I can't believe how crazy it is. I was talking to Luke, and Luke's going to be moving back to college here soon. Actually, you guys are going to be, Shannon, bringing off a first-timer to college.

Wes's son is going to college. Karen's getting ready to go to school.

He's going, like, in two weeks, I think, for moving him in. Yeah, freshman orientation, moving. Isn't that insane? It's crazy to us as we, like, prepare to do this. And he got his dorm assignment and he got his roommate, you know, assignment.

Is he rooming with people that he knows, like friends of his?

No, he went in blind. Okay. After much consideration, he decided to go in blind. And so he got, he has like kind of what Luke had, where he has a roommate, but then they share a bathroom with two other dudes.

Yes.

And so he got the name of the three other guys. And what's the first thing that Wes and I do? Google. Oh, we deep dive the heck out of these kids.

Isn't it amazing how much better it is nowadays than when we were younger, when we were going in to go to college? We had no clue how to look up these people. No clue.

I remember, I think I got the girl's instant messenger name that I was, because I went in blind too, freshman year. And we connected on AOL instant messenger.

Do you remember AOL instant messenger? Oh my God.

And coordinated our, because we wanted our room to have a theme, of course, a match.

So that's what we did. but um what do these guys look like because i mean it could get scary scary roommates one of

them looks cool one we can't really tell i think he's literally lying about everything he's told kieran like he said he's he's coming from china and he he like plays professional i don't know like everything that he said where i'm like this doesn't add up based on what google is telling me okay and then the other i think is adorable and nerdy and i love him already but kieran and west think he's going to be the quote-unquote weird one so last night west was like we can you tell bianca in the morning that we need her help and her online detective skills figuring out more

with past roommates joe's roommate was the best joe had one had three roommates he lived in a place with three guys in a dorm with three guys the one roommate did not speak the entire semester to anybody including us we would come up there we would you know go visit them at school and we'd bring you know pots and pans and all that stuff like we'd like joke just like just like you know we don't have this we don't have this and we would go and show up there and i would say hey how you doing and he would go it was like that that's weird it was wild and i remember he had two roommates tim and flynn and flynn and tim would go out

one of the most fun things as a parent is taking the kids out to eat Bianca did your parents do that too like when you'd go up there they'd take you and your friends out to go eat and stuff no they made me take the bus to school they never would come to town and like take you guys out somewhere wait sorry I couldn't hear you they would never come to East Lansing and take you out to like that what's the Mexican place down El Esteco L.S. Taco. Yes, Ibarrio Tacos is really good, too. Yeah, I love it. L.S. Taco, you can go and eat there for $12 and literally eat all of Mexico. No, they sent me on the Greyhound, though. I had a Greyhound my way to East Lansing. Oh, my gosh.

The one that's his actual roommate is the one that Wes and Kieran are like, he's going to be weird. I'm like, no, he's not. Which one is that? He's like kind of nerdy.

No. Or like his whole life story is, I think, a big lie, at least what he's telling. China looks a lot like Lake Orion.

I told Luke when we were going through the roommates and he was like trying to predict which one he was going to have as a weird one. I said, Luke, they're predicting you as the weird one.

Oh, for sure.

Did anybody ever have like a crazy first encounter with a roommate? I will tell you this, that the anxiety of living with somebody else is just like off the charts, especially with sharing bathrooms. Like that's one of the big ones because you're not only sharing – you're not sharing a bathroom with one. You're sharing a bathroom with many in a lot of cases in some of these dorms like in uh in at michigan state luke had four guys to a bathroom see we had an entire hall where it was like end of the hall like yes it was basically like going to a plan of fitness

30 girls in one bathroom yeah in my freshman dorm that sounds like a dream to kevin 30 girls

in one bathroom i think that's what it was i um i will tell you this that uh luke commented that one of his roommates would stay in the bathroom all freaking morning like would be in there and I don't know if he had, like, bowel obstruction or something. Like, I don't know. A little bit of Crohn's disease. A little Crohn's disease, I don't know.

Something, something.

But he'd be in the bathroom all morning. And Luke said that there were times where he was like, oh, I got to go. And then he ended up, I think Luke ended up just staying at his girlfriend's house the rest of the semester.

Is it hard to change roommates? Like, when you get in these situations where you do find somebody that's either crazy or you don't get along with them. Like, what's that process?

I don't know. I think the universities always discourage that stuff.

Like, you got to deal with it. Unless it's a really, really bad situation.

but if you just don't get along with the person you got your stock that's crazy yeah um which i hope is not the case for him i think i didn't go to college and like live in the dorm type situation but i remember i used to go to michigan state a lot we had a lot of friends used to party up there a lot of girls we knew so we used to go up there hang out i remember the first i think it was the hubbard dorms i think that's what it was we went into this girl dorm and i opened up one door and it was like a bathroom in the middle yeah that was crazy to me the first time i saw i was like All y'all just shower in this one little, like, so those people over there come here too? That blew my mind.

Yeah.

That was crazy to me.

To me, it was weird too to get out of a shower and to have to like put shower shoes on or something because you couldn't really like how you do it at home or in your, wherever you live. You couldn't just get dressed and walk out in front of people.

That was crazy.

One of the other things I remembered with Luke, and this is a big one with Karen, you got to do this. And I know they discourage it, but you got to do it. But Wes has got to go to like Walmart today and buy one of the air conditioning units for the dorm. Because with the temperatures that we've just had, and Wes, I know you're going to go, I'm going to let him tough it out. Do not let him tough it out. Because I'm going to tell you, it will make it miserable. Go buy the damn thing. It's probably 500 bucks. You'll use it, you know, for the next couple of years. And honestly, you'll probably sell it on Facebook Marketplace for 500 bucks. It basically plugs in. It's an air conditioning mobile unit, and he will be the kid of the room when he shows up with that thing. Because for Luke, they went the first few weeks without something like that, and then you can't find them. And you have to buy them here in town and not up in the college towns because it sells out. They sell out instantly.

in the college town places yeah so you got to go as far away from a college you possibly can and it's so damn hot can you imagine no i would never be able to sleep oh my god i would uh-uh and like i said the university doesn't want you to use it because they don't want you using all that energy you know what i mean yeah but i'm like one of those big believers that it's like you know what screw you i pay my taxes and my tuition and my tuition and if i'm paying my taxes in my tuition, I'm going to feel as cold as possible. Texture here says, Shannon, usually the weirdest roommate, is the nicest.

That's what I said.

So don't worry about that.

I go, he's going to be, I guarantee he's going to be your best friend for life.

That's 248. And you judged. 810 says, I went to Michigan State also. I don't know what dorm that Karen's living in, but one of the things you got to realize is that is a long walking campus. That is, by the way, Bianca, what's the furthest you ever had to walk? Or would you Uber to classes? Because that's a big campus.

So actually, I plan my stuff out correctly. So I got the dorm directly center campus. So everything was like 10 minutes.

How do you plan it out correctly? Don't they normally just give you their?

No, because I went through COVID years. So it was like you got to choose. You got three dorms to choose from. But now they don't do that. I got lucky.

You can Uber to class. Yeah. People do that. I've done that a couple of times.

Oh, yeah. Yeah. And do you see, have you walked on that campus at all?

I don't think so. My sister went to stay. I think I went once or twice, but I'm not familiar with the campus at all.

I learned this on the walking tour, which, by the way, nobody ever told me I needed a walking tour, but it's the largest square footage land campus in the country for college campuses. And if you're at, what was the dorms that Luke lived in his freshman year?

Didn't he live in Acres?

Acres. It was like the furthest from anything part there. It was awful. Another one here, 419. My first roommate was a dude who stayed for about two months before leaving. The weirdest part about him was that he would stay in the bathroom for three hours every single day. What are you doing for three hours every single day? What are you doing?

Also, how great would it be to only have a roommate for two months and then you have a room to yourself the entire rest of the time?

God, that would be, honestly, the best ever. This one's 248. 248 says, went to Grand Valley and lived with a girl who every single night hacked up a lung. Oh, wait, that was in my throat. What would you have a harder time with? Would you have a harder time with, and I'll give you a choice of roommates. Okay. The roommate that's in the bathroom all the time. the roommate that is excessively loud snoring or the roommate that brings her boyfriend or his girlfriend and is basically banging all night in their bed. That would be the one?

Yeah. That last one. It's either that one or the snoring one.

Really? Yeah. I think the bathroom one. I don't know about you guys, but I need my bathroom when I need my bathroom.

You can spray. The only thing with the bathroom, I would be more concerned with the smell. Really? Like, that's the thing. Like, how bad is this smell?

Yeah. I don't know.

You can only do so much Febreze or Lysol where it just, it doesn't work.

See, when I have to go to the bathroom, I want to go to the bathroom. And that's the thing is, you know, I had six brothers and sisters. So I had a lot of them. So going away to school and not having, and fighting for a bathroom, I had to do that as a kid all the time. So I went to Western, and we went in blind, which just basically meant you sent you, this was in the mid-'90s, so you filled out a questionnaire, and they tried their best to, like, meet you or match you up with the people that made sense. Sure. And her parents called my parents to make sure that I was a good person and that I had good morals. And then when we showed up on the first day, this person could not.

be further from morally grounded and she actually said i'm from parma and in parma there's nothing to do we farm or f and i don't farm and i don't farm she sounds amazing god i wish i wish on the

show you could actually say the word because we farm or f i know exactly what word you're saying

but that it was terrifying and we ended up being very good friends but she was very very

promiscuous wait so that was the question that i asked these guys what would be the worst roommate is it bad when they're constantly bringing people back to the room oh it's awful and then you used

to have to buy lofts from these loft companies and so it was basically just one connected bed frame yeah so you'd be on one side of the room sleeping and they'd be on the other room you know other side doing whatever they were doing yeah thank you for the call emily go broncos by the

yes um yeah so i went to msu um many years ago um and that was my second roommate um in the dorm as you know we're just different personalities we didn't really get along um but we were cordial and uh yes she decided to get out of it by accusing me of making death threats on campus

oh my god yeah so she was trying to get out of rooming with you so she lied about you to

to make you get in trouble yeah she like she didn't like my friends um and when my friends had uh he had like a pocket knife you know perfectly legal on campus and we were looking at it and then she went to uh the ra and told him that we were making threats to students to like stab them and shoot them so we had to go through i had to go through housing court his room got searched by the police um oh my god i had to go through housing court which was actually kind of fun because I was, like, really into law and order at the time, so I had to, like, present my case. Oh, really? I called witnesses, yeah, but it was a whole thing. I had to go through three separate, like, the student court, the housing court, and the academic court just to be able to stay on campus, which I was cleared. She moved out. I had a, you know, dorm room for myself for a while, and then I met somebody else who had a crazy roommate, and so she ended up moving in with me, and it was great. It became a really good fun.

Oh, thank goodness. Yeah, that's a horrible situation to have to deal with. Brian, you went to Ferris. What did you have happen to you?

Hey, Ferris? Yeah, I went to Ferris. And so we had, like, the shared rooms. So two in a room, two in a room. And in the other room, the guy was in the automotive program, so he brought a whole engine in our bathroom. So one day I went to go, you know, shower, and I see an engine in there, and I'm like, dude, you've got to get this engine out of here. Like, I'm getting clean in here. I'm not, I don't want an engine in here.

about your old college roommate um so i went to adrian college and my roommate was like a goody two shoes went to bed by a certain time and then i was like the partier that went out all night okay he would lock me out of our she would lock me out of our room if i wasn't back by a certain time and i mean like putting a chair under the door even if i had a key i could not open my door I would have to sleep in, like, the common area room or find someone's room to sleep in. Like, 10 p.m. No, I was always very quiet, very nice. She just said that she had a bedtime of 10 p.m., and if I wasn't back by then, I couldn't be in the room.

Well, my baby boy, and I'm a big-time, like, mama bear kind of mom, you know, was Fire Up Chips, went to Central Michigan, and loved that great experience. yeah um and and you know we kind of live in an isolated world down the river and he had at the time no gay friends so um but you know he's very open-minded he was you know he'd be cool about it but you know um two roommates two out of the four were gay uh which freaked him out a little bit but yeah and unfortunately um it was his uh he'd never seen a sex toy before and one of the roommates brought a whole bag full of Can I say what they are? Well, I went in blind as well, and on move-in day, I get there, and she had a cage with two pet rats.

No, she hid them in the closet. Oh, my God. The first night, she didn't come home, and I couldn't sleep all night because I heard them making noise, and I was freaking out they were going to get out and crawl on me.

It was awful. I would have just about died.
