This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first time I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. But the sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be, and I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department, and I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. All right, it is mojo in the morning. I was sitting in Tony, our boss's office yesterday and just having a quick conversation with him and talking a little bit about he just got a new car. So he was he bought a yeah, he bought a new car, got a pre-owned vehicle and got bought the thing. And he was talking about like all the stuff that he was getting for it. And I had said to him, I go, do you know, do you get like winter mats and stuff? Because I'm like one of those people that I love winter mats. You know what I mean by that?

Who says that? No, have you ever heard him talk about weather tech? No. Is that what brand you like?

I do. These weather tech mats are like the greatest thing ever.

Are you serious? They're laser cut. I know it sounds- Don't get them started.

I know it sounds like- They're leather. They're weird.

So you play that nerd drop a lot? This is the moment. This is not nerdy. This is functionality. My weather tech. My winter mats. Says the man who has the dirtiest car out of all of us. I do. It's like literally, you know, go take- You took it over to go get fixed over by the guys over at Zot and Jeff Schneider over at Zot Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram says to me, he goes, I don't know if I'd ever put this guy in one of our loaner cars. He would destroy the thing. Oh, y'all chatting? I did. I was chatting with him. Oh, okay. All right. So let me get back to Tony for a second here. So we're talking about this and he says, yeah, I just bought this. And I go, where'd you buy it? And I think in Amazon. He goes, I was on eBay. And I'm like, oh, okay. And then he told me that he bought another thing he could buy us on eBay. And as I said, another one, he goes and buys it on eBay. And I kind of give him a weird look. He goes, why are you giving me weird looks every time I say that I bought it on eBay? And I said, I don't know. And then he goes, what? And I go, I've never been on eBay before. He found it so surprising and so shocking that I have never, ever bought anything or been on to even search eBay. Are you kidding? Ever in my life. No, I never do it. And I'm going to tell you that I have zero interest in doing it.

Even, like, all the sports stuff you collect or, like, you collect, you love old radio microphones and stuff. You don't go on there for that?

No, I don't buy any of that stuff on eBay or buy any of that there because I'm just, first off, I've never been, I don't know why I don't. I have no explanation. Maybe I've often thought that I don't want to have to meet somebody in a parking lot or something like that. You don't. It's shipped. It's all shipped. I know. But I never did. And so Tony says, this would be a good topic. You should bring this up. Like, things that other people have done that nobody else has done. And I said to him, I go, Tony, I don't think that that's shocking. I think it'd be shocking if I said I've never been a person that ordered on Amazon. Like, I think that would be more shocking than the eBay thing, because I think Amazon is more universal than that.

Well, I have a girlfriend who has never ordered on Amazon. And so if she.

needs something she just asks she sends me a link and asks me to order it i don't know actually i just i just order for her and she venmo's me did you know she's never ever ordered ever

on it or she does not even have an amazon account okay because sometimes people don't don't have a current account because they i don't know something happened to them but i but i just do as i'm told so we're we're we're having this camera and he thinks this is a good topic and i'll be honest with you i think the topic is kind of mediocre but i but with that said i did say to him i go it would be interesting like when i have talked to grown adults and grown adults will tell me that they never have had their driver's license and i'm like oh okay that's seems kind of weird to me like that or somebody that says that they've never been in a walmart you know what i mean like i've never been in a walmart like if you say that to me i'm going okay You might be bougie. Who knows? Maybe you only shop at, you know, the nice stores.

I think that I met somebody recently who has never been on an airplane. And it wasn't because they were fearful. And it wasn't like they couldn't afford a plane ticket. They just, everywhere that they've ever gone, they've driven. So they've never even been to an airport aside from, actually, I don't even think I asked him if he had ever picked anybody up, but had never been on an airplane. And was my age.

That would not surprise me only because I know people, and actually some of them are big family friends of ours, that have never traveled outside of the state.

For sure.

So they've only been in the state.

My name is Natarika Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday.
