Here at the Happiness Lab, we're serving up some hot takes for the summer. Big ideas that just might reshape how you think about your well-being. Like the radical notion that we should get rid of small talk completely.

00:00:10 - 00:00:15 | Speaker 7:

We talk about current events. We talk about what you do for a living. But not, do you love what you do for a living? Is this your dream job?

00:00:16 - 00:00:28 | Speaker 6:

For more surprising ideas backed by psychological science, check out our new series, Happiness Hot Takes. Listen to the Happiness Lab with me, Dr. Laurie Santos, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:00:30 - 00:00:32 | Speaker 5:

Can superstars even exist the way they used to?

00:00:32 - 00:00:45 | Speaker 6:

2016 was sort of that last era of monoculture, where we still consumed things in community. Everybody wanted to be Beyonce at that point. I don't think we'll ever see another Rihanna.

00:00:46 - 00:00:52 | Speaker 4:

What does it mean to be Black and eat in America? You will never make me feel bad for being a Black girl, for being a Black American girl, ever.

00:00:53 - 00:01:04 | Speaker 5:

From music to food to the conversations shaping Black culture right now, Therapy for Black Girls is bringing it all to the mic. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:29 - 00:01:35 | Speaker 1:

Listen to Laugh But Not Least with MC Jin on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:35 - 00:01:40 | Speaker 8:

Mojo on the morning show, Megan. How are you? How are you doing?

00:01:41 - 00:01:42 | Speaker 3:

Great. How are you?

00:01:42 - 00:02:01 | Speaker 8:

This is like when the teacher at the beginning of the class goes, Megan. And then they pause for a second with a dramatic pause. And you don't know exactly what they're going to talk about. But I want to talk about the super toe after we get done talking about you and what happened at the dentist.

00:02:02 - 00:02:21 | Speaker 3:

Oh, my God. So I went to the dentist yesterday, by the way. No cavities. Yeah. Yay. Yay. Yay. I'm a little upset, though, because I go to a dentist. I go to Dr. Frank will love him, but he does families, and I've never been offered anything from the treasure box. and that's offensive.

00:02:22 - 00:02:25 | Speaker 8:

But they do give you a toothbrush and toothpaste on your way out.

00:02:25 - 00:02:43 | Speaker 3:

And floss. But I want a little treat. I just need a little treat for being such a good kid. But I was sitting in the chair yesterday, which, by the way, how expensive are those things? Because I'd like to have one in my living room to take a nap in.

00:02:43 - 00:02:44 | Speaker 9:

The dentist chair?

00:02:44 - 00:03:31 | Speaker 3:

Yes. Those are the perfect recliners. I don't know why people are out here buying recliners when we should all be buying dentist chairs anyways um i was sitting in the chair i was a little bit nervous and i have a group chat going with the girls here on the show and i i looked down because you know you're sitting there they're asking you some questions before they start like the whole exam or whatever and i i looked down at my feet and i was gonna take like a cute little instagram photo of being like i'm at the dentist i'm touching like a big kid look at me go um and I noticed that my my knees are bright red and I think I have a new nervous tell and I guess when I'm stressed out or a little bit nervous my knees turn bright red and I don't know what that means

00:03:31 - 00:03:36 | Speaker 8:

but I know that it's not good your knees are bright red like were you so you weren't kneeling

00:03:36 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 3:

at all or anything right no you know how like when you were little and you would get in trouble and your ears would get hot and red. That's what happened just to my knees.

00:03:44 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 8:

So a nervous tell for you is your knees are bright red.

00:03:48 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I think if I ever play poker professionally, pants are my only option. That's wild. She sent us a photo. They are bright, bright red. It almost looks like she has a rash on them.

00:03:59 - 00:04:04 | Speaker 9:

Your boots look cute, though. Some people get flush in the cheeks. I never saw it in the knees.

00:04:04 - 00:04:28 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I get so nervous. I get so nervous that I'm going to have a cavity that I just, like, stress myself out. And the first thing I do is usually, you know, Dr. Frank will come in and tell you, you know, do you have any or not? But I grabbed my dental hygienist and was like, what did the x-rays look like? Is it okay? And then as soon as she was like, I think it looks fine, knees went back to normal. It was so weird. So weird.

00:04:28 - 00:04:36 | Speaker 8:

So when you go to the dentist, do you worry that you're going to be told that you have cavities? It's like a report card of how you've done over the last six months?

00:04:36 - 00:05:30 | Speaker 3:

Yes. There's no pressure, like, finding out if you have cavities. or not i feel like it's the biggest adult test that we face you could reprimand me at work and i literally would not care even though no that's not true i'd probably cry in my car afterwards but like i keep it together but if the dentist comes in and was like mess immediately like panic i want to cry i i feel like i've failed uh lee what's up you wanted to say something to megan hi uh so i actually have the same tell that she does and i noticed it about a year ago but whenever i get nervous or if i get super excited for something my knees turn bright red and they get really really hot like 10 degrees hotter than the rest of my body wow megan are yours also hot too yeah they were so like this is so weird but i felt like i could like um you know how when it gets super hot people in arizona fry an egg i was It's like, give me an egg, let's go.

