We've got to get to this one. Spike had to go to the hospital yesterday. It's the only hospital music that I actually know.

00:01:41 - 00:01:58 | Speaker 2:

It's funny you play that because my girlfriend just started watching all the Grey's Anatomy all over again. Your daughter's a big Grey's Anatomy fan, isn't she? Yeah, I think that's why it started. It ran through the household, and so now she's going to diagnose me for everything because she's watching the show, so she could basically tell you everything that's wrong.

00:01:58 - 00:02:10 | Speaker 4:

The only thing you get out of Grey's Anatomy, and Chelsea and Jacob watch it together every week. They actually have their Grey's Snapchat that they go back and forth with. But the only thing you get out of it is the relationship drama. Yeah.

00:02:10 - 00:02:13 | Speaker 2:

You can have sex in a closet, apparently, at the hospital.

00:02:14 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 4:

So yesterday we talked about Shannon's dad and how she bribed him to go to the hospital, which then got us talking to you about hitting your head.

00:02:23 - 00:03:09 | Speaker 2:

Something in the men's gene that we're just reluctant to go to the doctor and go to the hospital. I don't want to be bothered. I'm like, the body heals itself. Well, after all the nagging from our listeners and Shannon and Meg, I went to the, I called my doctor and when I started telling them the symptoms, I was like, I need to get an appointment in there, told them everything that happened, told them the symptoms, the timeline. And they were like, don't come to the doctor, go right to the emergency room. And I was like, what? I was like, no, it's really not that bad. I've been coming to work for three days. So then they put me on the phone with a triage nurse and she was like, go right to the doc, the emergency room. So I did. Then I got my head checked out. The doctor's there. I love Henry Ford, by the way. Just side note, shout out. Every time I've ever been there, they're the best. They said I definitely had a bad concussion.

00:03:09 - 00:03:10 | Speaker 1:

How do they check for that?

00:03:10 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 2:

They did a bunch of physical tests, and then he's looking at my ears, and then he's doing a bunch of other things. And he said it doesn't seem like anything more dangerous than that. So he says what I'm supposed to do for a concussion is rest my brain. i'm like what does rest my brain mean because i feel like i've been doing that for 20 years but he said uh for the next week i'm not supposed to do anything mentally or physically challenging i'm supposed to rest sleep take naps not look at screens not think too much which you probably i do all this way too much yeah i'm like there's no way i can't look at not look at screens and then he also said um try to avoid alcohol for the next week and i'm like pump the brakes doc This is Super Bowl week, so probably not going to do that either.

00:03:57 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 4:

Did he realize that you're just going to have a concussion then for as long as it's not going anywhere?

00:04:02 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 2:

Right. Well, you know, we went through all the different possibilities of what could have happened, what did happen. He said, I still have a big, giant red mark on the top of my head where I hit. So even though the big goose egg went down, he said it's still really bad. There's still a mark there. Yeah, yeah. But he said it's very common.

00:04:20 - 00:04:30 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, concussions are, man, they've always gone, it seems like in the past, undetected. And then you find out later that if, especially if you get multiple concussions, it could be really, really bad.

00:04:30 - 00:04:39 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. So he said, I had all the symptoms that showed I had a concussion, but not all the worst symptoms, which would show brain bleed or other things that could be worse.

00:04:40 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 4:

Well, good. Well, you are, you're, you're well. And at Henry Ford, did you go and eat in the cafeteria?

00:04:46 - 00:04:48 | Speaker 3:

Oh, that was my favorite.

00:04:48 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my gosh. once i was discharged i i went right to the cafe because i love i think i've talked on the air before i used to stop there on the way home from work to eat lunch when i was going home they just have a bunch of food stations and you know i know it might sound strange to pull into a hospital when you don't even have to go to the hospital you're not visiting people but they just always had good food there and on the healthier end so when i was trying to be healthy i know i can go there and get my kale and split pea soup or or you know the salads they have there and everything and i met so many nice listeners and nurses and and patients people visiting patients that recognized me right away and of course i wanted to hear my story i was like did you show them the knot on your head uh no i didn't show them i just told them why i was in there and they just looked at me like

00:05:34 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 1:

do you feel like you have to do that like when you're in a hospital you feel like you have to

00:05:37 - 00:05:55 | Speaker 2:

tell them why you're there well no but then i said this one lady asked me for picture and she was like oh my gosh this is like such a bright spot in my day to meet you and i was like oh it's so nice thank you and she asked what i was there for and i told her the whole story and i said what are you here for and she goes oh my father just died and i'm like oh my gosh okay yeah i just had a

00:05:55 - 00:06:00 | Speaker 1:

Would you like to come to the cafeteria with me? Right, I know. Pee soup on me. Pee soup on me.

00:06:01 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 2:

Well, then all the nurses were surprised when I said how much I love the cafeteria. They're like, really? And I said, you know, it's probably because they work there every day. They don't want to go to the same place for the same food every day.

00:06:11 - 00:06:16 | Speaker 1:

Spike is signing autographs at the Henry Ford cafeteria later today, guys, if you'd like to go see him.

00:06:16 - 00:06:20 | Speaker 5:

What's going on, David? Nothing much. Good morning, y'all.

00:06:20 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 1:

How you doing?

00:06:22 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 5:

I'm doing good. But I know how it feels to get a concussion. When I was in high school, I got a concussion in a soccer game, and I still finished the soccer game out.

00:06:31 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 1:

Wow. Yeah.

00:06:32 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 2:

It's not uncommon that people will ignore it or not realize it.

00:06:35 - 00:07:00 | Speaker 1:

Well, plus, David, I'm assuming when we all got injured, like nowadays they don't even allow you to be on the field if you look like you're a little bit zinged because we didn't know much, right? They didn't. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, so these Now, I can remember a buddy of mine Had a broken leg and played the entire Second half of a football game With a broken leg And he was limping the way And I was like, suck it up

00:07:00 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 2:

I told you how my girlfriend's been My girlfriend's been trying to get her to work out More often This is what happens with a concussion You guys talk over each other I stopped, and then he stopped, and then it got awkward So I started again Oh my god Yeah

00:07:16 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. Hold on a second. Hold on. Follow my finger. What's going on? Everybody okay here? What's going on, George?

00:07:25 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 8:

Spike, I'm glad you went in. I'll tell you, my son had a total of probably nine at least concussions over his career of soccer from the age of three up. And the coaches now are trained to look for specific signs. But it was to the point where he had no electronics, no TV, no cell phones. I mean, it got pretty severe. But we actually had to have him wear what was called a field helmet to protect his head because he was such an aggressive player.

00:07:58 - 00:08:00 | Speaker 1:

Oh, my God, I want Spike to have to wear a helmet.

00:08:00 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 8:

Yeah.

00:08:02 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 1:

Can you just have a bike helmet on? Great.

00:08:05 - 00:08:29 | Speaker 8:

You know, the funny thing is he has blonde hair. Yeah. So he had this black, just basically a padded helmet, just an extra layer of protection. Yeah. And the coach, it was mandatory that he had it on. He told him, he said, look, we need you in. You're a major part of these games. So if you don't have it on, I can't play it. So, I mean, it was like taking a soccer cleats. He had to have them.

00:08:29 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 2:

Well, George, if he had nine concussions playing that game, I'm not a doctor, but I'd pretty much say you need a helmet too.

00:08:35 - 00:08:36 | Speaker 1:

Have you ever thought about swimming?

00:08:37 - 00:08:38 | Unknown:

Exactly.

00:08:39 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 1:

Mike, can you send your helmet from West Michigan that's football helmet to Spike?

00:08:43 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 3:

My baby niece wears a helmet. She's six months old, and we put stickers all over it, so I'll bring you some decals for your helmet.

00:08:51 - 00:08:53 | Speaker 1:

Ray, how many concussions did you have?

00:08:55 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 7:

Over 70. I was a prize fighter for nine years, had over 400 fights. How are you still talking?

00:09:02 - 00:09:03 | Speaker 6:

He's fine.

00:09:03 - 00:09:08 | Speaker 4:

Seriously, 70? No, I really mean that. 70 concussions. I mean, that's some pretty severe damage.

00:09:09 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, over. I'm fine, you know. It's fine. I'm fine.

00:09:14 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 3:

Do you ever do, like, stupid stuff and just say, oh, I've had 70 concussions? Waka, waka. Never mind. There you go.

00:09:22 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 1:

I love it. You got to work for the morning zoo radio show. That's the best. Waka, waka.

00:09:27 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 7:

Yeah, that'd be nice.

00:09:30 - 00:09:32 | Speaker 1:

Ray, what does Ray do for a living? I want to know.

00:09:33 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 7:

I'm actually, I drive heavy equipment. Oh, good. Good.

00:09:38 - 00:09:41 | Speaker 8:

Standard. Awesome. I've only hit two people this year.

00:09:44 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 2:

Waka-waka.

00:09:45 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 8:

Waka-waka.

00:09:47 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

I told you guys how my girlfriend's been trying to get me to work out, and so then two weeks ago I threw my back out shoveling, and I've had back injuries, and then this week I come home, I'm giving her the whole diagnosis of what the doctor said about the concussion.

00:10:00 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 4:

And there's this long pause, and she goes, well, have you given any thought to what next week's injury will be of why you can't exercise or help clean the house?

00:10:12 - 00:10:55 | Speaker 2:

This is, by the way, this is the greatest excuse to get out of all that stuff, right? Yeah, well, that's what it sounds like. Do you remember when you didn't want to wear, like, your uniform in school or you didn't want to actually participate in gym class? So you would fake a note saying that you couldn't participate, that you hurt yourself? Because for some reason I never wanted to change into the gym clothes In front of the other kids Because I didn't want them to see how small my penis was So I would have my buddies forge a note from my dad Saying that I couldn't do it Because I didn't want to have to be in gym class That's kind of the feeling that I'm getting with you If you want we'll have a doctor write a note to your girlfriend Megan Say he cannot work out this week

00:10:55 - 00:11:03 | Speaker 4:

Well I know I told the doctor to do that I'm like, she wanted me to clean the bathrooms this weekend, but I can't really bend over because of the vertigo. I get really dizzy.

00:11:04 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 1:
