Hey, Portlandia fans.

00:00:31 - 00:00:33 | Speaker 4:

Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.

00:00:33 - 00:00:36 | Speaker 6:

The dream of the 90s is alive in podcast form.

00:00:36 - 00:00:47 | Speaker 4:

We're launching Podlandia AO Rewatch, our brand new podcast where we revisit every episode of Portlandia together, breaking down sketches, going deep on our iconic characters, and pulling back the curtain on how it all got made.

00:00:48 - 00:00:59 | Speaker 5:

And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life. Guest stars, collaborators, and friends, including director Jonathan Kreisel, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin, legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.

00:01:00 - 00:01:05 | Speaker 4:

Kyle is going for it here. You fully improvised, not just words, but a song.

00:01:05 - 00:01:06 | Speaker 5:

Well, I thought you were all going to write a song.

00:01:06 - 00:01:15 | Speaker 4:

I remember you thinking that. Listen to Podlandia, A-O Rewatch on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:17 - 00:01:42 | Speaker 2:

I am a sample. Long before I'm measured, long before I'm named. Each piece of me has a message, a nuanced role. When you look beyond the average, when you see where I belong, you see why I behave the way I do. When you start looking at my details, when you include my context, I start telling you the truth. I always had a story. You just needed a way to hear it.

00:01:42 - 00:01:46 | Speaker 1:

Every sample has a story. Learn more at 10xgenomics.com.

Mojo in the Morning, phone number 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548, text 95500. So, Mike, when you were heading back yesterday to Grand Rapids from being here and hanging out in Detroit, you witnessed something that was like a near-death experience?

00:02:08 - 00:04:33 | Speaker 7:

Yeah, and I'm not sure what you're supposed to do if you narrowly escape death. I don't know the protocol. Thankfully, I've never, you know, knock on wood, I've never had to experience anything like that. But I'm driving down 96, and I see a car, and it's probably about half a mile ahead of me, maybe even shorter distance. But it swerves around another car, goes in and out of both lanes, then goes down into, like, the ditch on the side of the expressway. And, like, jumps up really high and, like, hits another hill. So the back of the car comes flying up, and then you can see the tires spinning really fast. And then he spins, and then the back tires hit. He spins, and fishtails, goes back into the expressway. Cars are still flying by him, and I'm getting closer. I'm starting to slow down at this point. And he jumps back onto it, and then fishtails onto the expressway and continues to drive. Now, it doesn't appear that he's going to stop at this point, and there's things kind of dangling from the car a little bit, but he's just driving still. And so I go to get off, I don't even remember what the exit was, but I go to get off the next exit and I see that he's getting off that exit too. So I'm like, oh, he's got to be, you know, something must have happened. His car must be smoking or something. So we end up going to the same gas station and I'm going to walk up at this point and say something. See if he's okay. Yeah, yeah. But he jumps out of his car and walks into the gas station and I'm like, he must be calling police. Like, but also nosy means like, I want to know what, like, what do you say after something like that just happened? do you call an ambulance what do you do so i'm like walking a little faster to walk in and i walk in and this dude buys a bang energy drink pays for it gets back in his car and drives off like he didn't just almost die and i'm like well hold up hold up like what do you feel like what's going on what goes through your head after you do that like because you never see that you see the nine times out of ten, you see what happens to the person when they get in a big accident and they end up, you know, you just see the end result of that. But you don't ever talk to them afterwards unless you're in that accident. And so when you come out of that and nothing happens, don't you want to check your car? Like, don't you want to look under the... He didn't look under the car. You literally almost flipped, rolled your car. He didn't look. If he drinks bang, he's probably cheating life all the time. That's true.

00:04:36 - 00:04:47 | Speaker 8:

That is funny. oh my god it's one of those things where do you ever fall slip and fall and you hope nobody's watching you and you're like i'm all right you get up you put yourself on your two feet right

00:04:47 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 7:

afterwards i guess i and i don't know like if you've ever been in a near-death experience and like what do you what goes through your head after that but i wouldn't imagine just driving off like your day just continues would be the thing i i've had the whole spin out

00:05:00 - 00:05:12 | Speaker 4:

By the way, today's a day where you got to be careful. There's, you know, like negative whatever, balls, degrees outside. And be careful of that ice because you're going to be sliding all over the place.

00:05:12 - 00:05:13 | Speaker 5:

I hit someone that way in.

00:05:13 - 00:05:40 | Speaker 4:

It's scary. And when you do it, it's probably in that same guy's place. You're just happy that you're alive, you know, and you know that your car is still moving. um 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 is uh the uh the telephone number um i don't know if there's any listeners that have ever had something like that happen to them and then just keep on driving just

00:05:40 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 1:

keep on going like don't you even if i like almost hit something i feel like i might pull off the side of the road and just go yeah right take a breather this guy was like no let's go i'm never more

00:05:51 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 2:

attentive than when i'm white knuckling it with adrenaline running through my body

00:05:54 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 4:

i saw somebody during that big snowstorm that we had where the um uh gosh there was like what 10 inches or so of snow like a week or so ago i saw somebody hanging off the side of the road what yeah like his car was hanging off here i'll show you a picture i took up i took a picture of it um he was hanging off the side of the road and i pulled up to the side to see if he was okay and if he you know needed anything and he goes yeah just trying to get to a meeting like that was like his comment that he he made as i said hey do you want me to call 9-1-1 he goes no i'm just trying

00:06:31 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 5:

to get to a meeting yeah and what and i'm like you're just unsafe dude let me help you yeah it

00:06:38 - 00:07:03 | Speaker 4:

was it was pretty and it was wild like his car if it would have gone any further would have been in the um uh completely down into the ditch area and he would i must not have saved that the the picture because it was it was so wild like it's one of those ones you ever seen the movies where the car's like hanging off of the side and if you're they're waiting to see if it

00:07:03 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 1:

goes and falls down and then when you see it happen to it almost is like is this really happening like is yeah because it's so it it all always happens fast or it always is like in a situation and we're like, oh, my God, I can't believe that just happened. Kyle.

00:07:17 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 5:

Hey, Mojo. First time caller, long time listener. Welcome. I had a person on the highway, a truck driver, that was, he just, like, blew, like, two or three tires. Like, tire shrapnel was going everywhere, and he just kept going. I don't know why he didn't stop or anything. Yeah. Do you think he didn't know? Maybe he didn't hear it or feel it? No, you could hear it. It was definitely a loud bang. Those trucks.

00:07:46 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 4:

I want to talk to you. We have all our truckers that call us up from time to time. I want to ask them, how is it that they still are driving like 55 or 60 miles an hour when we're all going 20 miles an hour, white knuckling our steering wheels, when there's like a heavy snow or ice out there? That vehicle, their semi-truck is not stopping if they hit a patch of ice, right?

00:08:10 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 5:

Well, I congratulate on getting my packages a day later, you know.

00:08:14 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 4:

Right. Exactly. Thank you for the call. What's going on, Katie?

00:08:19 - 00:08:49 | Speaker 2:

Hi. So there was one time that I was switching interstates. I was going from one highway to another highway, and I just took that, like, curving lane a little bit too fast, I guess, and I lost complete control of my car. I did a full 360 while trying to get on to the other highway. luckily no one hit me and no one was even remotely close to me but i literally just stopped on the side of the highway paused for about 10 seconds took a breath and just kept driving because what

00:08:49 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 4:

else can you do yeah keep crazy you know what you can do you can go get a bang energy drink uh what's up liz hi hi good morning how are you guys we're good what's going on

00:09:01 - 00:09:29 | Speaker 3:

um so i was driving downtown detroit um i think i was on the lodge or something and i came across a mattress in the middle of the road i was able to swerve around it but i watched in my rearview mirror as the person behind me hit it and completely flipped their car over in the middle oh no that's terrifying i was going so fast and i couldn't even pull over anywhere and i was just shaking the rest of my drive to school it was so crazy it's scary yeah when you

00:09:29 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

witness that and you know it's one of those things where i i like if i see something like that i got to pray like if i see a funeral procession drive by me i got to pray and if i see something like that happen i got to pray right away just hope that they're okay exactly thank you for the call appreciate it thanks goodbye guys all right ice cubes big three basketball is heating up before the world cup final tune into big three this sunday reigning mvp michael beasley and the Defending champion Miami 305 play a must-win game against...
