Thank you so much. It was another step in our growth. Guys are beginning to make steps in the right direction. We need as many games like that as we can to grow up. I think a game like that for Jaden Ivey and Darren are huge because it kind of reaffirms what we're talking about in practice, what we're talking about in film sessions, the intensity you have to play with in an overtime game. Every possession is important. It should be important anyway, but much more so in an overtime win, an overtime game. So we need as much experience in those type of games as we possibly can get. And plus, it was a big bounce back from the other nightmare that we had the other night, the schedule loss we had the other night against, you know, the other night by 30 points. new york yeah so i i want to uh tell talk about the wish here in a second i'll get all the basketball stuff out of the way now because this is really cool what we're going to be doing for kids in in you know the detroit area here uh coach i really appreciate that mojo dude i gotta tell you something coach i can't believe i just called you dude the guy's a hall of famer i call them dude like i'm like his best friend um when when anthony came to me anthony our good friend from Imagine Theater came to me and he said, hey, Mojo, I know you guys step up for people and I know you guys love kids, but Coach Casey needs some help. I'm like, we're helping Coach Casey. Before that, Spike was complaining during the throwback throwdown this morning about the officiating that was going on here. One thing I noticed, I went to the game yesterday, I got to sit in front row seats. Coach Casey works the refs better than any other coaches. Most coaches sit there and call them stupid son of a bitches? Yeah, yeah. Coach Casey like whispers in their ear stuff. Is that what I was noticing when I saw you, like when guys would make bad calls?

It was funny because the female official, who is an up-and-coming young official, good official, mentioned, she said, Dwayne, you don't have to yell at me. And I said, okay, I'm not going to yell. I thought it was a travel. I mean, a very quiet boy, and she looked at me like I'd lost my mind, but she told me I was yelling at her so i i didn't want to do that officiating in the nba is probably one of the toughest jobs there is in in in the world you know because the game is so fast you don't have you know timeouts between each possession that it's free you know back and forth back and forth yeah they're changing directions they're breathing hard and trying to concentrate at the same time they have two coaches yelling at them and 10 players oh every time a call is made in the nba

Every player complains. Nobody's happy on that court.

Nobody. And then, too, I'm on the competition committee in the league, so I'm always telling them what we talked about in our meetings as far as rule interpretation, rule emphasis, and that type of thing. So it's a tough job, especially through a young team. It's very difficult because it's a lot easier to make a call against Jaden Ivey versus Luka Doncic.

Yeah. Luka Doncic, by the way, I got to be, like, right up close and personal to him. He looks a little chubby. I was actually kind of surprised how thick he was.

I'll tell you what, though. He's probably going to be one of the best players to ever play in the league. I mean, the history of his game is going to be good.

He can hit a shot. He's like Steph. He can hit a shot from anywhere.

Exactly. From anywhere. Down low. Even versus Steph. He's still strong enough and big enough to take you down low and put you in the basket versus Steph. But his range is just as deep, just as easy. And the other great thing about his game is he's a great passer and a willing passer for a superstar. And so that makes him that much more dangerous as far as a player is concerned. Because we had to trap him down the stretch on every possession. But he was making great decisions and attacking our traps. But he kept them off rhythm, out of rhythm of him knocking down threes. So it was a good defensive scheme for us going down the stretch.

All right, so let me get to the breaking and entering Christmas wish part. We have Coach Dwayne Casey on with us right from the Detroit Pistons. So Coach Casey and his beautiful wife have a foundation. It's called the Coach Casey Foundation, right? to Coach Dwayne Casey Foundation?

Yep, Coach, yes.

By the way, original. I mean, what a great name. I mean, might as well name it. That song was available, right?

You know, you were calling in to do a nice thing, and instead you just get made fun of. It's pretty standard.

No, no, no. So Coach Casey, so Anthony calls me up, and he's telling me about how Coach Casey and his wife are wanting to buy a 17-passenger van. You know one of those church vans? Yes. They want to buy it to help take kids, children, to visit their moms and dads who are incarcerated in prison.

Okay. Okay?

There are so many kids. I read the percentage the other day that the odds of a child who grows up in the city of Detroit, you have like a one in four chance of having your parent or at least one parent or guardian behind bars at some time in your lifetime. It's a tragedy.

Now, how are they currently making that happen? Or is there no way of getting it? Do they have to figure that out?

