It's not T-Ball. It's coach pitch this year.

He's moved up. Last year was T-Ball. Okay. This year is coach pitch. But Smith-Lyle's dedication to the sport has remained the same from year to year. And that dedication is very low. Oh, really? You guys, it's so funny. Please, please, please promise me you will come to one of his games one time. I'd love it. Some of his teammates, and by the way, Smith is five, almost six, okay? So just to give you some backstory here. Some of his teammates are really into it. You can tell their parents really push them to know what they're doing, and they're practicing in the backyard after dinner at home. We don't really do that. perhaps it's apparent because last night he was playing left field and then he was playing third base at one point and my sweet five-year-old spent the majority of his time not catching balls but drawing things in the dirt throwing his glove up in the air and catching it and at one point actually ran away from where he was supposed to be watching third base um across totally across the baseball diamond to me sitting right there holding out his glove and i said smith smith what you do and you got to go back and he goes mom look i made homemade muck in my baseball club i'm like go back to third base but i have a great video by the way i'll have to post it on our

so the coach is busy doing that and then there's another coach out there who will say smith smith come on pay attention pay attention um but sometimes he's you know he can't just watch And I don't want to be the mom that's yelling from the sidelines, Smith, stand up. I did that twice last night and I was like, Smith. And I kind of made the motion for him to stand up. But yeah, he's just in his own little world and he's real happy about it.

It's funny, Jacob was that for us. Jacob was a really good athlete, but he hated sports and he still does. But he would be out there on the field and next thing you know, they would go, where's the right fielder? And he'd be like, on the swing sets? Yes. Playing on them? Yeah. I remember Chelsea one time, we were over at the park right by our house, and Chelsea one time was dealing with Luke, who was a baby at the time, and she's having to run and get him off the swings because the balls are getting hit to his position, which is no longer out there in the outfield.

Yes. Yep. I was always jealous of the girls that could make dandelion crowns out in the outfield. Yes. And I was like, can you go make me one?

Oh, my gosh.

At the end of the game, all the little girls would have low crowns. Yeah, like anything but actually participating in the game. Now, mind you, he's great when he's at bat, but if his team's not, I don't even know the lingo, up to bat or whatever, he is, you can tell I'm a great sports parent.

But he is just not.

Honestly, I don't know if it's just maybe it's a baseball thing because baseball is kind of boring. But I think that there's other things that happens in sports where your kid just doesn't want to be there. Have you ever seen a kid in karate that doesn't want to be there? No. So we put Joe in karate. And there was a kid that was in Joe's karate class that was there. And it was Taekwondo. And it was this guy in West Bloomfield that had his Taekwondo thing off of Walnut Lake. Really nice guy. And the guy was really serious about it. Like he, it was like karate kid thing, man. It was like sensei, you had to call him sensei or whatever the whole deal is. And this one kid literally would punch him in the nuts to get out of class because he didn't, he didn't want to do that. And, but the problem is that mom and dad were just trying to keep the kid active. What's up, Robin?

Well, I used to work for Ra Ra in Rochester as a young, you know, in my early 20s and these podium leagues like age five and six and and i'm telling you you had to make up your own rules and umpiring too because every hit would be a home run because they could never throw

Like, oh, there's a ball. Hold on, it's a ball. And it's like, oh, yeah. Because she literally, even in T-ball, she's like wanting to play around in the sand. And then she's great at batting, but catching? Yeah. She wants to be out there. Let me check the grass, Mom. Oh, yes. At one point, I saw him. He was doing this dance. And you can't see it, but I'm doing it for Mojo. Yeah. And he came off, and I went to go give him his water bottle. I go, what were you doing out there? And he goes, Mom, all the pretty girls walk like this. And I'm like, oh, my God. No. You're just like, no.

And you're just like, it's fun.

Can I tell you something that one of the teams did that we played against that was really smart? One of the parents realized the kids didn't want to do it, so they made it fun for them during the game. So they did walk-up music for the kids. See, that is so smart. And then they played music in between, you know, innings, and the kids were into it.

Maybe I could do that. You should do that.

Ask every kid what they want for walking music. Yeah. Bring, like, a little Bose speaker or something. I have a huge speaker in my, yeah. What's up, Crystal?

Hey, what's up? You know, it's really funny. My daughter's 27 now, but she was five years old. Her sister's a track star, and she was running in with the little kids, and it was in Raleigh-Durham, 100-something degrees, in the stands. She's running, got her little number on. Next thing we know, she ran past the coach, off the track, up into the stand, sat down and said, you know what, me and my mother, I'm not doing this no more. I quit. She said, you know what, I'm done. She literally just ran off the track, past the coach. She's like, what are you doing? She said, I quit.

That's my kind of kid. Jill, what did your kid do?

so she was on a team opposing her best friend who was covering second base and my daughter was running from first to second base and her friend saw her and she got off the base and went running toward her and they met and just hugged and hugged and the coaches are yelling dagger dagger

that's great actually that's always the best too i always realize when the kids play each other in and they're at the same school, and they're opposing each other, and they don't even care about the game. It's like you might as well just have a play date at home, and it's so much more fun and easier. Cassidy, Shannon's son, Smith, is that kid in Little League. What's up?

Hi. When my daughter was in first grade kindergarten, we started putting her in sports, and soccer is where she wanted to start. And when they'd have to run for the ball, nope, she'd lay down. It was time to take a nap. Perfect. Perfect response to any athletic activity.
