00:00:36 - 00:00:47 | Speaker 4:

We're launching Podlandia AO Rewatch, our brand new podcast where we revisit every episode of Portlandia together, breaking down sketches, going deep on our iconic characters, and pulling back the curtain on how it all got made.

And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life. Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Kreisel, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.

00:01:00 - 00:01:05 | Speaker 4:

Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song.

00:01:05 - 00:01:06 | Speaker 7:

Well, I thought you were all going to write a song.

00:01:06 - 00:01:15 | Speaker 4:

I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia, A-O Rewatch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:17 - 00:01:46 | Speaker 7:

Enough of that. Here we go. Welcome to the... Whoa! Wait a second. You new here? Oh, my God. What is going on here? This is not good radio. Oh, here we go. You're premature. I know, you know. Ready? Here we go. I can pick it up here. Welcome to the Mojo, the Mojo in the morning show. We have got your Mojo, the Mojo in the morning show. This is Friday Mojo, Mojo in the morning show. I feel like the artists that are on stage and forget the lyrics to their own songs. That was me playing karaoke, too. I'm like the worst at karaoke. I always end up starting even before the words appear on the screen. Welcome to Mojo in the Morning. I am starting to feel a little anxiety, and I don't even know the details about this, other than I was told by my graduating, soon-to-be graduating from high school son, Luke, that I have to do a fashion show with him. that his school year after year always does the seniors and their parents do a fashion show and you choose one of your parents that you want to be in the fashion show and he and Chelsea have chosen me to go and be in this fashion show with them and I've seen the emails come across before and I've looked at them and I thought God no, there's no way on this one And then I guess Luke's principal, Mrs. Anderson, actually said, Luke, you're doing the fashion show. She basically told him that he has to do the fashion show. And then Luke chose me.

00:03:35 - 00:03:38 | Speaker 4:

I bet not a lot of dads do it. So you're going to be featured.

00:03:39 - 00:04:19 | Speaker 6:

Well, I can tell you this. That years ago, when Joe graduated from the same high school, they had that fashion show. And I got out of not having to do it because I hosted it. So I got to actually not have to do it. I was basically telling all that. But I looked at the dads that were doing this thing, and I thought to myself, it looks fun, but thank God I'm not doing that. Like, thank God I don't have to dress in, you know, in any kind of clothing. So, supposedly, I got to go to Von Mar. I didn't know we had a Von Mar. But there's a Von Mar tie-in that I guess they are giving.

00:04:20 - 00:04:21 | Speaker 7:

Do you get free clothes? Yeah.

00:04:21 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 6:

I don't, you know, I don't know if that. I don't know if that basically Comes with like a little gift For you I have not asked I should ask

00:04:31 - 00:04:38 | Speaker 3:

There was a little black girl In the Brewster Projects of Detroit

00:04:38 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 6:

Michigan this is what we're going to be Walking out to Megan you'll love this unless you got Another RuPaul song this is the only RuPaul song I know

00:04:44 - 00:04:49 | Speaker 3:

And her modeling Career took off You better work

00:04:49 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 5:

Now wait a second I have a great idea

00:04:52 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 6:

Have you ever done a fashion show before? I've never been in a fashion show. Like I said, I've emceed a bunch of these before. Right, right. I didn't know it's like...

00:05:00 - 00:05:03 | Speaker 5:

in all your time on this show. No. So KP, if you don't know this,

00:05:03 - 00:05:06 | Speaker 3:

was a pageant queen. Oh, yeah.

00:05:06 - 00:05:08 | Speaker 5:

So we should have her coach you. Wait, hold on.

00:05:08 - 00:05:15 | Speaker 3:

Hold on. I have never heard that. KP's a pageant queen? She's never mentioned this before.

00:05:15 - 00:05:19 | Speaker 5:

Haven't you seen pictures? No. I think you've seen the scene. No, I know you've seen the scene.

00:05:20 - 00:05:27 | Speaker 3:

I'm joking because KP is the most pro-pageant I've ever seen any human being in the world.

00:05:27 - 00:05:57 | Speaker 1:

Okay, don't say that. I just had a great time, a different type of experience than normally others would have at a pageant world. Just because I wasn't there to be super serious was mostly to have just a really good time. But I will give you some advice, Mojo. If you are walking, just make sure you're walking with your hips forward. What does that mean? I'd have to show you, but if you're like, you can't have, you got to be really tall. Take your time. My mom.

00:05:58 - 00:06:01 | Speaker 5:

Don't tell him that. Yeah, look at that. That looks ridiculous.

00:06:01 - 00:06:03 | Speaker 1:

It's going to fall over. It looks like you're, I don't know what you're doing.

00:06:04 - 00:06:07 | Speaker 3:

I'm showing all the moms in the audience my junk.

00:06:08 - 00:06:17 | Speaker 1:

No, that's not what you want. Also, close the kitchen. My pageant trainer always told me, do not spread your legs apart. Close the kitchen. Close the kitchen.

