This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:06 - 00:01:51 | Speaker 4:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

All right, Mojo on the morning show. I got to tell you guys a story that I realize that sometimes we're not the greatest of friends, and it happened over the weekend. So I was hanging out with the Joe Show, with Joe, Jed, Ashley, and Terry. And we're all together. We're all partying. And at the end of the night, I realized my son Joe is not as good a friend to his best buddy in the world, Jed. We all know Jed, right? We love Jed. Well, here's the reason why. And I want to ask you guys this question. if you are out drinking with friends and you see a friend about to do something like or do someone and it's not a good situation because they've had too much to drink they're about to leave with somebody and you think it's going to be a bad one do you step in and do you be the good friend

00:03:05 - 00:03:14 | Speaker 2:

saying you're going to regret this in the morning absolutely the answer is yes you and have you ever done this before absolutely the answer is yes all right i want to i want to open this up and ask you

00:03:14 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 7:

guys this question 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 and here's the reason why so we're all hanging out we're all drinking and honestly we all didn't have enough to eat to hold our drinks so any kind of drink that we were putting in our system basically it was like we got roofied for god's sakes because we were drinking uh and getting drunk so fast jed was the worst jed had more girls hitting on him than I've ever seen a human being ever have hit on him in one time. Oh, Jed. I mean, he was, first off, he should go to this pirate festival thing all the time wearing the outfit that he was wearing because he was showing off his guns and stuff like that. He had these big old muscles going on. And at the end of the night, we're all like, all right, we're going to go. I'll call the Uber. You know, I'll get a big one so that we all can drive together. And Jed came with us. And Jed goes, hey, partner, I'm not going to go with you. i'm gonna leave and go over to this girls and i go what and he you know tells me that he's gonna go hang out with these girls and i kind of stop for a second and i go you know i gotta be really careful because i start playing parent a little bit you know because jed's like a son to me so i go over to joe and i go hey joe jed's about to leave with this girl and i don't think that he's gonna wake up tomorrow morning and think that he would made a right decision why let me just say this to you this girl was a mess what do you mean uh she was first off just say she was not his type no she was no no i'm gonna be honest on it honestly if i was drunk i'd probably at his age i would have probably done her too yeah and i think that and i looked at it and i said to myself i'm like you're not gonna be happy the next day because she's definitely not a girl like it's a relationship type like she's not how do you know that you're just looking at her

00:05:00 - 00:05:02 | Unknown:

You

00:05:00 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 1:

Because if you saw what this girl was doing, first off.

00:05:02 - 00:05:05 | Speaker 6:

You can tell. Let's all be real. You can tell. And you also know your friends.

00:05:05 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 1:

You done had some wild nights too, Shannon. And you're a nice, respectable mother. Listen.

00:05:09 - 00:05:13 | Speaker 6:

Let's not judge. Yeah. Okay. Yes. Come on.

00:05:13 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 1:

I'm telling you, this girl was not good. So I go to Joe. I go, Joe, you got to step in. And Joe goes, nah, let's go. Joe is looking more for the conversation on the radio show the next day of what happened and less for I want to protect my friend.

00:05:28 - 00:05:33 | Speaker 6:

See, that's the difference in that story. Also, how did Jed feel the next morning that he woke up?

00:05:33 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 1:

He didn't say much. Did you check in with anybody? He didn't say much.

00:05:36 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 6:

Because he was ashamed.

00:05:37 - 00:05:38 | Speaker 1:

He was ashamed.

00:05:38 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 6:

Because he wishes his best buddy in the whole world, Joe, would have saved him. My dog dressed up like a pirate. It don't matter.

00:05:43 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 1:

He having a night. He trying to find some booty. He had to walk a shame from this girl's house. Jen, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning. How are you?

00:05:53 - 00:05:59 | Speaker 3:

I'm great. Joe is a bad friend. I feel like that is bad friend moves right there.

00:05:59 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 1:

I agree. I agree. And the problem was Ashley wasn't even there to help stop everything. Although I think Ashley's probably the worst of the two between Joe and her because she would have been like, yeah, Jet, go for it. Exactly.

00:06:14 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 3:

No, girls protect.

00:06:17 - 00:06:22 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, I think you've got to step in. Alex, have you ever had to step in to help a friend?

