Can superstars even exist the way they used to?

00:00:52 - 00:01:06 | Speaker 6:

2016 was sort of that last era of monoculture where we still consumed things in community. Everybody wanted to be Beyonce at that point. I don't think we'll ever see another Rihanna.

00:01:06 - 00:01:13 | Speaker 8:

What does it mean to be Black and eat in America? You will never make me feel bad for being a Black girl, for being a Black American girl, ever.

00:01:13 - 00:01:24 | Speaker 7:

From music to food to the conversations shaping Black culture right now, Therapy for Black Girls is bringing it all to the mic. Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

It just came out. Jeremy, what did you just do? You just set yourself up for failure. I've never heard you tell this story. I've never told this story. This must have been tucked deep, deep in the Jeremy Lin file.

00:01:34 - 00:01:55 | Speaker 9:

My name is MC Jin. I'm excited to tell you about Laugh But Not Lease. I'll be chatting with guests from all walks of life about the power of humor when it comes to facing difficult times. 00:01:56 - 00:02:17 | Speaker 3:

All right. Shannon, I saw you out yesterday. You were at Lucido Fine Jewelry, and you're getting ready for the big holiday push that they've got going on, a new promotion. On your social media, you were posting with a bunch of jewelry. I understand that you had a very embarrassing moment that happened that I not necessarily think was an accident.

00:02:17 - 00:03:10 | Speaker 4:

Okay. So it is no secret that I love Lucido Fine Jewelry. Fran and Joe and Vince and the entire team over there, they're incredible. And every year I get to do their holiday gift guide and giveaways and stuff for them. And this year we're changing it up. We're doing something a little bit different. But yesterday afternoon, I spent a couple of hours there taping content and videos and all of that good stuff for this year's holiday promotion. And I love, it's so much fun and it's so much fun, partly because Megan, I get to wear all of the very expensive jewelry that I will never in my lifetime, unless I win the lottery, be able to afford. Now, mind you, Lucido has a lot, a ton of just everyday, very, very affordable jewelry. Yes. But just, you know, because I, because I can, I get, I want to put on like the, the stuff that I will never own. So that's what I did.

00:03:10 - 00:03:20 | Speaker 5:

I have a similar relationship with Jay Foster Jewelers, and I love the guys down there. They always want me to put a ring on. I'm like, no, what if I can't get it off? I'm not putting that ring on my finger. I totally get it.

00:03:21 - 00:03:26 | Speaker 3:

Why would you not put it on if you can't get it off? That would be your opportunity to own it.

00:03:26 - 00:04:08 | Speaker 4:

Is that what I tell the boys? They'd be putting oil on your finger and getting that sucker off. So yesterday, in between the different videos, they were constantly changing my earrings and changing my bracelets and changing my necklace, which I loved. It was so fun. And as when it came time for me to go home, you guys, yesterday was a very long day. And by that point in the day, I was like, I couldn't even tell you my middle name. I was so wiped. So I go to walk out the door and they're like, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. I still had one of the necklaces. I hadn't switched back to my own. I'm like, I almost walked out and walked home. Do you believe that it was on action? No, that's when I start running. They know where I live.

00:04:08 - 00:04:11 | Speaker 3:

But Shannon's like, maybe I can have it for this weekend.

00:04:11 - 00:04:27 | Speaker 4:

No, I truly didn't. I would never, ever, ever do that to them. But have you ever walked out of a store, like, accidentally stealing something, whether you were wearing it or it was in, like, your hand or your cart? And then you had to go back in? I mean, thankfully, they realized it before I did.

00:04:27 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 3:

I've had moments where I've tried to walk out but then had security tags on it where the literal security tags would set off things. and it was one of those things where and it was at it was actually Nordstrom's and I was buying a bunch of stuff and then I had some things in my hand that I was not buying or didn't want and I'm and it was one of those moments where you grab the bag from the person you're like okay but you still have it draped around your thing you're just space yeah kind of space out and to show you that mine was definitely on accident if you saw

00:05:00 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 4:

me try to put this thing on you would realize it did not fit me so it was one of those things uh 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 I hear this happens a lot with strollers I remember when we would have strollers like uh and we would go through the store like Chelsea and I when our kids were little the mall was obviously the only place that you could actually take your kids to yeah because you could take them to the food court and they can destroy it and you didn't have to worry about it and our kids would always try to grab things or take things inside of their strollers or you'd put them in the stroller thinking that you're going to go like a basket yeah it's like a built-in basket um text by the way a texter at 95500 says shannon if you are going to steal something at lucido fine jewelry look at their takori jewelry that might be that might be somebody that's uh that's checking things out um i saw something kind of cool too by the way recently that i wanted to bring up and this might be a good time to bring it up too i saw a reddit yesterday that was really good and i want to know if i don't know maybe we call fran or somebody like that or vince or joe lucido uh and ask them this question um it was a reddit that i i checked out yesterday about a guy who proposed to his fiancé and when I say fiancé I put that in quotes proposed to her fiancé with a $20,000 ring Holy crap and she didn't like the ring because the ring was not a real diamond and I put that in quotes it was a man-made diamond which what is a man-made is a man-made diamond

00:06:41 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 3:

so a lab-created diamond

00:06:43 - 00:06:51 | Speaker 4:

and she found out Well, she found out that it wasn't a, that it was not.

00:06:51 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 3:

It was not God-made.

00:06:52 - 00:06:56 | Speaker 4:

It was not a. Earth-made. Whatever. Because a.

00:06:56 - 00:06:57 | Speaker 3:

I say God-made.

00:06:57 - 00:07:04 | Speaker 4:

Because a non-lab created diamond would be a lot more expensive, right? The price of it would be more expensive?

00:07:04 - 00:07:07 | Speaker 3:

Lab-created diamonds are, yeah, way more affordable.

00:07:08 - 00:07:20 | Speaker 4:

Okay. So he actually proposed to her with this. She saw that and said no, gave it back to him, and then said, get me a real diamond. And he actually ended up dumping her because of it.

00:07:20 - 00:07:23 | Speaker 2:

He should have. That is literally crazy.

00:07:23 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 4:

But should he have said to her, this is a lab-created diamond? She found it out on her own.

00:07:28 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 2:

No.

00:07:29 - 00:07:30 | Speaker 4:

He doesn't need to say anything?

00:07:30 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 2:

No, it's a diamond.

00:07:32 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 4:

Okay.

00:07:32 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 2:

That to me just screams other characteristics that I'm, I don't know, are great qualities to have in a partner either. But if the only way you can tell is by putting it in a specific machine that is a camera that turns the image yellow, you can't tell with one of those diamond testers. You can't tell by the naked eye, and it is a great way to make sure that it's coming from a good place. Absolutely.

00:07:56 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 3:

I agree with you, but I don't know if he was trying to pull a fast one on her because you have to insure that stuff at some point, and it's all on the paper. Do you insure?

00:08:06 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 4:

Well, it's obviously $20,000 you'd insure anyway, right?

00:08:09 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I would hope you would.

00:08:10 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 4:

But also the other thing, too, is I would sit there and go, all right, he spent $20,000. It's not like you spent, like, $1,000 buying a cubic or something like that. Christine, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning. How are you?

00:08:25 - 00:08:26 | Unknown:

Good. How are you?

00:08:27 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 4:

Christine, I'm having a day, but that's okay. You don't want to hear from me. Thank you for calling. What's going on?

00:08:34 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 1:

I wanted to say that I was in Scotland with my mom one time, and we went to, like, a haggis version of chipotle and their registers were down so they had us pay after but we forgot and then we just walked out without paying and we realized like 20 minutes later when other customers in the store saw us on the street and were like hey you forgot to pay in the restaurant oh my god so we had to run back before they were closed and we felt really really bad

00:09:01 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 4:

and being in another country who knows what their laws are right yeah they were really nice about it

00:09:07 - 00:09:08 | Speaker 1:

But we were like, oh, my God, I'm so sorry.

00:09:09 - 00:09:15 | Speaker 4:

When you go do a haggis version of Chipotle, what are their items? And do they charge extra for guac?

00:09:18 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 1:

Well, I was, it was, like, my first time attempting, like, trying haggis. So I got the vegetarian kind, but they had, like, I think different meats and stuff, but I got the vegetarian. What is haggis? I don't even know what it is. I've never heard of that before. It's an Irish dish. Yeah, it's, like, Scottish. I think it's, like, a stew or something. It's like intestines. It's like intestines.

00:09:38 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 4:

Oh, Jesus. Stuffed stomach. Oh, my God. Christine, you're making my morning even worse. My stomach is starting to bother me right now. I picked Megan up on the streets today. Okay.

00:09:49 - 00:09:53 | Speaker 3:

I love this story, by the way, that she was walking and you pulled over to pick her up.

00:09:53 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 4:

I picked her up on the streets, and I'm convinced the Ford Field security guard thought that I was picking up a hooker. Not that Megan looks like a hooker.

00:10:00 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 1:

but who randomly gets into a guy's car that pulls up next to them on the side of the road right in front of the courthouse

00:10:05 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 5:

remember a couple of days ago when he called you stout I just got mine

00:10:10 - 00:10:21 | Speaker 1:

I put a disclaimer on there but Megan gets into my car and she goes my stomach's sick I think I might have the flu so ever since then my hypochondria is going off right now

00:10:21 - 00:10:23 | Speaker 2:

I'm now regretting not vomiting on the floor of your car

00:10:23 - 00:10:24 | Speaker 1:

thank you

00:10:24 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 5:

no I'm not fist bumping you I should have done it

00:10:27 - 00:10:38 | Speaker 1:

00:11:05 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 1:

pay for them he ripped it off the store good boy by the way next time you got to get him to like take something bigger like steaks or something like that i know my husband said why are you

00:11:16 - 00:11:22 | Speaker 2:

00:12:08 - 00:12:10 | Speaker 1:

Good job there, little Kev.

00:12:10 - 00:12:34 | Speaker 4:

Thank you. We were in Disney World in Orlando, and we were shopping in one of the stores, and our one-year-old in his stroller grabbed a stuffed animal off of the shelf. And we were like, oh, okay, he can hold on to it for a minute. And we continued shopping. And then we walked out of the store and then realized that he still had it. And we looked at each other and we just kept walking.

00:12:35 - 00:12:38 | Speaker 5:

Oh, you're terrible. Going to hell, aren't you?

00:12:38 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 4:

You know.

00:12:39 - 00:12:45 | Speaker 5:

Did you think in your head, though, Disney has already taken so much of my money today. They are not going to do this. Absolutely.

00:12:46 - 00:12:52 | Speaker 1:

Absolutely. By the way, how would you like to have him steal some diamonds? Listen to Jennifer. Jennifer, are you there?

00:16:20 - 00:16:32 | Speaker 2:

And director Morgan Neville. Film school teaches you all the wrong things about making documentary. What do you want to say? Documentary is all about your ear. What do you hear? I feel like my job is listening really, really hard.
