home of the phone scams dirty on the 30 and the war of the roses mojo in the morning

00:01:09 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 2:

so mike this is legit huh a crying room i had never heard of this before maybe uh people have this at their jobs and i just didn't know it was a thing but the grand rapids brewing company has a room that they call their crying room which is basically if a co-worker is having a bad day if you're at the bar i mean they when they were showing me around the place they it was the first thing they showed me if if somebody at the uh the bar is having a moment and they just need to step maybe there's a public breakup and they need to step away and just have a good cry you that you can go back in this room handle your business have a have a good cry come back out and and go

00:01:52 - 00:01:58 | Speaker 3:

back and do what you're doing so the staff can use it but also customers can use it too yeah yeah

00:01:58 - 00:02:25 | Speaker 2:

that's the they were giving me a tour that's the first thing they showed me was that room what does the room look like uh it's really just a back room like there's nothing there it would be a good idea to have more things like a couch and a tv and maybe stuff like that but it was just a back room i think that that it was maybe something new or something they're kind of toying around with but But I was telling Megan and Schmitty about this during Irish and Ionia, and they're like, Megan, didn't you say you have one, or you had one at a different job?

00:02:25 - 00:02:34 | Speaker 5:

I had one at a different job. It was the cooler at the back of a restaurant I worked at, and it was a specific cooler because we had three of them, and one of them was definitely for crying.

00:02:36 - 00:02:37 | Speaker 2:

That's a genius idea.

00:02:37 - 00:02:50 | Speaker 5:

And then I have one here as well. There's an old office here that nobody is assigned to anymore, and everybody knows that the door's closed. You're just having a moment. in there. And it's a sad moment and you need your space. So if you

00:02:50 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 3:

are getting a little emotional or feel like your emotions are coming on and you don't want to cry in front of people, you go into the room and just do the crying. Just go

00:02:58 - 00:03:00 | Speaker 5:

back in there and do it. Is it

00:03:00 - 00:03:06 | Speaker 3:

like psychotic of me that I like to cry in front of people? I don't know why that is. I'm fine with it.

00:03:06 - 00:03:16 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, but I feel like you crying in front of people people are like, oh, you're so vulnerable. I really appreciate this about you. When I cry, people are like, get it together.

00:03:16 - 00:03:41 | Speaker 4:

That might be true. All right. The manager of Grand Rapids Brewing Company pointed out to me when I got there during the broadcast, and I thought she was joking at first. And then I thought, well, what a sad state of affairs that we need a place for servers to go hide and get a good cry in, you know? And I think it also – it's one of those occupations that people are just ruder to servers than I think maybe any other that I could think of.

00:03:43 - 00:03:51 | Speaker 3:

844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548. 6548 any listeners have a room that they go to uh maybe it's not actually the

00:03:51 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 2:

quote unquote or technical crying room i have a favorite bathroom that i go to if i get really mad like to the like if they ever tell me hey you can't go on vacation like there's a favorite bathroom here it's also the poop bathroom it's the bathroom that i'll go wait so it's wait a

00:04:05 - 00:04:10 | Speaker 3:

second hold on it's the bathroom that you go to when you get mad so it's the mad room uh it would

00:04:10 - 00:04:36 | Speaker 2:

be yeah yeah so if i got angry and didn't want to like shout in my office and didn't want to I just take a moment, take a breather. It's also where you can take the best poop at. But it just happens to be the same place because nobody goes down there. It's the bathroom in the basement. Why is it the best poop bathroom? Because nobody goes down there. Okay. So you're alone. So it's not that the toilet's more comfortable than any other toilet? No, it kind of looks like a scary scene from like a scary movie. Like it looks like Friday the 13th kind of boy in the room type thing.

00:04:36 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 4:

When I was in the food industry, it was always the walk-in freezer. That's the place everybody goes to cry.

00:04:41 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 3:

That was the emotional area, and then did the cold kind of help you, too?

00:04:46 - 00:04:48 | Speaker 4:

I think it's just the one place you're not going to be seen.