There's no official transportation that they have right now. Okay. That's why this is so important. Okay. And Hanson DeVerti, he's the best. And our other friend, Bruce Smith, we only have two friends in the city right now. Especially when you lose them, you don't have that many friends.

Great. Yeah, Bruce Smith and Anthony. Anthony's the best. And, you know, when you tell Anthony to go get something done and help you, it's like, you know, yesterday when he's on it. So he's done a great job, and we appreciate that, and we appreciate you, Mojo, for being involved. Because right now there's 40% of kids in the city of Detroit that have one or two parent incarcerated, and that's a sad statistic. But it's not the kids' fault. It's not the kids' fault. Pure Heart Foundation, guys, you know, is a foundation that helps kids. Sherelle Hogan, she's the CEO of it. But it takes a holistic approach of helping kids with parents incarcerated because you can imagine the stigma, the feeling that those kids have, you know, that they don't have one parent at home, that one parent's in jail. One young man did a video talking about how it was the best day of his life just coming to our practice. And they had a video of him talking to his father, incarcerated, and it brought tears to my eyes. But it's a holistic approach of helping those young kids break the cycle, whether it's education, health, mental health, just anything they can do to help the kids break that cycle. and they have a 100% graduation rate to 2015. And the work that Sherelle and her staff, what they do for those kids is unbelievable. And it just breaks your heart to see, you know, just imagine how much work it is for the community, aunts, uncles, cousins that they're living with to help them. But this provides a place for those kids to go to a safe place for a holistic approach to help them break that cycle.

So, Mojo in the Morning's Breaking and Entering Christmas Wish, along with DMS Detroit and the Dwayne Casey Foundation, are buying a van to take these kids to and from so that they can go see their parents.

Thank you. Thank you, Mojo. And, you know, you're helping us and being a part of it. And it will mean so much just for these kids to be able to go. because, like I tell the kids always, my wife gives me a hard time because I say it all the time. Their circumstances shouldn't dictate who these kids are. Whatever we can do to help them break the cycle, what their mom and dad did or made a mistake doesn't make them a mistake.

We appreciate you, Coach. The deck is stacked against these kids, and you're really helping. And the whole season of giving, I see the Pistons out there fighting absenteeism in school and the players are out delivering coats and gloves to the schools in the area and you're really starting from that ground level of making a difference because the make a difference starts in the homes

Do you know the average age of a Pistons player right now is like 21 years old right? Isn't it? Something like that?

I think it's either one or number two I know KC's the youngest team in the league It's amazing. And guys that's what's so important people forget. I mean somebody they say, you know, Casey, you suck, da-da-da. But they forget that we're in the business of not only developing NBA players, we're in the business of developing young men. And for us to give them an example of going into the community, working with other kids, to see the look on these kids' face, and we'll bring the kids from the Pure Heart Foundation, you know, to meet the players and to see their faces light up. And for a lot of these kids, it's a highlight of their life. And but also, too, it it humbles our players. It shows them the fact that, you know, give them an opportunity to to give back to the kids, to to humble them. And also, too, it's funny because it wasn't too long ago when they were those little kids. Yes. NBA players, NFL players, baseball, whatever.

Full circle. Coach, I don't know who's the shortest player that's ever played for you, but I think I might find. Who is it?

J.J. Barea in Dallas.

Oh, my God. J.J. Barea. I forgot about that. J.J. Barea. How tall was he?

He's every bit of 5'10". And my wife teased me all the time because I would come home after practice. We're never going to win an NBA championship with a point guard that's 5'10". And lo and behold, J.J. helped us win a championship in Dallas.

Yeah, isn't that amazing? I got a shorter guy than that. Mike from our show. Mike from our show is how tall are you, Mike? Five, six-ish. Five, six. Five, six. And if you could see this guy's handles and his three-point shot, I'm telling you, Coach, you would sign him up for the team. You'd at least put him on the G League team.

Well, at least we can definitely get a little –

Coach Dwayne Casey, this is the first time I've had an opportunity to have you on the show and first opportunity I've ever gotten to meet you. And I'm going to say this to you. You are awesome. I might have been one of those fans screaming, fire this guy.

But it's like I tell the players, you can't listen to the noise. because if you listen to the noise, you'll be sitting with them in the stands pretty soon if you listen to everything. And I've been in it so long, Mojo, that kind of stuff really motivates me to work hard and try to be a leader for these young men. But it does.
