6:

No, goodbye.

00:16:23 - 00:16:34 | Speaker 7:

She can sleep longer now because she doesn't have to rinse dishes before putting them in. Oh, no, you didn't get the dishwasher. I'm sorry. That's next birthday. You know what? Mother's Day. Valentine's Day. Yeah, Valentine's Day.

00:16:34 - 00:16:38 | Speaker 1:

So many. Elise, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning. Hi.

00:16:39 - 00:16:40 | Speaker 4:

Hi, how are you?

00:16:40 - 00:16:43 | Speaker 1:

Oh, Elise, I'm wonderful. Elise, you're married to a guy like me?

00:16:44 - 00:16:59 | Speaker 4:

Yes. Yes, my husband got me a power washer since I'm always cleaning. I love a power washer, but not as a Christmas gift. Yeah, it came on the front porch, and I was like, that better not be for me, and it sure was.

00:16:59 - 00:17:03 | Speaker 1:

Oh, man. What did you get him? Did you get him something nice?

00:17:04 - 00:17:10 | Speaker 4:

No, well, we had gone in on a deep freezer together because that's what we wanted to spend our money on.

00:17:10 - 00:17:12 | Speaker 1:

By the way, put your husband in the deep freezer.

00:17:12 - 00:17:14 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, right.

00:17:15 - 00:17:19 | Speaker 1:

Well, thank you, guys. Thank you. Hey, Ari, hi. It's Mojo in the morning.

00:17:20 - 00:17:22 | Speaker 6:

Hey, good morning. Happy New Year, guys.

00:17:22 - 00:17:23 | Speaker 1:

Happy New Year.

00:17:24 - 00:17:34 | Speaker 6:

So my fiance for Christmas got me the Dyson Air fan filter. I have a dishwasher and our bathroom floor renovated. Like, it got finished this week for Christmas.

00:17:34 - 00:17:41 | Speaker 7:

Is this something you discussed in advance, though, and said, listen, we need to get this house upgraded here. We need an adult Christmas?

00:17:42 - 00:17:56 | Speaker 6:

Well, okay, see, he didn't talk about it, but it was something that was in the works, and it wasn't going to be done until, like, after Valentine's Day. So he made it happen earlier for Christmas. Oh, okay. That's a good gift. Yeah, see, so I'm okay with my adult Christmas.

00:17:57 - 00:18:05 | Speaker 7:

I feel like guys still need to put one little nice sentimental thing in there, something romantic in there, even if it's small, to go with the Dyson.

00:18:06 - 00:18:06 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:18:07 - 00:18:07 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:18:07 - 00:18:08 | Speaker 4:

Okay, that's true. Yeah.

00:18:08 - 00:18:19 | Speaker 1:

hey take care of yourself uh cam what's up hi hi how are you guys oh cam we're wonderful we all

00:18:19 - 00:18:32 | Speaker 5:

had a great christmas as it sounds like right yeah what did you last last year i got my husband a signed drum head of a favorite band and i got a pillow

00:18:32 - 00:18:36 | Speaker 3:

Was it a sign pillow?

00:18:36 - 00:18:40 | Speaker 5:

It was a really nice pillow Yeah, that's nice

00:18:40 - 00:18:43 | Speaker 7:

Does the pillow go between the two of you in bed now To divide

00:18:43 - 00:18:53 | Speaker 1:

Now she just gave her an idea David, what's happening, buddy? It's Mojo in the morning

00:18:53 - 00:19:01 | Speaker 2:

That's such a crappy gift, Mojo Why didn't you just get her pots and pans And some foot wash So she can walk around barefoot

00:19:01 - 00:19:05 | Speaker 1:

David You're supposed to have my back, David

00:19:05 - 00:19:10 | Speaker 2:

No way, Christmas time You gotta do something special for them Not for the house

00:19:10 - 00:19:26 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, well, let me just say this to you I did screw up this one And you know what, it's funny Because all I had was one gift to buy Which is basically the easiest thing ever When you look at it I didn't have to buy a bunch of other gifts And it was just one thing

00:19:26 - 00:19:27 | Speaker 2:

Don't you have a jewelry buddy?

00:19:28 - 00:19:37 | Speaker 1:

All your friends? Believe me, I will be calling Vince, Joe, and Fran Lucido to make up for this for future holidays. Double washer and dryer.

00:19:38 - 00:19:39 | Speaker 6:

That's right.

00:19:40 - 00:19:42 | Speaker 1:

Thanks for the call, man. I appreciate it.

00:19:42 - 00:19:44 | Speaker 2:

Thank you. Have a good one. Hey, take care.

00:19:45 - 00:19:46 | Speaker 1:

Kayla, what's up?

00:19:49 - 00:19:59 | Speaker 5:

Hi, Kayla. I've been waiting for the longest time. I'm surprised I got in. But I got a motorcycle for him, like a motorcycle cover, and he got me in a gate.

00:20:00 - 00:20:00 | Speaker 4:

ring.

00:20:00 - 00:20:01 | Speaker 8:

Wow.

00:20:02 - 00:20:07 | Speaker 4:

Okay. So, mine was, like, less costly.

00:20:07 - 00:20:16 | Speaker 8:

But wait a second. Honestly, is an engagement ring a good gift for Christmas? Or is that, because that's for him, too. It's part of his, you know.

00:20:16 - 00:20:23 | Speaker 3:

Well, I asked for a promise ring, so that's more than a promise.

00:20:23 - 00:20:33 | Speaker 8:

That's more than a promise. Yeah, because I heard this over break. I heard that people who do engagement rings for Christmas, it's a cop-out. That's a cop-out gift.

00:20:35 - 00:20:39 | Speaker 9:

Well, I wasn't expecting it, so. Oh, yeah. Okay.

00:20:39 - 00:20:46 | Speaker 6:

I agree, though, with Mojo. You do need something else, too. Like, that doesn't replace all gifts on Christmas. You still need to open some gifts.

00:20:46 - 00:20:56 | Speaker 8:

Hey, real quick, I want to know what's going on here. Spike and Shannon, new relationships, not with each other but with others. But what did we get for Christmas? Did you guys get anything?

00:20:56 - 00:21:10 | Speaker 1:

Well, so Wes and I, excuse me, didn't do gifts. We only did stockings for each other because we're about to take a little trip for my birthday here in a couple of weeks. So we decided to save money and just put our money toward that trip. So we just did like little stocking stuff for stuff. We didn't do gifts for each other.

00:21:10 - 00:21:11 | Speaker 8:

And a ring update? No ring?

00:21:11 - 00:21:12 | Speaker 1:

No ring.

00:21:12 - 00:21:13 | Speaker 8:

Okay.

00:21:13 - 00:21:24 | Speaker 6:

Spike? I have big news. I was going to share this later this morning, but I'll say it now. Mojo owes me money. He lost the bet. Oh, my God.

00:21:24 - 00:21:25 | Unknown:

Wait for a second.

00:21:25 - 00:21:26 | Speaker 6:

My heart just, like, stopped.

00:21:27 - 00:21:33 | Speaker 8:

I hate you. No ring, no engagement. Did you buy her another cooking utensil? I did.

00:21:33 - 00:21:38 | Speaker 6:
