This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:00:53 - 00:01:37 | Speaker 1:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science in general education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, But it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

All right, it's Mojo on the morning show. Shannon, first off, are you sending out like beautiful Christmas cards?

00:01:52 - 00:01:59 | Speaker 5:

I don't send Christmas cards, remember? I do Valentine's cards. Just because it's way too crazy at this time of the year.

00:01:59 - 00:02:02 | Speaker 7:

Who's the family that looks like yours that I am? I get so many Christmas cards sometimes.

00:02:02 - 00:02:05 | Speaker 5:

See, that's why I don't do Christmas cards, because they just get lost in the shuffle, too.

00:02:05 - 00:02:13 | Speaker 7:

I get Christmas cards sent to me, and when I get Christmas cards sent to me, nine out of ten times I have to ask Chelsea who the hell it is. I'm like, who are these people? Those are our friends.

00:02:13 - 00:02:33 | Speaker 5:

It's funny. I love, love, love getting holiday cards. I just don't do it, because this time of the year, I am tapped out and stressed out. And so to me, it just makes more sense to have like a family photo taken in January. And then I send them out for Valentine's Day. And that's what I do instead. But it's interesting that you brought up Christmas cards.

00:02:33 - 00:02:36 | Speaker 7:

Can I borrow your family for my Christmas cards? I'm just going to use the kids.

00:02:36 - 00:02:42 | Speaker 5:

They're going to be like stunt kids. They would love it. Pay them with Coca-Cola. You're good.

00:02:42 - 00:02:42 | Speaker 7:

Yeah.

00:02:43 - 00:03:52 | Speaker 5:

I yesterday, this just happened yesterday. I'm part of a big group text with a bunch of girls that I love so much. But unfortunately, for several reasons, I'm just not as close to them as I used to be. We are all still friends, but it's a group of women that I mostly hung out with when I was married, like my first marriage. And so I still just adore all of these moms. But since I'm not married to my ex-husband anymore, I'm just, I'm not around them as much. I don't hang out with them as much. No, they really didn't. to be honest they didn't they didn't really choose either of us we just I mean I guess I would say they still chose me because we still will hang out and I'm still on this group text but yesterday the group text was about arranging time to spend together like quality time to spend together but one of the girls in the group and so smart for saying this was like let's do a brunch or something after the holiday in January when everybody's schedule is a little bit less crazy and I was like yes I'm in this is such a great idea and she followed it up with it's been so great to get everybody's christmas cards in the mail and see all your faces and i'm going it like

00:03:52 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 7:

oh they didn't send anything to you i have not gotten one holiday card really from any person

00:03:59 - 00:04:13 | Speaker 5:

in this group do those mean okay i get it like things change when you know marriages end and whatever but it does it does mean a lot to me okay and so that's why my feelings are kind of hurt

00:04:13 - 00:04:28 | Speaker 4:

i love getting them don't don't please don't take this wrong way like it makes me happy when i get them but i don't expect them from people like i feel like you can just post a family photo up on instagram let me give it a like don't pay for the the postage so i expect them if i've gotten them

00:04:28 - 00:04:45 | Speaker 5:

from those people in the past okay yeah right so and so tonight like i'm looking through this list of like the people on this text and i'm like i'm gonna get one from her i'm gonna get one from her and again i'm trying to go it's okay they like relationships evolve yeah you know and do you

00:04:45 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 7:

Do you think they purposely didn't, or what do you think? I don't know. Are you just an oversight? I don't know. You know what you should do is you should answer back.

00:04:52 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 5:

I am not answering, although I'm talking about it here.

00:04:56 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 7:

Well, you already brought it up on the air, so this is more passive-aggressive than anything.

00:05:00 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 3:

if you answered back and said, I didn't get your card.

00:05:02 - 00:05:07 | Speaker 7:

By the way, I'm not meaning to be passive aggressive by any means. I mean, I'm talking about it because I'm saying my feelings are hurt. Yeah.

00:05:08 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 3:

I think honestly, just for that, can you send your company Christmas card? I mean, not company, your family Christmas card to us here at the radio station. Send it to Shannon iHeartRadio.

00:05:24 - 00:05:26 | Speaker 7:

I don't need a pity card. It's okay.

00:05:26 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 3:

I want to see how many people do this. Shannon iHeartRadio 2529 Orlean Street, Detroit 48207 And send us yours And then what we're going to do is Everybody that sends their family's holiday card We're going to post them all in the studio here

00:06:21 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 3:

it hard for her no she would her thank you will be the that it will be you know put up in the studio divorce sucks and the things that sometimes that happen in divorce like i always feel bad when you hear stories like instantly i thought to myself i'm like oh they must have chose you know

00:06:35 - 00:06:49 | Speaker 7:

uh the kid's dad over it's so like this holiday season sorry i feel like i'm getting like all choked up this holiday season has is very different for me and it's like hitting me hard and this was like a kind of at the cherry on top where i feel like everything has changed this year

00:06:49 - 00:07:00 | Speaker 6:

why um your routines have changed just so much has changed yeah yeah and we yeah and it's been

00:07:00 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 5:

extraordinarily hard right i have kept you guys all know this behind the scenes i've kept a lot of it in but it is it is going to be a it's been a very hard couple of months it's gonna be I get it. Very, very hard. Yeah. Yeah.

