As you're getting ready to take your kids to school, you're maybe right now in a car drop-off line. uh josiah's got an issue and you're wondering if you should step in and try to take care of some

things yeah i need some help um so help uh josiah is at a school that is prior

prioritizing the arts and that is the reason why we chose this particular school is because josiah is a visual artist he loves to draw he loves to animate this is why we selected this particular educational institution so josiah for the past week and a half has been blessed with the opportunity to join an after-school art program and he loves it tuesday wednesday thursday that's where he is he's loved it for this week and a half his mom gets an email from the woman who runs the art program now with this middle school it is attached and is in a partnership with the college for creative studies so the person that is running the program is not quote unquote directly involved with the school josiah goes to but they're directly involved with the college for creative studies so josiah's mom gets an email that says basically we've had this overwhelming response we have all of these children who we've admitted to the program but it's too many kids so a lot of the kids Josiah included quote-unquote will be wait-listed you're no longer able to go to the program in its current time frame we're gonna push those kids and hopefully they'll be admitted in January once we start things up for the winter program but he's already been to a week and a half of it facts that's my first thought it's like okay what now Josiah's mom has had the conversation with the girl already to like figure out like what kind what's going on but it's still very unsettling to me and then also to Josiah who loves this program who's made friends in this program and you know has confidence in the ability to do something that he loves to do and but I don't want to be the overbearing parent I want to be involved and obviously like I love my child and I want to fight for him but I'm not trying to like quote-unquote raise holy hell in this school and like excuse me like what's like you know what I mean like I don't want to go that far so I'm trying to figure out like how do I kind of navigate this because I don't want to just leave it up and like Josiah just like he views it like I didn't fight

for him do teachers or administrators hold it against the parent that goes to school and fights for their kid uh or do they look at that as okay you know I would do that for my kid because I you're so you're saying that you don't know if you want to be the one to step in and cause any problems because his mom already has stepped up and asked questions?

Yeah, I mean, that's a piece of it.

Or because you're worried that the school people will hold it against you or hold it against Josiah?

I mean, that as well. All of the above, so to speak.

I don't think there's anything wrong, though, with going to the school. And you don't need to raise hell. You just need to ask the question of, help me understand why my son, who has already been a part of this program for a week and a half, like, how did you choose who gets to stay in the program that's been running or who gets bumped to January because maybe they have an answer that makes sense.

So the answer was, so the answer was there was, there's a signup sheet that they email out. Okay. First come first serve type of thing.

But in my mind, only have 20 spots, our arbitrary number only have 20 available spots. So once the 20 is signed up, then the list is cut off. Right. I don't, I don't know if it's because of funding, but they said all of these kids signed up and it's too many kids basically. so we need to wait list the kids that signed up later and the kids that signed up earlier, they're going to be admitted.

But he was already told that he was going?

He's already been. He's already been a week and a half. Hair in the butt.

What was it again? I was going to send like an edible arrangement. An edible... And it's crazy because I went in there. Here's the crazier thing. Josiah's mom called. The email got sent out yesterday at I think 2.30. The program starts at 5.30. He gets out there at 3.30. So they sent the email an hour before he got out of school and said, oh, by the way, everything that I just said, so he has to be picked up at 3.30. So he's going to school with the idea, like, I'm going to stay after. I'm going to go through my program. So when I go in and I pick him up, the lady, like, how are you? I'm like, I'm all right. So again, I'm giving attitude. I need to send the edible arrangement again.

Do you think that if you would have sent that edible arrangement? Because did you ever send the edible arrangement or not? No, you were going to. If you would have sent the edible arrangement, Josiah would have been one of the kids in that program. I think you need to tell Josiah's mom because she told you not to send the edible arrangement. If you would have sent it, you would have ended up getting Josiah in there. Maybe. It would have worked.

But it's a whole different kind of school, though. Because it's CCS that's running the actual program.

I think you should get with a couple of the other parents and go to a school board meeting and sit down and have this discussion in front of the officials who probably don't even know this is happening. That's why those meetings are there, to express your concern over what the school is doing or not doing. I think that's what you should do. so i was just uh gonna suggest to kev that um if you or josiah's mom have the time i'm sure you're not the only parents who feel this way like the last caller said um i would like get a petition together and or get the teacher to get with the teacher and offer to volunteer to help accommodate the large class sizes to i imagine that's probably the issue that they're running into is the amount of teachers that they have per students because there is like michigan state laws of in accordance like only x amount of students can be per teacher but why would they but why would they not have

known that before they told him that he was already in. I don't get that. You know what I'm talking about? I think the problem is not obviously they do have their amount of kids that they can take and I get that and Kev got that when he signed Josiah up. They could have just easily said, I'm sorry you're not going. But why would they tell a kid? It's like giving a kid a Christmas gift and then telling them that you got to take it back because they can't play with it.

It's not like you're going in and you're yelling at them and, you know, telling them things that you don't like. You're trying to find out why this is happening to Josiah. And if it's a good school, and obviously it is if you trust sending your kids there, the educators are not going to take it out on your child. And if they do, then they should not be in the business of education because what a parent does, you should not punish a child for and like the last caller said it could be because maybe they didn't expect all these kids to sign up so now they're in a spot where okay we have all these kids and we only have one teacher or one person or two people to help out so i would suggest going in and asking
