All right, it is Mojo in the Morning Show. This is going to be a topic for any parent that missed something big in their life. and it could be anything maybe it's as big as the birth of your child but it could be something that maybe like happened to shannon this weekend shannon almost became the worst mom ever

i i still kind of feel like the worst mom ever even though i i was slightly saved but so uh lucy and smith had excuse me swim meets all day saturday and sunday they're competitive swimmers by the way they both kicked butt and qualified for states this weekend so it was

Really, really, really super exciting.

So my entire day, starting at 8.30 in the morning on Saturday, was spent at Trenton High School. Go Trojans. Sitting my butt in the bleachers, cheering for my children. And by like 3 o'clock, my butt cheeks were numb. And I was hungry and very zoned out because I always bring stuff to do. Like I brought my iPad. I brought a really great book that I had been reading. And so when they weren't actually competing, I was reading this book. It's called Funny Story, by the way. If you're a reader, go get it. It's phenomenal. But so I'm sitting there reading and I know when the kids are supposed to get in the pool and compete because there's like a huge board and it says, you know, the event that they're on and the heat that they're on within that event. So I have everything written down. I knew Lucy was coming up at some point, but I had a while. So I settle in and I am like into this book and it gets to the point, spoiler alert, if you want to read this book and you haven't in it, because I know it's a popular one right now. Let me suggest a book and then spoil it. It gets to a point in the book where the two main characters are finally admitting that they are in love with each other and they're hooking up and it was like such a good steamy part of the book and i'm so into it and i look like i glance up to check the scoreboard to see what event they're on and i see lucy's name with a time and a place number oh no as i'm reading this smut as my grandmother used to call it i am like holy crap i missed her like i had been waiting for this particular race and i'm like oh my god oh my god in my head i think i said every swear

word ever and again and i'm like i am literally the worst mom you're reading a like is it like

it's not even like a 50 shades of gray type of book but it was this part in the book we're like

that's happening before you finish your story that was weird that you that you bring this up Because I read over the weekend somewhere where these novels that our grandparents used to read, like even not even our parents read them, our grandparents read them or great grandparents read them, are like back now. Yeah.

Oh, this is a brand new book.

Like everybody's everybody's reading these these like these old or like books like that, where the guy that looks on there looks like that guy Fabio or whatever, you know, this is a new book.

This is an old book.

Right, yeah, but they're making new books. Yeah, I love a good Enemies to Lovers. Oh, my God, I look up, I'm like, oh, my God, I missed her. I felt terrible, and then I realized what was happening, like, this all happened in a split second, that though the place and the time were from the previous swimmer in her lane, and as I make this realization, I see her jump into the pool, and I'm like, thank you, Jesus, and truly, she crushed it and qualified, so I'm so happy I didn't miss it, but I'm like, could you imagine if I walked out of here, I've been sitting here all day and i missed it because i'm reading this damn book oh my god but that's the worst by the

way that that is so bad and as a parent there's nothing worse because then she'll go didn't you

think i did great and you then you just lie oh yeah you gotta lie yeah you cannot tell the truth

on that one i can't tell you how many times this has happened probably to some parent out there where your kid did something that was amazing and you were not you were looking at your phone we do it all the time we yell at them for not being present and we're not the ones that are are present i actually uh have a story not about me because i would never make myself look like a bad dad um but uh i remember uh my good friend jamie who used to god rest his soul jamie was the morning uh guy up on 97.1 and he died tragically of colon cancer and christy his beautiful wife worked here uh chrissy mcdonald worked uh at channel uh four just recently i think she just left channel four locally our kids played baseball against each other and i remember jamie's telling me he's like yeah i'm leaving i'm gonna go right now i go where are you going your kids are playing a game like we're watching a game and he goes i got a tennis match i'm going to and i and i were like you're going to play tennis while your kid's playing a game and he's like yeah you know my kid plays a lot of games so the whole deal the whole deal you know he's like i gave him so much crap on the radio because his kid got up the next time up the bat and his son hit a towering home run the center field so i gave him so much crap over that whole deal and then years later obviously you know jamie passed and i thought i always thought god i felt guilty but our relationship was one where we gave each other so much but that is like though that's happened i have had to go potty numerous times and i'm like what spot in the lineup is luke you You know what I mean? Like you leave and you go to.

Yeah, I know. And this was her big moment too.

I would have felt awful. Lydia brought up something funny. You said your mom never caught one of your big moments when you were growing up.

Yeah. So I was playing softball and I hit my first home run and I looked up and my mom wasn't there. And I'm like, what the hell? Like, where were you? And she was like, I was getting a hot dog. Love science.

Don't blame her. Blame the concession stand for taking a lot of time. oh my god that's terrible i know oh that's real bad but she didn't know it right like

no she still doesn't know it i'm like should i tell her like i mean i don't know she'd even care at this point anymore no no do not does it ever come to a point where you want to show that

your dad loves you more than he loves your sister and say to her let me tell you what happened

for years when i was a kid she used to be like that's my daddy and i would like just fall my eyes out so i mean i could definitely get her back with that one for sure that is hysterical

Hi. So I decided to skip one of my son's tournaments. He plays baseball. Because I thought getting my hair done that weekend was more important. And I missed his grand slam.

Well, the thing is, is my sister works at a salon and does it. So I probably could have picked any other weekend.

Why?

I had total mom guilt. It was awful.

I've missed so much crap, too, for work and things like that. We used to travel to go to Atlanta all the time to a big party for Norm. And there are so many times I, like, missed dances, stupid stuff. Like, I look back on the things that I missed and the stuff that I missed them for. And, I mean, yours, obviously, is really bad, Shannon. I mean.

A hair appointment? I mean, come on. Mine, at least, I was hanging out watching, what was that stripper's name that was down in Atlanta that we saw?

Oh, my God. Blondie. Is it Betty?

Blondie.

Yeah.

Blondie, the stripper that used to smash beer cans in between her ta-tas. I could do that. You can. You should actually start that hair. She was famous there. Lil Wayne and Tyga and all those guys used to go see her all the time in Atlanta.

They used to rap about her. Yeah. Stop.

Hey, good morning. So my story is when I was in middle school, I had gotten, like, a solo recital, and neither of my parents showed up, but my friend's mom came to support me, and she totally screamed in front of the entire school when I went up in front of our room. Aww.

That is so sweet. That's actually kind of nice, though, that they did that.

Yeah, it was very nice.

Yeah. I remember one time. Rose, have you been listening to the show for a while?

Not too long, actually. I haven't listened to Michigan very long. I'd say I just started listening this year, but I call on pretty often.

So we used to do these parties all the time, these called the pajama parties. And we haven't done a pajama party probably in the last two or three years. Hopefully it'll come back. I don't know why. We just changed up. We do rooftop parties and things like that. I missed one of Jacob's big events for a pajama party. And the worst is I'm on stage at the pajama party looking like I'm Hugh Hefner in, like, these silky pajamas. And Chelsea is sending me pictures of Jacob up on stage acting in some kind of a play.

I was to murder him. I still freaking throw it in his face. I'm like, yeah, that's the birth of our daughter for some Taco Bell. He'll never let that one down, ever.

Is there also something to the fact that you can't eat for like 72 hours? Because you really can't have much, can you, when you're doing this?

Oh, no, it was coming out both ends for 72 hours. It was very bad. It was very, very bad. He didn't get brownie points for that one.

That's hysterical. Elizabeth, what's up? Your mom almost missed you doing something cool?

So I was in high school and I was running track and it's the first time I ever won first place in one of my heats, but she missed it because she was on the phone with my now brother-in-law who was asking for my sister's hand in marriage. I mean, that's an important moment.

I'm not a blamer for that one. If it helps, I'm the middle child.
