This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. This Friday night is a special charity event in memory of our great friend Tom Killer Kowalski, who actually was one of our great people that work on WDFN when that radio station honestly should have never gone off the air. Might have been the biggest mistake that this company has ever made was to allow 97.1 to get their own sports station. But we had Killer Kowalski that worked with us, and every time in the hallways, I would see him all the time. We used to go to the bathroom at the same time. And he would say, What you guys talking about this morning? Lots of girl stuff? And I would say, yeah. Killer, we're talking about girl stuff. And he loved it. he would come in and hang out with us and we would talk lions and that was when the line could you imagine how killer would have been if the with the lions the way they are right now

Neil is part of the Tom Kowalski Foundation. Tom used to do a Christmas party at a very small, probably about the size of this studio bar in Kegel Harbor called the Brewhouse. And Tom never wanted, Tom loved kids and he never wanted to see a kid go without a Christmas. So he started this Christmas party every year, and the owner of the bar gave him half of the proceeds, and I'd donate. I was a Red Wing season ticket holder. I'd give him that, and Wojo and Stoney and a bunch of the—

A lot of the Red Wings, Mickey Redman.

Yeah. Would show up at this little podunk bar, and Tom would end up making $4,000 or $5,000, which he would donate to a place called Our Children's Fund of West Bloomfield. And they gave Christmas gifts to kids in Kegel Harbor and West Bloomfield that didn't have enough to have a Christmas. Beautiful thing. Which is something that was very hard for me to understand, that some child in West Bloomfield couldn't have. But there's many. Zip code doesn't matter. Tons. So Tom passed away 14 years ago. and a bunch of us uh friends of his woody woodruff matt riley so on and so forth we said we're going to do this one more time in tom's honor and it was crazy i mean people were walking in first of all you couldn't move so some people are walking in handing money to people and leaving because there was nowhere to go and we ended up raising about twenty five thousand dollars wow um since then, now going into our 15th year, 14th year, we've raised over a million dollars. We raised $100,000. $43,000 last year. Just at this one night at the Lodge Grill and Bar in Kegel Harbor

on Orchard Lake Road. Best nachos in America. You always talk about their nachos. There was one year Stuart Sackwell, my tax guy, said to me, he goes, I'm looking at receipts. Why do you keep putting receipts down? because I would go there all the time and I'd hang out and I'd bring listeners and all this stuff. I'm like, can I write this stuff off? What is going on? Let's help me out with this. But it was always the Lodge.

So the event kept getting bigger and bigger. We had to move it, unfortunately, from the Brewhouse to somewhere bigger, which is the Lodge. The Lodge, yeah. Brewhouse is still there. Yeah, yeah. And the owners of the Lodge are gracious enough to give us the entire building.

and it's guy you know in the the stuff first off there's a ton of and we're in a second we'll talk about some of the names of people that are going to be there because yeah i i always i always oh it's kind of cool when listeners of ours come out to these things yeah and people will do something but then i see how many people love drew and mike that you know like drew's on drew's got one of the most popular podcasts they're huge fans of drew and mike so and then all these red wings guys that will come you know current players to to the you know the legends and stuff that will come and work the bar um but then they have so many prizes and so many things there and they do

it for killer i mean people what a legacy to like that is incredible tom killer kowalski was one of

the best writers reporters on-air sports guys he knew lions better than probably the ford family knew the lions and he was the only guy that could tell mr ford what the hell are you doing and get away with it and not get his credentials taken away from him.

Yeah, and, you know, it's a small group of us that, you know, we're 5013C. We're a legitimate charity, and we have no expenses whatsoever. So, you know, some printing costs here and there. But, you know, all of the money we raise every year goes directly to four basic children's charities in town that we support. And then every now and then we get hit up from, you know, someone that needs a ramp put in their house or things like that.

So it's just who are some of the guys that are going to be first off, who's working? I'm going to be there at seven o'clock. He always needs to know who he's going to be rubbing shoulders with. bill i go great and i put it right in into the bucket so all the all tips that are made that night go go to the charity um and you know most of the employees that are working donate their time and their money to the charity it's just it's just incredible it's an incredible thing and it's you know it's all for the kids which makes it even better and we've got some really great um raffle uh silent auction items of one of which uh two of which were donated by our hair which is great. A courtside four seats and a courtside suite for the Pistons, which I hear is pretty new and pretty cool. I guess no one in the NBA has something that unbelievable. I knew Kev would know. Kev knows.

In Kev, he spends so much time with people there. They got some Lions stuff, too, I saw. That's amazing.
