This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:00:37 - 00:01:22 | Speaker 1:

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, people in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be that you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.

Back to Mojo in the morning. Mojo in the morning. Yesterday, you were in such a fun mood. Actually, to be honest with you, you were in a normal mood. I didn't notice anything different.

00:02:13 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 6:

That makes me happy that you didn't because I felt so off. So I had a doctor's appointment for a little procedure yesterday after the show, and it was with Dr. Warner. And so his staff had said, you know, this is not the most comfortable thing to go through. So you might want to take like a Valium or something pretty strong just so you can you're able to get through, you know, the procedure. I don't love, I don't think I've ever taken a Valium in my whole life. I'm just not into taking like, I don't know that to me, that's like hardcore. I only did it once for LASIK. Yeah. So I was like, you know what? I even said to them, I'm like, I'm just going to take, I'll take a Xanax and at least that'll relax me. And hopefully I won't panic when I get in there. So my appointment was for noon. and so I thought okay like I I don't take Xanax on a on a regular basis I do have pretty bad anxiety but if I ever need to take a Xanax I take I take a pill daily take Zoloft daily for my anxiety full disclosure but if I ever need to take a Xanax I'll like bite it in half so that's all I've ever taken right well yesterday and Megan you saw me do this I was like bottoms up I'm gonna take a full one because I'm scared of what's about to happen to me so I took it around nine 45. Like right after the 9.30. Right around this time. Yesterday. And I wanted to make sure it had kicked in and it was all good by my appointment time. I was a freaking hot mess for the last half hour of the show. Were you really? I felt like I was gonna melt into my chair. I was so overly conscious about slurring my words. I'm on drugs! I looked at Megan and I was like help me. You looked over at me at one point and just mouthed oh no. and I could see in your eyes you were going. I was about to fall over like my eyelids were so heavy I really timed it out poorly and by the time my appointment rolled around I looked at Dr. Warner I was like I think it wore off I just did not plan this out well at all but

00:04:20 - 00:04:25 | Speaker 5:

yeah. Has that ever happened to any of our listeners where you took a you took a zany

00:04:25 - 00:04:33 | Speaker 6:

or anything and just it really affected you but like wrong time wrong time and place.

00:04:33 - 00:04:38 | Speaker 5:

I feel like, what was the movie? Was it Bridesmaids or whatever? Where she, remember, wasn't it Bridesmaids where she...

00:04:38 - 00:04:39 | Speaker 6:

On the plane.

00:04:40 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 5:

She actually...

00:04:41 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 6:

There's a small colonial woman on the wing! Yeah. Help me.

00:04:44 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:04:45 - 00:04:49 | Speaker 6:

Ready to party!

00:04:50 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 5:

00:05:13 - 00:05:39 | Speaker 2:

Okay, so I remember this. That's so funny that you said that because I remember when my grandma Grace, God rest her soul, accidentally took a sleeping pill instead of her heart medication. and we were going to like a school function for my little sister and she was sitting on the edge of this fountain in the lobby of the place where this school function was and she started falling backwards into the fountain because she didn't realize she was falling asleep.

00:05:39 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 1:

She had taken a sleeping pill instead of her heart pill and all of these people had to rush over and save her before she fell backwards into the fountain, but she was falling asleep.

00:05:48 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 3:

Honestly, that would have been funny to watch.

00:05:51 - 00:05:52 | Speaker 1:

Oh my God.

00:05:52 - 00:05:58 | Speaker 3:

00:06:10 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 4:

Hey, so first things first, long time listener, first time caller. Yes. Matisse, silver phone. It's the first time I've actually been able to get through. I try to get through every day, guys. I listen to you guys. it oh we love you for listening just to let you guys know you guys do awesome jobs like i cannot go and start my morning without you guys but just to make this quick uh a couple years ago well actually more than a couple it was back in 2014 i actually had a little bit of an anxiety issue as well and my doctor prescribed me alloprozam i think it's called and it's basically the you It's the generic for Xanax. Yeah, like the generic for Xanax. Does it come with a wand? I did. I actually worked at a call center, and I had very, very high anxiety from teaching in front of a class of 60 students, teaching them how to take calls and doing examples and stuff like that. So I took a Xanax one day before my class. And when I tell you, I went in there on a Tuesday, and I went back in there, and they told me that you're not supposed to be here. And I'm like, what do you mean? A whole day had went by. I don't remember anything from the day. Oh, no. I swear I never took another one. I told my doctor, hey, I cannot take this anymore. I literally skipped a whole day. I went in the office. They're like, what are you doing here? I was like, I'm here for class. He's like, no, you did that yesterday. I'm like, I did?

00:07:45 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 3:

That's awesome. That is a great one. Jessica, hi. What happened to you, Jessica?

00:07:52 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 5:

Well, it was about this time quite a few years ago. I won't say how many and date myself, but I was having a surgery and I was on some medication. We were at my son's state finals for wrestling, and I didn't know that you couldn't drink with the medication because I was younger back then. And I took the medication. They did a break, and we had a few drinks in the bar there. I think it was Ford Field or Wingsfield. You don't remember. Yeah, yeah. And I ended up a blubbering idiot the rest of the day. Anything anybody said to me, I cried. I cried, and I cried, and I cried. And by the end of the tournament, I swear they were tearing me out of there. Don't cry.

00:08:39 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 3:

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:12:57 - 00:13:42 | Speaker 2:

Allen Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. and I've already got a job shadow before and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.
