mojo in the morning show one of uh my friends got called into their human resources office for something that he had in his little work area and you guys tell me if you think that this company did him wrong okay i'm not gonna say the name of the company And I'm not going to say the name of the friend either because some people, if they hear it, will know who I'm talking about. But in his work area, he had a little Jesus statue. And he had the statue there that was there. And by the way, I have to let you guys know, it's not like a normal religious Jesus statue. It's a little statue. Here, I'll send it to you guys so you guys all have it. it kind of looks like, I don't know how you describe it. How would you describe this Jesus statue? It's like a...

Oh, it's like a happy, like cartoony Jesus. Like somebody made it out of clay. Yeah.

Oh, it's a kid Jesus.

Yeah, it's a kid. It looks like, yes, it looks like the Jesus in the kids, like, Bible.

And it says, Jesus loves you.

Wait, that's cute.

And Human Resources came to him and said, hey, we got a complaint about the Jesus statue. and they said you have to take the Jesus statue down so he was like really he was like really upset because he went into his company handbook and realized in his company handbook it says that there's protection of you know religious rights and they then claimed that the statue made somebody feel uncomfortable so you had to get rid of it so he then said well wait a second I thought that we had protection of religious rights. And they said, well, we do, but, you know, we also don't want you guys to put stuff up in your work area, your workspace. So he kind of took it then to a next level. And he said, well, I'm uncomfortable with people putting their cats and dog pictures and family pictures up. So now the human resources people had to go to everybody and tell.

them all down why are you so close to his disc they looking at a little jesus well i don't know in i'll be honest with you i think it comes to a point where it's like i and i don't know what it's like to be a person who is um uncomfortable with a a jesus jesus like i don't know what it's like i'm not you know i like i'm you know jesus to me like i honestly the only thing that like would make me do is probably make the sign of a cross or something like that but then i get to a point where it's like we're getting so nitpicky on everything but then if the person put a picture of like hitler up there i would be like oh jesus christ

what's going on literally like that because that's not somebody's religion well right that's

very different to me but but if if the person's not religious that could be just as offensive to them i guess i don't know i just feel like maybe we're just all just so sensitive nowadays i don't know i wanted to see what your guys's thoughts were and in your company are you allowed to put things up or not put things up i still think it's interesting that our company iheart has that rule about how they don't want the studios to have stuff on the walls or they don't want people to put stuff in the cubicle i don't think it has anything to do with keeping things clean i think it has anything to do with this they want to protect themselves from some a situation like this that's very interesting does that make you think now you do you heard that heard about this

no i love your hat but it would bother probably the person that works in my friend's office it It says, God is good all the time. They probably would tell you that.

Tony, in all your years that you have been a manager, and you've been a manager for many, many years, right? Since how old were you when you became a manager for the first time?

Okay. No, I was talking about, I told you a story about the friend of mine that has the Jesus statue. Like, what would you, what would the company do? They would probably.

Boy, I don't know. I have never, never had anything like that happen. The little, how big is the statue? It looks like it's a little teeny one. Okay. Yeah.

Like four or five inches high.

Not even. Do you think people, were people offended by that? Some people in the office were offended by him having this up. And so they, the company asked him to take it down. Hannah, what's up? It's Mojo in the morning. Hi.

Hi. Good morning, guys. Okay. So I just, I wanted to put some perspective onto this. And obviously, HR is there to treat everyone fairly. Just imagine if his deskmate or someone next to him had a picture of Satan hanging up at their desk. Something tells me he'd probably go to HR and report that team member for that display of religious belief. So you kind of have to think of it from both sides. And when it comes to family, though, and the family pictures, it's not like I'm looking at your family and their faces are offending me.

But, Hannah, what if you're somebody that cannot have children? and you see children all day and staring you in your face that's that's a good point and i mean i but here but here it is is it a good is it a good point or are we getting are we blowing things out

of proportion i think i think that's taking it a step too far i mean i but is it because that person is also leaving the house and they're seeing families on the streets and it's not like

that's that's a step too far i think i just think this i think that if we are in a you know a world right now where i think that everybody is so on edge all the time where how did we get here because it was a point where i don't think we were here before and i don't know why it's gotten to this yep i wholeheartedly agree uh misfit victor is on the phone with us right now what's up victor

the beginning of this because uh somebody just texted me and told me guys are talking about this but it is it is like you brought up mojo somebody has pictures of their kids on there and you can't have children or if you're like megan and you hate children completely you have to remove those pictures somebody has a picture of their dog or cat and you're allergic to dogs or cats or it strikes a nerve with you you have to remove those those pictures the ladies brought up the whole thing about satan um if somebody had i've seen people wearing shirts that have you know satan on them or the pentagram or the upside down cross but that's their belief you know what if if they believe in that that's fine i don't sit here and run to hr or cry about it or try to force them to convert or anything like that but we've just become so sensitive and it's it's just so the

new policy here now is wait so you are you coming out right now to explain that this is you yeah 100 okay because i did not say i said it was just somebody i knew that was doing this

i did not say it was yeah yeah no it is me it is me and i had that little figure that i bought on tiktok on my desk on my desk not in the break room not on like whatever anywhere for anybody else to have to do you can buy jesus statues on tiktok yeah the trend is you you buy these you buy these little statues on tiktok i paid i think like 10 bucks for 50 of them says jesus loves you and you're supposed to leave them at certain places you know and i guess the trend is on you know they've been left all over that capitol building is all over everywhere you know somebody just at work just showed me one oh somebody left one that um forgot where at and by that fountain in detroit it's just a little thing and i had it on my desk not you know it's not 10 feet tall it's shorter than a quarter had it on my desk for two months and when they came up to me they said you have to remove it i said why they said somebody might find it offensive i said well the roof might cave in you know the world might end might you know what i could have Should I? Does anybody complain about it? No. So when I spoke to HR, I said, what are the, does it say anything in the handbook? No, they showed me the handbook and it says that they protect everybody's religious beliefs and make everybody comfortable and this and that. And I'm the one who said, well, I got to take this down. We got to take down everything. So they came out with the new Victor rule here and they, everybody had to take down family pictures, dog pictures. pictures uh wedding pictures anything that was on there because i said somebody could find somebody might quote unquote might find this offensive one day do you feel bad doing it that way though i do but it's just like hey you know what they say is what's good for the goose is good for the gander i guess i mean it's just like i said in the world that we live in right now anything can be offensive i could have a packet of sugar on my uh counter on my desk here and Somebody could say, oh, my dad's a diabetic. You need to remove that sugar.

You can only have splinter. But that's the part that bums me out. And listen, I get it. I think it's great that you're sticking up for your religious beliefs, but I think that there's got to be a point where the company's got to realize that the insanity is there. Hannah, what did you want to say? I just wanted to say, after hearing Victor on the show so much, this is so Victor-coded. Right? Exactly. You knew right off the bat when I said it was a friend of mine. And you knew exactly who the heck it was.

Oh, yeah, for sure. Oh, my gosh. And Jesus is still at my desk.

So you still have, wait, so they, wait, so even though they told you to take it down, you still have it up?

Oh, he's still there. Like one of my coworkers said, just say he resurrected.

Do you remember the guy that lived in Novi whose neighborhood association told me he had to take the nativity scene down? and we on our show did a live nativity scene where all of us on the show were one of the members of the, like, we were all there. I think Spike was Jesus. I think I was one of the, believe it or not, wise men. But it was back in the day, and it was his neighborhood association told him that he didn't want to do it. They literally had it in their association that you could not do it.

The worst part about this is the owner here is the nicest human being. he is a religious man we actually go to the same church saw him at mass on ash wednesday he's donated money to tons of charities including uh catholic charities i doubt if he even knows what's going on because he would probably uh you know completely flip the script on them but it's just like this day and age to complain about something like that it's it

It's ridiculous.

So I think nobody should have anything personal at their desk because that just, nowadays everything is, everybody's so sensitive and everything. I think HR should just have a rule that they should not have anything personal.

But where do you draw the line, then, is my question. Because if nobody can have anything at their desks, then it becomes what somebody's wearing that becomes offensive. Then it becomes what somebody has hanging from their rearview mirror when they park in the company parking lot. Like, where do you draw the line?

Or what about your iPhone pictures? What if your picture pops up on your iPhone or your watch?

That's what scares me is how far do you take it?

What's up, guys? Okay, first of all, I want to say I think that the guy went about it the wrong way. He should have. When they said people might find it offensive, okay, well, let's do this. Ask if anybody finds it offensive. Send out an email. Say, hey, is this offensive to anybody? If it's no, everybody's happy. I don't think the company is able to do that. I mean, why not?

I did bring that up. I said, well, who would find it offensive? Well, we can't say if somebody finds it offensive. If we asked everybody here and one person said, yes, we can tell you who it was. You know, it's that whole thing of.

You don't have to know who it was, but if nobody finds it offensive, then, you know, there shouldn't be any problem.

But it's about religion, so people might not be honest.

If you have to clear everything, though, through everybody, at some point, now you're getting to a point where you're going, man, the sad thing is you're going to start having people that are going to say, I'm only going to hire this type of people. I'm only going to hire Christians in this business, or I'm going to hire non-Christians. And then what do you got? You've got an unconstitutional situation going on.

I don't know. We have this guy, one of our leads here, a really nice guy. He has pictures of his sons on his desk. And he took them down and he said, with these pictures, he goes, this is my motivation to be here. I see these pictures more than I see my kids in real life because he works so much. And he's like, I can't even look at pictures of my kid now.

and but do you feel bad do you feel bad about that then um no not really because i mean

it's it sucks it sucks but i mean like like okay so according to this guy who just called everybody should be wearing a white or black t-shirt and jeans and you can't wear like a favorite band you can't wear like a brand or whatever and like and what is and then what have

we just become we just i've studied that in history where people all had to wear the same exact thing and and and honestly that's the sad part is that the whole beauty is our you know freedom of speech and speech also includes what we wear and what we put up in our in our businesses i just think it's gotten to a point where it's, it's sad. This is very, very sad. We are very, very sensitive.
