This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, curmudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.

00:01:33 - 00:01:38 | Speaker 3:

I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.

00:01:38 - 00:01:44 | Speaker 2:

Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:02:12 - 00:02:21 | Speaker 5:

How many shows do I have to fill in before we change that? And it says, Joe, well, hand over your punch card.

00:02:21 - 00:02:24 | Speaker 4:

I get one. Five shows and you get a new name.

00:02:24 - 00:02:37 | Speaker 5:

Amazing. Yeah, so it is a little crossover, Mojo in the Morning with the Joe Show. I am Joe filling in for my dad, who was a little under the weather after last night. A lot under the weather?

00:02:37 - 00:02:41 | Speaker 8:

He was a lot under the weather. I felt so bad for him. He was trying so hard.

00:02:41 - 00:02:42 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, he was struggling.

00:02:42 - 00:02:45 | Speaker 8:

And he was so looking forward to last night, too.

00:02:45 - 00:03:09 | Speaker 4:

And unlike all you schmoes Who just drank too much Stayed out too late He was legitimately sick So Some people come in here With no voices this morning Ashley What? But some people went to the casino late And had other extracurricular activities Yeah And I'm glad Was I Shannon Were you and I The only responsible ones Who were like Out the door Megan Megan left before

00:03:09 - 00:03:10 | Speaker 7:

I think I was the last one

00:03:10 - 00:03:11 | Speaker 4:

Hold on one second

00:03:11 - 00:03:14 | Speaker 7:

I was the last one to leave The venue

00:03:14 - 00:03:27 | Speaker 5:

I was super responsible when they told they were like, hey, by the way, you got to fill in for your dad and mind you This is a completely different experience than anything I've ever had in my job. I'm freaking the hell out I didn't even like it. No, I was they didn't even invite me

00:03:27 - 00:03:39 | Speaker 9:

I felt so bad. We had FaceTime call before all this or whatever and then two seconds later They're like hey, you want to go to the casino? I feel so bad. We didn't tell Joe Oh, but I feel like if we told dad he's gonna be like no stay inside

00:03:39 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 10:

So we didn't tell dad credit because EJ last night called me and was like we're going to the casino

00:03:44 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 5:

I was like, I'm in bed, my makeup is off, leave me alone. I felt bad. Just about a shower.

00:03:49 - 00:04:18 | Speaker 4:

I was, Mike and I carpooled, and we had Meg and Allie with us, and I said, we gotta leave. There's two Backstreet Boys songs, like, we have to leave. We have to be in our car when they say goodnight, because we have to be in bed. I'm, like, all the way up the lodge, almost home, and I go, oh, my God, was I supposed to drive Megan home? Oh, my God, and I start having a panic attack. Did I leave Megan on the curb? And I thought, no, she didn't say anything all night. I think she had her car. I don't remember.

00:04:18 - 00:04:19 | Speaker 8:

I could have taken her home, too.

00:04:19 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 4:

Oh, my gosh. I panicked.

00:04:21 - 00:04:22 | Speaker 5:

Shannon, when did you get home?

00:04:22 - 00:04:24 | Speaker 8:

I got home at 1230.

00:04:24 - 00:04:34 | Speaker 5:

Because we need to talk about you right now. And 844-665-6548, 844-MOJO-LIVE. But Shannon, Smith.

00:04:34 - 00:05:29 | Speaker 8:

Wait. Oh, I was like, what did I do? No. I did not do anything. okay so um if you are a parent in the car actually know what you don't need to because this is a great story about the tooth fairy okay so my little smith who's five and a half just lost his very first tooth teeth i know you love your smith teeth gross me out okay so he's like wiggling it and wiggling it and We'll be right back.

00:05:00 - 00:05:19 | Speaker 3:

It comes out at school and he is so incredibly excited to put it under his pillow and for the tooth fairy to visit and give him his dollar. That's what we do in our house. First tooth is a dollar. Second tooth is $2. Third tooth is $3. And so on. Lucy is up to $9 at this point. She's going to make some money. It's $260 for last year.

00:05:19 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 2:

She figured it out.

00:05:21 - 00:06:09 | Speaker 3:

His teacher, so sweet, gives him this little itty bitty baby tooth in a Ziploc bag and staples it to a certificate that says like, I lost my first tooth and it has all his information on it and whatever. So proud. He's carrying that Ziploc baggie with him with the tooth in it all day. Comes time for him to go to bed. Um, and I said to him, where, where is the tooth? Because we wrote a letter to the tooth fairy and we were going to put it in an envelope to put under his pillow. And he looked at me with this blank stare and I go, dude, you got to go get your tooth. You You've got to put your tooth in the thing. He goes, I don't know where it is. And I said, what do you mean? Where's the Ziploc baggie? And he said, well, the bag's here. He took the little teeny tiny tooth out of the bag, and it was lost somewhere in my house.

00:06:10 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 4:

Do you think he was putting it back in his mouth? No.

00:06:11 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 3:

I don't know what he was doing with it, but talk about a needle in a haystack. We are searching. Lucy and I had to search my entire house for a tooth That's half the size of my pinky toenail. Is your toenail called your pinky toenail? Sure. Your baby toenail.

00:06:29 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 4:

I like the way that sounds. Okay. I think that makes sense.

00:06:31 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 3:

I mean, we were in like a sheer panic. So he literally lost his tooth and then lost his tooth.

00:06:40 - 00:06:48 | Speaker 5:

Oh, my gosh. And the panic ensues because then you have to start thinking, what am I going to tell? You know, the tooth fairy needs something or do I need a substitute?

00:06:48 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 3:

The tooth fairy usually wants to save that first tooth, right? It's very important to her. So, yeah, I mean, it was big to do. Finally found it. Wedged in between a crack in the tile of my bathroom floor and the molding of my bathroom sink. I don't know how. By the grace of God, I found this little thing.

00:07:06 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 2:

I also think it's pretty weird that the tooth fairy decides to keep the first tooth. No.

00:07:11 - 00:07:14 | Speaker 3:

The first one. No, no, no. I think she really, she cherishes that.

00:07:15 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 5:

The first one's special. It's the. Yeah. Some tooth fairies are weird and they keep the whole mouth full of teeth. And I think that's a little strange tooth fairies. I keep them in my fridge. Exactly.

00:07:25 - 00:07:26 | Speaker 4:

I didn't allow the Tooth Fairy.

00:07:26 - 00:07:35 | Speaker 2:

When I bought my house, the Tooth Fairy left behind a bag of teeth. Oh, really? Yeah. So I found the Tooth Fairy's stash.

00:07:35 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 3:

Oh, she didn't need them in her castle. What was wrong with your teeth? Right. She's like, here, take them back.

00:07:41 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 4:

Do you guys remember when my little brother Luke wrote the ransom note to the Tooth Fairy?

00:07:46 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 3:

No.

00:07:46 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 4:

So maybe just Smith needs to write a note next time.

00:07:50 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 3:

Well, he did write a note.

00:07:51 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 4:

Oh, he did?

00:07:52 - 00:08:27 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. Well, his note was like really sweet. When Lucy loses her teeth, she writes, please pay me. It's smart. That is. He got his dollar. He's good. A dollar? A dollar. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You're not listening to what I said. He didn't hear it. Listen, for the first tooth, it's a dollar. Yeah, no, no, no, no. Listen! Second tooth, it's $2. Third tooth, it's $3. By the 20th tooth, the kid's getting $20 from the tooth fairy. I'm not losing no teeth in Shannon House because the tooth berry is cheap over there. The tooth berry is very cheap over there. I don't know what type of payment system they're on there. Spike roasted me for it being too much.

00:08:27 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 5:

I roasted her because in the end, you're paying way too much. No kid should be getting handed a $30 bill when they're five years old. Like, what are you doing with all this money for... And then you're also... It's putting so much pressure now for every other tooth that they lose. It's stupid. Let me tell you something.

00:08:43 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 3:

We read the Berenstain Bears in our house, okay? They get a quarter. So that's what he wanted was a quarter. Yeah, but an equation. He got a dollar.

00:08:50 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 5:

Mercy Bears was written, like, in the 40s. Shut up. I've got to have a conversation with Smith to give him some more money.

00:08:56 - 00:09:03 | Speaker 4:

100%. Hey, Crystal, Crystal, you had to search for the tooth as well, like Shannon and the tooth fairy.

00:09:04 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 1:

Yes. My son lost his first tooth at school, and I had a newborn at the time. So we had to go back to his school and search the floor of his classroom. It took about a half an hour.

00:09:18 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 3:

It was all fun, yeah

00:09:20 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 1:

So it was like a tragedy We had to just hurry up and go And it was a nightmare, but we found it

00:09:27 - 00:09:36 | Speaker 4:

I'm going to sound very, very ignorant right now As the 27-year-old who doesn't have any kids Yeah The Tooth Fairy cares that much about the first tooth?

00:09:36 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, that first tooth If it was the second or third or tenth tooth It's like, okay, the Tooth Fairy Just write her a note And you should be good to go But she needs that first tooth

00:09:46 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 4:

But, like, Spike, do you know, have you been able to talk to the Tooth Fairy about your daughter's first tooth that you may or may not have saved?

00:09:55 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 5:

Much like I would have saved maybe the first little clipping of hair from the...

00:10:00 - 00:10:19 | Speaker 6:

first haircut or maybe you save the scissors you cut the umbilical cord with but where are all those a little bit like i in in my basement i got a little bin named nally and a little bin named nicole and it's everything from the first little story book we read to the little knit cap they came home from the hospital wearing and then the tooth fairy puts that first tooth in there for us

00:10:19 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 8:

to save forever yeah this isn't fair because as a child who just received that box you're just giving us the weirdest trash that we are forced to hold on to. Forever.

00:10:28 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 6:

At your age as a millennial, wink,

00:10:31 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 8:

then I'm actually... I'm on the cusp of Gen Z, thank you very much. You don't want the

00:10:35 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 6:

garbage stuff now, but when you get older you'll appreciate the nostalgia of having that, and then you bore your own children with this. Look, this was my first report card when I was eight years old.

00:10:44 - 00:10:49 | Speaker 3:

Your kid's going to be like, so? Who cares? You get all F's. Is it Kira?

00:10:50 - 00:10:59 | Speaker 5:

Yes, Kira. Where did you find the tooth or you were searching for the tooth right did you even find it so i'm a teacher and

00:10:59 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 1:

uh one day we had a student come in the office and lost her tooth in the office so we had about five staff members on their hands and knees in the office crawling around the floor trying to find this tooth and our principal walks in like what the heck is going on uh we finally found the tooth after like an hour but i was like we were not given yes at least you knew it was in the office i just had my house to go by we knew we knew where the location was right right last

00:11:26 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 5:

one because this is actually a a fantastic uh tooth fairy uh kelly hi good morning good morning

00:11:34 - 00:12:02 | Speaker 7:

your tooth fairy has glitter on the money yes so i would always um keep a bottle of spray body glitter in the house and anytime i came across two dollar bills uh the super he was notoriously late so i can't pat myself on the back sometimes she didn't come till after the children went and brushed their teeth and then returned to their room but it was glitter money it was special magic

00:12:02 - 00:12:09 | Speaker 6:

money oh where'd that come from the strip club or what happened where's it well i do have to

00:12:09 - 00:12:13 | Speaker 7:

roast you a little bit, Spike, I want a $30 bill. Yeah, I'm telling you, only

00:12:13 - 00:12:14 | Speaker 6:

the Tooth Fairy has that magic.

00:12:14 - 00:12:17 | Speaker 1:

What ATM does the $30 bill? I didn't even notice he said that.

00:12:19 - 00:12:23 | Speaker 6:

That's the kind of BS money that Shannon's handing out with the Tooth Fairy because there's

00:12:23 - 00:12:34 | Speaker 7:

a lot of teeth to be paid for. I have to thank you, though, so much. I was at Jingle Ball last night because of you guys, so thank you, thank you, thank you. It was an amazing night. Oh, good. You guys did an awesome, awesome job.

00:12:34 - 00:12:36 | Speaker 1:

I hope you got a little bit more sleep than we all did.

00:12:37 - 00:12:44 | Speaker 7:

No, not at all. I always come home from a concert so wired so i'm on a lot of caffeine right now good well we're all we have a lot of

00:13:11 - 00:13:43 | Speaker 4:

receive APRITUDE and get tested before each injection. If you think you're exposed to HIV or have flu-like symptoms, tell your doctor right away. More HIV testing may be needed. APRITUDE does not prevent other sexually transmitted infections. Practice safer sex to reduce your risk. Get APRITUDE as scheduled. Missing doses increases your HIV risk. Don't take APRITUDE if allergic to it or taking certain medicines that may interact. Tell your doctor about your medical conditions, liver problems, and mental health. Serious side effects include allergic reactions or rash, liver problems, and depression. If these occur, get medical help right away. The most common side effect is injection site reaction.
