America's social casino. It's Mojo on the Morning Show. Sometimes this can actually be harder than breaking up with a relationship, like a boyfriend or girlfriend or a husband or wife a friend of mine recently realized that he's like a got a different thing going on in his life right now he's now married he's got a new baby recently got a promotion at work and it seems like everything in his life is growing up except for his friends he's got like a few friends that are kind of like still stuck in the days of you know always going out and getting drunk and trying to pick up you know girls and you know acting like fools well he has told me that he's going to have a talk with these guys and tell them that he doesn't know if he can be friends with them anymore because he thinks it puts him in a bad spot with his relationship with his marriage and i thought to myself i'm like wow that's kind of an interesting thing that you're doing because I don't think I've ever done that. I think that I just like maybe slowed down and just didn't go out, you know, but I never like physically or verbally said, I'm, you know, not going to hang out with you anymore. But I thought this actually could be a really good topic to bring up on the air. Has anybody ever had a friendship breakup where they told their friends that they couldn't be friends with them anymore? and and I'm not talking about just ghosting them or just you know not being part of their life anymore or not calling them I'm talking like had a conversation with them where you said we are no longer going to be be friends and what was the reason why you have yes yeah Mike yeah yeah I had

00:03:31 - 00:04:07 | Speaker 7:

a friend group breakup I used to party pretty like in my college days pretty hard pretty pretty pretty hard um and I actually ended up stopped like I quit drinking for like five years uh because I'd gotten in some trouble and I'd made some life choices that weren't the best. And I decided at that point, I'm going to stop. I need to change my life. I was just early into dating Allie. And I realized at that point, once you stop, like all those people disappear. So you didn't say anything to them. You just stopped. Well, then I had a conversation because after a few years went by, people started reaching out to me again. Because, again, they just disappear right away.

00:04:07 - 00:04:08 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:04:08 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 7:

they reached out to me again and I'm like guys I'm not doing that anymore that's not my like I don't want to go out and party every single night I don't want to go uh try to find girls I don't want to be a wingman I don't want to put myself in a position where you're going to screw something up for me even though I'm not doing anything wrong me being in that situation is going to jeopardize my relation and it did at one point because even like attempting to hang out with them again you know Allie and I went through a break and I'm like all right well I'm gonna go back to hang out with these guys again and this is where i need and and immediately realized that that is a terrible it was a terrible decision they took you back uh they did they did but i

00:04:46 - 00:04:56 | Speaker 1:

it was a bad decision i do believe that there are some friendships that last forever and there are some friendships that only for the moment their person or their purpose is for just a season in

00:04:56 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 5:

your life uh kp you were going to say something you you actually had a friendship

00:05:00 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 1:

breakup yes recently so actually last week um there's this girl that I met when I lived up in Traverse City and um it just got to the point where communication wasn't very good and she was having some self-esteem issues that we would talk about and I felt like I was being super supportive but it got to be too much to me to the point of like she was replacing therapy with sessions with me and as much as I loved her it just it wasn't working and she ended up texting me saying you know i can't give what you deserve in this friendship and i and i said back to her you're like i see that but and i agree like i really need to set this boundary you need to start being like more open with communication so that it's fair with me or else it's not going to work and and it sucked like she she unfollowed me on all social just to like separate and it hurt but it's like that's what you just got to do sometimes like some friendships just don't work wow uh allison

00:05:51 - 00:06:04 | Speaker 4:

what's going on we're talking about friendship breakups and i don't want to get too deep and too sad but this is real stuff what's going on good morning morning so i was just saying i think

00:06:04 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 3:

sometimes it's a little bit more of like drinking buddies obviously i don't know what this guy has going on but maybe they're more of like a group of like good drinking hanging out buddies i think when you're really actually like friends friends it won't matter where you're at in your life yeah

00:06:19 - 00:06:48 | Speaker 4:

well here and that's the thing you're absolutely right with that i you when i was the youngest to get married in my friendship group like i had married got kids right away and the guys that were like truly the the buddies i liked they adjusted to me i didn't adjust to them not i'm not saying that they didn't get to have fun they we still had fun but the whole idea of going out and getting wasted and stuff was not cool right you know respecting where each person is in their

00:06:48 - 00:06:53 | Speaker 3:

life and then the friendship is what kind of keeps it leveled out.