00:07:16 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 3:

I thought you've handled it well, though. You really have? Honestly, I've got to be honest with you. Sorry. You've handled it so gracefully.

00:07:21 - 00:07:23 | Speaker 5:

What is it about this hour that we cried?

00:07:23 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 3:

I don't know.

00:07:24 - 00:07:26 | Speaker 5:

This was yesterday. I feel you.

00:07:26 - 00:07:36 | Speaker 3:

This is the crying hour. Just for that, I don't even have family at home right now. Just Chelsea, me, and the two dogs I hate. I'm going to get a picture of me with them today.

00:07:36 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 6:

Dude, I literally did this. I was like, do you think JCPenney has any openings? and I'll just go by myself in a weird outfit.

00:07:43 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 7:

Sorry, I feel so dumb. Justin, it's not the holiday cards. It's just a lot of things.

00:07:48 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 2:

And that was like the, oof.

00:07:50 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 3:

What's going on, Justin?

00:07:52 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 2:

Yo. Hey. Yo. Yo, yo, can y'all hear me?

00:07:57 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 3:

What'd you want to say, Justin?

00:07:59 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 2:

Oh, I was just saying, maybe they didn't send a Christmas card because they didn't want to bring up, like, memories because, you know, they would have to send both of you guys type things.

00:08:08 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's a bright spot of it. yeah maybe it's they just don't want to bring up I don't know but she's still gonna see them and go out on a you know potential brunch

00:08:18 - 00:08:26 | Speaker 6:

and I think the worst part of it all was like you just didn't have to put it in the group chat like you could have even sent them to and I don't think that it was

00:08:26 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 3:

they probably just don't know

00:08:28 - 00:08:29 | Speaker 6:

correct

00:08:29 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 3:

it was not malicious Angela what's up

00:08:33 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 2:

hey I don't think it was malicious either I think a lot of people base their Christmas card list on the Christmas cards that they receive and that's how they get their addresses. And so I'm not a Christmas card sender either, so I don't get a lot of Christmas cards.

00:08:51 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, Shannon sends them Valentine's cards. Do you still send all those ladies Valentine's? Yes.

00:08:56 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 6:

That's my favorite part. Literally, it's the only time I check my mail is around Valentine's Day because I just know that it's coming. Lisa, what's up? Megan, it was July last year. Hi! My bad.

00:09:06 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 4:

I was just going to say I don't send cards. I stop sending cards to people who don't send cards to me. And so I feel like that's maybe more what it's about.

00:09:19 - 00:09:21 | Speaker 3:

But Shannon sends them Valentine's cards.

00:09:22 - 00:09:24 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. But she doesn't send them Christmas cards.

00:09:24 - 00:09:35 | Speaker 3:

I understand that, but they're still on the same address plan. I would say that that would be the case, you know, if it wasn't that she still keeps in correspondence. What's up, Melinda?

00:09:36 - 00:10:17 | Speaker 1:

Hey, good morning, y'all. Well, Shannon, I am going through the exact same thing you are. I have my daughter just turned eight yesterday. My son is 10, and my divorce was final about a month ago. And it is the hardest thing I've ever went through, even though I know it's the right decision. And so I just want to send you a big hug because it sucks. I feel like such a crybaby because I got divorced so many years ago. You know, this isn't like a fresh thing, but it's just year after year. It is very interesting to me how much still changes, right? And this year has just been a lot of change.

00:10:18 - 00:10:41 | Speaker 7:

Yeah. Well, I'm sending you a hug because we first separated four years ago. And even though, like, you know everything is the right decision, like, everything changing is so hard to swallow. Like, not like my kids leaving my house on Thanksgiving to go with their dad crushed me. So, big hugs. You're amazing. Thank you.

00:10:41 - 00:10:49 | Speaker 4:

Can you also send a Christmas card to her of your family minus the guy that you divorced? All right. We love you.

00:10:49 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 7:

Have a great day, y'all.

00:10:51 - 00:11:06 | Speaker 4:

Thank you. By the way, I wanted to see those people that when they get divorced, but they got divorced and they already made their Christmas cards like during the summertime. Do you Photoshop the a-hole that you divorced out of the thing? I would die. You got a really good picture in like Florida or something on a vacation?

00:11:07 - 00:11:13 | Speaker 2:

Like just an X, like a Sharpie X. You didn't even Photoshop them out or put the effort in. You just scribbled it out.

00:11:13 - 00:11:14 | Speaker 4:

Make them look like a snowman.

00:11:14 - 00:11:42 | Speaker 6:
