A home World Cup only happens once in a lifetime, and we are not missing a second. I'm Castle 1021. On the 1021 podcast, me and the crew break down every match like it's personal. The drama, the upsets, the debates you'll be having all day. Soccer, culture, and chaos in one place. Pick a side, we already did. Listen to the 1021 podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:00:25 - 00:00:55 | Speaker 6:

This is Michael Rappaport, and my podcast, the I Am Rappaport Stereo Podcast, is unlike any one you've ever heard. If you're looking for strong opinions about sports, entertainment, politics, pop culture, and whatever else catches my attention, then subscribe now. For years, The Unhoused has been presented as a monolith in mainstream media. We The Unhoused is a podcast that's changing the narrative. I'm Theo Henderson, and I created this show while I was unhoused on the streets of Los Angeles. We've grown into a two-time Webby Award winning podcast. The only podcast that shares unhoused stories and news from the unhoused perspective. Listen to We The Unhoused on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:27 - 00:01:34 | Speaker 5:

all right mojo in the morning show so megan you guys may not like celebrate christmas or may not

00:01:35 - 00:02:05 | Speaker 3:

do like a gift at home here's the thing i don't know if i'm being a brat or not and by the fact that i brought that up probably uh but we were discussing as a family my dad my brother and i what our plans were for this christmas and i feel like i was outnumbered and that I was going to come off like a brat. So I don't know if I necessarily made my feelings well known to the group, but they don't want to do a holiday gift exchange this year.

00:02:05 - 00:02:13 | Speaker 5:

Which is interesting because a lot of people are doing that this year. They're saying they don't want to spend the money on the holidays because it's so crazy right now.

00:02:14 - 00:03:14 | Speaker 3:

Well, first of all, just a little prerequisite. I don't trust my dad that he won't get us stuff. And if I show up empty handed, it will make me feel like a terrible daughter. I know he loves us. I know he wants to spoil us when he can, but it does make you feel bad as an adult when you show up to something and your dad gets you a gift and you didn't give him one. You're like, oh, that feels bad. But my brother is very adamant that we should not be doing a gift exchange this year. they want to do something else instead whether that's a donation or volunteer work or something other than a gift exchange because we are all adults who don't need anything or really want anything this year and i felt like i was the only one in the group that was like i want christmas presents we talked about but i couldn't say that because i was outnumbered and it made me feel like i was i don't know being materialistic and i just it's christmas it's christmas and i want to do something nice for the community and get a gift is that too much to ask for

00:03:14 - 00:04:06 | Speaker 5:

i like that i listen that's totally fair i i always say that whenever chelsea and i will say nobody's you know we're not going to do gifts this year we're not going to do that we're just going to do the kids i always feel like there's an ulterior motive in there like she's going to get me something and i'm going to look bad or whatever and it always we never end up agreeing to do the non-gifts like we always end up doing something for each other and i think in this case with your family i could see where your dad will probably buy you guys something because he's just a great guy yeah your brother's not buying you crap i mean john's saying john's saying oh great i'm not i'm not buying anything at all but um but i don't know are there families that are doing this where they're doing the uh whole we're not going to give gifts thing and does it ever work out that way or does it cause fights i don't do gifts with

00:04:06 - 00:04:28 | Speaker 2:

my dad and my stepmom we do you guys do experiences we do um we will like do an airbnb or stay at one of my friends houses like up north or something in the summer and that's what we put our money toward instead is like spending a weekend together and i have to tell you it's it's amazing because that's one of my favorite weekends of the year you know is getting to spend time with my dad

00:04:28 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 5:

of my stepmom and the kids um but do you guys uh when you do it like if it's in the middle of summertime do you guys dress up in christmas clothes just to remind yourselves that that's what it came from no you guys should do that yeah i'll wear the christmas pajamas and everybody

00:04:44 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 2:

will be like why are we wearing them no but so normally my sisters and i don't do gifts for each other either like we'll do we'll go get our nails done or something around christmas time but i said to my younger sister jacqueline the other night when i was at her house i'm like i kind of want to do gifts this year like in exactly what megan

00:05:00 - 00:05:03 | Speaker 6:

said. I'm like, I don't know. Wes and I aren't doing gifts.

00:05:03 - 00:05:07 | Speaker 4:

Oh my gosh, really? You guys are newly dating.

00:05:08 - 00:05:13 | Speaker 6:

Well, we're taking a little vacation, so we're putting our money toward that instead of doing gifts. Well, I'm doing that too, but

00:05:13 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 1:

don't you have anything in exchange? One little thing under the tree? We'll do

00:05:17 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 6:

stockings, because that was his tradition growing up, was his mom only had enough money to get the

00:05:21 - 00:05:26 | Speaker 4:

kids a stocking. What's in the stocking? It's not just an empty stocking.

00:05:26 - 00:05:27 | Speaker 6:

Well, I can't say in case he's listening. No, I know, but what

00:05:27 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 4:

kind of stuff would be in the stocking? Oh, I'll put little things in there? Like, what's little in your

00:05:32 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 6:

world? Like, a pair of pajama pants. Oh. I don't know. Treats.

00:05:37 - 00:05:56 | Speaker 4:

Like, clothes. Like, what I get for Father's Day. That sounds like the gifts that I own. He loves to read. So I'll get him a book. Always sucks. Yeah, underwear. Actually, I'll be honest with you. I will not give him underwear. I love underwear. I do. Because the underwear I wear is nice underwear. I like the Tommy John stuff. What's going on, Julie?

00:05:58 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. Yeah, my family, the spouses and stuff still, you know, adults still exchange, but we decided as a group that we weren't going to do gifts anymore because we took so much time unwrapping them. And we were like, well, we'll just do for the kids, and we're all adults, we don't need it anyway. So if we're going to want something, we buy it for ourselves. So we don't do gift exchange with adults, and we spend the whole day eating and playing card games like Cards Against Humanity and stuff.

00:06:24 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, that's cool.

00:06:24 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, but I feel like Christmas magic is gone. when you grow up. Yeah, but we're still all together and we all give kind of gifts throughout the year like, hey, I was thinking about you and picked this up and stuff, and then we do big stuff for birthdays. But what's happening

00:06:42 - 00:07:03 | Speaker 1:

in your situation and Shannon and Megan, like we all complained about how Halloween's not Halloween anymore because nobody goes trick-or-treating they do a quick trunk-or-treat and kids don't want candy. Well, we're slowly moving away from those old Christmas traditions too It's like, if we're not going to exchange gifts on Christmas, then it's kind of changing the whole vibe and the feel of what you did Christmas morning.

00:07:04 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 6:

I don't have Christmas spirit because of this.

00:07:07 - 00:07:11 | Speaker 5:

My husband and I still exchange gifts.

00:07:11 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:07:12 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 5:

But I don't have a significant other thing for reminding me.

00:07:15 - 00:07:17 | Speaker 4:

Exchange it with your husband, Megan. Exchange it with your husband.

00:07:18 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 3:

If my family don't get me gifts, I don't get gifts.

00:07:22 - 00:07:39 | Speaker 4:

Hey, Andrew, there's a bah humbug moment here for Megan. What do you guys do, Andrew? Hello? Hello. Would you like to be Megan's husband? Go ahead. I'm sorry. You have a wife. What were you going to say?

00:07:40 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 2:

So my wife is just trying to be a minimalist this year, and she don't want any gifts for even the kids. She don't want any toys, no thing unless it's absolutely necessary, like maybe clothes. But she would rather just maybe spend time, like, on a vacation or something, make it a memory, not just putting stuff out.

00:07:58 - 00:08:00 | Speaker 6:

Are your kids little, or are they older?

00:08:00 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 2:

So I do. My son just turned two years old, and my daughter just turned seven.

00:08:05 - 00:08:07 | Speaker 6:

Oh, you've got to do toys.

00:08:08 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, you've got to do something for your kids. You've got to do toys. You can't do experiences, though, with the kids when they were little. I mean, we did a couple toys, too, but we did, like, Grand Rampage Public Museum, like a gift card for the year.

00:08:18 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 6:

But you threw some toys under the tree.

00:08:20 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 4:

Nah, kids want toys. I'm sorry. No offense.

00:08:22 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 1:

You can't explain to them that we're just going to have an experience next month.

00:08:26 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 4:

You've got to give them toys.

00:08:30 - 00:08:36 | Speaker 2:

Well, you can talk to my wife because I'm anti-herdecision. If I'm anti-herdecision, we'll call her.

00:08:36 - 00:08:52 | Speaker 4:

I've got to call your wife. I've got to call Scott and Sean. I've got to call all these people and tell them. Come on, you've got to at least do something. Kids want toys. You know Adults can do experiences

00:08:52 - 00:08:58 | Speaker 3:

Yeah but experiences don't have to be like vacations They could be like a gift card for the year To the trampoline park

00:08:58 - 00:08:59 | Speaker 1:

Or anything else

00:08:59 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 6:

A zoo membership

00:09:01 - 00:09:08 | Speaker 1:

It's called having kids and living all year You can do all those things But kids don't understand that's part of the Christmas gift You just do it

00:09:08 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 4:

To me I will never forget Unwrapping that Hot Wheels racetrack As a kid And not being able to put it all together But that was like the coolest thing ever You know and then We would get like stocking stuff for things Where like McDonald's those gift coupon books Like those were kind of cool Until my dad said To my mom aren't we trying to help him Lose weight like you know it was one of those type of things But I don't know I just think that For Megan and Scott and Sean Maybe you guys do like one gift for each person Like one little simple gift And it'd be like get something nice and small because Megan really wants something.

00:09:47 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 3:

Can you just tell them to please show me some love this holiday season?

00:09:52 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

Megan, I feel bad because we're doing a gift exchange here at our show where we all pick names and stuff like that.

00:10:00 - 00:10:07 | Speaker 3:

Maybe we all should buy Megan a bunch of gifts. What do you guys think? If you listen to the More Mojo podcast, I think that she really would want us to buy it.

00:10:08 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 2:

Let's put all the attention on Megan because that's what she loves.

00:10:11 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 3:

Go listen to that More Mojo podcast to understand why.

00:10:14 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 2:
