This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

My name is Neterica, Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us.

So what is devotion for those that are not as religious as you? I do believe them. So let me tell you this. So let me look at the devotion today. The devotion today was expecting promises of his presence, protection, and purpose as he works everything together for your good. And to remember to always have grace with yourself as you develop deeper spiritual readiness.

Everybody in my life will tell you that the thing that I love the most is a liar. The thing that will get under my skin more than anything in the world is a liar. And I'm a firm believer of treat others the way you want to be treated. So that's one thing I don't do is lie. All right.

And when I was single and first moved here, everybody told me to go to the Sunday night service. Yes.

I met my husband through a Shiva house.

After someone, yeah, a Shiva. So after someone dies in the Jewish religion, they have seven days of mourning, and there's 10 people come in, meet Sam, come condone the family, and I met the nephew of the person who died.

Oh, my gosh. Wait a second. Your intentions were good, though, right? You weren't going there for the only reason of meeting somebody.

Yeah.

No, I was very good friends with his cousin. How do you make the first move in that situation?

Get a phone number? Is it weird to get a phone number?

So he actually asked his cousin for my number. And then after the seven days, he texted me. I told him, yeah, I'm not interested. And then we ended up kept on talking. And then since then, it just, it went from there.

Wow.

I told him, like, the first text, I'm like, yeah, you're not my type.

But you never know. But sorry for your loss. You know what's great, though? It's great. I love being Catholic because I only have to go to, like, one funeral mass. Being Jewish, the seven days of Shiva, that's a commitment. Like, I mean, they're already dead, for God's sakes. But that's a long time.

Lydia, aren't Chaldeans that same way? Don't you mourn for a year?

Yeah, we do for about a year. We wear black, but for the first 40 days, it's like... Wait a second. And nobody can get married in that year, right? That's the reason why all Chaldeans are wearing black? Yep, that's why you wear black. You wear black for a whole year, but for mostly the 40 days if they're not as close. Yep, no celebrations, no weddings, birthdays, anniversaries. Nothing for a year. That's crazy.

I always thought that Chaldean guys just wore black polo shirts all the time just because they wear black polo shirts. I didn't realize they were mourning. What's going on, Jordan?

Hey, yeah, first time, long time. Hey, Bobby! Listen to you guys for years, but I actually met my wife in youth group when we were both in high school. She was a couple years younger than me. We went putt-putting together. We didn't end up dating for quite a few years after that, but we've been married almost seven years now and are expecting our first baby. Wow.

Were you thinking dirty thoughts about her at youth group when you were a kid?

No. Maybe.

That's the part. Think about that. If you go to church and you see a hot girl at that ass mass that Shannon's talking about, like, how do you get the dirty thoughts out of your head?

Young life in Slovenia. We were all super inappropriate there. People were hooking up.

The worst. I went to Catholic school. I went to an all guys Catholic school and the all girls Catholic school was right down the street from us. And all the girls would wear those Catholic school girl, like, you know, the outfits. Skirts. And to me, it was like, oh, what? Why are they thought that they're wearing those things actually was a good thing. You know what I mean? It was not a good thing. Did you have to wear a uniform when you went to Catholic church or Catholic school?

Yeah.

Did you hate it or no?

I loved it, but I was lazy, so I liked just the availability of an easy outfit every day.