00:04:49 - 00:04:51 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. What's going on, Mojo in the Morning, Eric?

00:04:52 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. My work actually has a meditation room, and it's actually really, really helpful. It's not necessarily.

00:05:00 - 00:05:38 | Speaker 5:

does take nature to crying people can like get stressed out going there like that out and then like they also have like blankets and stuff so like people that are uh is it is it the muslim religion where they pray a lot and stuff like that so yeah so they what do you do what kind of work okay what do you do first i'm a i'm a software developer okay that's cool what what is in that room um so like there's like one chair uh like a comfortable chair there's like uh radio so that you can put like nature sounds on and then like there's a basket like full blanket so like if you're gonna sit on the floor or something like that you can lay one out and

00:05:38 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 4:

kind of do your thing i think it's very cool your office offers that i still don't know if it helped me because i'm still at work and i know right on the other side of that wall is the guy that just totally annoyed me like i i'm still there it's too close i don't know but it's cool they offer

00:05:54 - 00:05:56 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, no, it's great. It helps me out.

00:05:57 - 00:06:13 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's wild. Mojo in the morning. By the way, we got to designate maybe some of the rooms around here. I'm going to go into J Tower's studio, and that will be my crying room. While he's in the midst of the show playing, like, some very sad song probably at the time.

00:06:13 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 4:

We have a crying room right next door, but it's just because the computers just froze up while we were editing audio, and we have to start all over again.

00:06:19 - 00:06:20 | Speaker 3:

What's going on, Melanie?

00:06:20 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 4:

You need a farting room. There you go. We're sitting in it.

00:06:25 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 3:

Thanks, Eric. Eric, I'll go to you next. What's up, Eric?

00:06:29 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 4:

See you, Eric.

00:06:30 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 3:

Thanks, buddy. What's going on, Melanie?

00:06:33 - 00:06:34 | Speaker 2:

Good morning.

00:06:35 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 3:

Hey, what's up?

00:06:37 - 00:06:46 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm a server by trade, and I'll speak for many servers. We all go to the walk-in. We go to the walk-in to scream. We go there to shout. We go there to cry.

00:06:47 - 00:07:07 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I just got a text from Laura from Eddie's, one of our favorite restaurants. Laura's the best. She's a hardcore Mojo in the Morning listener, which, by the way, Laura, we are doing Naughty Mom's Night Out coming up here soon, and we'll announce that soon. But she says that she goes into their cooler to do the same exact thing, to scream. Who are you screaming about, coworkers or customers?

00:07:08 - 00:07:14 | Speaker 2:

Both, but mostly customers because we get a lot of crap.

00:07:16 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, it's not just crying to get out of sight. I forgot the walk-in freezer is so thick that you can scream and nobody will hear you.

00:07:23 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 3:

Can I bring something up real quick, Melody, to tail end on this topic here about these rooms since you're a server at a restaurant? So yesterday I was eating at a restaurant, okay, and it's Coney Island, and I was quickly grabbing something to eat for lunch, and I was by myself, and the woman that was sitting in the booth behind me was chewing on her ice, like not for a second, but the entire time that she was sitting down there. She was like crunching on her ice. And it went on for so long and got to be so annoying. And you know what that feels like, by the way, when somebody chews on ice, it like gets into your nervous system, right? The people that were on the opposite side of her, like we were sandwiching the ice chewer in, they got up and asked to move across the restaurant because they couldn't take it anymore.

00:08:16 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 1:

It was that bad.

00:08:17 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 3:

Melanie, as a server in a restaurant, do I have the right to tell that woman to cut the F out? Melanie? Oh, she hung up the phone. She's in the room. Melanie. Wait, no, she's in the cooler. Did she get, oh, she disconnected from me. Do I have the right to say, if somebody, first off, if my wife was there with me and I was the one doing that, she will tell me to stop it. Like, she'll tell me if I'm really loud chewing. she'll, like, say, stop that. But if I was chewing on ice, she would tell me to stop that. Don't I have the right to tell this person to stop that? No. No?

00:08:56 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 1:

But I'm surprised knowing you, because you can be at times, as we all can be, by the way, slightly passive-aggressive, that you didn't say out loud, wow, somebody's chewing their ice, really.

00:09:07 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 3:

What was that noise? Maybe that's the way I needed to do it. Maybe that was it. Maybe I needed to say that to her. but it was so bad and if so if you're in so if you're in public and if a person is making like crazy loud noises or doing something you don't have the right to say um can you like uh stop that

00:09:27 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 1:

well you do of course you have the right to say i mean i'm not trying to be a karen or anything

00:09:31 - 00:09:43 | Speaker 3:

like that i'm trying just to basically i would have helped that other table and myself not have to like have to deal with who's i are you guys ice chewers maybe you guys oh megan i know it's

00:09:43 - 00:09:51 | Speaker 2:

worst no it's not it's just a satisfying texture it's a satisfying texture yeah that you have to

00:09:51 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 3:

do it and annoy everybody else that is around you i just don't care about other people

00:09:56 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 4:

there's 20 kinds of annoying people

00:10:00 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 1:

at a restaurant so you just have to take your chances you can always ask for a new table it's

00:10:03 - 00:10:58 | Speaker 3:

over there well i what i ended up doing was when those people left and did it i sat there for a little bit longer and then the waitress came over and i said hey did they move because of the ice chewer and she's like oh my god it's so obnoxious you can hear it across the restaurant i'm like i'm going to the counter and i sat at the counter and i could still barely hear it and she's and i said to her i go hey can you do me a favor when you go over there to refill her water take her glass away and give her water with no ice like take her ice away from her because it's got to stop has anybody you can always do what shannon does every time i chew gum oh my god that right there it it by the way it's the most juicy chew i've ever heard in my life you do have a juicy chew thank you it's like i keep waiting for it's like a like a horse to come in it drives my wife

00:10:58 - 00:11:02 | Speaker 2:

nuts too i don't know why i do it but you know what good for you for chewing gum rather than

00:11:02 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 6:

smoking what's up erica it's mojo in the morning hello i i was just gonna let you guys know that like um when i took a psychology class in college um they told me that chewing ice is a form of a

00:11:15 - 00:11:47 | Speaker 3:

sign of sexual frustration oh my gosh looking at this woman i don't know if maybe it was sexual frustration i i mean she was just going at it and i looked at her i'm like holy crap i i felt for whoever she was going home to that night because i'm thinking if she does this at home could you imagine how much that would uh i'm not gonna have any people i know i i wanted to actually call up dr depilla and and say something to him about it and say have hey can you tell her to Stopped chewing the ice like that?

00:11:48 - 00:11:49 | Speaker 6:

Maybe she was dieting.

00:11:49 - 00:12:20 | Speaker 3:

That might be it. Maybe that's what it is. Sometimes you act like that. What's up, mom? Oh, I lost you. There's another person that gets annoyed by the chewing of ice. What noise annoys you more? Like, is there the chewing sound, somebody chewing ice, slurping noise, a person that, like, eats popcorn? Some people can't deal with that. Like in a movie theater, when it gets really quiet, do you ever find yourself putting popcorn in your mouth and you're like sucking on it because you don't want to chew it because you know you're gonna annoy everybody?

00:12:20 - 00:12:24 | Speaker 1:

How about the humming while they're eating? No, that's just people have a good time.

00:12:24 - 00:12:37 | Speaker 2:

Stop it, stop it, people are enjoying themselves. No, it crosses, like when Tim does it, Tim Murphy does it, it's mm-hmm. Yeah, like making love to his food. And he knows I hate it. A little bit of shoulder wiggle.

00:12:37 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 5:

A shoulder wiggle, I do like a shoulder wiggle. That's good. And people who bite their forks.

00:12:42 - 00:12:43 | Speaker 3:

Oh, biking.

00:12:43 - 00:12:51 | Speaker 5:

Or how about people who scrape the bottom of their yogurt container so loud my teeth actually hurt. Like my coho sitting to my right.

