This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I'm mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great. You know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, As of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. My cousin, big shout out to Gerard, hit me up and said, we're getting a new couch. In about a day or two, can you come over and assist me in moving our current couch out the house? Now, first and foremost, I'm not that guy. I'm not the guy you call when you want to move furniture. uh i've never been that guy for one i don't like doing stuff like that two i'm not like the weakest person in the world but like strength ain't like in my top five qualities like when you when i put like who is kevin like strength ain't gonna be there at least from a physical standpoint so i'm like but that's like my brother so i can't just be like oh my god and this is like last night it's like nine o'clock last night i'm like all right i don't want to do this But anyway, I do it. And he texts me like, I got wings and drinks. Like, that was going to be my payment. Like, that's all that was for, like, the little amount of strength that I have to come use to move this big-ass couch out of your house.

That's not a fair exchange.

I don't think so. I don't know what I want, but pizza and wings, that ain't really it.

I always love when people want you to help them move, and they go, yeah, we'll order pizzas. I'm like, you know what? I'm not going to a – if I want to go to a pizza party, I'll go to a pizza party. I'm not going to a moving party that turns into a pizza party. That's too much. Moving is brutal. Worse than moving is asking friends to move. When you have to ask friends to help you move, because it doesn't make a difference how good of friends they are. They could have saved your life giving you the Heimlich maneuver or mouth-to-mouth resuscitation at the last time you saw them, and still moving bedroom furniture is not fun.

right side of the U-Haul. I remember one time we helped a friend move. Chelsea and I helped friends move. And the guy was too damn cheap to upsize the U-Haul. So we had to go back and do the trip like three times. And it was like 30, 40 minutes away from where we were at. I'm like, wait, we just wasted all this time because you didn't want to spend an extra $125 buying the appropriate size.

And the amount of time that it takes, you could have just paid the people.

No, my son, the brilliant one, said, no, we'll just take the money and we'll get a U-Haul. I'll fly you out, Dad, and then we'll use a U-Haul. We'll drive many hours. You idiot! Don't even get me started. Yeah, but how much money was it? I got a pizza. How much money was it? How much money were they going to give them? I think his expense account was like $12,000 or something like that. Of course.

But did they offer you anything more than a pizza? No.

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website.