00:06:53 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 4:

I will never forget by the way because I like I said got married and had kids so much sooner when I took our family van for a guy's night out once. And I'm going to say this. Your guy friends loved that. They all thought it was like the coolest you know the swagger wagon or whatever the heck they call it.

00:07:13 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 5:

Did you end up finding new dad friends? Oh yeah.

00:07:17 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 4:

Well, you start meeting them, but you don't meet them right away when you have kids because your kids don't go do stuff, but you meet them at other kids' stuff.

00:07:24 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 5:

That's what I mean. I'm excited for that. I'm in that era of my kids are young enough where they're starting to make friends, and I can start to make friends with their parents and stuff. I'm excited for that.

00:07:32 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 4:

Oh, the best friends I think that you ever get, too, are the ones that you meet from your kids in school. What's up, Alex?

00:07:39 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 2:

Good morning. How are you guys?

00:07:40 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 4:

We're good. What's going on? We're talking about friendship breakups.

00:07:43 - 00:08:29 | Speaker 2:

yeah so i had a best friend from like first grade through half of college and obviously when you go off to college you make you know everlasting friends and so i did that and after college i was kind of spending more time with them than her not purposely we had just kind of you know distanced ourselves from each other for no no apparent reason and she would start getting super jealous about me spending more time with my college friends like you're choosing them over me How could you do this? You didn't write me a long enough birthday post, but their birthday post, it turned like a psycho boyfriend. So I had to tell her, I don't think this is healthy anymore. I'll always support you from the sidelines, but I don't think we were the same friends we once were.

00:08:29 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 4:

Do you ever see her anymore?

00:08:32 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 2:

Here and there. We both have kids now and again, so we'll wish each other well.

00:08:38 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 4:

Oh, jeez. I'm sorry. Did I just hang up on her? Was that me breaking up with her Or no I can't believe I just did that

00:08:47 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 5:

It's a clean break

00:08:48 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 4:

I literally had I'm not kidding you When I say this to you I had a finger twitch That all of a sudden Pushed the next button I apologize in that one Call us back Nancy what's up Nance

00:09:02 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 3:

Hi Nancy

00:09:04 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

She's stuck in the middle Of traffic right now And cannot hear us On her Amazing you know what it is the car companies do they ever listen to us your like in car audio stuff is bad like it's listen to that listen to that noise is yours delayed too yeah it's a little bit like it's got like a something wrong with it goodbye Nancy I have to let you go too as a friend I apologize guys. This has been a very sad moment in my life, but I thought that we were going to last forever. We're just at different places of our life. You're in a windy place and I'm indoors in an indoor studio with no wind noise. Hear that? No wind noise on my end. I'm coming to you next, Eric.

00:10:00 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 1:

Hi, Erica.

00:10:02 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 3:

Hi. I just want to say, first of all, I'm a first-time caller, really long-time listener. Welcome. And I freaking love you guys so much. I love you, too. So I was active-duty military, and when I went over to Germany, I was in Germany for three years. I was a single mom there, and I met another single mom, and we became the best of friends. We were so close that people thought that we were lesbians, and we did everything together. Our sons became best friends. We partied. It was amazing, and I even got orders to my next place to be with her again.

00:10:51 - 00:10:52 | Speaker 4:

Wow.

00:10:52 - 00:11:08 | Speaker 3:

And when I met my husband, her first comment to me was, you need to be careful because he's probably a pedophile that only wants to be with you because he wants to get to your son.

00:11:08 - 00:11:10 | Speaker 1:

Why would she say that?

00:11:10 - 00:11:14 | Speaker 4:

Was she just kind of controlling and jealous about your relationship?

00:11:14 - 00:11:59 | Speaker 3:

I thought that was a part of it because she had had really bad relationships with men in the past, and at the time she was dating a married man, and it was just really rocky, and even when my husband came to visit before we got married, we wanted them to meet each other because I was still active in this relationship, in this friendship, and I wanted her to be in the wedding. And then she told me she couldn't be in the wedding because we got married December 15th. She told me she couldn't be in the wedding because she wouldn't be able to give her son a Christmas if she came to my wedding. And I understood that.

00:11:59 - 00:12:12 | Speaker 1:

So you actually stayed past even the pedophile thing. That's amazing that you stayed past that. Or did you, as such good friends, did you at all think maybe she's got something here on him or whatever? Like, did that make you worried at all?

00:12:12 - 00:12:29 | Speaker 3:

it did make me worried the funny thing is my husband and i have known each other since we were toddlers and so he was from back home like i'm from ohio okay and um and my family knew him like

00:12:29 - 00:12:38 | Speaker 1:

my parents so you kind of knew what he's all about so did you find out did the reason that she do all this stuff was because maybe she did have a secret little love affair with you

00:12:38 - 00:12:46 | Speaker 3:

i don't know if that was it i i think it was maybe more along the lines of misery loves company

00:12:46 - 00:13:46 | Speaker 1:

and she wanted you to be as miserable as she was yeah yeah well that happens in real i was that happens in a lot of times in relationships where you know you're single and you don't have anybody that you know to call your boyfriend girlfriend and they are and they say you know what we'll just be single together and then all of a sudden remember that's like high school remember in high school when your high school friend got their first boyfriend or girlfriend and you're like yeah hey crap yeah you know that drives you crazy that was her nia you know i remember tom barrett tom barrett started dating this girl chris who's now his wife and he kind of left all of us and then he said and we went to him and said tom we all need to you know not lose you as a friend so guess what we all hung out with him and Chris so yeah yeah I know it gets a little weird Sarah hello hi good morning hi we're talking about friendship breakups this is

00:13:46 - 00:14:40 | Speaker 2:

a weird one here what happened I met my best friend in high school as freshmen and she's been with her husband for 15 years now and I met my boyfriend now about three years ago and she sorry frequently cheated on her husband and um when i met my boyfriend i kind of told him you know this is kind of who she is what she does and throughout our three years together she's cheated on her husband about five times ish and when we would go out to the bars she would hook up with guys um and then go home to her husband and i would vent to my boyfriend like you know this is what she did tonight so he was like you need to stop hanging out with her like i don't like how she is i don't like her morals and it kind of hurt me a lot because we have been friends for so long and um we haven't spoken probably in a year now wow it's just kind of you cannot be friends

00:14:40 - 00:14:46 | Speaker 1:

with somebody that doesn't have the same moral compass that you have you know yeah and the sad

00:14:46 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 2:

thing about it is they have five kids together and actually their second one is not his and he knows that he's raised him um and he he they don't tell him that he's not his because you know that's kind of

00:15:00 - 00:15:04 | Speaker 6:

of that's mental for a child. Yeah. But here's the problem. He's different.

00:15:05 - 00:15:17 | Speaker 7:

Here's the problem. If you stay in a relationship with her and she continues to keep cheating, it makes your relationship have issues because your spouse feels like you're condoning that.

00:15:18 - 00:15:24 | Speaker 2:

Well, and every time you're with her or go out with her, he's probably a nervous wreck. Exactly.

00:15:25 - 00:15:31 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. He trusts me and I know he trusts me, but he'll ask, like, did you do anything? You know, you look at guys.

00:15:31 - 00:15:33 | Speaker 3:

I mean, that's going to get old after a while.

00:15:33 - 00:15:50 | Speaker 6:

Like, have that in for you. Yeah, and, I mean, I absolutely adore my boyfriend. I hope we get married one day. And I don't want him to have that mistrust and, you know, think that I'm out doing something because that's not me. That's not who I am. And I would never want to put him in that position of questioning our relationship.

00:15:50 - 00:15:51 | Speaker 7:

You know what you need to do, Sarah?

00:15:53 - 00:15:53 | Speaker 6:

What's that?

00:15:54 - 00:15:55 | Speaker 7:

Just give me a...

00:15:56 - 00:15:59 | Speaker 6:

No, no, no.

00:15:59 - 00:16:03 | Speaker 7:

Come on. Give me a louder. Longer.

00:16:04 - 00:16:09 | Speaker 6:
