Here at the Happiness Lab, we're serving up some hot takes for the summer. Big ideas that just might reshape how you think about your well-being. Like the radical notion that we should get rid of small talk completely.

00:00:56 - 00:01:01 | Speaker 5:

We talk about current events. We talk about what you do for a living. But not, do you love what you do for a living? Is this your dream job?

00:01:02 - 00:01:14 | Speaker 1:

For more surprising ideas backed by psychological science, check out our new series, Happiness Hot Takes. Listen to the Happiness Lab with me, Dr. Laurie Santos, on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:15 - 00:01:42 | Speaker 7:

All right, it is the Mojo in the Morning show. It's that time of year when your kids make Christmas lists, and they give you probably 28,000 things on their Christmas list and then they give it to you a new Christmas list like in a week and then another one in a week. I always said my kids can never do a Christmas list until after Thanksgiving. So I always said that because I knew that they would change their Christmas list like a million times.

00:01:42 - 00:02:47 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm almost done with Luce. Luce was super, she's super easy. Smith, seven and a half. He's a little tougher. and so last night he was and I did already start shopping for him but last night he was like I want to make a Christmas list I said okay and I'm thinking you know like after a while he's like how do you spell oh my god Smith I was like trying to make dinner so I finally had the genius idea I pulled up Amazon and I was like search things in Amazon because I knew it would kind of correct it and I go fill the cart don't hit buy and that way like all of the things that he wanted or wants are in an Amazon cart, but then he also was writing. You guys, his handwriting's this big. Each letter's like 11 inches high. We gotta work on this. But he also wrote part of a list of things that he could not find on Amazon. My child is asking for a Cybertruck. Oh! Not a model Cybertruck, not a Power Wheels Cybertruck. A Cybertruck.

00:02:47 - 00:02:55 | Speaker 7:

You know why he was doing that? Because you did that topic on the air about Cybertrucks and how people who drive Cybertrucks are douchebags.

00:02:56 - 00:03:25 | Speaker 2:

Oh, I know you're so excited. He, fingers crossed, does not ever listen to this radio show. But also, I had to explain to him, I'm like, Smith, honey, you can't even drive until you're 16. Also, mama will never have enough money to be able to buy you a Cybertruck. So, you gotta wait until you're 16 and ask your dad. It's a self-driving car, so does he need to be able to drive? Shut up, Megan. But you have to laugh at some of the items on these kids' Christmas lists. A Cybertruck.

00:03:25 - 00:04:01 | Speaker 7:

What's the biggest thing on your kids' Christmas list? Or what was the biggest thing on your kids' Christmas list? I remember when the boys were younger, and I don't know which one it was. It might have been Jacob or something like that. But Jacob wanted, it was similar to what you did about a car. Like, Jacob wanted it, and I thought, oh, this is kind of cool. he literally put the MSRP I thought it was like oh my god they're in the Hot Wheels I loved Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars when I was a kid and my kids were never it was like the kid literally wanted like the actual car and he had the MS he goes MSRP didn't even know what the hell MSRP stood for

00:04:01 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 6:

are you all familiar with Operation Santa? yeah is that a charity? so the post office it ended yesterday but the post office has this partnership with like the richest people in the world Where they accept letters From anybody It doesn't have to be a child It can be anybody And you write your wildest dreams You mail it to Santa Who lives at the North Pole Whatever, whatever, whatever And they set those letters aside And then upload them to a website Where rich people read the letters And buy you whatever you want That's crazy It ended yesterday though Did Josiah send something in? Yeah The only thing that I know for sure This is why I was looking at flights yesterday He wanted I told him I was like Put a trip to Tokyo on there Oh you're telling You can't tell him Well I mean he was asking like what do I want? I'm like, dream big.

00:04:45 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 7:

844-MOJO-LIVE 844-665-6548 What's on your kids' Christmas list? Hi, Mojo in the Morning. Hello. Good morning. Hi, what's happening? My daughter wants a DJ booth. A DJ booth?

00:05:00 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 4:

They should come to the studio today. They're about to throw her away.

00:05:02 - 00:05:06 | Speaker 1:

Wait, like the DJ booth that you would see in a club or something like that?

00:05:07 - 00:05:12 | Speaker 4:

Yes, and she's five. I blame Barbie, of all people. Wait, no, no, no. Don't blame.

00:05:13 - 00:05:14 | Speaker 2:

Honor Barbie with this.

00:05:15 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 1:

I will say this to you, though. That was one of the things. When I was a kid, all I wanted was, did you guys ever hear of Mr. Microphone? Did you guys ever know that? Or are you guys too young for Mr. Microphone?

00:05:24 - 00:05:25 | Speaker 7:

No, what is it? Hang on. It's all familiar.

00:05:25 - 00:05:42 | Speaker 1:

Mr. Microphone, you would hook it up to your car or your home stereo system, which nobody has home stereo systems anymore, but you would hook it up, and you could go to a special channel on there, and it gave you a microphone. That thing lasted a day in my house until my dad, with his Cuban accent, goes, throw the goddamn thing away.

00:05:43 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 2:

Dude, I had one of those that had a voice modulator on it, and Yellow Submarine was on there, along with Independent Women Part 2, and we screeched it for three days before my dad said, the wire's broke.

00:05:54 - 00:06:06 | Speaker 1:

weird what happened i don't know what happened angela what's up good morning guys how are you we're great smith asked for a brand new uh cyber truck an actual cyber truck for christmas what

00:06:06 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 6:

00:06:14 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 3:

all the fun stuff he's never played on a pc in his life doesn't know how to game i had to tell Santa doesn't really bring those big presents for a 10-year-old that doesn't know how to play. Hey, question for you.

00:06:30 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 1:

What was the catalog that you used to look at as a kid? Because I think nowadays the kids have the internet.

00:06:37 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 6:

Service merchandise. P.C. Petty service merchandise. The back of the catalog was all the toys.

00:06:43 - 00:06:49 | Speaker 1:

These kids nowadays, they have everything they want online. They can get it anything they want.

00:06:50 - 00:06:56 | Speaker 6:

Anything. And, you know, he went through the Target book and circled all Squishmallows. Oh, yeah. Go to Costco for those, by the way.

00:06:57 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 1:

Elizabeth, what's up? It's Mojo in the Morning.

00:07:00 - 00:07:01 | Speaker 5:

Hi, good morning.

00:07:01 - 00:07:02 | Speaker 1:

What's going on?

00:07:03 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 5:

My four-year-old daughter, she's asking for those Tesla robots. Oh, Kim Kardashian just got one. Yes, I saw that. She wants this robot so this robot can help her clean her room.

00:07:15 - 00:07:20 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, you know what? That would be the reason why you'd want one of those, right? Help you around the house.

00:07:21 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 5:

So we took family pictures, and Santa was there. And Santa's, you know, asking her, what did she want for Christmas? What toy? And she pulls out with this robot to help her clean her room. And Santa looks at me like, I'm crazy.

00:07:32 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 1:

Oh, my gosh. That's wild. All I kept thinking of this morning when Shannon told us a story about Smith with the Cybertruck was, we were like, yeah, you should get him this. I remember when we got Luke a dirt bike. That dirt bike Ended up going right through all of our trees In the front of our house Do you remember that picture at all

00:07:52 - 00:07:54 | Speaker 6:

Yeah I would not get him a dirt bike

00:07:54 - 00:07:59 | Speaker 1:

Oh my god it was crazy I wanted a snow plow when I was a kid I always thought that a snow plow

00:07:59 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 6:

They make power wheels Kids snow plows You wanted to do work

00:08:04 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 1:

I wanted a snow plow I wanted a big plow like the plow trucks that come down your street What's up Jenny

00:08:09 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 7:

Hey Mojo

00:08:11 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 1:

Hi what did your kid ask for

00:08:13 - 00:08:17 | Speaker 7:

My eight-year-old son asked me for a dirt bike.

00:08:17 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 1:

Oh, see, there you go. Are you going to get it for him?

00:08:21 - 00:08:30 | Speaker 7:

Of course I'm going to get it for him. But I said to him, where are you going to ride this dirt bike? Like, we don't have anywhere to ride this. So we'll see. I don't know. He said in the backyard.

00:08:30 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 1:

Where do you live?

00:08:32 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 7:

I live in Pinkston.

00:08:33 - 00:08:41 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, that's a, well, I guess Pinkston is probably a little bit better, but there's no streets usually in our neighborhood to be able to ride those things on, but that's cool.

00:08:41 - 00:08:46 | Speaker 7:

We don't live on a street where he can just take off on the dirt bike, but hey, he's going to figure it out.

00:08:48 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 1:

This is...

00:08:48 - 00:08:49 | Speaker 7:

It's a Christmas memory.

00:08:49 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 1:

That's cool. You're a great mom. Thank you for the call. What was it that your kid asked for, Alexis?

00:08:57 - 00:09:00 | Speaker 8:

She's 17 and she asked for a mattress.

00:09:00 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 1:

Oh, that's nice. Like, does she not have a good mattress or does she just want something better?

00:09:06 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 8:

Well, she's got an older one. We live in an old farmhouse.

00:09:09 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 1:

Okay.

00:09:09 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 8:

And we can't get the queen-size box spring up the stairs.

00:09:13 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 1:

Oh, she wants to figure about it.

00:09:15 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 8:

So she had, like, made something else for her. So she's like, it's getting uncomfortable.

00:09:21 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 1:

That's awesome. You know what? Are you going to get it for her? Are you going to figure out a way? Yeah. You went off T-Move. Pull it through. No, don't do that. They now do these purple mattresses where they come wrapped up enough. Those are amazing. And you can get them up the stairs, and then it goes, it opens up. What's up Nicole

00:09:40 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 4:

Hey good morning everybody Calling about the funny Christmas gift My 11 year old son has been wanting A samurai sword for

00:09:49 - 00:09:51 | Speaker 7:

Years basically

00:09:51 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

He's 11 And he's thinking of ways he can be safe with it Like wrap a towel and duct tape it at the end And he can practice on the couch

00:09:59 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

Yeah

00:10:00 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 3:

And then yesterday, I'm at work, and he sends me this text, and he said, evidently, I can't have a samurai sword unless I'm 18. And I can't even live in a home that has a samurai sword, so I'd like a 3-D printer.

00:10:14 - 00:10:26 | Speaker 4:

Oh, my God. So he's going to print a sword. He's going to print a sword. I'm making myself. Oh, that's so awesome. Liz, what did your son ask for for Christmas from Santa?

00:10:27 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 3:

Oh, just an ATM machine. No big deal.

00:10:31 - 00:10:34 | Speaker 4:

That's my kid. I love that. That's the best.

00:10:34 - 00:10:36 | Speaker 3:

I'm like, do you want it empty or fully loaded?

00:10:38 - 00:10:42 | Speaker 4:

Kayla, what did your son ask for for Christmas?

00:10:43 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 3:

For two years in a row, he asked for a butler.

00:10:47 - 00:10:48 | Unknown:

A butler?

00:10:48 - 00:10:49 | Speaker 3:

00:10:49 - 00:10:50 | Speaker 5:

00:10:51 - 00:10:58 | Speaker 4:
