Hey, Portlandia fans.

00:00:47 - 00:00:48 | Speaker 3:

Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.

00:00:49 - 00:00:51 | Speaker 2:

The dream of the 90s is alive in podcast form.

00:00:52 - 00:01:03 | Speaker 3:

We're launching Podlandia AO Rewatch, our brand new podcast where we revisit every episode of Portlandia together, breaking down sketches, going deep on our iconic characters, and pulling back the curtain on how it all got made.

00:01:03 - 00:01:15 | Speaker 2:

And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life, guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Kreisel, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.

00:01:15 - 00:01:21 | Speaker 3:

Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised not just words, but a song.

00:01:21 - 00:01:22 | Speaker 2:

Well, I thought you were all going to write a song.

00:01:22 - 00:01:31 | Speaker 3:

I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia, AAO Rewatch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:32 - 00:01:50 | Speaker 4:

All right, it is the Emojo in the Morning Show, home of the phone scams. We've got a phone scam coming up here in just a little bit. Stick around for that. Shannon, you're disappointed by what happened on Friday when you went out. Was it Friday or Saturday?

00:01:50 - 00:01:56 | Speaker 1:

It was Saturday. It doesn't matter. then I'm going to give you some crap. Oh, I know. Okay. That does change the story. All right. Go,

00:01:56 - 00:02:00 | Speaker 4:

go, go tell your story because I thought it was Friday. I was like, it's understandable.

00:02:01 - 00:03:50 | Speaker 1:

No. Okay. So I, I'm going to title this topic. I'm disappointed in my performance. And I feel like people can relate to this. Have you ever met a group of people for the very first time and walked away not being happy with your performance, like with your own personality? Literally every day. Okay. Well, this was me on Saturday night. So I think I said this, um, at the end of the show on Friday, I had a holiday party that I had to go to this weekend. It was supposed to happen in December. It got postponed because both of the hosts who put it on came down with COVID. So instead of cancel it, they love doing this holiday party. So they just said, Oh, we'll just do it the second weekend in, in January, the first weekend of January, whatever. And so it was, this group of friends are close to my boyfriend, Wes. So it's his like very, very close friends that were the hosts, Dave and Annie. Hi, guys. And then a bunch of other people that he had met through a former job of his. And so I had met the hosts many times before. Actually, they came to our jingle ball a couple of weeks ago, but it was my first time meeting all of the other people who were there. Okay. So the night started off great. Like I feel like I was really talkative and fun and drinking and laughing. Well, then I sat down in the living room and it was cold. So somebody was really sweet and covered me in a blanket. So I'm sitting on a chair in a blanket on Saturday night. Bad idea because morning show Shannon kicked in and I could feel myself falling asleep. This has happened to all of us in social situations. I tried so darn hard to maintain conversation, but you know that feeling of like, you know your eyeballs are rolling into the back of your head and your eyelids are shutting and you're trying so hard to not make it obvious that that's what's happening. All I could think about was going to bed.

00:03:50 - 00:03:52 | Speaker 4:

And again, this was on Saturday.

00:03:52 - 00:03:53 | Speaker 1:

This is on Saturday night.

00:03:53 - 00:03:54 | Speaker 4:

And we don't work on Saturdays.

00:03:54 - 00:04:23 | Speaker 1:

Correct. But I'm still freaking tired and a zombie all the time. so everybody else is doing shots and they're dancing and they're like going in and out they're going outside on the patio to smoke cigars i couldn't move it was over there well there were some other girls that were talking like a bunch of the girls were talking while you were sleeping and wes was there too um it was all the girls and wes and wes said it was so obvious that i was in and out of like being coherent and so finally he just took me home and so i woke up yesterday

00:04:23 - 00:04:51 | Speaker 4:

morning wanting a second chance i'm like i was not that fine you know what's funny is that i've fallen asleep numerous times at friends houses or at our house even and parties and stuff and they will for basically you know all intents and purposes just hang with chelsea which they're completely fine with yeah like they've learned that it's more fun just to be with my wife and And they invite me, I think, just to get a good nap.

00:04:51 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 1:

And I know why you say Saturday night you're going to give me grief because usually it's Friday night this happens because Friday night we still wake up super early. My only excuse is I had to.

00:05:00 - 00:05:15 | Speaker 6:

kids this last week was my week to have the kids so i was just doubly exhausted they stay up later than me by the way so on friday night i wake up in the middle of the night they're still up watching tv um but it was so bad i was just i was not cool yeah our friends all expect it they know

00:05:15 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 7:

it of us by now but this is like a new group you're meeting so that's where the it's really embarrassing because you're trying to make a good impression this happened to me in college i fell

00:05:24 - 00:05:29 | Speaker 1:

asleep in the middle of a like legit a college frat party and my boyfriend got so mad at me

00:05:29 - 00:05:48 | Speaker 6:

like you can't help it yeah you can't help it but I woke up so bummed at myself yesterday morning because I'm like I feel like I'm not going to get invited to hang out with this group again and I really want to because I liked everybody that I met but I just I faded real quick real

00:05:48 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 7:

quick maybe they enjoyed Wes so much they'll invite him and well they know Wes but I don't

00:05:54 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 6:

want them to be like wow his girlfriend's a dud yeah because he was a dud yeah well but did you get a good nap at least uh on the chair yeah was it actually I mean do you feel rested it was a comfortable chair it was a comfortable blanket I was just I was real happy I was calling I was

00:06:15 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 8:

calling Wes because I wanted to see if if uh Wes uh wants to tell us what were they doing to you while you were on the couch sleeping.

00:06:23 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 4:

How would you be talking about me?

00:06:24 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 8:

No, like, do they put things in your ear or do they try to put your hand in, like, you know how you'd fall asleep when you were younger?

00:06:30 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 6:

Yes.

00:06:30 - 00:06:36 | Speaker 8:

As a kid, and your friends would, like, put your hand in, like, lukewarm water and it would cause you to pee your pants.

00:06:36 - 00:06:45 | Speaker 6:

And the other thing is you guys know this. I am an ugly sleeper. Mouth wide open. I sleep with my mouth wide open. So I just, yeah.

00:06:46 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 8:

I need a redo. 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548. What did you sleep through? Because we doing this show all the time, we end up falling asleep at all times. I have slept through more recitals, choir competitions. I've slept through more fun parties at friends' houses on a Friday night. You slept through rock concerts. Rock concerts. I slept through the Avenged Sevenfold concert.

00:07:12 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 7:

I fell asleep in the car wash once before I got out the other side.

00:07:15 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 6:

I just so badly wanted to make a good first impression and failed really miserably. You gotta lower that bar, girl. Yeah, you're right.

00:07:26 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 8:

Tell Wes I'll go with him next Saturdays. I'm good on Saturdays. Actually, Megan, you just don't even show up and just stay home and sleep, don't you?

00:07:32 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 3:

That is correct, dude. I've stopped telling people, like, oh, I don't feel good, or oh, I don't know if I'm busy that night. I get up at 3 o'clock in the morning. I'm not staying out until 11 o'clock at night.

00:07:44 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 8:

You got the excuse.

00:07:45 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 3:

I'm not doing it.

00:07:46 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 8:

The excuse on that one. Actually, it's funny because Chelsea has just shown up at parties without me and just said that. Said he was sleeping. I couldn't get him up off the couch. Anna, what's going on?

00:07:56 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 5:

Hi. How are you guys?

00:07:57 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 8:

Good. What did you sleep through?

00:07:59 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 5:

I slept through a tornado.

00:08:01 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 7:

Holy. Whoa. Wow. Did they have sirens at all before to warn you?

00:08:07 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 5:

No. It was Father's Day weekend last weekend, and my husband kept trying to wake me up and wake me up. And I took a sleeping pill because I had to go to work at 3 o'clock in the morning. And he left me upstairs all alone.

00:08:22 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 7:

Oh, my gosh. He couldn't wake you, so he just left you there.

00:08:26 - 00:08:27 | Speaker 5:

He left me there, and he went downstairs.

00:08:28 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 8:

Why did he not pick you up and carry you like a romantic husband?

00:08:31 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 5:

It was too late. The tornado, by the time he went downstairs, the tornado had already went through by our house.

00:08:37 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 8:

Did it cause any damage to your home?

00:08:40 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, yeah. It ripped up, and, like, it caused a lot of damage.

00:08:44 - 00:08:54 | Speaker 8:

If I did that to Chelsea, I better hope she dies. I better hope that the wind carries her to Dorothy's Never Never Land or whatever.

00:08:54 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 6:

You're mixing up stories, and it's bothering me.

00:08:57 - 00:08:58 | Speaker 8:

To Oz, yeah.

00:08:59 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 7:

If I were the husband, I would have just told him, wow, you slept right through me carrying you down to the basement. I can't believe you didn't wake up when I was, I think I might have hit your head on the railing as I carried you down because I was not going to leave you behind. I carried you down and then carried you right back up. Yes, and put you right back to bed.

00:09:17 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 8:

You don't remember? Wow. That's amazing. What did you sleep through, Stephen?

00:09:24 - 00:09:30 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I slept through the Wakanda movie. I just went there, and I was just so tired, I just fell asleep.

00:09:30 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 8:

I sleep all the time. I sleep in every movie because those chairs are so comfortable.

00:09:35 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, especially with that new VIP stuff going on.

00:09:38 - 00:09:42 | Speaker 8:

Oh, dude, I'm telling you, Imagine Theater's the best. What's up, bud, Jesse?

00:09:43 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 4:

Hey, Mojo.

00:09:44 - 00:09:45 | Speaker 8:

Hi, what did you sleep through?

00:09:45 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 4:

I slept through a first date.

00:09:47 - 00:09:48 | Speaker 8:

Oh, jeez.

00:09:48 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

No way. Yeah. I had a cold, and I took some, you know, some cold medicine, and I was in high school, actually. And, you know, the independent...

00:10:00 - 00:10:06 | Speaker 7:

movie with will smith yeah yeah that's what i was watching i remember sitting down with him it was

00:10:06 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 8:

our first day and i woke up to the end of the movie are you are you like shannon are you a awful sleeper like do you have your mouth open and drool and stuff um i drool i don't snore but i drool could you imagine your first date and you start snoring i mean that's it's pretty bad that's You're making me feel better.

00:10:25 - 00:10:33 | Speaker 5:

But at least he could feel comforted that you thought he was so comfortable around to be around. You felt safe. You felt safe around him. Yeah, you felt safe, yes.

00:10:33 - 00:10:39 | Speaker 8:

Can you imagine if he just leaves you there? And then next thing you know, he's on second date update on the Mojo in the Morning Show.

00:10:39 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 5:

Oh, I got a story for you later this morning. I saw a date leave their date at the bar mid-date. I'll tell you about that later.

00:10:46 - 00:10:49 | Speaker 8:

Doreen, last call. I got to get to the scam. Last call. What's going on?

00:10:50 - 00:11:14 | Speaker 7:

Good morning, guys. Good morning. Hi. Um, I fell asleep in a tanning booth and that was like early 2000s back in the day when it was like 20 minute limit and you had to, you know, you wore headphones. So I was in there just so tired just from working and I laid there and all of a sudden I woke up to like all these people standing there while I was a butt naked.

00:11:14 - 00:11:18 | Speaker 8:

Oh my God. Oh my God. They probably thought you died.

00:11:19 - 00:11:21 | Speaker 7:

I was just super tired.

00:11:21 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 8:

I bet. Hold on. I'm getting a call. Oh, I think that that was Wes calling up on that line. I think it was. Was it? Yeah. He was sleeping at the time that we called.
