Can superstars even exist the way they used to?

00:00:02 - 00:00:15 | Speaker 3:

2016 was sort of that last era of monoculture, where we still consumed things in community. Everybody wanted to be Beyonce at that point. I don't think we'll ever see another Rihanna.

00:00:15 - 00:00:34 | Speaker 4:

I'm Mange Shatikular and I'm back with a new season of my podcast Skyline Drive. This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, curmudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.

00:01:37 - 00:01:42 | Speaker 1:

I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.

00:01:43 - 00:01:48 | Speaker 6:

Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Mojo in the Morning, Mojo, Spike, Shannon, Megan, Mike, KP, and Lydia, 104.5 SNX, 92.5 KISS FM, and Channel 955. Last night, all hanging out together, went to the Pistons game. Thank you to the Pistons for hosting us and giving us the nice shout-out during the game. We got a chance to meet a bunch of listeners, man. It was wild walking the concourse there, getting a chance to run into a bunch of people. So it was really cool and getting a lot of texts this morning from listeners to one person not happy with what happened last night and her reason behind not being happy with that might be something that you can relate to. Go ahead, Megan. Who are you not happy with?

00:02:44 - 00:04:21 | Speaker 5:

Shannon Murphy. I'm very I'm not mad. I'm disappointed. Watch out. And I think you almost had my mental name, too. Shannon Nicole Murphy. So disappointed in you because I thought we had come to an agreement yesterday. And that agreement was, it was very obvious that we needed to get food. But we didn't really want to eat an entire meal. So we decided to go Hanzi's. Like, the real girls that we are. We'll just go Hanzi's. We'll just share it. Which, by the way, this girl was like, okay, I can't have this, I can't have this, I can't have this, I can't have this. I said, I'm trying to eat healthy. Allergies. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. She'll die or whatever. Oh, okay. I guess she didn't want to pay to go to the hospital, so we had to work around that. But then when it came to actually ordering, she wouldn't choose anything. She's one of those girls that's like, you just pick. No, that's stressful, B. Very rude of you. Very stressful to put all of that on me. Not only did she make me decide everything, but then we sat down and this bitch ate the entire meal. She ate the entire thing. This is true. I was a little hungrier than I anticipated. So essentially, I just built Shannon's dinner last night with all of the stress while she was filming me, judging my choices. Then she sat down and ate the whole thing to the point where on my way home, I had to stop and get food.

00:04:21 - 00:04:22 | Unknown:

I'm sorry.

00:04:22 - 00:04:34 | Speaker 2:

I hate sharing with people, sharing meals with people for that particular reason. And Megan, earlier this morning, I said, you now know what it's like to be married to a dude. Now you know what it's like to be married to a woman.

00:04:34 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 5:

I felt so bad. At one point, I looked down and I was like, ooh, ooh. I think I ate like 80% of it before Megan had even taken a bite.

00:04:41 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 2:

There is nothing worse than sharing a meal with somebody who says in the beginning, I want to share a meal. Do you want to share this meal? Yeah. Well, I'm not really that hungry. And then you find out. I'm starving. They are starving.

00:04:55 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 5:

No. So I had three bites of rice, two of Mike's fries, one of Lydia's.

00:05:00 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 1:

is fries. And that's it.

00:05:02 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:05:03 - 00:05:05 | Speaker 1:

My dinner was carbs.

00:05:07 - 00:05:08 | Speaker 5:

I'm sorry.

00:05:08 - 00:05:12 | Speaker 1:

You're not. I'm not. It was really freaking good.

00:05:12 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 4:

I should have saved my cheesy breadsticks that I tried to give to Mojo, and he would not eat them at all. He refused to eat my breadsticks. I was starving.

00:05:21 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 5:

I would have eaten them if they didn't have loads of gluten in them. I'd have craped myself. Have you ever had to have diarrhea in a stadium, bathroom, it's not good.

00:05:34 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 1:

They took away my room spray when I was going in there because, you know, hot girls have stomach problems and I carry room spray with me wherever I go. And they took it and they threw it away.

00:05:44 - 00:05:45 | Speaker 5:

Wait, when you were going through security?

00:05:45 - 00:05:49 | Speaker 1:

Yes. And the guy was like, what's this for? And I said, embarrassing moments in public.

00:05:49 - 00:06:00 | Speaker 2:

It's so funny. I went through security with Megan and she said they took some of my things. I didn't ask specifically what things. Like, that's kind of weird to bring an aerosol to a sporting event.

00:06:00 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 1:

Well, I wasn't thinking about it, but also anybody who has IBS knows that you just got to, like, I'm a Girl Scout. Always be prepared. Yeah. And although I'm not rude, I make it smell nice.

00:06:13 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 5:

Spike and Mike, do your ladies in your life want to share food with you all the time, or do you guys, you know, have them, do they like to eat their own meals?

