Good morning and welcome to the Mojo in the Morning Show. It is nice to have you guys here with us. Oh, it's such a beautiful, calm before the storm. If you haven't already heard, there's a big snowstorm that is supposedly coming our way. And it's one of those ones where I'm hoping that it's just talked about and not actually one that's going to be that big. But we've got more details on that coming, the Friday into the weekend storm. It's Mojo in the morning, Mojo Spike and Shannon, Megan, Mike, producers, KP. And Lydia answering your phones, plus got to say hello to all of those working in the office this morning. Today is a big office day for all the sales department staff. Real quick, I want to introduce you guys to a very good friend of mine. And our listeners will know him, especially if you are a fan of the Detroit Pistons or if you're a fan of the Michigan State Spartan basketball team, in studio with us is a very good friend of mine, Cav. What's going on, Cav? And how are you, buddy? What up?

00:03:59 - 00:04:00 | Speaker 5:

I'm great, man. How are you?

00:04:00 - 00:04:12 | Speaker 6:

Good. First off, you are the in-stadium announcer at the Detroit Pistons game. That is facts. And what a music bed to bring me in. Did you like that? I know. I love it. The final countdown. I'm used to seeing you.

00:04:12 - 00:04:19 | Speaker 3:

So now we're used to seeing him with so much energy at Little Caesars. It's funny to see him this early in the morning.

00:04:19 - 00:04:25 | Speaker 1:

No, no, you still have so much energy. He has sang every single song that we've played this morning.

00:04:25 - 00:04:33 | Speaker 5:

It's great music. Five thirty in the morning is definitely different than eight p.m. at night with 20,000 people watching. But it's still a good time.

00:04:33 - 00:04:48 | Speaker 6:

Can I tell you something? If Megan were in the studio today, you guys would make me have to like leave. I'd have to, like, go and get myself, I don't know, some kind of Prozac or something like that to work off the fact that both of you guys like to sing every song like Shannon said.

00:04:48 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 5:

Hey, well, look, Irish on Iona. That may be the time when we have to do a duet. Yeah, you want to come out? Yeah.

00:04:54 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 6:

Oh, my God.

00:04:55 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 7:

I'm here to bring him down with our happiness. Oh, my God.

00:05:00 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 2:

All right. So real quick, let me tell you how I've met you after COVID because you started as the announcer. And I remember going to a game when there was only like what I was going to say when there was only like 5000 fans in the stands. But now there's only like 5000 fans. I mean, but no, when there was only like, you know, a short amount of people that were allowed to go to the games because of COVID. And I remember watching you do your announcements and they would put you up on the 300 level or whatever it is. Yeah. And you and the cheerleaders and all those guys, it was the most stupid. You know how covid brought up the stupidness in people like everybody was fake socially distancing, you know, for purposes. But he would be up on the 300 level and they put you up there so that you were so far away from the players. You couldn't get them sick. Yeah. And I'm going, wait a second. They couldn't just have you guys like still be on the sidelines, just have you not as close to the court. But your energy was amazing. And then when they finally got you guys back into play, I watched him like, this guy is good. And I remember contacting you. And then we got a chance to meet. You know how we met? His lovely girlfriend. Yeah, my bae. His better half. She is the beautiful woman who we did our donation to at Christmastime of that van to take kids to go visit their parents who are incarcerated. Tell everybody about that

00:06:26 - 00:06:58 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, well you guys actually interviewed her around that time She has a foundation called Pure Heart That's for children of incarcerated parents And Mojo, Dwayne Casey Some amazing folks Some amazing folks and partners All banded together to help these kids Who rarely ever get to see their parents And with the money that was donated Purchased a van so we can drive and take these kids around And not only take them to see their parents But bring them to their offices At the old Marygrove location so we can have after-school programming and tutoring and mentoring and really start to foster and build a good community for these children.

00:06:58 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 2:

It's cool.

00:06:59 - 00:07:01 | Speaker 3:

Once again, big shout-out to you all for being a part of that.

00:07:01 - 00:07:17 | Speaker 2:

And also, everybody, Imagine Theater is great, too. The Casey family is amazing. Your story is awesome because I learned this from you after the fact, the mere fact that you're a product, you're a child of a parent that was incarcerated.

00:07:17 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, for sure. I mean, there's a lot of us out here. You know what I mean? You don't walk around with it with a badge But it's one of those things where it's kind of like an internal badge or an internal stain or at least you think it is You grow up and you kind of are like Man is something wrong with me or people looking at me or let's have a community Where there are other kids who are experiencing the same things that you are that you can talk to that you can see I'm not alone You're you know what's going on?

00:07:40 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 1:

It's really a few things where you carry a stigma attached to you and who you are even though you had nothing to do

00:07:46 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, so wait, so you it was your dad, right? Yeah, my pops and how old were you when your dad? I was third grade third grade is when he went in and you do you actually did you visualize him leaving and going to prison or

00:07:58 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 3:

No, so so the craziest thing so I love movies So when you talked about imagine big shout out to Anthony Laverne over there at imagine So the only thing that I remember about that time is we went to go see Godzilla Remember when Godzilla came out? Yeah Film and when the Millennium happened in 2000 that was the only thing so the entire family is kind of like a going away way party kind of thing we went to the movies so that was my only did you know going to the movies this was your dad's last and then he was going into uh i don't remember for sure um but i remember the next morning that was the hugs and the kisses and the tears and the goodbye and then uh five or six years later you know we were hugging and kissing and crying for a different reason that's because he was finally coming home that's awesome and did you have people in your life that stepped

00:08:42 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 1:

up as father figures or people that looked after you i mean the two most important people in my

00:08:47 - 00:08:54 | Speaker 3:

life are my mom and my grandmother and uh yeah they really stepped up for sure so so kev what

00:08:54 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 2:

do you like to be called kevin kev what do you i call you kevin you can call me kev you can call me kev yes kev knows on instagram yeah um uh you are you're amazing because this guy i've never seen him look at a moment as a struggle or anything. And that's the thing I think I love the most about you. Listen to this story. Tell me, Mike, this wouldn't be the coolest. So, Kevin gets the job. He got the job with the Pistons. He got the job with the Pistons by just contacting them, because he was working for Dan Gilbert over at Quicken, and he contacts them wanting to be the in-studio uh or the in-stadium announcer and they the person says to you hey send me an audition tape yeah and tell it tell that story well look so the craziest thing is i'm a big person and

00:09:47 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 3:

speaking things to existence i'm a firm believer of power of the tongue manifestation mind say you do anything in the world that you want to do so before this actual story that mojo is referencing many many years ago i put together a one

00:09:59 - 00:10:29 | Unknown:

Thank you.

00:10:00 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 5:

pager that said this is what i want to do this is why i want to do it this is why i think it's cool and why i should be the guy didn't know anyone to get it to fast forward i'm at a pistons game little did i know i'm on the jumbotron going crazy see a camera guy walk up he's like hey you were good i'm like hey this is what i want to do who should i contact he says just contact this guy do you have his card no i don't have his card do you have his instagram yeah here it goes and i started to dm this guy nice and sometimes he would reply sometimes he wasn't long story short two years go by now we're in covet season and he reaches out and he says hey are you still interested hell yeah wow then he says read this script and my girlfriend sherelle i'm in her apartment here looking crazy because it's covid probably like it is right now and i start sending them videos and then you know a couple months later there i was and there i am great story and

00:10:47 - 00:11:05 | Speaker 6:

he made a video just on the spot of him doing because i do yeah but talk i mean it's years He's in the meeting. That's old school radio. That's old school. Let's go. Make a homemade tape in a prod room. Yeah. And then he gets chosen to be the Michigan State Spartans. Let's go. How did that happen?

00:11:05 - 00:12:16 | Speaker 5:

So here's what I say. I prioritize kindness. And I think in any level of life, you should just be a good person. And you never know who you're going to meet. Oh, crap. I got to be kind? Come on. I'm sorry. All right. Not just around the holidays. I'm kind every day. Yeah. So what's crazy is when you talk about representing Dan Gilbert and being with the company, prior to the show today, I showed Spike a video outside of one of the buildings that I took of he and I six years ago. And you never know those little moments six years later what they can become. So I say that to say there were some individuals who were working inside of the Pistons organization and our G-League. Big shout out to LaRonda Burley and Ashton Henderson, who just got recently engaged. Oh, yeah. to you too applause applause so now they've moved on to michigan state and as coach izzo and the michigan state alumni and the leadership team over there are looking for different ways to heighten the level of fan experience they wanted to incorporate it in a game arena host so with my familiarity with those now in leadership and they know my skill and you know i'm all about it yes before no type attitude they asked me and i said let's go here wow so if you are in lansing at the breslin this saturday when we take on the ohio state buckeyes i'm taking luke to the game see

00:12:16 - 00:12:32 | Speaker 6:

you and luke there my buddy uh paul got me behind the uh the bench uh uh tickets do i gotta wear like uh uh do you have to wear like a special shirt or something like that i just like an his own shirt bring your green and white man all right i'm excited for this so kevin and this is

00:12:32 - 00:12:52 | Speaker 4:

perfect to have kevin on because i think it's one of those gray foggy days where people sometimes You might get a little lazy, a little frustrated. But to have that motivation, like Buddha said, what you think you become, what you feel you attract, what you imagine you create, it's all about manifestation. And we've talked about that on the show before.

00:12:53 - 00:13:00 | Speaker 6:

I love it. Well, hang out with us. Bathtub full of money. Bathtub full of money. Bathtub. There it is.

00:13:01 - 00:13:10 | Speaker 4:

Get the bathtub you want to attract. Hey, Mom, now that I have an after-school job, I think I want to buy a drum kit.