00:05:30 - 00:05:31 | Speaker 2:

Fry an egg right on those things.

00:05:31 - 00:05:38 | Speaker 3:

Over medium, baby. Next time it happens, if you have a thermometer, take the temperature. You'll notice that it is significantly hotter than the rest of your body.

00:05:38 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 2:

Wait a second, you can take a thermometer and put it on your knees?

00:05:42 - 00:05:46 | Speaker 3:

Yes, I have one of the digital ones. Oh, you fancy.

00:05:47 - 00:05:57 | Speaker 2:

That's wild. Wait, the digital thermometer, I always just put it on my forehead. But the digital thermometer, if you do it to your knees, it will show differently than your forehead, do you think?

00:05:58 - 00:06:02 | Speaker 3:

Yep. When this happens with me, they're about 10 degrees hotter than the rest of my body.

00:06:03 - 00:06:05 | Speaker 2:

Wow. You got hot knees. How great is that?

00:06:06 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 3:

I know. That's part of me.

00:06:08 - 00:06:09 | Speaker 2:

I mean, that's good.

00:06:10 - 00:06:13 | Speaker 4:

Megan's got hot knees and hot toes, according to our contest we're doing on the internet.

00:06:13 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, we got to talk about that. So we got to discuss this. What happened? So we're doing this super toe contest, which, by the way, you can enter, go to Facebook, go to instagram but make sure if you do have an entry that you specifically have to put it in your story on instagram and tag us at mojo in the morning so you can be part of this our mojo super toe so kp uh and i think that you decided like the the brackets right yeah so i kind of messed

00:06:44 - 00:07:02 | Speaker 5:

up the brackets not gonna lie because i don't know anything sports this is my first time Although the toe contest isn't really a sport Everything is sport It is a competition I mean obviously because I was looking at these votes And Megan you got some toe fans These people love you

00:07:02 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 3:

Megan this is your dream come true You could legit make some money on only fans

00:07:06 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 2:

Check this out real quick They did this for a full day You did it for a full day And you had the brackets where people were going up against each other

00:07:15 - 00:07:17 | Speaker 5:

Had Megan up against Mike

00:07:17 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 2:

Megan against Mike, Shannon against UKP, and Spike and I against each other.

00:07:22 - 00:07:36 | Speaker 5:

Let me tell you how close these numbers were. So we're going to start with Mojo and Spike. You guys were, let me see here, 1,301 votes for Mojo's toe, and then 820 for Spike. So Spike, a little bit of a load of crap.

00:07:36 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 4:

I mean, this is just a popularity contest. His name's on the show. There's no way. Listen, I don't have pretty toes, but his literally had toe fungus and lint and frog.

00:07:46 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 2:

I have a very pretty toe It was freshly cut

00:07:50 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 4:

There was lint on there That was from my sock

00:07:52 - 00:07:54 | Speaker 2:

That was my sock

00:07:54 - 00:07:56 | Speaker 4:

I'm sorry

00:07:56 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 2:

I don't filter my pictures People want onashirral when it comes to toes Okay

00:08:01 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 5:

Next, Shannon and me We were actually We were pretty close So Shannon was 1,354 votes And mine was 1,160 Wow, that's very good. We were literally going toe-to-toe.

00:08:18 - 00:08:23 | Speaker 1:

00:08:23 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 2:

Man, oh, man.

00:08:25 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 4:

00:08:28 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 2:

Well, that doesn't work for Shannon. That's not a good job for you.

00:08:31 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 5:

00:08:43 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 4:

00:08:46 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 5:

Mike am better than everyone. How did Mike do? Mike got a lot too. Mike got 440. What? Oh, Mike. Oh, Mike.

00:08:56 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 4:

Mike, to be fair, something's up with your toe. You got to talk about going to the doctor. You should go get that checked out.

00:09:02 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 2:

It looks like a sad Muppet.

00:09:04 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 5:

Or it looks like you bite your toenails. I don't even know what it looks like. It looks like one of those little golf tees. You know what I'm talking about? What is it called? You put the ground. You tee off of it.

00:09:18 - 00:09:25 | Speaker 2:

Is that really like a, oh, it does kind of look like a tee. It does look like a tee. Mike, can I use that next time I go golfing? Absolutely.

00:09:25 - 00:09:35 | Speaker 5:

400, are you sure? I'm certain. I can send a screenshot. I want you to know, my dad just texted me, proud moment for any father. My daughter is a foot prostitute. Oh, my God.
