secret well I didn't I truly did not mean to bust him by the way I like know nothing about this guy so um Wes my fiance grew up in Toronto he is a Canadian and one of his childhood friends was in town this week from Canada and Wes hasn't seen him in a couple of years so he was really excited not only to catch up with him but for he and I to finally meet each other um so this guy and I don't want to name him um because he does have family here but he brought along his girlfriend of like three or four months with him and he let Wes know beforehand that he really liked this girl you know he could see it some you know going somewhere so he's like be nice please be on your best behavior we grabbed drinks we had to dinner afterwards and I don't know if it was the wine that made me so curious or if I was simply channeling my inner mojo um but I started to ask this guy all sorts of questions at dinner like you love interviewing people and that's what I was doing no mind you I I'd never met him before and I wanted to learn more about him because like I said he's you know Wes has had such a history with him I knew he had two kids um two older kids he was with a woman either like a high school sweetheart or a college sweetheart and they had kids really young so one of the questions I asked him was I said oh so were you guys married like were you married and then you got divorced the look on this guy's face everybody got quiet and he said yes yes they were married and he is now divorced well his girlfriend gasps and yelled you never told me that you were married I had no idea like that was a big secret was she upset She was very, very visibly upset. I felt terrible. Nobody had told me not to ask that question. For whatever reason, that information was not known before this evening. I was quiet. Wes was quiet. The guy got really quiet. The girlfriend's just glaring at him. It was so uncomfortable. And I felt like the biggest idiot. But again, I didn't know that there were questions on a list that were not supposed to be asked.

Right. And by the way, I said to Wes, we got in the car to go home and I'm like, you know, isn't that something that you, you, especially if you see a future with somebody after three, four months, that that's part of the conversation. Like she knows that you have kids. I don't see what the big deal was in her knowing that he was.

Do you think that you think, though, that she asked him and he lied?

But then why tell me the truth? You don't know me.

Okay, so at what point of the time that you were together? Because you said you're drinking, but was that drinks before dinner, drinks during dinner, or drinks after?

We had drinks during dinner, and then we went to dinner. And by the way, we weren't like boozing. I mean, we had a drink or two, and then went to dinner and had a drink.

At what point of the evening that you guys were together, did this happen?

We were waiting for our food.

Oh, so then we had to sit through. Was she quiet during the dinner?

Oh, my gosh. And she was very kind. I really liked her. She was very sweet. But after this, I felt like I didn't even want to talk anymore.

Why do people keep that secret? Like, my dad did that to us. Like, we found out later that my dad had been married before he married my mom. And for some reason, I mean, maybe it was just a religious thing or whatever, the Catholic crap that they were dealing with. But they never told us. And then my brother found out years later. But people nowadays, you would think that divorce is so much more common. You know, like, why would you lie about that? Like, why would somebody not tell somebody that they've been married before?

Go ahead, Megan. Sorry. Two of my aunts and uncles have done this. And I didn't realize that they had both been married before until we were in high school. And that means, like, their kids, too, did not know that their parents had been married before until high school. That, to me, was crazy.

Yeah, and the thing was, this girl was going to meet his kids the following day. And again, they're older. I think one's in high school and one is in college. Like, they're not going to say anything to her. The whole thing was just so weird.

like holy crap no he wasn't upset at all didn't wes know that he had been married before um i don't know if he knew like enough to tell you don't say anything mirror I that's actually a really good question he was not mad at me or anything but he was like what the heck was that like it

was so just strange it was what's up Allie hey so my girlfriend and her well now husband have been married since November no one knows but me and my boyfriend they got married in Colorado So it's in a different state for someone to just look it up in Michigan. And they're living life. So why do they want to keep it a secret, though? So during COVID, her husband lost his dad. And they were actually stuck in a different country while losing him. So they just kind of kept it a secret so they could all grieve.

Yes, about my, when I turned 18, it was told to me and my younger brother and my sister that our mom was married before our dad and had a child.

But why did they not say anything to you for that long of a period of time?

I have no idea. No idea. Yeah, I know that my parents' relationship was not the best, and it was safer for my older sister to be with her birth father, with her father. So they lived in another state, and nothing was ever done my whole childhood.

I found out that my dad was married when I was into my 20s, and actually I was already married. My parents it was us We found out after my dad had passed away That But they secretly got married before her parents knew because he was in the military. Okay. So then she let us know.
