All right, Mojo on the morning show. Oh, you know what? I've got to bring this up because this is big news for anybody that lives in Michigan. You've got to know this. Starting Friday, if you're on your cell phone with it in hand and not on a Bluetooth, you are going to get pulled over and you're going to get yourself a ticket.

00:02:40 - 00:02:45 | Speaker 1:

100 bucks. Who do you think on this show is going to be the first one to get that ticket?

00:02:45 - 00:03:12 | Speaker 4:

I might get the distinct honor of that probably Although I do have CarPlay That Apple CarPlay in my Which you know is usually hit or miss sometimes Sometimes it actually screws up I don't know Mike that's a good one Would the listeners call us up and tell us who they think The odds are The odds on favorite of doing that Which one of you guys or any of you guys Talks on your phone on a handheld Or do you guys all use the speaker system I use the speaker

00:03:12 - 00:03:19 | Speaker 1:

If I'm going based off of everybody at dinner the other night I would say it's either Kev or KP

00:03:19 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 4:

By the way, could Kev and KP have been on their phones more? It's not like they were posting stuff for social media purposes They weren't doing any of that stuff Kev was working the jukebox There you go For the record Playing horrible music on the jukebox We enjoyed it on our side of the table And KP's over there And I think KP was taking selfies still She was looking fine So she was trying to take some pictures

00:03:44 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 5:

How many times did your dad And my dad tell us Put down

00:03:49 - 00:03:52 | Speaker 2:

I felt like I was back in high school

00:03:52 - 00:04:01 | Speaker 5:

Me too Leave me alone They were trolling us the whole night Oh there they are Actually at one point

00:04:01 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 4:

I think I heard Tim say something About how Shannon should just call Megan And they'd be on the phone together Okay so here's the here's the rules of this whole thing. And there's some interesting rules to it because you could get yourself into a little bit of trouble if you do use your phone and have it in your hand. The only way that you can have it in your hand to use it is if you're calling 911 because there's some kind of an emergency. Otherwise, you have to use the hands-free devices like CarPlay or Android Auto or have earbuds in your ear. But the first time that you get charged with this, you get $100 first-time offender penalty and or 16 hours of community service, followed by the second time $250 fine, and then the third time, if you get it three times in the course of, I think it's three times within three years, you actually could lose your license for nothing.

00:05:00 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 2:

90 days. And the reason that they say that they're doing this is back in 2022, they say that there was a record amount of accidents that took place in Michigan and the people were on their phones at the time. Did you guys know that if you get into an accident, I don't know if you guys have ever had this happen. Do you know that the insurance companies or even, you know, the people that you, like the people that you hit or whatever, if you hit somebody that they could actually subpoenaed to see if you were on the phone at the moment that you had that accident. They sure can. And they'll be able to test it out. But how can they prove that you were

00:05:34 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 4:

on your phone? Well, that's the

00:05:36 - 00:05:40 | Speaker 2:

thing. It's, you know, that's kind of a fine... That is interesting

00:05:40 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 4:

because I do, like, when I text, the majority of the time, I really do use the CarPlay system. It's so easy. I love the H3 podcast. I watch it on YouTube. It would look like I'm watching YouTube, but I'm just, like, it's in my cup holder.

00:05:54 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 2:

I'm listening. Yeah. Here's the the part that I think is a bunch of BS, a load of BS. And KP, grab some phones. I want to see what people say about this. By the way, Lydia is out sick today. She thinks that she got food poisoning or something. 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548 is our telephone number. Thoughts on this law? And has anybody ever been busted in other states that have had this? You'll have to call us because I actually felt like I was going to get busted when I was in Los Angeles at one point. I thought the cop saw me and was going to pull me over. And they're really strict in there about that. Um, the thing I wanted to do to bring up was they're, they're recommending that you get those things that the Uber drivers have, which is where you can put your phone on your dash. I actually have one of those things. So they're recommending that you put it there and you're not looking, you know, at your phone or have your phone in your hand. That's basically saying, okay, I put it there and you can actually watch your phone from there. I know it's, you can text, you can still text, you know, or, you know, it's not in your hand. And so there's a kind of a, I don't know, there's kind of a weird thing to this whole thing. Is it really going to help people?

00:06:59 - 00:07:01 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, and good luck trying to get those to stick in the winter.

00:07:01 - 00:07:03 | Speaker 2:

Right. What's up, Adam?

00:07:04 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 5:

I hate this so much, but it really is better. Every state that's done it, as that drops in, it's the right thing to do. But I'm one of the people that drives talking on my phone all the time. So I know I'm going to get caught on it. But every state that's done it, all the data, and they can totally tell if you're talking on your phone, If you're texting on your phone, all that data gets sent through and they can tell me they know what you're doing on your phone if they subpoena your records. But this is going to be rough.

00:07:33 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 2:

Can I be honest with you? I don't know if I buy any of the states that have put it in. The things have gone down. I think everything is – I'm a conspiracy terrorist to this whole thing. And I want to know why the government wants to, like, keep you from being on your phone and your hand and stuff like that. Because I will say this to you. If you're using the Bluetooth, you're just as using – you know, how many times have you had it where you can't get your song to play and you're looking at your screen in front of you and pushing the button or trying to figure it out?

00:08:06 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 5:

Right. So you're interacting with your phone looking at your screen.

00:08:09 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 2:

Right.

00:08:09 - 00:08:27 | Speaker 5:

But, no, so, like, forever ago, there was – I don't know, 2020 Dateline, one of those things. but they had a professional driver drive a course by himself. They timed everything. Then they had him drive a course while they talked to him on the phone, asking questions like, what's 2 plus 2? What's your address? And blah, blah, blah. Significant drop in ability.

00:08:28 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 2:

Interesting.

00:08:28 - 00:08:34 | Speaker 5:

It does make sense. Do you want your 17-year-old talking on their phone while they're driving, or do you want them to have a little bit on the steering wheel?

00:08:34 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 3:

Why not just create something that, like, when you're driving fast, like they do with Pokemon Go. I know this is a silly reference, but with Pokemon Go, if you're in the car, you cannot use it because you're moving too quick and the app recognizes So now I'm a passenger and I can't use my phone? Well, so? You need to use your phone that bad? What do you need it for? What do you need it for?

00:08:56 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 4:

You've never sat in the car with my brother longer than 20 minutes. I need a break. That is true. What if you're the passenger and you're on a 10 hour road trip? Well, they always ask that

00:09:06 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 2:

question. You ever notice that when you're on certain things? Are you the driver?

00:09:11 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 4:

yeah and you just hit no what's up dustin how's it going good what's going on not much

00:09:18 - 00:09:23 | Speaker 1:

yeah i'm gonna have to say if megan lives lived in michigan uh she'd probably be the first one

00:09:23 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 3:

to get that ticket i think which is why i i think this is funny because i think out of all of us

00:09:27 - 00:09:39 | Speaker 1:

i'm on my phone the least well you're on your phone the least talking to people talk about how you drive though you'd just be the one that the cop sees just at that moment you have your phone

00:09:39 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 3:

in your hand for whatever reason how do i talk about me being a bad driver no i will not allow this slander this is not fair no i'm not a bad driver megan always says that she's the one that

00:09:50 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

gets in trouble for stuff that other people do all the time that's what i get he's saying but i will say this megan's not on her phone making calls or texting she's tick tocking that is that is

00:10:00 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 7:

Tina, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning.

00:10:04 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 4:

Hello.

00:10:05 - 00:10:06 | Speaker 7:

Hi, Tina.

00:10:07 - 00:10:09 | Speaker 4:

You would be the first one to be pulled over Mojo.

00:10:09 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 7:

I think you're right. Yeah, I think you're absolutely right, Tina. You've heard before about me and how my wife has taken my phone and thrown it out the window. Long Lake Road just before Middle Belt. Thank God it landed in grass that was right there And I was able to find it But she was really upset with me Because I wouldn't put my phone down I wonder if there are any cops that are willing to tell us If they're going to start writing tickets on Friday Or is this something that Like the seatbelt law That they're just only going to look for on certain days

00:10:46 - 00:10:53 | Speaker 6:

It feels like one of those things Where they'll see you swerve a little And then that will be their reason It's just another reason they could pull you over

00:10:53 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 7:

Hey Sarah, what's going on?

00:10:56 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 4:

Hi there So, I think that the law is a really good idea, especially with, I know people who go on business calls while they're in their car. And I feel like when you're doing a business call or, you know, anything where you have to be, like, fully, you know, focused in on the meeting, you're really taking away your focus on the road. So, you're partially paying attention because, you know, you're trying to wait for, like, key information and stuff. I think that it's, like, a good thing, especially when it comes to that.

00:11:29 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 7:

You know what's funny?

00:11:30 - 00:11:32 | Speaker 4:

But you're still going to be listening to the same call.

00:11:32 - 00:11:35 | Speaker 9:

Your phone is just going to be on a stand or in your cup holder.

00:11:36 - 00:11:56 | Speaker 4:

Do you see what I mean? I feel like, you know, for, like, conversations, like, if you're just asked to, like, go get something from the grocery store or something, it's different. I just, I look at it more of, like, a focusing standpoint. if you're on a call that you have to have your undivided attention for you are taking your you

00:11:56 - 00:12:32 | Speaker 7:

know your focus completely off the road i i will say i will say this with the whole like you know people working from home you know that there's a million and one people because i've done it that have taken a zoom or a team's call in their car driving yeah way i would ever do that again now that it's illegal um david would like to talk to a pacific a pacific coaster no a specific member of the show here who is that david megan's a horrible driver why do you say that

00:12:32 - 00:13:01 | Speaker 8:

she cut me off i'm on row avenue and then i had to slam my brake and she turns into the car wash i'll never forget it she's a horrible driver forever how do you know it was me um your windows aren't that tinted you're in your jeep we've seen it with you me and my wife yeah but like okay okay so and you went into there i live in toledo don't just yourself you're a crappy driver

00:13:01 - 00:13:17 | Speaker 9:

i live in toledo where we have eight million and a half jeeps i think that i've taken my car through a car walk okay why are you cutting this man off again

00:13:17 - 00:13:18 | Speaker 6:

Just let him talk.
