I'm Mange Shachigular, and I'm back with a new season of my podcast, Skyline Drive. This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, curmudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.

00:00:49 - 00:00:54 | Speaker 1:

I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.

00:00:54 - 00:01:00 | Speaker 6:

Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

Mojo in the Morning. Why is it that the women of the Mojo in the Morning show have so much trouble when it comes to self-tan?

00:01:23 - 00:04:16 | Speaker 5:

All of us, we need to just stop. We need to stop. The thing is, I, I go to get a spray tan if it's a big event. Like if we have, you know, a show event or photos or I'm going on vacation, I, and I will shout them out. Soul Potion is the place I've gone to forever and ever. Hi, Michelle, you're the best. But when it's just another day at home and I am feeling a little pasty, I will take matters into my own hands and I am done. I have learned my lesson. no longer will i do this so saturday i had the only thing i had all day was i had to be at central um i had to be at cmu for indoor uh states uh track for indoors oh my god states for indoor track jesus it's a monday nailed it wes's kids both went to states yes yes they did it was great it was great um so i like there wasn't a big event or anything but i woke up very earlier in the morning by the way i was up at five and i thought i'm looking a little pasty i always feel better if I have a little bit of like a glow to myself. So somebody had recommended these self-tan face drops to mix in with my moisturizer. Megan, and I say this to you because I know you know how this works. I mixed one drop with my moisturizer of this tanner. Put it on. And I think it was just dark in my bathroom. I was half asleep. I don't know. I noticed in the car that my face was getting darker, like orange, orangey browner as the car ride to Central went on. And I kept checking because it felt funny. I also think my allergies were acting up. So it wasn't helping that my face was pretty swollen. When I got there and met up with Wes because he had stayed the night with Samantha and Kieran the night before, he looked at me really funny. and his eyes got really big and he goes are you having an allergic reaction what happened to your face i ran into the bathroom and you guys it looked like i was orange but then had dark brown liver spots all over my face like an old person where the tanner didn't blend in i mean i looked absolutely ridiculous and truly as the day goes on and it starts to develop it was getting worse and worse and worse so i i oh my god it was so i could tell people were looking at me funny because it was very clear something was wrong and there was nothing i can do and i don't approve of this mojo in the morning message so i couldn't exfoliate it off like there was no coming back from this no but at no point did you go i should go wash my face uh i tried and the water was the water in the paper towel in the bathroom was not doing much for me did it like beat up on you it just wasn't doing anything i mean and every time wes turned to me and looked at me he just started laughing

00:04:16 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 2:

which didn't make it better he's like an orange dalmatian yeah so jealous that you didn't come

00:04:20 - 00:04:36 | Speaker 4:

into the studio like this because i'm always looking a hot mess with my tan around you i am notorious for having the worst hands ever when it comes to fake tans oh my god it's a dead giveaway every single time and i'm so mad that i didn't see this wes you can stop sending me

00:04:36 - 00:04:50 | Speaker 5:

gifts of the tan mom please like you guys it not only was i like orange but then where the moisturizer didn't blend in it was like the only thing that would have been worse and i i'm i'm

00:04:50 - 00:04:56 | Speaker 7:

sure they're they did fantastic but if wes's kids won states and you've got to take pictures with

00:04:56 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 5:

him he asked me to take a picture with his daughter in front of this step and repeat

00:05:00 - 00:05:20 | Speaker 2:

i had and i looked at him i was like that's funny i am not standing in any photos today no it was so bad i got home i took this exfoliator i scrubbed my face until it almost bled i don't finally came off okay tan lux hang on i want to tell you because no i don't want to get it wrong yeah

00:05:20 - 00:05:26 | Speaker 7:

that's what a listener just texted in and said lux tan drops tan lux the face do not use these

00:05:26 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 2:

They are no good.

00:05:30 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 7:

Wes is on the phone with us right now. Shannon's husband. Wes, how did Shannon look?

00:05:35 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 1:

She looked beautiful. No, that is not what.

00:05:38 - 00:05:40 | Speaker 2:

As he's laughing. It was so bad.

00:05:41 - 00:05:45 | Speaker 7:

I think only Kevin would be the only person that would be honest on that one that would say how bad it looked.

00:05:45 - 00:05:48 | Speaker 2:

No, he was honest. Trust me. He was honest.

00:05:48 - 00:05:59 | Speaker 1:

He was honest about it? Yeah. I was very honest because I couldn't look at her. It was like good light, bad light. We would walk outside. It would get worse. we go inside we go down the hallway we get better i was trying to have a serious conversation with

00:05:59 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 7:

him at lunch and he was like i'm so sorry i can't what is the reasoning of why you wanted to be tan

00:06:11 - 00:06:22 | Speaker 2:

for this like what were you it wasn't for that it was just some days you look in the mirror and go oh i could use some color i could use some color i could use a little bronzing but you're just

00:06:22 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 7:

You're going to be sitting in an arena watching.

00:06:25 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 2:

Like Wednesday. On a random Wednesday, I could come in here and be like, I'm just going to throw some self-canter on my face. There's no rhyme or reason. You just feel like you look pale.

00:06:33 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 7:

Wow. Well, dad is. You know what, Shannon? Yeah.

00:06:35 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 1:

What? No one looked at my socks that day. That was weird.

00:06:38 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 7:

Ah, there you go. Hair. Yes.

00:06:41 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 1:

You're a jerk.

00:06:42 - 00:07:09 | Speaker 7:

You know what? You are the butt of her jokes. What were they called? On things that you either wear or do. And I think that this is a good opportunity to keep this lingering a little bit. Right? let uh let it go see about in a week we'll find out dad of the century to driving back and forth uh to central man that's a that is a hike hike and a half um all right but we'll talk to you buddy take care of yourself hold on julia julia we love you too what's going on julia hi

00:07:09 - 00:07:27 | Speaker 4:

hey shannon i have to find it because i'm not at home but i do have a spray that i use just a couple spritzes and it does help you don't wash it off. The blue and yellow bottle? Yes. So Soul Potion makes one.

00:07:27 - 00:07:30 | Speaker 2:

And I love theirs. I just didn't have any more.

00:07:30 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 4:

It's their water mist. Their tanning mist. My niece told my daughter that same thing with those drops. She came down and I'm like, what happened to your face? Take that off. I didn't like those drops at all.

00:07:45 - 00:07:49 | Speaker 7:

This is definitely not a paid advertisement for those drops. What's up, Tiffany? How you doing?

00:07:50 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 6:

Hi. I was just going to give Shannon a little tip. So I do self-tanner sometimes at home, and I've actually taught my friends how to do it. The best way, if you're putting on self-tanner, is to actually blow dry wherever you put it, and then it will stick perfectly. It won't get deeper for you, and it will give you the result you want to get.

00:08:06 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 7:

So you put a blow dryer? Are you trying to set her up for something big? No.

00:08:10 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 6:

I do it at home, and I've done my friends. Yeah.

00:08:12 - 00:08:14 | Speaker 7:

Send us a picture. We want to see what you look like.

00:08:15 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 5:

uh sadie what's up hi hi so shannon i can totally relate to this um i was remodeling my bathroom and i knew i wasn't gonna have a shower for the weekend and like an idiot i decided to try a new self-tanner well i didn't read the directions and so i put it on and i went to bed and i woke up the next morning looking like a cheeto like i was so orange and i had no shower so the next morning in a pure panic i literally climbed in my kitchen sink like a toddler and bathed myself

00:08:50 - 00:08:58 | Speaker 7:

it was horrible oh my god that is so funny do this to ourselves i don't know what's up gina hi

00:08:58 - 00:09:15 | Speaker 3:

hey so i haven't heard anything from shannon like calling out her friend who gave her this recommendation like was her friend pissed at her and wanted to get back at her holy crap i mean like

00:09:15 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 2:

i think they're very popular so i think they work well if you use them right i just did not

00:09:22 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 3:

negative about it okay every single text is not good so i was thinking everybody's moisturizer is different chemically so yeah yours could have had a different chemical reaction but I'm still thinking your friend put you under the bus and ran you over.

00:09:40 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

And also, I met so many listeners at Central on Saturday. I probably looked like I was cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. I am so sorry if I met you. I looked like a monster. Do you use a gel or a cream moisturizer? A cream. Okay, because I use a gel and those drops never work in it because it just gets super streaky.

00:10:00 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 4:

I just love that. It's their first time meeting Shannon. They're like, wow, her pictures look a lot different. I was like, what's going on? It has to be a filter.