00:06:23 - 00:06:39 | Speaker 2:

No, they're pretty good. I mean, not they. how do you know meg's pretty good she my girlfriend will order her own thing and sometimes i'm the one that want to taste hers i'm the annoying one yeah but we end up we a lot of times we just end up ordering two things and then sharing both of them because because well do you ever have it

00:06:39 - 00:06:47 | Speaker 5:

where you order two things and one over shares like one eats more than 50 of the food no i don't

00:06:47 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 2:

think so sometimes i drink a little faster with the beer and then i'll pour a little of her beer

00:06:52 - 00:07:14 | Speaker 5:

into my cup i hate sharing i hate sharing for this reason that what you said you eat a little bit faster yeah because what happens with me is i eat faster she eats slower and all i want to do is finish the rest of what she didn't finish but i don't want to do it too fast because i have done that and she doesn't need anything but mike do you ever do that with ali do you guys share food or

00:07:14 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 4:

i don't mind sharing but the thing my wife does is she'll wait for for like to see what i want And then she'll get that exact same thing. And I'm like, well, we can't share then because you've just gotten the same thing that I got. I want two completely different things so that we can share different things.

00:07:31 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, well, that's a foul that we've talked about before on the show where you can't order the same meals as the other person. What's up, David?

00:07:41 - 00:07:47 | Speaker 3:

I can't share until I'm done. Don't touch my plate while I'm eating. Once I'm finished, have all you want.

00:07:47 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 1:

Joe doesn't share food.

00:07:50 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 5:

Give us an example of why you don't like to share. What has happened to you that's caused you to be so...

00:07:58 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 3:

OCD with dirty hands. Oh, is that what it is? Really? Absolutely. Did you wash your hands or whatever? I don't want you touching my food that I'm eating at the same time. When I'm done, have all you want. I don't care.

00:08:10 - 00:08:14 | Speaker 5:

Wait, even with your partner, though? You think their hands are that dirty?

00:08:15 - 00:08:17 | Speaker 3:

Everybody's dirty. Everybody's hands are dirty.

00:08:17 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 5:

Okay.

00:08:19 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 3:

I don't know how they eat after me. I'm a pig.

00:08:21 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 5:

So what would you have done if you were Megan and you would have somebody like Shannon who says, I'm not really that hungry, and then she eats the entire thing?

00:08:34 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 3:

I'd be mad.

00:08:38 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. That's the reason.

00:08:39 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 3:

If you order yours, I'll order mine. Whatever you want after I'm done.

00:08:43 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 5:

Is it bad, by the way, that yesterday we were eating in this, like, I don't know what they call it at the Little Caesars Arena.

00:08:51 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 1:

Like a food hall?

00:08:51 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, like a food court or something like they have at the mall. And I really wanted the burgers, but the line was way too long. You ever go to, like, the food court at the mall, and the one place always has the longest line, and you know it's because it's the best food there? But I will settle for The Sbarro pizza That has nobody there And stuff's been under the heat lamp For about five years Because I'm so hungry

00:09:17 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 1:

Extra flavor

00:09:17 - 00:09:29 | Speaker 5:

By the way, somebody needs to tell me At those food courts The food that's on display That has basically been sitting there for eight years Since you guys opened up, right?

00:09:29 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 1:

It's always the cookie places The cookie places that look like it's dried out And weird looking I'm like, oh, put something new in there.

00:09:37 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 5:

Why is it also, too, at restaurants when they have the dessert spinny thing in the beginning of the restaurant where it shows you the desserts, the plastic or fake-looking desserts look better than the stuff that they bring out to you? I'm like, spray it down with some kind of a lacquer or something like that that makes it look a little shiny.

00:09:57 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

Last night, we were all eating at the district, which is kind of like a food court.

00:10:00 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 5:

And so I was sitting there looking at there's no line at the salad place. And I just couldn't do it. I'm like, I'd rather stand in a long line than.

00:10:11 - 00:10:16 | Speaker 7:

How do you trust a salad at a game? You know what I mean? How fresh is that lettuce?

00:10:16 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 5:

Well, I mean, it looks fresh. It's probably just as fresh as everything else. They're probably all in this using the same kitchen for all six restaurants. To me, it's just I can't have a salad at a basketball game. I have a beer in my hand. It's not going to fill me up. It's just not going to work. And then I'm going to be talking to listeners all night with big leaf of lettuce in my teeth.

00:10:35 - 00:10:48 | Speaker 7:

My favorite were these guys. It was a, it was a, like a family from Macomb that were in front of us. And I said, is this thing good? This, uh, like the Chipotle knockoff that they have there. And he goes, yeah, I haven't gotten sick yet.

00:10:51 - 00:11:08 | Speaker 6:

He's dribbling the ball with everything on the line. He's driving down the pitch. He's facing price hikes and cuts past them. Carrier contracts tries to block them. Oh, he leaves him in the dust. He's at the edge of the box. He cuts past the nonstop group chat trash talk. He clears on goal. He shoots. No! Unlimited data for $25 a month forever.