00:06:22 - 00:06:45 | Speaker 4:

yes i had to help my friend from my uncle um my uncle came to the bar and uh my friend was trying to hook up with him and i had to stop it are you sir how old your uncle compared to your your age um my friend was 21 and my uncle's in his 40s oh my god so you're so you had to like

00:06:45 - 00:06:49 | Speaker 1:

get in there and stop the insanity, stop the booty call?

00:06:50 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 4:

Yes, he was trying to get in her pants in the bar, and I had to stop it in the parking lot when he was trying to get her to go home.

00:06:59 - 00:07:02 | Speaker 1:

And your friend was into it. Your friend wanted your uncle.

00:07:03 - 00:07:05 | Speaker 4:

My friend was so plastered.

00:07:05 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 1:

Would your friend then be your aunt? How would that work out?

00:07:09 - 00:07:14 | Speaker 4:

Wait a second. My uncle also has a wife at home. Oh, God.

00:07:15 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, you did the right thing. What would you have done if your uncle got in her pants and left with her? Would you have told your aunt?

00:07:24 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 4:

I've never met his new wife. I haven't seen him in probably like 10 years.

00:07:29 - 00:07:30 | Speaker 1:

That's kind of a wild family situation.

00:07:31 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 4:

He just popped up at the bar?

00:07:32 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 1:

That's crazy. What's up, Nick? How you doing?

00:07:35 - 00:07:37 | Speaker 2:

Hey, can you hear me?

00:07:37 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 1:

I got you, Nick. Are you a good friend?

00:07:38 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 2:

I don't know. Well, it's kind of a matter of like women. look out for women and their friends. Men encourage the dumbest thing that a guy can do when he's drunk.

00:07:51 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 1:

Some would say that's looking out.

00:07:54 - 00:08:03 | Speaker 2:

My friends like if I they just have me do the dumbest stuff if I was like drunk at the bar.

00:08:03 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 6:

Share a little story with you too. Do you have an example?

00:08:07 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 2:

Well, are you familiar with mopeds?

00:08:11 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 1:

You know the term

00:08:13 - 00:08:26 | Speaker 2:

a moped do you know yeah yeah yeah it's the turn the moped it's like the oh i don't the thing you want to see your friend ride the thing that they they don't want to be riding right wait i'm running

00:08:26 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 6:

something like a grenade whistle oh this is just derogatory towards women you don't ever want to

00:08:32 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 1:

see your friend riding a moped meaning riding a bad girl that he's gonna be with i've never heard

00:08:39 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 2:

I'm not saying I've ever done that, but I've maybe encouraged it a couple times.

00:08:44 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 1:

I get it. I'm telling you. Hey, it's a ride. Hey, Lee, what's up? Lee Lee.

00:08:50 - 00:09:24 | Speaker 5:

Hey, I just, I agree with the last caller. Oh, first of all, I'm a first time long guy. Hey, Lee. But also, I just wanted to agree with the last caller. I feel like women, naturally, we kind of like protect our friends, like keep them under our wings. if we see something when we're out and we're like no that's a bad idea we make sure like no you're gonna get your ass in the car and we're leaving but with the guy i just feel like guys don't do that but like i kind of like like he said encourage it like okay this is gonna be funny

00:09:24 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 1:

this is gonna be something to talk about you know what it is women encourage anything that they can get a good instagram picture with men men encourage anything that they can get a good I just saw my friend having sex

00:09:38 - 00:09:43 | Speaker 6:

with that girl with. And radio hosts encourage anything that's going to be a great topic on the air. Oh, absolutely.

00:09:44 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 1:

I realize the problem with Joe is he learned from the worst individual ever that could be influencing him. Yeah. His dad. You said it. Not a good situation. Ryan, what's up? It's Mojo in the morning. Hi.

00:09:58 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

What's up, Mojo?

00:10:00 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 3:

First time. Hey. Ryan's on the phone. What's going on, buddy?

00:10:06 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 5:

What's going on, man? It's been my way to work. Me, personally, I believe that Joe did nothing wrong. Preach. Yeah.

00:10:13 - 00:10:17 | Speaker 3:

You're like Kevin. You guys both got no morals.

00:10:17 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 5:

Let him cook. Nah, man. If our friends are out having a wild night, I'm going to encourage the hell out of my friends to do something stupid.