00:06:18 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 3:

By the way, that's a suggestion most dads of teenage daughters say to them, too. Close the kitchen.

00:06:24 - 00:06:27 | Speaker 5:

What is the purpose of the fashion show? Is it like a fundraiser? I think so, yeah.

00:06:27 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 3:

I think it is a

00:06:29 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 5:

Can we come?

00:06:31 - 00:06:34 | Speaker 3:

You know what? I don't know You gotta buy tickets

00:06:34 - 00:06:36 | Speaker 5:

I will buy a ticket

00:06:36 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 3:

You gotta buy a table or something

00:06:37 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 5:

Megan, we need to be front row like at Fashion Week Yeah, and you're just gonna hear me go Every time you hit the stage

00:06:44 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 2:

You know how you've been talking about the intro mojo And the show opener I think you should change it to RuPaul's You Better Work

00:06:52 - 00:07:11 | Speaker 3:

Do you like that? Isn't that a good one? I started FaceTiming Luke He won't pick up a FaceTime He gets mad when I FaceTime all the time And I'll be on the couch And he'll be in his room I won't answer Why are you FaceTiming me

00:07:11 - 00:07:14 | Speaker 2:

I only FaceTime Let's see

00:07:14 - 00:07:23 | Speaker 3:

Hello Luke Yeah Hi

00:07:23 - 00:07:25 | Speaker 4:

Oh

00:07:25 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 3:

Oh, you don't have to be up for school?

00:07:29 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 4:

Not right now.

00:07:30 - 00:07:30 | Speaker 3:

Huh?

00:07:31 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 4:

Not right now.

00:07:32 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 3:

What's going on? You got a late start today?

00:07:34 - 00:07:35 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:07:35 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 3:

Real quick. I was telling these guys about the fashion show. Are you sure you want me to do the fashion show with you and not mom? She's much better looking than I am. I know. That's why I asked mom to do it, not you. What? Wait, mom said that I was doing it. Yeah, because she didn't want it to.

00:07:59 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 5:

Luke, is there something specific he has to wear? Like, is it a suit or it doesn't matter?

00:08:05 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 2:

There's like a theme and I don't even, they haven't given me anything. It's like sailor. They like pick your thing. Oh, okay.

00:08:13 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 3:

They pick it. What are you hoping that they pick for you? Is there a specific type of clothes that you'd like? Is it sweatshirt and sweatpants?

00:08:21 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 2:

No, I have no clue. No, I said that. I don't know.

00:08:25 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 3:

Are you worried that I'll embarrass you? Because most of you guys always worry when I come to your school that I'm going to embarrass you guys.

00:08:32 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, I am. Yeah, that's why I ask you guys.

00:08:38 - 00:09:25 | Speaker 3:

And why did you, so you did not sign up for this, right? You were forced to do this? Not really. Yeah, kind of. Do you get extra credit for it? Will they graduate you with honors? Will this get you a rope at your graduation to wear around your, like one of those tassel things like all the smart kids wear? I wish, but no. All right. Well, you go back to bed, and you and I are going to talk a little later about this thing. But here's the deal. You understand that department stores don't usually have my size, so I don't know how this is going to work. All right. I love you. Yeah, I love you, too. I love you, too. By the way, that's the first time I've ever had somebody with that deep of a voice tell me that they love me. You feel safe here, does it?

00:09:25 - 00:09:32 | Speaker 2:

I do. And just in case you're wondering, you can buy those tassels on Amazon and wear them to any graduation. Oh, my God.

00:09:33 - 00:09:45 | Speaker 3:

Should I do that for him? Would that not be the funniest if all of a sudden he goes up there? Actually, Jacob had a bunch of those things when he graduated. So maybe he still has them hanging in his room and Luke can show up with them.

00:09:45 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 2:

He's got 30 of them. I had a lot of them. I earned a few of them.

00:09:50 - 00:09:51 | Speaker 3:

What's up, Katie?

00:09:52 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 2:

Hi, good morning, you guys. I just texted and I said, if I was Luke, I would be so livid if you woke me up on a

00:09:58 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

late street like this.

00:10:00 - 00:10:07 | Speaker 3:

I know. You know what? I need a schedule because I don't never know when they do late start or when they do the early start.

00:10:07 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 6:

And I feel like you do it to him every time he gets. Yeah, it is.

00:10:12 - 00:10:15 | Speaker 3:

I mean, how much late starting are they doing at that school, for God's sakes?

00:10:16 - 00:10:17 | Speaker 2:

That is true. It is a lot.

00:10:17 - 00:10:17 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:10:17 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 5:

And then if he complains, are you giving him the speech over the kitchen table that this job pays for that school, so you have to answer the phone?

00:10:25 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 3:

Well, it is interesting that we pay for it and they delete starts so often. I don't feel like I'm getting my money's worth. And then I've got to go to a fashion show. All right, we'll talk to you later.

00:10:35 - 00:10:37 | Speaker 2:

Have fun, you guys.

00:10:37 - 00:10:38 | Speaker 3:

Thanks, Katie. Have a great weekend.
