00:02:18 - 00:02:27 | Speaker 3:

It's one particular. My younger daughter, Nicole, wants a new pet. And not a dog, not a cat.

00:02:27 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 4:

she wants a pet mouse oh so are are are their pet mouse mouse mice yeah yeah do you seriously say

00:02:38 - 00:02:45 | Speaker 2:

mices and who just snorted that was megan has anyone listening ever had a mouse before because

00:02:45 - 00:03:26 | Speaker 3:

i feel like it will get loose and disappear into my walls you know apparently they're really great pets yeah yeah they're cuddly yeah so I I've told I've been told that but I don't want one and in the discussion my girlfriend actually upgraded it to a rat saying they make better pets so now instead of me having a teammate here who will be locked in to not having the pet Meg started saying no that'd be fun do you have you ever looked at a rat or something like that instead so it's not going well and I just feel like it's not a good idea I'm gonna end up taking care of this thing every day and then i have to worry about keeping it alive feeding it and it

00:03:26 - 00:03:32 | Speaker 2:

not getting out i would constantly feel it on me i'm not afraid i like animals i love i'm not afraid

00:03:32 - 00:03:42 | Speaker 3:

of having it's just i know i'm gonna have to be the one taking care of how much how much work is that not killing her pet would be a lot of work although i thought the fish was not a lot of work

00:03:42 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 2:

Guess how many fish I have now?

00:03:45 - 00:03:45 | Speaker 3:

Zero.

00:03:48 - 00:03:50 | Speaker 4:

But that also is...

00:03:50 - 00:03:51 | Speaker 2:

They're all in fishy heaven.

00:03:52 - 00:03:54 | Speaker 4:

You were not a very good pet owner at that, too, though?

00:03:54 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 2:

No, quite honestly, I was. I just, I mean, you got to clean the tank more than I thought.

00:03:58 - 00:04:08 | Speaker 3:

So we know what's happening, too, I'm realizing, is she probably went through all this with her mother, and her mother said, absolutely not. So now she's pitching it at my house to get the pet mouse. Yeah.

00:04:08 - 00:04:18 | Speaker 4:

So, quick question, because we've had hamsters and things like that when we were younger as kids. Did you ever have one of those? Did you ever have a rodent as a pet when you were a kid?

00:04:18 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 3:

Not a rodent. When the girls were younger, they had- No, as a dad, or as a kid when you were a kid growing up. Oh, no, my parents never let me have everything. You kidding me? Never. Never. I bought my own fish when I got old enough. But my girls had, they really wanted a lizard. So we got them a gecko, and it was really cute. They took care of it and paid attention. Yeah, Maya paid attention. We actually adopted it from a listener who was going away to college and couldn't care for it anymore. And I took over, and it was wonderful. But after about six months, they lost their fascination in it. And guess whose pet it was now? I had to take care of Maya.

00:05:00 - 00:05:03 | Speaker 4:

that time it's the same thing that's going to happen with this mouse we had i remember one time

00:05:03 - 00:05:30 | Speaker 3:

we shared one of uh the the rodents in the past i think i don't know if it was a ferret or something like that with another family or yeah we shared it with uh luke's uh best friends uh sydney and taylor so it would go over to uh they were twins so it would go over to their house the meyers house and then it would come over to our house and i and it was one of those things where it's like We all prayed that it would die at the other's house Like all the parents

00:05:30 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 4:

My older brother had a ferret And he's the reason we were never allowed to have any pets

00:05:34 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 3:

What's going on, Danielle?

00:05:37 - 00:05:39 | Speaker 6:

Hi, good morning

00:05:39 - 00:05:44 | Speaker 3:

You want to give Spike some advice On that pet mouse That he will be getting for his daughter?

00:05:46 - 00:06:05 | Speaker 1:

Actually, my daughter Had pet rats They're very, very, very intelligent And her one rat Was litter trained And had free roam of the house and just hung out with the cat all day. Really? Went to the bathroom in his cage. We'd come home. I'd be sleeping with the cat in the cat bed. It was just right around the house.

00:06:05 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, I've heard that the rats are a lot more intelligent than mice.

00:06:08 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 1:

I literally have, like... Very intelligent. My skin is tingling.

00:06:12 - 00:06:18 | Speaker 4:

I like the idea of the rat because it's bigger and harder to lose. Correct. But I don't want either of them.

00:06:18 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 7:

Very tiny. You know what really creeps me out? You guys have a great day. Take care of you, too. Thanks. Guinea pigs. There is something about guinea pigs that makes me, like, I don't know. I would go to girls' houses that had guinea pigs, and then you would try to do a sleepover. And then they make that noise. The noise. Y'all were a different breed if you had guinea pigs.

00:06:41 - 00:06:45 | Speaker 4:

And I heard guinea pigs bite. Like, they're a little more. They're mean. Yeah.

00:06:46 - 00:06:48 | Speaker 3:

No. What's up, Steph? How you doing?

00:06:49 - 00:06:50 | Speaker 5:

I'm good. How are you?

00:06:50 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 3:

Good. What is it like having a pet mouse?

00:06:55 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 5:

Oh, it's really great. So actually there's two kinds of mice. There's like a fancy mouse and then like a feeder mouse. And we got both. And I really recommend getting the fancy mouse because they're smarter and the feeder mice are not so smart.

00:07:10 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 8:

I did not know there was such a thing as a fancy mouse, like Ratatouille.

00:07:14 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. It's the nice way of pet stores saying this is the one you buy if you're not going to feed it to a snake. Right. Exactly. But what's the difference?

00:07:21 - 00:07:30 | Speaker 5:

It was super fun. It was just like having a hamster. They're like, we got all the tubes, and they had a little ball. We put them in the ball, and then our cat would, like, follow them around when they went out of the ball.

00:07:30 - 00:07:36 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah, you're all in with all the pets. I don't want to be cleaning out tubes and poop and listening to them make noise at night.

00:07:36 - 00:07:37 | Speaker 7:

It's the smell, too.

00:07:38 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 4:

Well, my big thing is also I travel, and I'm busy at work all day, and, like, who's going to care for this thing? If I have to leave town for the weekend, am I going to drop it at Mojo's for the weekend?

00:07:46 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 3:

No, you're not. No.

00:07:48 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 4:

Sounds like you have experience. You cared for the ferret.

00:07:51 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 3:

Remember Mike McCoy with his fish? Oh, yeah, he left you the fish. Our program director, Mike McCoy, at the time brought his fish over to my house and didn't come pick it up. I had the fish there for a long time. Mackenzie says, just like it is if they ever get in your house, you're not going to have to just get one. How many are you going to have to get, Mackenzie?

00:08:11 - 00:08:14 | Speaker 6:

So usually you have to get, like, pairs, like two.

00:08:15 - 00:08:15 | Speaker 4:

No.

00:08:15 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 6:

Because they get lonely.

00:08:17 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, they're going to get lonely, and then they're going to hump, and then I'm going to have 60 mice.

00:08:20 - 00:08:22 | Speaker 6:

No, so you have to get them of the same sex

00:08:22 - 00:08:23 | Speaker 4:

Oh

00:08:23 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 6:

So they will mate if you get like Opposite sex, but usually when they're Babies, you get like two So that they're not lonely Did you just fart?

00:08:33 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 3:

Did you just beef right there? That was a large fart Huh?

00:08:38 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 6:

What?

00:08:39 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 3:

Did you just let out a stinky?

00:08:43 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 6:

No It did sound like it

00:08:45 - 00:08:49 | Speaker 3:

It was the Blame it on the gerbil

00:08:49 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 4:

okay yeah she farted yeah i don't think she knows we can hear it that loudly hi jake

00:08:57 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 2:

hey y'all hey what's going on so when i was in grade school i'm from minnesota me and my best friend in about fifth grade went to the mall and just walking around board you know we got dropped off there and uh we ended up going to the pet store and buying two mice they convinced us that they were both the same sex um lo and behold we brought them home parents weren't happy they were not the same sex and they reproduced like crazy we named them Raisin and Snowball and they had hundreds of babies oh my god see that's my luck and boxes full somebody will say

00:09:34 - 00:09:45 | Speaker 4:

get two males and then I'll find out well the person didn't even know what sex they were and or gender and then they're gonna be like fooling me one day I'm gonna come home and there's gonna There'd be some mouse-loving going on.

00:09:45 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 8:

What did you do with all those mice, Jake?

00:09:47 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 2:

So we would just take them in full boxes. I'm not kidding. They had hundreds. We would take them just to a farm field and just drop them off. That was all we could do. Okay.

00:09:55 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 4:

Oh, jeez. Eesh. Now someone's texting at a Syrian hamster.

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 1:

Now I've got to check their passport and see what country they're in.

00:10:03 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. Are those like Ratatouille, too, where they're more expensive ones to care?

00:10:08 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, if they're going to cook for me, maybe.

00:10:10 - 00:10:14 | Speaker 6:

What is going on, Whitney? You wanted to make a comment, a very intelligent comment.

00:10:15 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 7:

I just personally think mice are not meant to be pets. When you see a mouse, you don't think pets. Me and my neighbor currently, I live in a duplex. were going on, I say, about five months of not getting along because I accidentally killed her pet mouse that ran over to my kitchen from her place, and it got loose. I'm not thinking that it's a pet. I'm thinking when I see a mouse in my kitchen, I have to kill it. I'm scared of mice. It's my number one fear. Oh, yeah.

00:10:46 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 1:

Right. We spend so much money to keep them out of our house, and then I'm going to welcome one into my house.

00:10:51 - 00:11:11 | Speaker 7:

I was literally finishing up dinner, And it crawled from under my kitchen And our kitchens are connected From the duplex And she claimed that it got loose And it somehow crawled through the walls Or something and got in my kitchen I'm not thinking, oh, let me save it It might be the neighbor's pet Like, who's thinking that?

00:11:13 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 6:

Doesn't, I mean, I know you love your daughters And I know you'd do anything for them

00:11:16 - 00:11:18 | Speaker 1:

Yes, I have done everything for them

00:11:18 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 6:

Can't you just at least

00:11:19 - 00:11:43 | Speaker 1:

Don't they love me? When do they think I start doing something for me? I try to use the excuse You know what? I used it as like inspiration to get motivated. I said, you know, Nicole, when you get a job, you'll be able to afford these things yourself. And then you want to ask me for them and you won't have to hear me say no. Well, then she went and got a job. So now I'm worried you're going to bring home a mouse. She works in a mall right next to a pet store.

00:11:43 - 00:11:57 | Speaker 6:

You can't change the game. You got to give them the opportunity to, I don't know, to fulfill the accomplishment that they already had. I think, you know what, Mojo in the Morning's Breaking and Entering Christmas wish, Grant's wish for people all the time.

00:11:59 - 00:12:00 | Speaker 1:

I'm going to get our Tamaguchi.
