Mojo in the morning. just uh got a uh text from our boss tony said that the traffic is a mess i was my traffic

00:02:33 - 00:02:45 | Speaker 2:

screen is all different colors and that's never good the last uh traffic report you just did was like three times the length of what a normal one was i only did maybe a third of what what's going

00:02:45 - 00:04:23 | Speaker 3:

on well i think in and i know everywhere there's obviously traffic issues but one of the biggest issues is the road closure in the Detroit area where 696 eastbound has been shut down for what is not a huge area of town, but it's a huge traffic area of town. And they closed it down for two years as they're redoing this thing, redoing the Ruther or whatever the hell they're calling it. And this morning I was noticing all the detour signs all over the place. And I don't take a 696, but I do take one of the detoured areas and their detour areas are just asinine. Like they make no sense because normally when you detour, you detour just off of the road and then come right back on the road. They don't want to put people through some of the local areas, the mile road areas. So they're fully detouring you way in front of the, uh, the, what is the construction area so they're making you get off the road i don't know a couple miles or even more sooner than you should and then they're wanting you to go 20 plus miles out of your way to detour and go on another highway because there's no parallel highway for them to to make you go on because 696 back in the day when it was built was literally the the the only east west version of things you know um so it's it's insane i uh i don't know i don't know i still will never get why in michigan they do it this way it's probably the best route though even though it's super

00:04:23 - 00:04:27 | Speaker 2:

inconvenient and it looks crazy i guarantee they spent months trying to identify with the best

00:04:27 - 00:05:29 | Speaker 3:

detour cav you're an optimistic guy uh leave it to me the pessimist on this one it is not it's asinine because what happens is usually when you do construction in other cities they don't do construction on the detoured areas and the problem is they're doing construction on what should be their detoured areas some of the mile roads and they shouldn't be doing that what they should be doing is waiting on the construction on those local lane areas so that they can put all the traffic through there and then it makes people's lives you know much better I don't know.

00:05:00 - 00:05:01 | Speaker 1:

That sounds like poor planning.

00:05:01 - 00:05:08 | Speaker 2:

Not that the detour was incorrect. No, well, the detour is way incorrect. It should be you get off on the mile roads.

00:05:08 - 00:05:25 | Speaker 1:

Aren't they doing, I think they're doing, I should know this. I have the traffic screen in front of me, but aren't they doing some construction on some of the mile roads too, I think? That's what I was saying. So I'm looking at this now and I'm going like, look at, can you guys even see this? Why don't you take the lodge, bro? It's like, whoa. Yeah. That's crazy. So much going on.

00:05:25 - 00:05:27 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. But you know what?

00:05:27 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 1:

There is a silver lining. it just means you get more time with us oh stop it and we love having you thank you

00:05:35 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 2:

that's the way to look at it

00:05:37 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 1:

we're going to get really good prizes for the next two years and Kev's going to go on dating benders whatever you need me to do

00:05:47 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 2:

that makes you sound that makes everything all better I know that alright it's Mojo in the morning show phone number is 844 Mojo live The text is nine five five zero zero. If you ever call the show, tell us if you're a first time, long time. If you've never been on the air, we want to know about that. You know, what's funny is when somebody will say to me, hey, how are you doing? Have you ever done this before? You throw them off and you tell them you're not doing good and just see them go, oh, great. And have that happen. Have you ever had that happen to you at all before when you've done that? Or somebody has done that to you? I feel like I can look at people and tell, though. Well, no, but I'm saying when somebody does it, usually people don't really want to care how you're doing.

00:06:31 - 00:06:34 | Speaker 1:

Because we all just go, I'm good. I'm good. How are you? They always answer. Standard response.

00:06:34 - 00:06:53 | Speaker 2:

Everybody answers the same way. And then you know what the answer is. Throw somebody off today. And if somebody says, hey, how you doing? Just say to them, even if you are doing great, just say, I'm not doing great. And then watch the look on their face like, oh, crap. I got to actually talk to you. But Shannon, you aren't doing great. What happened?

00:06:53 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 1:

this truly happened yesterday so yesterday was a great that we had a great show the day started off strong and then it gradually just turned into a really crappy day um a house expense turned out to cost way more than i thought it was going to cost um my co-parenting relationship is not in a good place. And that is weighing on me a ton. I have a friend going through some stuff that's really hard. It was it all just like started compounding. And I I had like hit my limit in the day. And so I went to I was randomly at the tailor because I'm five feet tall. So everything that I buy, I have to get hemmed. And I am I have gone to this guy since before Lucy was born. So I've known him for well over a decade. I know him really well. And I love him. And I'm standing there in this dress and he's like you know got the pins and he's trying to mark mark the hemming or whatever and he goes how's your day going so far Shannon and I gave him the standard it's good it's actually really good how's yours and before this poor guy could even answer I caught myself and I was like nope no I'm like that is an absolute lie I was like today is actually really spitty I almost swore um but that's what I that's what I said and I'm like it has I was like I can't even pretend or fake it anymore it has turned out to be a really crappy afternoon and my I could feel my face get hot and my eyes just like well up with tears I had bubbled over at this point in the day and he did something that meant so much to me and I think to him it was just a little blip in his day but he got up and he put his hands on my shoulders and he gave me a hug and he's like I am I wish more people were honest I'm not having a really great day either and he just gave me a hug wow but i know i threw him off when he was just expecting me to be like yep i'm good that's all but i i like there are those days you have when you're just like i'm actually not good

00:08:57 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 2:

i'm not i'm looking at your face you can tell that you're that i am not good yeah but yeah it it does it feel good to tell us also that you're not you guys are used to me no but it does it i mean honestly does it does it feel good because sometimes you keep it in

00:09:14 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 1:

for such a long time for sure yeah for sure i i just felt bad that it was like the taylor who was

00:09:20 - 00:09:26 | Speaker 2:

on the the receiving end of me being like but it brought out his did you guys talk at all about

00:09:26 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 1:

what your not goods were or no he we did a little bit and obviously i'm not going to share his but um he he he just said to me he said um these conversations don't have don't happen enough and he said we're all we're all people we're all human we all have you know we all have really really good days and we all have bad you know types of bad days and wow i i feel awful because something similar happened to me this weekend and now i'm feeling like i didn't say enough but when um zach and i were checking into our hotel this weekend

00:10:00 - 00:10:20 | Speaker 4:

The girl who was working at the front desk was clearly trying to hold back tears. And we were like, hey, how are you? And she was like, fine. And then you just, you want to keep asking, but you don't want to make her cry. And you don't, like, I always feel terrible in those situations of like, do I just let you try to work through this or do I kind of dig deep and get you to bubble over? Yeah.

00:10:21 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 2:

Did he stick you with a pin when he hugged you?

00:10:25 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 5:

He did not. No.

00:10:28 - 00:10:50 | Speaker 2:

Here you go. I'll give you this one. That's, that's amazing. I'll be honest with you. You probably meant so much to him, but he probably has, I don't know about that, but it probably has no clue. He probably doesn't realize that here you are this morning, you know, and you can bring it up on the air because of that moment. Cause otherwise that goes in passing and you just push it down, push it down, push it down.

00:10:50 - 00:10:57 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. Yeah. It meant a lot to me that he just let me have a minute to, you know, vent and take a deep breath.

00:10:58 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 2:

And then that's incredible. Listen, we do a lot of things on our show that are fun and funny, and we do some things on our show that are just goofy and stupid. This is some of the most important stuff that I think we do on our show because, guarantee, this is something that is more relatable to the listeners than anything funny that we do. You know what I mean? Because you're going through something right now, and if you are, you know what? It's okay to be honest and tell somebody, hey, I'm not doing good. Liz, what's going on?

00:11:31 - 00:11:33 | Speaker 1:

Hi, good morning. How are you guys? Good morning.

00:11:33 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 2:

We're good. What's going on?

00:11:37 - 00:12:44 | Speaker 1:

The story this morning, it just really touched me. This year, I made a promise to myself that I was going to actually start being honest with people when they asked me, how are you doing? And, you know, I'm a new mom working full time. It's been a lot. and uh this year my manager had asked me how are you doing and i just was honest with him um you know mortgage payments had gone up postpartum is ridiculous and um i've been struggling with work and when i was finally honest with him i was just overwhelmed with the support that he gave me um he helped me find uh you know some local local resources to help uh for like new moms he went out of his way to help me with resources at work i mean it's just been incredible just that one time of just being open and how much it has changed and helped me to this very day i'm trying not to cry no yeah but i think it's important to be honest you know what's amazing

00:12:44 - 00:12:58 | Speaker 2:

that's so incredible because you hear nothing but negatives about people's business works and stuff like that. That's a person that honestly you will be loyal to because of the effort, the extra effort that he put into it.

00:13:00 - 00:13:03 | Speaker 1:

Absolutely. Absolutely. Liz, we're going to think of you.

00:13:05 - 00:13:10 | Speaker 2:

Thank you for sharing this morning. Yeah. We're going to be thinking of you. You hang in there, okay?

00:13:10 - 00:13:16 | Speaker 1:

okay thank you guys love you guys so much love you back see that's what's so wrong with this

00:13:16 - 00:13:34 | Speaker 3:

world man it's like we're so conditioned to operate in a world full of lies that it feels so distant from reality to finally speak about the truth like leaning into the truth of how you feel feels like the wrong thing to do well and it throws people off because we're not used to it

00:13:34 - 00:14:03 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. And like the way that I equate it to is I it's like I have a bucket of stuff I can like, quote unquote, take. And most of the time and you guys know this, I'll just like I'll pour into that bucket like, OK, I'm fine. I'll just shove this under the rug. OK, I'm fine. I'll just have this. And but like yesterday was the day that my bucket over overflowed, overflowed, it overflowed and not in a good way. But yeah, so this is just a reminder to empty your dang buckets.

00:14:03 - 00:14:15 | Speaker 3:

And don't wait until it gets to the point of overflowing, which I feel like is something we're also conditioned to do, especially when you got so much going on. Right. Like, why do we wait until it's tipping over to allow ourselves that freedom to release?

00:14:15 - 00:14:16 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:14:16 - 00:14:37 | Speaker 3:

And I feel like when we have real talk on the show, like when we honest with each other, there's so much power and honesty. There's so much freedom and honesty. It's only when we lock it all inside and pile and pile it on that we start to get weighed down. Yeah. But the moment you, you know, unleash it and let it go is when you start to spread your wings a little bit. That probably was so, like you said, it was probably so freeing for you in that moment, just to be honest. Yeah.

00:14:38 - 00:14:38 | Speaker 2:

Alicia, hi.

00:14:40 - 00:14:44 | Speaker 1:

Hey, guys. I was just going to ask how you are this morning, but we all know that now, so.

00:14:46 - 00:14:49 | Speaker 2:

No, really, but really, though, Shannon, how are you today?

00:14:56 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

You can tell by that pause. It's okay. We're all.

00:15:00 - 00:15:02 | Speaker 3:

A lot more of us, I like that.

00:15:02 - 00:15:09 | Speaker 4:

90% of my life is amazing and I am so grateful. But the 10% that is crappy is really crappy.

00:15:11 - 00:16:02 | Speaker 3:

I just wanted to call in and let you know that even though it is really hard to even just say that, you know, I'm not feeling okay today. um you know i i i feel that i have been co-parenting with an alcoholic and he's an amazing person um but it's also extremely hard to let your four and seven year olds know why daddy can't see them and it weighs on you over and over and you guys are honestly the glimpse of light in our mornings and that's why so many people connect with you and please never feel guilty for or that you're trauma dumping for telling us that you're not okay because there's a lot of us that aren't and we can really relate to that and we're here for you thank you alicia

00:16:02 - 00:16:13 | Speaker 2:

that that's that's huge that's that means so much to us yeah you guys mean a lot to us and you're a very strong person to do that because you're trying to protect your kids and you trying to

00:16:13 - 00:17:11 | Speaker 3:

protect your ex too yeah let's hope he gets some help here in a place yeah it's you know it's one of those things where those people the people that are going through an addiction can't help themselves unless they see what it is and so you want to be able to shake them and let them know how it's affecting you and you can say it until you're blue in the face but at the same time you can't go to your friends that know them and say you know this person really did me dirty today and this person made me feel like crap because it's not them it's the addiction it's you know it's over overtaking their their reality and so it's so hard you feel so isolated at that point especially as a single mom I switch careers and all that so please know that like and this is just me one drop in a bucket right please know that everybody else is feeling something along those lines and you guys sharing this it's not please don't feel guilty it helps us feel like we're

00:17:11 - 00:17:19 | Speaker 2:

human. Thank you, Alicia. We'll pray for you. Thank you. Ashley, what's up, Ashley? Hi.

00:17:20 - 00:17:44 | Speaker 5:

Hi, good morning. Morning. So I am an HR manager and my boss is the COO. And I think the best thing that I've ever learned from him is that whenever we have any call before anybody jumps into any work, we have a two minute check-in and it's a two minute personal check-in. And he has always been very real with us like you know i'm having a shitty day today okay that's okay trust

00:17:44 - 00:17:50 | Speaker 4:

me i've wanted to say it 10 times i'm so happy somebody got it out i'm so sorry um but it's it's

00:17:50 - 00:18:07 | Speaker 5:

nice you know it's refreshing having the team feel comfortable to just say you know what i'm really anxious today and you know i'm also a single parent of three and i co-parent 50 50 so the weeks i have my kids and i'm working full-time it gets a little bit stressful so for me to be I was like, you know what, guys? I'm feeling anxious today. I'm a little bit overwhelmed. That's so great.

00:18:08 - 00:18:11 | Speaker 2:

That's great to start off. I don't know.

00:18:11 - 00:18:28 | Speaker 4:

Wes does that with his team, his new team. And he said it's incredible to see just how close that brings you as a team. But how much better people feel at work because they feel like they're in a safe place. Safe place. Oh, my God. You know what I'm talking about. Safe space, safe place. Yeah.

00:18:28 - 00:18:29 | Speaker 1:

No, that's amazing.

00:18:29 - 00:18:31 | Speaker 4:

Don't worry that they're going to use that against you.

00:18:31 - 00:18:36 | Speaker 1:

I think that's the fear. that's why we don't do it well crap I'm screwed

00:18:36 - 00:18:37 | Speaker 4:

it happens

00:18:37 - 00:18:43 | Speaker 2:

I think that if they do I think that honestly it's not a place you want to work

00:18:43 - 00:18:44 | Speaker 6:

with or for

00:18:44 - 00:18:45 | Speaker 2:

what's up Jen

00:18:45 - 00:19:10 | Speaker 6:

I just want to tell Shannon that I know you go to church and everything so you need to remember that you can't have the testimony without the test so later on in life after you go through this and you become better for it for learning from it when you preaching that to somebody else this is what i've been through this is what i've done that's happened to me too i've been there this is your test you give your testimony and this

00:19:10 - 00:19:21 | Speaker 2:

will help somebody else i love that by the way your voice is so soothing i know i feel like i'm talking to uh a disney character or something i don't know this is amazing i think i'm talking

00:19:21 - 00:19:25 | Speaker 6:

to me and her both i'm going through it too so we all have it yeah but we can get through it

00:19:25 - 00:19:45 | Speaker 1:

together. Thank you. That's amazing. Thank you. Thank you. Look, planted and buried look the same. What? Planted and buried look the same. When you're planting something and you're burying something, that process is identical. It can look like you dig in and putting something deep inside, but what you don't see is what's being birthed. I think that's what she's talking about. Wow.

00:19:45 - 00:19:54 | Speaker 2:

That's so good, Kev. Yeah. Between Jen, you and Kev, and honestly, Shannon sharing this, a lot of people are going to walk away with something great today. We appreciate you.

00:19:56 - 00:19:57 | Speaker 6:

Love you guys. Have a great day.

00:19:57 - 00:19:58 | Speaker 2:

All right, take care.
