The World Cup is underway, and it's been incredible. On our podcast, The Away End, with Daniel Alarcon and John Green, we're talking about the games that have delighted us, the teams that have inspired us, what we're loving and what surprised us, all through the lens of being massive fans of the world's most beautiful game.

00:00:29 - 00:00:43 | Speaker 3:

Daniel, this tournament has been magical so far. There's so much to love, and I can hardly believe the drama that the group stage brought us. And now it's time for us to talk about the teams that are left as the field is whittled down to one World Cup champion on July 19th.

Hidden Florida and Beyond with Mark Wahlberg, May 21st.

00:01:39 - 00:01:49 | Speaker 8:

All right, it is Mojo in the Morning show. Last night, all the kids trick-or-treating around neighborhoods. Shannon, you saw something. Was it last night or the night before or something? When was it?

00:01:49 - 00:03:00 | Speaker 9:

Yeah, I saw a woman who was probably about my height, and I am exactly five feet tall. So I'm pretty short. But a woman who is about my height, she was very petite. She's a mom. And she had a child strapped onto her chest. You know those like baby wraps? Baby Bjorns? It wasn't actually a baby Bjorn. It was like a wrap, like a fabric wrap. But she had a child strapped onto her chest. And I say child and not baby because it was a big kid. It wasn't a baby. this child was almost as big as she was and she had him strapped onto her chest first off i don't know how she fell forward his his feet were probably like maybe eight inches are you sure it wasn't a costume it was not a costume it would okay it would be like me strapping smith to my chest one of those things and i wanted to be like poor thing he can walk or push him in a stroller if he's too tired to walk but she just wasn't letting up that baby was strapped to her chest

00:03:00 - 00:03:07 | Speaker 8:

maybe it still happens but do you remember the days when Smith and Lucy didn't want to walk anymore when you were out trick-or-treating and you had to carry them did you ever have to do that at all

00:03:07 - 00:03:11 | Speaker 9:

I did a wagon yeah I would do a wagon

00:03:11 - 00:03:23 | Speaker 8:

can I talk about how we have made our kids fatter by doing that do you remember did your parents ever Tim Murphy never pulled you in a wagon or pushed you in a stroller or carried you in a baby Bjorn, did he?

00:03:23 - 00:03:32 | Speaker 9:

He never did the baby Bjorn. I always remember riding on my dad's shoulders. That was like his go-to method of if I was tired, I got on my dad's shoulders.

00:03:32 - 00:03:35 | Speaker 8:

But even with trick-or-treating, huh? Yeah. No wonder why the poor guy's got bad knees.

00:03:35 - 00:03:42 | Speaker 9:

Yeah. He's got to carry

00:03:42 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 8:

his daughters around all the time.

00:03:44 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 9:

But you guys, this poor woman. I'm like, oh, she's either real sad that he is not a baby anymore. and he's passed that phase what is up with no i want to hear i want to hear people tell me this

00:03:58 - 00:04:21 | Speaker 8:

story what is up with kids and i'm that guy by the way get off my lawn but what is up with kids that don't want to walk they don't want to trick-or-treat they don't want to walk kev said last hour i'm going to say this because it was the most asinine thing that's ever come out of that beautiful face how fired up he is he stood up he said last hour that the people passing the candy out should come to you and you don't go to the door. You have

00:04:21 - 00:04:39 | Speaker 7:

no idea, bro, how long these driveways are. It's ridiculous, bro. And then you get up there and they give you three candies. Like me. Three candies is a lot. Not when they like the baby sauce. It feels like Little Red Ryder. We have to go through the forest. As far as hell, bro. It's literally far. Oh, my God.

00:04:40 - 00:04:45 | Speaker 9:

I got to show you this. Next year, Kev's going in a golf cart. I call it now. He's renting a golf cart for Halloween.

00:04:45 - 00:04:58 | Speaker 8:

Have you seen those things going through neighborhoods? I saw that in Waterford. I'm driving down Crescent Lake Road yesterday, and there's a dad driving his kids on a golf cart. I mean, do you realize that kid's going to be growing up to be 8,000 pounds?

00:04:59 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 4:

I'll be fat.

00:05:00 - 00:05:04 | Speaker 8:

Can we get back to these big, fat-ass kids who's, like, too old for these strollers? Yeah.

00:05:05 - 00:05:16 | Speaker 9:

Yes. Let's talk about that. Let's talk about walking around, you know, the mall. That's where I see them. And you see the kids that are way too old for these strollers. What's the age limit on strollers?

00:05:17 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 8:

It's the mall for me, bro. And they look like they annoy when they got to get out. And they struggle to get out. They get out with their elbows first. It's like, uh, uh, uh. Like, bro, let that boy walk.

00:05:28 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 9:

The kid drove himself to the mall, but he can't walk. Hold on. Hold on. I'm looking at it. Feet dragging. Stroller.

00:05:36 - 00:05:39 | Speaker 5:

You act like we were a generation that had motorized scooters.

00:05:40 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 9:

Yeah, that's why we all have to- For recreation.

00:05:45 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 5:

You did. These aren't mobility wagons. These are recreation family time wagons.

00:05:51 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 9:

It all started with electric bikes, and they made electric bikes.

00:05:54 - 00:05:58 | Speaker 6:

Oh, I know. Smith wanted one of those, and I'm like, dude, no, you pedal.

00:05:58 - 00:06:06 | Speaker 9:

Yeah. what's going on uh 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 you have any idea how heavy you are

00:06:06 - 00:06:20 | Speaker 6:

by the way this this this kid that i'm speaking of was not he was not like a chunky kid like i know that you said that and he was chit-chatting like he was having a conversation it was like

00:06:20 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 9:

talking to it was smith yeah i'm too big for that um somebody texted and said uh was the kid disabled no he was not disabled you saw him actually get out of there and walk he walked

00:06:31 - 00:06:50 | Speaker 6:

on his own two legs well no i never saw him walk because he was strapped to his mom oh so how do you know he wasn't disabled though maybe his legs were um he i mean he could have been in all fairness he could have been he i mean i was listening to him have a conversation with his mom like a five five year old i don't know how old he was five one seven says why is mojo being

00:06:50 - 00:07:07 | Speaker 9:

such a douchebag you're obviously one of the fat kids that's in the stroller or you're the one that's carrying your kid around i mean come on if the kid's able-bodied and he's and he's in a stroller and he's bigger than the mom there's a problem what's up kaden how you doing okay

00:07:07 - 00:07:19 | Speaker 4:

what's up can you hear me hey yeah i can hear you can you hear me yeah what's going on good morning i've seen a truck pulling a trailer that was decorated throwing candy at everybody

00:07:20 - 00:07:20 | Speaker 9:

Oh, really?

00:07:21 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 8:

Like Mardi Gras.

00:07:22 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 5:

I kind of like that.

00:07:25 - 00:07:26 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, it was cool.

00:07:26 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 5:

Wait, so that's not lazy and out of hands.

00:07:29 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 6:

No, they're giving out candy that way. I love that.

00:07:32 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 5:

Walk around and throw it at the children.

00:07:35 - 00:07:37 | Speaker 4:

I've seen five golf carts driving around, too.

00:07:38 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 9:

Yeah.

00:07:39 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, okay. Then if you have a golf cart at the golf course, are you all lazy? You should be walking with your bag. She's looking at me. Look at her looking at me. No, because you're golfing. No, I'm... Buddy, I agree with you. I'm trying to call them out with you. This is aggressive calling out.

00:07:55 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 6:

Also, when it comes to Halloween, your children are going to be so hyped up on so much sugar, they should be running so that they're actually tired when it comes time for bed.

00:08:04 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 9:

Sarah, what's up? Mojo in the morning, hi.

00:08:06 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 2:

We trick-or-treat and pass out candy from our golf cart.

00:08:10 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 9:

Oh, you do? You guys.

00:08:13 - 00:08:30 | Speaker 2:

The houses are so far, and our neighborhood is a huge neighborhood and we literally sit from our golf car and go hey we have candy little kids wait by the way that might be that might be something you shouldn't do

00:08:30 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 1:

is it a white golf cart what's up rebecca hi so i just wanted to say i get where kevin's coming from because this was my first year trick-or-treating with my one-year-old and the house is in rochester hills it's so long to them doors so i was like really grateful for the people that were like in the driveways and i could just put this um stroller up the driveway like yeah here you go and then like when i got tired of carrying him i was going up to the doors and people were looking at me like why is this 30 year old trick-or-treating that's the other one the parents

00:09:07 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 9:

that go to the door for their kids their kids don't want to walk up the door not so josiah I wasn't doing that. Hey, by the way, I just want you to know something. Next time, I'm just going to put the candy in my mailbox. Just reach in there and go grab it. What's going on, Motion?

00:09:21 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 3:

Ooh. So, you know, times have changed a lot because back then, you know, we had to walk for miles. Yeah. Uphill, both ways. No wagons, no scooters, no nothing. And we had to carry pillowcases. Yeah. No dumping them out.

00:09:34 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 6:

That is my day. I loved having the pillowcases.

00:09:37 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 3:

How old are you, Motion?

00:09:39 - 00:09:43 | Speaker 9:

I'm 40. Yeah. I'm sure he's not like 83.

00:09:43 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 8:

Yeah, he's got a 2024 name, though. That is a great name. John, what's going on, John?

00:09:50 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 4:

Hey, it's not just kids. I've seen grown people, nothing wrong with them riding around in those electric carts in Meyers. You're done!

00:10:00 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 5:

You don't know. I do that. Oh, no, no. These are people, they ain't nothing wrong when they're like 30 years old. You don't know. And their kids are riding around in these things, too. The whole damn family has seen them. It's like Cedar Point. That's what it is. Hold on a little caravan run. Look at them like you lazy asses. Because I'm 58 and I walk around the store. What do they call them? Invisible disabilities? There are invisible ones.

00:10:26 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 9:

What's up, Emily?

00:10:28 - 00:10:30 | Speaker 5:

Hey, good morning. Good. How's it going?

00:10:30 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 9:

What's going on?

00:10:32 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 5:

Not much. So I was just going to say, like, anytime I see parents who, like, over baby their children, like, for example, it makes me think of the scene from Grown Up 2 where the mom's, like, breastfeeding her son at the church or whatever at the house. And he's, like, six years old or whatever. And I'm like, it's ridiculous. So I don't know. I feel like over child over children.

00:10:57 - 00:10:59 | Speaker 7:

Oh, you got to see it. It's good. It's a good movie.

00:10:59 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 9:

This time I talk to scientists, biopunks, curmudgeons, blues owners, super seniors, and Goa's top cryotherapy lab to try to understand this obsession with living forever and what it means for all of us. And I get into a bit of trouble along the way.

00:12:44 - 00:12:49 | Speaker 1:

I'd say probably start bone smashing. That doesn't work. Make it look more defined. They say it works. I don't know.
