Modo Casino. America's social casino. All right, Mojo on the morning show. Hey, Mike, how is Adam doing, the 5 at 655 guy? that uh he's working for a company yeah he's now working in west michigan i got a message from him

00:02:00 - 00:02:34 | Speaker 6:

that he interviewed with dave and got a job yeah so he hasn't started yet but he got the uh producer role for for wood news here in west michigan which is awesome because him and i uh go back a little bit i mean i don't know him know him but i know him through the show and we we've talked a million hardcore mojo in the morning listener yeah yeah yeah we've he's dm'd me um before he was on five at 655 and he's like man i'm really trying to get into radio this is what i've done do you have any tips and i would just chat with him about radio stuff and i'd give him a cool guy yeah he's a

00:02:34 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 5:

stay-at-home dad um who lives in kalamazoo and actually wants to be on radio so bad he paid for himself to go to a radio convention in chicago called morning show boot camp to meet radio people That's right, yeah. And then spurred it on that he wanted to come work for our show. We didn't have any openings here. He was willing to drive from Kalamazoo to Detroit every day to work for us.

00:02:57 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:02:57 - 00:03:05 | Speaker 5:

And then said, hey, well, maybe we can find him something in Grand Rapids. And he ended up the right position, opened up, and now he's on wood.

00:03:06 - 00:03:15 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, well, yeah, he will be here in, I think, a week or so. Yeah, yeah. It's cool, because him and I, like, you ever meet somebody and you just instantly vibe with them? Yeah, I love that.

00:03:15 - 00:03:21 | Speaker 4:

He was kind of like you He hustled He didn't take no for an answer He's like, I'm going to make this happen

00:03:21 - 00:03:41 | Speaker 5:

And he talks a lot You can't get him off the phone He's like you, Mike You two guys are going to By the way You two guys are never going to stop You're going to be in the hallways Bumping into each other, talking nonstop We're never going to get work done It will never happen

00:03:41 - 00:03:53 | Speaker 6:

It's going to be awesome because there are very few people in a lot of buildings, but in West Michigan, there are very few people in the building right now. So it'll be nice to have another person here to chat with, and he's got kids, so we can talk about a lot of stuff.

00:03:53 - 00:03:54 | Speaker 2:

He's the nicest guy.

00:03:55 - 00:04:37 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. My only concern is I know him through DMs and stuff. I don't personally know his character. You know what I mean? I don't know who he is outside of just chatting with him back and forth. So when they asked me, hey, do you know this guy? I was like, yeah, yeah. You know, he's a big Mojo in the Morning fan. He seems like a really nice guy. I chat with him all the time about radio stuff. He's very into it. But I specified and said, I don't know him outside of that. My concern is if he screws up, if he messes this up, and he does something just terrible, I don't know what he would do. I'm sure he's not going to. But if he does, you know that's coming back to me. That's coming back to Mike's suggestion. This is Mike's guy. So anytime he messes it up, oh, that's Mike's guy.

00:04:38 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 5:

You know what this is like? This is like co-signing for someone, and they don't pay the bill, and you get stuck with it. Has anybody ever had that happen to them? Has anybody ever recommended a friend for a position or job at their work, and the friend spit on them by doing such a horrible job? You'll have to call us up, 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548. This can happen in just about a minute.

00:05:00 - 00:05:06 | Speaker 3:

anything it can happen in jobs it can happen in you know apartment leases uh i just got a text

00:05:06 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 5:

yesterday dates setting somebody up on a date i have had that backfire i as much as i love setting people up i i don't know it's nerve-wracking well the text i got yesterday was from an old radio

00:05:17 - 00:06:03 | Speaker 1:

friend that i worked with at the last radio station so we're going back 24 years now till since i worked with him and he hasn't been in radio in years he's done a lot of other things But he's like, hey, I know we only talk like once a year, but could I use you as a reference? You are you are a big and then curse word American major market radio dude. It would help me get this job. So I'm like, of course. But I mean, geez, it's been so long. Are they really going to go back to a reference that's so far ago, like back to our very earliest radio job? And he's like, oh, well, if they ask, I worked with you way more recently, like last year. It's like, oh, now I'm uncomfortable. I don't know. Can I give a reference? And they're going to ask, well, when did you work with them? Am I supposed to say last year? And then they're going to start asking questions. And I don't know anything about it's been 24 years.

00:06:03 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 3:

It's funny. I've had reference or I've had more people call for references now in the last year than in past. Before it used to be, they just hire you and then you'd never get a phone call. Somebody would say, hey, you might get a call from somebody. But this past year, I've had so many of them. But my favorite, you know, the Ellen one where Ellen was the company she's going to work for, they asked me questions that at one point it felt like the survey that you get from the car company when you buy a car. Yeah. And I was like, at one point I said to them, I go, listen, I feel like I have done more work for Ellen to get work than I have ever done for me. This is unbelievable, the questions they asked. But you know what? That's a great company. It's a big company that works with some major clients. What's up, Jade?

00:06:53 - 00:06:55 | Speaker 5:

Morning, Mojo. How are you guys?

00:06:55 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 3:

Good. What's going on? We're talking about Mike giving Adam a reference, and we're wondering, God forbid, he screws things up. Does it come back on Mike?

00:07:07 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 5:

Oh, I will never give a reference ever again.

00:07:10 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 3:

Uh-oh. Why? What happened?

00:07:12 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 5:

When I was 16, I got one of my good friends a job, just like a local pizza joint here in Macomb. And I think maybe a month in, she started dating a manager who was way too old. Her mom called one day while I was at work, and she had ran away from home with our manager.

00:07:31 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my gosh. Wow.

00:07:35 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 5:

I will never put back somebody for a job ever again.

00:07:40 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 1:

Oh, my gosh. I mean, you could have never seen that coming.

00:07:43 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 5:

No, I mean, it was something from a movie.

00:07:45 - 00:07:59 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. You know what, though? It actually did kind of work out. If you think about it It's a love story Britney what happened to you When you gave somebody a reference Britt

00:07:59 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 5:

Brittany

00:08:01 - 00:08:03 | Speaker 3:

Oh lost her

00:08:03 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 5:

Well no

00:08:06 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 3:

I'm going to go to you next What's going on Patricia

00:08:08 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 5:

Yeah so my brother got a job From my husband And so then he got fired Because he stole somebody's iPhone Out of their locker

00:08:16 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 3:

Wow So he's a thief

00:08:19 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 5:

He got caught on camera unfortunately But it did not look poorly on my husband Fortunately

00:08:24 - 00:08:30 | Speaker 3:

That's the worst when you have family members That you give references to and they turn out to screw you You know

00:08:30 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 1:

I mean all you can say is

00:08:32 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 5:

Never again He would never refer to somebody again

00:08:35 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 1:

He didn't steal anything when he was here I don't know

00:08:38 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 3:

Hold on one sec Do I have to dial 9 on this line or just dial out

00:08:42 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 1:

Not on the bottom one Okay

00:08:44 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 3:

i'm like the slowest dialer ever on this thing i really it never works though and i wish that

00:08:55 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 2:

the numbers were closer to my hand i have to reach so far for the numbers you should see me doing phone scams with my little arms you probably have to like i have an assistant come in to dial

00:09:06 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 3:

to dial the thing hold on i'm gonna see i know he'd be thrilled if we called to congratulate him i was gonna call adam and uh your call has been he bumped us now mr is he working now mr

00:09:18 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 4:

00:09:34 - 00:09:39 | Speaker 3:

00:09:39 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 2:

welcome to welcome to the radio business buddy we're so excited for you you've made a terrible

00:09:49 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 3:

mistake yeah and in the the coolest thing about you is this is like a late in life career i mean not that you're you're old what what are you 30 something

00:10:00 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 6:

then 34 34 years old and he's choosing to go into radio which what was the career that you did before

00:10:05 - 00:10:16 | Speaker 8:

this i oh man i've done a bunch of things i was a recruiter for western michigan trying to get kids to go to college there and then i was a church musician and tech guy for a while

00:10:16 - 00:10:26 | Speaker 6:

and so i've kind of been all over the place boy you've gone like down the rungs of things right now you have now just gone to hell i just want you to know that but hey i mean if i learned

00:10:26 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 8:

anything at morning show boot camp my liver is not prepared yeah we didn't even we didn't even

00:10:31 - 00:10:49 | Speaker 10:

mention that he actually paid very expensive rate to go to like a radio convention to learn more about the business we all say nice things about you because we meet a lot of people that want to get a ready get into radio and we're like yeah okay cool good luck but you're actually we've all had private conversation with you we would like you but now we're nervous if you mess up our names

00:10:49 - 00:11:05 | Speaker 8:

are going to be on yeah so basically don't yeah i know i'm low-key terrified of that um actually you talk about the high rate i actually kind of pulled something so my wife works at a college now and i enrolled in a class for free so i could get the student rate for boot camp oh that's so

00:11:05 - 00:11:10 | Speaker 10:

cool wait that's smart that's smart that shows you can work the angles and figure out the problem

00:11:10 - 00:11:36 | Speaker 6:

that's good adam here's the deal because i know we all kind of gave you good marks with uh dave and everybody there dave and tim and stuff this is what you got to do though if you screw up on you're way out if you get fired say mike recommended we're gonna blame mike for the whole thing okay for sure yeah i'll do that and there's a time limit on when you two talkative dads can you can't talk forever okay can't keep each other at the bathroom all right well i told

00:11:36 - 00:11:40 | Speaker 8:

i told mike when he was getting evicted from his office that if they give me one we could share

00:11:40 - 00:11:56 | Speaker 10:

oh my gosh can you imagine they're kicking mike out of the office he's had for like a decade and And if they actually gave it to the new guy, I will, I will squat on your desk and leave a grumpy.

00:11:59 - 00:12:04 | Speaker 6:

Congratulations to you, man. Thank you guys so much. We're so happy for you and good luck to

00:12:04 - 00:12:26 | Speaker 8:

you. Best of luck on everything. Okay. Thanks a ton. Thank you guys for everything. You're awesome. And honestly, seriously, like my only thing I could say for people is if there's something you want to do go after it like like i'm shocked i still wake up every day thinking it's not going to be real and it's apparently going to be soon once hr figures stuff out what about me wanting

00:12:26 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 6:

to be a bodybuilder do you think that there's any uh hope i mean you got that heart thing that now he's funny guy now he's you notice that about him now he's a mr radio guy before he We've never done that before, so.

00:12:41 - 00:12:42 | Speaker 9:
