Oh, that's a new term for an old situation. Revenge porn.

Revenge porn, exactly. But isn't this illegal? Revenge porn not necessarily was asked for money, right? Wasn't it always just they did it just to be a-holes?

It depends. So how are people getting away with this, though?

So in many cases, it's because nobody is saying anything. They're not speaking up. And in the case of the person that we know, our friends of ours kid, they actually said something to their their parent about it. So they they talked about it. And in a lot of cases, this is what ends up happening. A kid who goes to maybe a private Catholic or Christian school sends a dong pic to to somebody or they send nudes in a mirror to somebody. and then they know that they will become the shame of their family if this comes out. Their family comes from a little bit of money, and then they say to them, hey, either you're going to pay up or I'm going to put out this picture to everybody. I'd love to know if any of our listeners have ever had that happen to them, if they would be willing to talk. I felt like it was too close and too soon to ask them to talk on the radio about this. But maybe anonymously somebody will actually talk. The person wanted like $10,000 or something like that for the picture to be completely destroyed and not sent out to anybody.

At that point, I would just let it go. I mean, if somebody wants to see it that bad, wants to see a picture of my dog that bad, go for it. I mean, it's not worth the $10,000. But what if you're a teenage kid?

Or what if that is one of your kids? You're not going to, that's not going to be your answer. At that point, isn't that child pornography?

Well, in this case, this kid is over 20, he's over 18, so he's 20 years old. I mean, I will say this, that, you know, Megan's right. This is definitely, you know, what revenge.

porn was all about but now the extortion part of it gets a little bit more dirty you know the extortion part of of telling uh you if you don't do anything i'm i'm uh gonna say something to your

parents or or i'm gonna put then there's a quote-unquote paper trail or a tech trail do you know what i mean all you have to do is hand that over and that's that you have a case right there yeah so i don't know why people or how people think they're gonna get away with that yeah i

don't you know what like that's stupid honestly honestly the worst part about this whole thing

if you know what though sorry to interrupt you as i'm saying that out loud they probably think they're going to get away with it because let's say it was luke i'm using luke because i'm looking right at him let's say it was luke luke is not going to want to come to you and say dad correct i sent this picture to somebody and now i need twenty thousand dollars or else it's going to make its way around the internet right so that's what they're banking on well one of the other

problems too that comes with this is that these kids end up being so scared about what's going on and fearful and in a lot of cases some of these kids actually end up committing suicide and you hear these stories where that happens and a kid you know is too worried to bring up to their parent that you know they sent nudes and they're too embarrassed about the fact that they sent nudes that they uh they worry that there's potentially you know going to be shame and they They end up taking their own lives. 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548. um i you know i didn't live uh where you had cameras on phones like we had phones but we didn't you know we didn't have the camera phones and i don't know man i well first off i'd never i don't even take i wouldn't take a picture of myself right now where i'm you know showing off this beautiful body of mine you know like i wouldn't want to do that i think there's a lot of pressure though but the people like i just can't believe how frequent people just send or take naked pictures and send it to people you're so trusting it's not even that it's a lot of

pressure as a young girl it is so much i remember because you're asked to take the pictures and then if you don't do it the things that are said about you in school and the way that you're treated by people i i was definitely pressured into giving um a photo when i was in high school like a nude And I literally, it was like the worst experience ever because it was just a group of guys essentially harassing me over and over again. Are you serious?

So who did you, who asked you for and who did you send it to? A guy. Like specifically, a guy that you were in a relationship with or had a crush on or what was the scenario? I wanted him to be interested in me. Okay. And then he shared it with other people. Because he knew. Because guys are the worst. Okay, so now if that happens, that is child pornography. Correct.

I mean, that is happening right now in so many schools. I feel like my age group was the first one that grew up with, like, AOL Instant Messenger in our homes that our parents weren't monitoring. We were the first ones that really grew up with MySpace that our parents, like, weren't monitoring. Didn't know anything about it. And we had the first camera phones. Again, our parents didn't, and I don't want to blame our parents. They genuinely didn't know the wild, wild west we were growing up in. And I'm so grateful that our generation is now parents and knows what happened to us. And everything's evolving and changing, so I don't even think we're up to date on everything, but at least we have a base knowledge that our parents didn't to know to monitor.

No, you're absolutely right. I remember a time in high school where there was a young lady who was dating an older guy in the school, and it was one of those situations where news were passed around, and that thing spreaded like COVID. Like, it was everywhere in the school. Everybody saw it. She was mortified. She went to the prince. It was a, as it should have been, it was a big thing.

The thing that I don't know is how is it that these kids, because some kids actually will pay the money. So they'll actually fall for the extortion and pay it. How do they get the money? Like, how do they get the money their parents don't realize? Like, to ask a kid in the case like the people that we know, and to ask for, like, $10,000, like, where's this kid getting $10,000 to pay them?

Now, if they're asking for $500, I could see where, you know, a kid has a job, and they're like, okay, okay, you know.

How do you know, too, after you've paid the money, like, they don't have 800 copies of it? Right, you don't. Well, especially in this digital age. Right. Lydia's trying to call a bunch of these people that are texting in right now And read just a couple of the text messages And maybe we can get them to come on and talk to us If you text or if you called We want to talk to you

So we're calling you right now. So pick up the phone, especially the person that said that they were exposed. 616 says extortion isn't that cut and dry. Coming from a parent that had a child send a booby pic, I had to drop the case. Where did that go? It moved right here. I had to drop the case because my daughter could have gotten charged as well for distribution of child porn, even though it was herself. How does that happen?

You can't even protect your kids.

Because she distributed the picture. She took it and sent it. So that's considered distribution. Is that right? What was that? She took the picture and she sent it. So at that point, she's the distributor? Is that what you're saying? Yes.

And again, how old was your daughter when this happened? 15. Yeah. So anybody who's listening that's around that age know that that's a very real scenario for you.

So it happened via Snapchat, and this kid was actually in a different state. He did threaten as well. So if the parents don't give consent either to either question or take his phone or even look into it, then you don't have a case either. so his parents weren't giving any consent they could question but they can't do it without his parent or parent so they wouldn't comply either and then they could turn around and then say well we're going to trust press charges on her wow and lisa correct me if i'm wrong once it

crosses state lines like you said this was out of state doesn't it become a federal thing

they didn't say it was then federal they were working with um the police department in the other state but they weren't very cooperative either so um thank you for the call thanks for

you for the call um here we are in a very like serious moment we're trying to actually have like our moment of seriousness today um listen to some of these other by the way that case where i was talking about the committing suicide remember that was a west michigan uh football player kid was like a pride of his you know school everything committed suicide because he was sex stored a couple of other texters that are coming in here we're also trying to call you too so pick up your phone um i will never forget when my high school sweetheart at 15 traded nudes to a classmate for a stack. Yes, because I was in class with them. They knew who his girlfriend was.

And how long did this go on before he got exposed for getting money for his girlfriend's nudes?

I don't even know. It was probably a little while.

I mean, that's right there. Nowadays, obviously, you could bring that person up on charges for doing something like that. Back when it happened to you, which I don't even know what year that was, you just had your brother beat his ass.
