It's Mojo in the morning, of course, Channel 955 in Detroit and 104.5 S and X in Grand Rapids, too. So, you know how sometimes you start seeing yourself through the eyes of your kids or through your kids' actions? And if this has started to happen for, like, Shannon and Kev and Mike, it will happen even more as your kids get older. Yesterday, I got a phone call from Luke, my college-aged son who's at Michigan State. And he calls me and goes, Dad, can you do me a favor? And I said, yeah. He goes, can you put some money in my account? And we have this big strict thing now that we're on because Luke blew through all of his summer cash that he made and his graduation money. And it's like, you're budgeted. This is what you get. Allowance, you get no more than that. And he's like, can you put more in there? he goes i had to buy some books for school and i was wondering if you could put the money in there and i quickly right away goes oh yeah luke how much is it and he's telling me how much it is and i'm like doing it and then i'm stopping for a second going oh my god i can hear like the dream harps going off that bring me back to the past that's how i used to get money from my dad so my dad didn't pay for you know my college and stuff but my dad would pay for like my books and my things that i needed for school so i would call my dad up all the time and my dad never said no to a book like my dad was one of those guys that was kind of nerdy like that and so to him it was like oh yeah no brainer i'm gonna give you know buy his books for him because he just wants to better himself i would call my dad up like every day dad i need a book for school and i would be getting you know money from my dad to go buy these books and that's how i actually had money i think my son is scamming me i think i got it i got it and i don't know do you guys did you guys have a scam to get money from your parent or parents i mean my mom essentially caught me off

00:02:54 - 00:03:04 | Speaker 3:

when i went to college so no so you were done i was done and she warned me of that you are done aside from like paying my insurance and i think maybe she paid my cell phone bill i had to get a

00:03:04 - 00:03:15 | Speaker 1:

job that was the deal so there was never an emergency that came up like that um oh my god an emergency bit of money and then you'd come up and make up some kind of an elaborate scheme just to kind of get money?

00:03:15 - 00:03:20 | Speaker 3:

I don't think so. I was so scared of my mom. Heck no. Really? The retaliation?

00:03:20 - 00:03:23 | Speaker 1:

No. Megan, do you have anything with your dad? Did Scott and Nick ever?

00:03:23 - 00:04:00 | Speaker 2:

I'm a bad kid because I even had multiple jobs in college. I worked on the radio station and then I also worked at Red Robin, which you've talked about before. And so I had money and I, oh God, I'm such a bad kid. I love my dad and he knows about this i just want to make it clear he knows now and he laughs i think so he doesn't cry but my dad had like a a stash of emergency cash and i knew where it was and so i would just he traveled for a living he was at home i didn't have to be sneaky i would just go steal his money all the time i didn't ask i just took it i'm such a bad kid i love my dad did that i think every kid took

00:04:00 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 3:

a 10 or a 20 out of their parents i wish it was 10 or 20 oh okay i was like i did that

00:04:05 - 00:04:07 | Speaker 1:

How much did you embezzle from your dad?

00:04:08 - 00:04:14 | Speaker 2:

Overall, oh, lots of money. I took lots of money from my dad.

00:04:14 - 00:04:17 | Speaker 1:

And where does your dad keep his cash now? He doesn't anymore.

00:04:17 - 00:04:32 | Speaker 2:

He's like not a cash guy, which is so disappointing because I used to, even when I worked in downtown Toledo, my dad lives in downtown Toledo, I would go to his apartment and look for money stashes when I knew he was at home. And now he doesn't carry cash. That's why.

00:04:32 - 00:04:45 | Speaker 1:

844 Mojo Live, 844-665-6548. I want to know how you were able to scam your parent out of, you know, maybe a little bit of money here or there. Megan's case, a lot of money.

00:04:45 - 00:05:39 | Speaker 3:

I never thought about that. That was like a rite of passage in your childhood to, like, steal a couple bucks from mom or dad's wallet in the morning. Nobody has cash anymore. So what do kids do? How do you get extra money for the book fair? I was going to say, how many of your kids have? your code cash out yeah i i don't know literally honestly i they they will my kids will ask me to either uh um what the hell is it called on chase the chase pay thing zelle they'll ask me to zelle money to them venmo money to them or apple pay money to them because they need something something emergency just came up and the worst is like with the cold weather and it's like my winter code is not that great and then i realized they got a freaking can you know canadian goose or whatever that uh code is that they went to school with what's up mallory how you doing hey so my sister

00:05:39 - 00:05:50 | Speaker 6:

and i scammed our mom and asked for money to get our eyebrows back like this was like 20 years ago and then we went and tweezed each other's eyebrows and spent the money

00:05:50 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 3:

oh that's funny that's what i'm thinking i'm thinking that luke there's no way luke is buying a book if i'm ever i'm gonna go do an emergency visit to his dorm room and i'm gonna go and just go hey where's that book at that you just bought i guarantee you that one kid in his his dorm jake the good kid his roommate probably bought the book and luke is just using it off of him and luke used that money at harper's or something smart yeah it's not online at this point Yeah, man. Simon, what's up, Simon? It's Mojo in the morning. Hi.

00:06:25 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 4:

What's up, Mojo? Nothing much. What's going on? First time caller.

00:06:31 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 3:

I was wondering. Were you trying to figure out what it was? First time caller, long time listener? Like you were trying to figure that out?

00:06:41 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, I don't know. I just heard it a second ago, so I just wanted to repeat it.

00:06:44 - 00:06:48 | Speaker 3:

Oh, that's cool. Well, good. First time, long time. We love you guys. What's going on?

00:06:49 - 00:07:02 | Speaker 4:

So when I was in college, I'd ask my mom for grocery money, and I'd be like, oh, mom, like, I need money for groceries. Like, I'm trying to be healthy and all that. So she gave me $200, $300. I'd be going to McDonald's, Burger King, whatever.

00:07:04 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 3:

I love it. Isabella, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning. Hi.

00:07:09 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 7:

Hi. How are you guys doing?

00:07:11 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 3:

Good. We're talking about scamming your parents for money.

00:07:13 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 7:

uh yeah so i think i was in eighth grade at the time but my parents were divorced for a while um so i had asked my mom it was yearbook season so i'd ask my mom for forty dollars so i could buy a yearbook um which she gave me she's never gonna say no to that and then i asked my dad for forty dollars for a yearbook um and neither of them knew um so in turn i walked away with eighty dollars forty dollars extra wow but you did buy the yearbook i did i did good okay but um okay

00:07:43 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 1:

I had some extra spending money. Yeah. I think I need to be aware of that one because that's something Lucy's totally going to pull on me and Andrew.

00:07:51 - 00:08:02 | Speaker 3:

I'm telling you, that's when it starts. 100%. It starts at their age, Shannon. You got to watch out. And then they start telling you that things cost money. Like, you have to pay for certain things. I need this for lunch. Everybody's getting it.

00:08:02 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 1:

Oh, Smith tried that one. And I'm like, Smith, lunch at your school is free as long as you take a fruit and vegetable. So nice try, bud.

00:08:08 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. I'd be selling my fruit and vegetable. See, that's what I did. as I told my parents we had like birthday back when I was in school that you used to be able to bring candy and stuff in for birthdays and like celebrate birthdays so I'd tell my parents oh just give me some caramel apple suckers and I'd bring them in I'd sell them and I would just make money off those suckers

00:08:25 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 1:

I'm sorry that's genius that's an entrepreneur

00:08:28 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 3:

in the making I used to sell Luden's cough drops oh really cough drops the cherry ones those are candies they were like candy but I would sell them my dad would buy them because of he for some reason thought that they actually were good and they weren't they were just like candy and people would buy them all the time for me jillian what's up it's mojo in the morning hi good morning hey what's happening

00:08:47 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 8:

you tricked your dad i did trick my dad so it wasn't money but when i was like 17 18 um it was easter and it was the morning so he wanted to make a trip to the grocery store and i was like oh i kind of want to drink so i was like hey by the way mom wants a six pack of uh angry orchards and he was like oh okay so then he bought him brought him home and he was like here go get this to your mom and i was like oh yeah for sure took him upstairs drank all six of them in like a half hour passed out for like two hours and then yeah and then my dad was like what happened to all those angry

00:09:22 - 00:09:36 | Speaker 3:

orchards i'm like yeah those were for me and he got it going on you evil genius i love it amanda you would get money from mom for uh tanning to go to the tanning booth yeah i wanted to be tan for

00:09:36 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 5:

prongs i'm really pale and luckily she works midnight so i'd come home from school and i'd be able to like sneak in her truck and grab the debit card and then um i'd have to like go really fast to the tanning place and then like put it perfectly back in her purse before she woke up and she didn't know until like after i graduated high school she was like what are all these charges on my mastercard i don't go tanning so i thought i got away with it

00:10:00 - 00:10:09 | Speaker 1:

i thought i was in the clear and then like i came up months later she's like i wondered how you got so chan i thought your sister got it for you and i was like no and i'm the youngest of seven if i

00:10:09 - 00:10:23 | Speaker 2:

could just blame anything on anybody yeah uh and then stephanie stephanie i'm gonna actually do what your dad did for luke what what happened steph hi so um first time call a long time

00:10:23 - 00:10:42 | Speaker 1:

Oh, I used to lie to my dad and said I needed a textbook for school when I went to University of Toledo and he caught on and he would then say, well, I'll just meet you at the bookstore.

00:10:43 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 2:

Oh, no, I love it. I'm doing that. You know what? Next time he pulls this crap with me, I'm just going to do it and go. All right. Well, you know what? Why don't I do this? I will go to buy those for you today, and then we'll buy anything else you might need.

00:10:56 - 00:10:59 | Speaker 1:

Well, is his bookstore a Barnes & Noble?

00:11:00 - 00:11:02 | Speaker 2:

No, it's on campus. It's like the campus bookstore.

00:11:02 - 00:11:05 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, UT's bookstore was a Barnes & Noble.

00:11:05 - 00:11:07 | Speaker 2:

I don't know. Maybe it is. I'm getting my gift card.

00:11:08 - 00:11:09 | Speaker 1:

Somebody can't use another flavor.

00:11:12 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 2:

Megan, you have just become his least favorite. I know. I shouldn't have said that.