00:10:29 - 00:10:33 | Speaker 3:

Okay. And reasoning is, why? You want to have one up on them, don't you?

00:10:34 - 00:10:36 | Speaker 5:

Oh, they're going to be great stories in the future.

00:10:36 - 00:10:45 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. Yeah. That's the problem with guys like you. I'm telling you. What do you mean? How old are you? You must be 25 or 30, right?

00:10:45 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, 25.

00:10:46 - 00:10:59 | Speaker 3:

So when I was 25 years old, I was like you, Ryan. I was not a nice guy. One day later in your life, you're going to grow some morals. It will happen to you. Kevin's in that same boat right now. You're around the same age with these guys.

00:10:59 - 00:11:02 | Speaker 4:

It's not about having a good time, and who am I to stop my friend from smiling?

00:11:03 - 00:11:04 | Speaker 3:

It's not about having a good time.

00:11:04 - 00:11:06 | Speaker 4:

And it's exactly what it's about.

00:11:06 - 00:11:14 | Speaker 3:

It's about having the right time. And, Dee, you're also a friend that's a pain in the ass. I just saw you up here, too. The right time. Look at you, Dee. What's going on, Dee?

00:11:16 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 6:

Hey, how you guys doing? Good morning. Dee? Great.

00:11:19 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 3:

What's up, Dee? You sound like you've left with a few that you probably shouldn't. You've had your share of mopeds, too, huh? How many, too?

00:11:26 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 7:

Yeah, hey, hey, hey. I got a few baby mamas that hate me.

00:11:30 - 00:11:37 | Speaker 3:

Oh, and that's the thing I was hoping that wouldn't happen, the baby mamas that wouldn't happen. All right.

00:11:37 - 00:11:47 | Speaker 7:

No, no, but I'm just saying I'm going to let my friend go home with somebody, depending on if he gets booty. If he doesn't get no booty, then, hey, he's got to take a stab at it. So I'm going to let him go on and venture out.

00:11:48 - 00:12:08 | Speaker 3:

Make sure that you don't ever become a friend of mine. I'll talk to you later. What's up, Mike? Hold on, Mike. You there? Yeah, I'm here, Mojo. Mike's got the story. Zach, this has got to be the story of stories for this one. We're talking about never let your friends ever leave with a bad booty call. What's going on?

00:12:08 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 6:

I still don't let this down to this day. I still hear about it because this girl ended up being a nightmare to my buddy. So we're at a party up at Central Michigan University. Fire up chips. My buddy is 20 years old, and at the time, he's still a virgin. We all rag on him for it all the time, right? So we basically get him wasted, peer pressure him into sleeping with our girl, our buddy's girlfriend's friend. And he ends up losing his virginity and getting her pregnant. And let me tell you, Mojo, this girl was like that girl where you're like, yeah, I need to get my buddy laid. That was her. No offense to her.

00:12:54 - 00:12:58 | Speaker 3:

Well, she obviously wanted to have sex. She wanted sex with him, too.

00:12:58 - 00:13:00 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, she was like, she was.

00:13:00 - 00:13:04 | Speaker 3:

And now she forever is with him. Oh, my goodness. Now she's a part of his life.

00:13:05 - 00:13:22 | Speaker 6:

Not even that. It's worse because she's like a walking hot mess. They are not together. He has to pay child support. He has to. It's been like a court nightmare. And, like, we all. And you did it. And it was all so bad. Nice job. We did do it.

00:13:22 - 00:13:24 | Speaker 3:

Nice job, friend.

00:13:24 - 00:13:31 | Speaker 6:

I am now a 30-year-old man with morals. I'm not the 25-year-old I once was.

00:13:31 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 3:

See what happens. When Kevin gets to become a little bit more mature in his ways, he will understand where I'm coming from with this one.

00:13:39 - 00:13:47 | Speaker 4:

No, nothing wrong happened in the story. He just didn't wrap it up. That's it. The story was good. That happened.

00:13:47 - 00:13:49 | Speaker 3:

All I got to say again is, fire up, chips.

00:13:52 - 00:13:54 | Speaker 6:

Have a good morning, guys. Take care of yourself.

00:13:54 - 00:14:22 | Speaker 2:

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students...

00:15:00 - 00:15:47 | Speaker 3:

educators, and business leaders have to say. My name is Neterika Terry LaMille and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us.
