Bill, why is my eye twitching? Does this mean I'm in perimenopause? Where's my phone?

00:00:05 - 00:00:07 | Speaker 5:

Juliana, maybe we can ask an actual human.

00:00:07 - 00:00:16 | Speaker 2:

Yes, because I have questions and I bet you do too. Like, is it normal to sleep in separate bedrooms? We do that and I still need to know why my poop's been green.

00:00:16 - 00:00:21 | Speaker 5:

We've got actual people answering these exact questions. Listen to Bill and Juliana.

I'm Mange Shachigular, and I'm back with a new season of my podcast, Skyline Drive. This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, curmudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.

00:01:24 - 00:01:30 | Speaker 1:

I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.

00:01:30 - 00:01:36 | Speaker 4:

Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Mojo in the morning show. So Luke had some buddies over to the house. And I have to tell you that it's wild because Luke never has people over. And when I would ask him, why don't you ever invite people to our house? I thought maybe he was like ashamed or embarrassed or something. And his reasoning was, because I don't want to have to clean up afterwards. It was like his reasoning of not having friends over because he knows that when they go over to friends' houses that they destroy probably the basements in these homes. Well, I was going to go and get a bunch of stuff for these guys to eat, so I decided that I would go to, and I'm doing this because our bosses are always concerned whenever we name businesses and have stories to tell about them. I don't want them to get mad at us, but a famous pizza place, locally owned in Detroit. You guess which one it was. Lots and lots of locations. The beauty is I could do this, and yeah, let me say this to you. There are how many locally owned, famous pizza places in this city? Many of them. We are Pizza City, not only Automotive City, but Pizza City. so I go in to buy the pizzas and um the manager of the restaurant was helping me out of the pizza place was helping me out and she was actually working by herself it looked like because she was like making the pizzas and she was doing a boxing up and she was spectacular let me go on record to say that her customer service was with a smile um she had all the pizzas ready hot and ready awesome looking good and she hands them over to me and i thought you know what i want to give her a tip so i reached in my pocket and i had money so i pulled out the money to go hand it over to her and she says oh no i can't take it and i'm like yes i i want to give this to you you did such an amazing job i want to give it she goes no no i can't she says i'll meet you in the parking lot. I'm like, wait a second. Hold on. This is, this is not what I'm going to be. Am I going to be part of a, a West Bloomfield sting where I'll be arrested by the cops. So I go out to the car. I put them in the, in the, uh, the car into my Tahoe and she says, I can't take tips because we have cameras inside of our business and we're not allowed to take tips so that's why she came outside and i gave her the tip okay all right i want to know what is the weird rule that you have in your company or the stupid rule that you have in your company that we would be surprised by your business company whatever it is what's the stupid rule you have because this pizza place and i didn't name a pizza place but this pizza place has a dumb rule that they cannot accept

00:04:22 - 00:04:32 | Speaker 7:

tips yeah that is kind of a dumb rule isn't it yeah i mean i mean listen i'm gonna if she went above and beyond she deserves a tip yeah if you feel so inclined to give her one and i and i'll

00:04:32 - 00:04:53 | Speaker 3:

be honest with with you i think in this day and age we need to give them tips like we we need to do whatever we can i know the economic situation is so bad right now but i i think if you get somebody that gives you above and beyond service to continue that service man reward whoever it is But she had to follow me into the parking lot in order to get that from me.

00:04:53 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 7:

As long as they're not pressuring you to give a tip.

00:04:55 - 00:04:56 | Speaker 3:

Oh, I hate when they do that.

00:04:57 - 00:04:58 | Speaker 7:

You know what I hate? I hate when they do that.

00:04:58 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 5:

The iPad screen.

00:04:59 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 3:

Oh.

00:05:00 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 2:

I can't stand it. Or they'll say to you, would you like to put a tip on this? I always hate when they do that thing because they're making me feel pressured. And I know that they do it because they want to remind you that they are still accepting tips, but the iPad screen, like Spike said, at Beyond Juice, it does it all the time. They flip it around, and when they flip it around, I'm like, I feel so pressured.

00:05:21 - 00:05:22 | Speaker 1:

Me too.

00:05:23 - 00:05:23 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:05:24 - 00:05:26 | Speaker 3:

Good job not naming companies, by the way.

00:05:26 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 1:

Oh, but it wasn't involved.

00:05:28 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 2:

Well, that's true. That was another email from our boss. It wasn't involved in my story.

00:05:32 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 1:

We all love Beyond Juice. That part always makes me nervous.

00:05:37 - 00:05:38 | Speaker 2:

They weren't a pizza place.

00:05:39 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 1:

By the way, do you guys tip when you get your oil changed? Because that just happened to me over the weekend. I got my oil changed and the guy just stood there afterwards. Really? And I was like, well, I feel like sometimes I do and sometimes I don't.

00:05:51 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 2:

I do it at Gordon Chevrolet, so usually when I go there.

00:05:54 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 1:

This wasn't the dealership. I didn't have time to go down to Moran or else I would have. but never tipped for an oil change are you supposed to well i remember tipping one time because the guy was like a super fan of the show and that i i that's another situation where i get really nervous and so i i gave him a tip but then this guy just like stood there awkwardly and i didn't know what to do i do it and to be very honest i did not have any cash on me

00:06:19 - 00:06:27 | Speaker 3:

like i think i had a dollar the porter that drives the car around but i don't even see the person that changed the text that changed the oil yeah this was one of those like drive into the garage

00:06:27 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 5:

places and uh kendall what's happening hi um i go to cosmetology school and we charge the people that come full prices for their services um and we don't see any of the money and then on top of it

00:06:43 - 00:06:47 | Speaker 2:

they're not allowed to tip us wow so that's the stupid rules that they've got around there huh

00:06:47 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 5:

yeah it's kind of crazy like last month i made twelve hundred dollars for the place wow

00:06:54 - 00:07:05 | Speaker 2:

But wait, so hold on. So you pay for your schooling at the cosmetology school, and there's no way for you to make up the money that you're paying by getting some extra cash? I never knew that.

00:07:05 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 5:

Not at all.

00:07:06 - 00:07:07 | Speaker 2:

That's wild.

00:07:07 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 3:

Wow, they're really banking on all those students then. They're getting all the money from you learning.

00:07:12 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 2:

They're getting free labor out of the deal. Wait a second, hold on.

00:07:16 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 3:

That doesn't seem right. Can you sneak a QR code or something, like put it on your apron so that people can scan and Venmo you or something?

00:07:22 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 2:

You know what? But honestly, we're not even allowed to have free interns anymore because it was sued. Not our company, but one of the other radio companies, big companies, XM Sirius, was sued for interns doing all the work and not getting paid. But these guys at cosmetology school are still doing that. What's up, David?

00:07:44 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 4:

I work for a home delivery service. We were not allowed to accept any party invites, weddings, birthdays, come over for a Super Bowl party. They wanted you to be friendly, not friends.

00:07:57 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 3:

Oh, okay. So what are you delivering? Food for parties, or what do you deliver?

00:08:03 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 4:

Big yellow truck, frozen ice cream. Oh, okay.

00:08:07 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 1:

People would invite you to their weddings?

00:08:09 - 00:08:17 | Speaker 4:

Oh, my gosh. Barbecues, weddings, birthday parties. Wow. You were going and building relationships with these. You were there every two weeks. Yeah.

00:08:17 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 1:

Okay. All right.

00:08:19 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:08:19 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 2:

That's pretty wild.

00:08:20 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 4:

Wasn't allowed to accept them.

00:08:21 - 00:08:23 | Speaker 2:

What happens if you get caught doing that?

00:08:24 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 4:

Well, if another customer would call in, you could get fired because they wanted you to be friendly, not friends.

00:08:31 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 2:

What if the customer were to say, I'm offended by you not accepting my invite and I won't shop with you guys anymore?

00:08:40 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 4:

Company policy. I don't know if my job's worth you being offended. Yeah.

00:08:44 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 2:

That's crazy. Well, thanks for the call. I appreciate that.

00:08:48 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 3:

It's crazy.

00:08:49 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 2:

And by the way, thank you, by the way, for keeping that company's name out. You're better than I am. Then Tony will reward you. Our boss will reward you for now saying that.

00:08:56 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 3:

But you know that policy was created because somebody did something sloppy. Somebody went to a party and threw up on a customer and lost a million-dollar account, and they had to create this entire policy.

00:09:06 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 2:

Marie, what's happening?

00:09:08 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 6:

Hey, guys.

00:09:09 - 00:09:10 | Speaker 2:

Hi.

00:09:11 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 6:

Hi.

00:09:11 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 3:

Where do you work? What kind of business do you work at?

00:09:15 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 6:

A really big delivery company, I'll say. Okay.

00:09:19 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 2:

Okay. And what's the rule that they have?

00:09:22 - 00:09:26 | Speaker 6:

So we can't accept tips over $5.

00:09:27 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 2:

Oh, okay. So anything under $5?

00:09:31 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 6:

I'll just say we're out there rain, sweet, or snow.

00:09:35 - 00:09:43 | Speaker 3:

I was just going to say, because I know the post office, they used to say anything over $20 was not allowed for the holiday.

00:09:44 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 6:

Five bucks. Wow. That's great.

00:09:46 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 2:

What if I give it to you in three installments?

00:09:50 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 6:

Right. Yeah. I mean, we still have people that love us and look out, but I just think it's funny.

00:09:55 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 2:

Does that mean Christmas gifts, too? You can't accept Christmas gifts?

00:09:59 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. See you guys.

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 3:

Well, we're not supposed to.

00:10:02 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 6:

We've got to give you $10, $5 Starbucks cards.

00:10:05 - 00:10:14 | Speaker 4:

Right. Wait, how about that? Can you not accept, like, if I gave you a $20 gift card, that's not $5, but it's a gift card?

00:10:15 - 00:10:19 | Speaker 3:

Listen, I can accept whatever you want to get.

00:10:19 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, they're not in the truck with Marie, so we can just put a post-it note. We'll write $5 on the card and put a post-it note and say, hey, this has $50.

00:10:27 - 00:10:33 | Speaker 4:

There you go, exactly. This is what the massage place told me, too. It's weird.