00:12:51 - 00:12:53 | Speaker 1:

I do it just for you now.

00:12:54 - 00:12:56 | Speaker 3:

It's like, I'll buy you another yogurt.

00:12:56 - 00:13:05 | Speaker 2:

And now I know. No, he started bringing two. So it's like I get an encore. What's up, Jodi?

00:13:06 - 00:13:15 | Speaker 4:

Hi. Hey, what's going on? My sister does the scraping. When we eat, she's scraping forks on her teeth as she pulls the fork out of her mouth.

00:13:15 - 00:13:17 | Speaker 2:

It hurts your teeth, too.

00:13:18 - 00:13:21 | Speaker 4:

At one point, I set out plastic forks when she comes over.

00:13:22 - 00:13:25 | Speaker 2:

That's so genius. Good job. What's up, Chelsea?

00:13:26 - 00:13:55 | Speaker 5:

Hi. So my ex-sister-in-law used to let my niece and nephew, who I love very, very much. They're great kids. But she used to, when she would go out to eat with any of us, she would just let her kids run amok and make us chase them around the restaurant. I literally had to chase my nephew around a giant Texas roadhouse for like 10 minutes because I couldn't catch him because he kept weaving in and out of tables. And she just sat there and let me do it.

00:13:55 - 00:13:58 | Speaker 2:

It's hard to run, too, with peanuts everywhere on the floor, too.

00:13:58 - 00:14:08 | Speaker 3:

It's hard to run around the rest. It is funny how oblivious some parents are, though. It's almost kind of like they don't even realize that their child is doing that. What's up, Drew?

00:14:10 - 00:14:11 | Speaker 1:

How's it going? Good morning.

00:14:11 - 00:14:12 | Speaker 3:

What's going on, Drew?

00:14:13 - 00:14:25 | Speaker 1:

So when you're at a restaurant and you hear people chew with their mouth open, that is the worst. That's like one of me and my mom's biggest pet peeves.

00:14:25 - 00:14:27 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's a popular one on the text, too.

00:14:27 - 00:14:40 | Speaker 3:

My wife would want you in a restaurant with me so that you'd come up and yell at me for that because she says I open mouth, chew all the time. Thank you for the call, buddy. Appreciate it, Drew.

00:14:41 - 00:14:43 | Speaker 2:

I'm worried about him.

00:14:44 - 00:14:48 | Speaker 3:

Very mellow. Hopefully he's not driving right now. What's up, Danielle?

00:14:49 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 6:

Hey. I would say, honestly, like when they're chewing, they're slurping their noodles. my grandma's japanese and that's like a custom if they're good you flirt it's gross

00:15:00 - 00:15:15 | Speaker 3:

grosses me out that is by the way i was thinking about that that must be a japanese custom because i have a japanese friend that does the same thing too when when you know we'll go out for food it was like like they maybe that's that's a sign to the chef that it was good it is and you're like

00:15:15 - 00:15:19 | Speaker 1:

i get it it's good but you're grossing me out i'm gonna be sick yeah it's funny thank you for the

00:15:19 - 00:15:28 | Speaker 3:

call kelly uh what is it that you do that your husband doesn't like um so i swallow really loudly

00:15:28 - 00:15:58 | Speaker 1:

and my husband and i've been together for 15 years he like will look over and laugh at me if we're sitting alone together and it's so bad that if i'm in a quiet room with other people i get nervous to swallow because i've realized it's so loud it just is it one of those like one of those type of things yeah he says it's like this gold thing and i'm like i don't do it on purpose But it's so loud. You can hear it across the room.

00:15:59 - 00:16:04 | Speaker 3:

That's funny. Everybody's listening to this thing right now, giggling over a wife saying that her husband doesn't like when you do that.

00:16:06 - 00:16:06 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:16:08 - 00:16:14 | Speaker 3:

Thanks, guys. Love you so much. We appreciate it. All right. Mojo in the Morning. We don't hold hands.
