00:02:41 - 00:02:46 | Speaker 7:

thinking every time i i will see shannon's like girls nights and stuff oh there's bottles of wine

00:02:46 - 00:03:50 | Speaker 2:

on the table i mean seriously but yeah that's very that is has always been very normal for us But something is happening in my group of friends, and I think it's happening on a very broad level, excuse me, everywhere lately. I'm seeing it's like a movement of people trying to be sober or at least not drink as much as we have all been drinking. I'm lopping myself into this because you all know I love a good glass or five of wine. Everybody in my group of friends lately, for the most part, is on a sober kick. And I think it started when one of my girlfriends was diagnosed with breast cancer back around the holiday. And obviously she couldn't drink. And she was always kind of like the, she's like the life of the party friend. And so she would, yes, she was always the one that we would kind of like rally with. And not that we all stopped drinking because she wasn't drinking, but I think everybody in our group of friends stopped drinking less. And then graduation season is, I feel like now kind of ending, but it's been in full.

00:03:50 - 00:03:52 | Speaker 7:

Or started drinking less instead of stopped drinking.

00:03:52 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I started drinking less. Sorry. And then graduation season happened. And I feel like a lot of my friends had so many different graduation parties to go to and were drinking a ton at the graduation parties and then had mega hangovers the next day.

00:04:05 - 00:04:09 | Speaker 7:

So it's not like a sober October. It's like sober or anything.

00:04:09 - 00:04:32 | Speaker 2:

We all got together the other night and normally it would be a night where we open a couple bottles of wine and hang out on my friend Carrie's back patio. And instead, every single one of us had a no-hito, like no alcohol. And it was just, it was one of those moments where I looked around and went, this is not normal for my group of friends. You know, what's interesting is I think

00:04:32 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 7:

that mocktails have made it more prominent for people to do their thing like that. Yeah. It's

00:04:41 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 2:

such a i keep using the word movement because i feel like that's what it is more and more people and look i'm not saying i'm that is going to be me i i literally had a glass wine this weekend but um it's definitely i feel like we're moving towards you know those sorts of nights versus Was the vibe the same?

00:05:03 - 00:05:07 | Speaker 1:

I mean, not the same, but it's still fun. So fun. Yeah, absolutely.

00:05:08 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 2:

I was just recently on that bourbon tour. Yeah. And we were down in Louisville. And the guy who was from, God, what the heck is it? It's one of the bourbon companies. I forget that we were with. I can't remember which one it was. Give me a second. i could i could do my kevin impersonation of well along wells um you'll think so no but he no i mean i know the thoughts i don't want to give i was going to give him credit said that uh alcohol sales are way down right now and the reason alcohol sales are way down is because of um uh weed and the uh the more more they said that more people and it's not the younger end it's everything even people that are you know our age are not doing um booze as much as they used to yeah and booze sales are way down right now because people are finding themselves doing more edibles and then the other one is guys are now way into the the uh yeah the zins the the nicotine i will also say

00:06:15 - 00:06:39 | Speaker 1:

and i'm making myself sound old here but this is my reality perimenopause has changed the way that my body um like a response to it yes i if i have two glasses of wine kev the next day i wake up i feel horrible yeah it's not worth it to me anymore to do to have any more than your hangovers are way it is so bad yes it's like i was ripping shots all night long heather what's up or i'm

00:06:39 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 4:

sorry sarah what's up it's mojo in the morning hey guys um so i i'm 25 and i go line dancing like every single weekend my friends ask me how do i not have fun with like without drinking because i don't really drink when i go line dancing i have a freaking blast because i'm more like present in the moment and stuff and i enjoy watching other people so that's funny

00:07:06 - 00:07:18 | Speaker 2:

because of um and i think honestly i think everybody's worried about getting duis and stuff like that too but uh you you can have fun still without uh without drinking absolutely

00:07:18 - 00:07:33 | Speaker 4:

yeah i are you doing anything so much water do you do anything do you are you uh are you into uh edibles or anything no no when i'm there i probably drink like 15 glasses of water

00:07:34 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 2:

You're going hard.

00:07:34 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 4:

But I have an absolute blast. It's so fun.

00:07:38 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. And you're how old?

00:07:41 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 4:

I'm 25. Yeah. Can I give a shout-out, too?

00:07:44 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 2:

Sure.

00:07:46 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 4:

I'd love to give a shout-out to Rodeo Ryan at Diamondback out in Belleville. There you go. I love him.

00:07:51 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 2:

We need to go out there and do a little Morgan Wallen with you.

00:07:57 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 4:

Absolutely. This Saturday is the Rhinestone dance, so come on out. I'll be there.

00:08:01 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 2:

You ready? Can we, as a show, do a country bar one night? I'm with whatever. We've got to go. We would have so many listeners there. I know we don't play a lot of country, but that would be so much fun to show up one day. What's up, Becky?

00:08:14 - 00:08:15 | Speaker 3:

Becky.

00:08:16 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 2:

How are you doing?

00:08:18 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 3:

I'm about to be walking into work. I'm going to be a couple minutes late because I'm talking, y'all.

00:08:22 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 2:

Well, that's okay. We'll give you an excuse, one of those back-to-class notes like your teachers used to give you.

00:08:28 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 3:

Perfect. That sounds great. No, I think it's really good, the whole evolution of mocktails and all these other things, because I'm a recovering addict. I've been clean for just over 10 years. I don't do anything, so no alcohol, weed, any of that stuff. But if you look at, like, public activity set up for adults, like, out in the community, all that stuff, it all revolves around alcohol 99% of the time. And so for people who don't drink or can't drink or whatever it is, it's really everywhere you go. Like, everything revolves around that.

00:09:05 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 2:

Are there any bars, Becky?

00:09:08 - 00:09:08 | Speaker 3:

What's that?

00:09:08 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 2:

Are there any bars that are just pure mocktail bars that just do mocktails and no alcohol at all?

00:09:13 - 00:09:41 | Speaker 3:

I think one just opened. area. And I know there was one that in Perrysburg for a while was, but we ended up finding out they were just spinning it that way at first because they didn't have their liquor license when they first opened. But even restaurant menus. But I've definitely seen like on the coast, like the East Coast and West Coast, people I know who live in those areas. It's really prevalent to find places that are strictly. Yeah. Even restaurants that I've gone to for years and

00:09:41 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 1:

I notice all of a sudden have a really big section of, like, mocktail. Not alcohol.

00:09:46 - 00:09:54 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, you got to adjust to your new customer base. Yep. Thank you, Becky. I appreciate your call. Isabel. What's up, Isabel? Hi. Good morning.

00:09:55 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

Good morning. I was just going to say, I don't know if you're on TikTok, Doom.

00:10:00 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 5:

scrolling as much as i am but a part of my feed is about the clean girl movement where a bunch of women are scaling back on alcohol and they're creating more like mocktails and the other thing is i don't know if you guys have heard of nowadays but nowadays is a thc concentrate that you can make like at-home mocktails with i have personally not um tried it but everybody online is like raving about it. It's a new, like, drink of choice.

00:10:29 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 1:

I've never heard of it, but now I'm Googling.

00:10:31 - 00:10:41 | Speaker 2:

Clean girl movement is what Shannon and her girlfriends are doing. It's about time, by the way, for Shannon to be part of this whole thing. We were worried about her. We were going to have some conversations

00:10:41 - 00:10:43 | Speaker 1:

with her. I never said I was not going to not drink anything.

00:10:43 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 2:

Kevin needs to join the clean boy movement hopefully sometime soon.

00:10:47 - 00:10:48 | Speaker 3:

As soon as you do it, I'm with you.

00:10:49 - 00:10:52 | Speaker 2:

Dee, I show up here. What's up, Dee? Hi.

00:10:53 - 00:11:09 | Speaker 4:

Hi. What's going on? Oh, I was just texting about, agreeing with Shannon about, I feel like perimenopause has turned me into like the biggest, like I can't drink. I can't drink to save my life anymore. It's ridiculous. I'm so hungover and it doesn't matter what I have either. Yeah.

00:11:10 - 00:11:12 | Speaker 2:

Hey, Dee, can I recommend something for you?

00:11:14 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 4:

Is it weed? Because I already do that.

00:11:15 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 2:

What's that?

00:11:17 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 4:

I said, is it weed? Because I already do that. Yeah.

00:11:19 - 00:11:27 | Speaker 2:

No. So will you listen to the podcast that's going to be released today on the We Don't podcast platform that Chelsea and I do, my wife and I do?

00:11:28 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, I listen to you guys all the time.

00:11:29 - 00:12:49 | Speaker 2:

So that podcast is about perimenopause. So starting it, like when Chelsea realized that she started it, and being full-fledged in menopause, and it basically is, and I'm saying this to you because you probably already know it, get your partners to listen to it. your, your guys or girls that you're in a relationship with. I learned so much about it. Like some things that Chelsea was telling me that was going on in her life, you know, over the last, you know, uh, years, I had no clue that she was in perimenopause and I had no clue that she was in full fledged menopause and what it does to your body and why we as guys sit there and go, why is, why is she acting this way? Or why doesn't she want to do this or what's going on? And you don't realize what it does to you and the effects of things that it does to you from everything from hair loss to the way that your body feels to the pain to the drying out basically and how this is she went I mean she was like full-fledged I asked her so many different questions about it I'm going to say this to you they need to teach a class on this crap like I don't know if and if you and if you have doctors that don't sit there and talk to you about menopause uh or or earlier on like to be a 30 year old woman and to be in perimenopause and not realize you're in perimenopause you just think that maybe you're going through anxiety or depression or you're just really

00:12:49 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 1:

irritable and you can't figure out why you want to jump out of your body yes and what in literally

00:12:54 - 00:13:40 | Speaker 2:

why you're jumping wanting to jump out of your body i'm telling you kev i learned so much crap about about this i am so happy i'm not a woman i always wanted to be a woman wow i always felt like if i was a woman i would just be having fun all day these days you can't be honestly i am going to tell you this, I don't want it. I don't want it at all. After this, I have so much respect for my wife and for Shannon and all the rest of the women in this world. Uh, you know, cause I know you've also talked about your kind of struggle going through this, but it's great. First off, I had no clue in your thirties. You go through this, that this starts in, it starts. Yeah, for sure. And it's crazy. It's crazy. The percentage Chelsea had all these stats, man. She's like the facts queen. And also it was talking about different things that you can do to help

00:13:40 - 00:13:55 | Speaker 3:

yourself uh hormonally everybody probably different yes based on their genetic makeups but when you talk about entering your early 30s is there like one telltale sign and like this is something i'm experiencing maybe it's related to perry yes when she said she was going to murder

00:13:55 - 00:14:21 | Speaker 2:

me that was that was just thursday yeah listen i'm going to say this to you uh we we could do literally we actually have had this conversation of doing a live version of the we don't thing And I said, we should just have you do with experts just on menopause. We would sell out the Fox Theater. I will bet you a million dollars that it would be just unbelievable the amount of people that could come forward.

00:14:21 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

I mean, we've got so off topic, but it's so interesting to me because I don't think that a lot of women knew what they were struggling with in this late 30s, early 40s, whatever, because we're like, well, we're not going through menopause yet until it got hit with this label of perimenopause. doctors aren't being taught this in medical school right now. I was talking to a girlfriend of mine yesterday who is an OBGYN and she's like, this is all being self-taught right now. Like we are all learning this as this label got put on it and as it's happening. So it's, it's interesting now that women are like, Oh, okay. I'm not crazy. This is actually something. One of the things that

00:15:00 - 00:15:29 | Speaker 8:

Chelsea's mom recommended to her when she was in her thirties that Chelsea actually said that she didn't do, she wish she would have done was to check check all of her levels, hormone levels. Yeah. As a baseline to show the difference in what your levels will go through, through the forties and into being 50. um, And, what a smart woman her mom was to tell her ahead of time, but she should have forced her to do it. You know, uh, what's going on, Gina? Hi, what you want to go back to, uh, go back to why people aren't drinking anymore. Gina? What's up,

00:15:30 - 00:15:47 | Speaker 10:

hi um yeah my girlfriends are very similar to shannon like what she was saying how everyone is just kind of taking a step back with it and i think it's really because um myself and several of my friends are on glp1 oh yeah we just don't have the desire to drink weight loss shots okay

00:15:47 - 00:16:02 | Speaker 8:

yeah and you know what a lot of people you can only have one drink if that so a lot of them are you know a lot of people that are on that's almost uh somebody was telling uh said something to me when I was drinking a less they said I can tell you you're doing the shot based on that so yeah

00:16:02 - 00:16:18 | Speaker 10:

yeah it's when we get together where we used to get together for happy hours we get together and go do like wellness ivs together or go do like a yoga class like it's definitely shifted yeah like my girlfriends and what our habits are now yep it sucks being skinny

00:16:18 - 00:16:37 | Speaker 8:

no it does not it's not as fun they always would say skinny tastes good but it doesn't really I don't know it doesn't taste like booze or wine Carmen knows a bar that is just purely a dry bar and it's a black owned bar is that what you were telling me or no

00:16:37 - 00:17:09 | Speaker 9:

yeah the owner her name is Terry she's amazing and it's called Casablanca Dry and it's off of Gratiot in Detroit It's right down the street. Oh, it is right down the street. It's Casavanca Dry on Instagram. You can follow them there. And then the other thing, Dr. Dana Braxton does some work with women entering perimenopause and menopause. And she does, like, all-natural tinctures and stuff. She's also great.

00:17:10 - 00:17:10 | Speaker 8:

That's awesome.

00:17:10 - 00:17:16 | Speaker 9:

They go to my job a lot for a small business meetup, so I thought I'd plug them.

00:17:16 - 00:17:18 | Speaker 8:

Thank you, Carmen. I appreciate it. Appreciate you listening.

00:17:19 - 00:17:21 | Speaker 9:

Of course. Thank you. Have a good day.

00:17:21 - 00:17:33 | Speaker 8:

Take care. And by the way, for those that are giving up on the alcohol, we have a studio full of alcohol that is, we'll take it. We'll take whatever alcohol you're not using at home anymore before it goes bad.

00:17:34 - 00:18:01 | Speaker 2:

00:18:05 - 00:18:13 | Speaker 6:

We've all seen the headlines. Florida man wrestles alligator in a tuxedo, or Florida man sues after finding toenails in his ice cream.

00:18:13 - 00:18:17 | Speaker 5:

It's easy to laugh at the meme, but have you ever wondered about the human behind the headline?

00:18:17 - 00:18:18 | Speaker 6:

Hey, I'm Frankie P.

00:18:19 - 00:18:23 | Speaker 5:

And I'm Amelia. On our podcast, Hidden Florida and Beyond, we're going beneath the surface of the Sunshine State.

00:18:24 - 00:18:32 | Speaker 6:

From interviews with real people who make Florida weird. I'm pulling it up, and as I'm pulling it up, I see an arm. Stop it. Come down.

00:18:32 - 00:18:40 | Speaker 4:

To deep dives into the stories you didn't know you were looking for. Hey, give it up for Mark Wahlberg on the podcast today. It's more than just a meme, it's a lifestyle.

00:18:40 - 00:18:45 | Speaker 6:

Listen to Hidden Florida and Beyond on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:19:10 - 00:19:14 | Speaker 2:

I mean, I can't even tell you, Paul, how crazy it was. It was insane.

00:19:14 - 00:19:20 | Speaker 7:

Listen to Paul's Best Podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:19:21 - 00:19:40 | Speaker 3:

I'm Mange Shachikular, and I'm back with a new season of my podcast, Skyline Drive. This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, curmudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.

00:19:40 - 00:19:45 | Speaker 1:

I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.

00:19:45 - 00:19:51 | Speaker 3:

Listen to Skyline Drive, How to Live Forever on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
