It's more of the technical side of things. We do talk about journalism in the sense of how to run a broadcast news show. We do that. We focus on that at the beginning of the year, and then we move more into film and teaching film or uh single camera productions now are all of the kids who are in the studio right now going to pass your class yes okay as of right now yes okay as of right now they could still screw it up

we still have a month left okay do they have a final project or something that they have to do

yeah so um they have uh their final project is going to be and i haven't completely told them yet okay do you want to tell them right now on the radio yeah sure uh so you guys are going to have to make a demo reel for as part of your final exam so uh this way you're able to take that demo reel out and if you want to get a job in the field you already have something that's ready for you to take to show people who can potentially get some jobs can you help me make

but i am a professional i i i kind of know a few things or two if you ever need you know a substitute teacher one afternoon maybe you need to go to a doctor's appointment or just go home and have a beer i can come in and fill in for you sometime well i can't confirm that last part but

got some nice bright faces here you guys are going to be hanging out with us in our building for a while you got a chance to actually meet uh some of the departments of the the you know broadcast What broadcasting is more than just this, guys, believe it or not. I never thought this. I went to a radio station one time way back when, and I thought a radio station was just the playing music and talking in the microphone and stuff like that. And they brought me in for a tour. They said, we're going to give you a tour of the radio station. And I never saw the studio. All I saw were the business offices. I was like, I thought it was like in a dental office.

Yeah. What is this all about? That was, like, I remember I signed up to do, like, a job shadow or something or, like, a career day, and we went to Monroe Cablevision living downriver. I thought, oh, yeah, I'm going to see, like, the TV studios. No, it was, like, the shack in the middle of a field where all the wires and the tower was. And I was, like, this is not what I signed up. It was one dude sitting in there by himself.

That would be kind of creepy, wouldn't it, to show up and it's one dude in a shack?

with a bunch of wires yeah i'd be thinking myself really is what it was i would be thinking myself okay something's going on here um well you guys are going to see the ins and outs of what we do here at iheart and we appreciate you guys for coming in and hope that you guys learn a little bit of something uh any of you guys truly want to get into this business or do you want to do or do entertainment anything like that any of you guys any of you guys take this because it was an

easy class i have my hand up my iran is it an easy class i would say it's easy if you enjoy it if not then it's it can be a bit of a slog you know can i tell you something though that's any

class that's fair and that's honestly why like honestly this is why i went into to do what we're doing here right now because we had a class in high school and it was coach o'malley who was our basketball coach marist high school he taught the class and i remember taking it thinking this is something i wanted to do and it was a hard class because we studied like the history of you know broadcasting and laws and rules and all the rest of this stuff and i really got into it after i realized okay there's more to it than just you know trying to talk over a 15 second intro or something like that so yeah and there are some kids that uh that

really do take it and run with it and otherwise i try to make sure that just they have some job skill training so that they still have something to take away even if they decide not to pursue this as a career. And also an understanding of how media is produced, whether it's radio, TV, podcasting, whatever.
