So Megan has found her brother is different these days.

00:01:05 - 00:01:07 | Speaker 5:

Oh, it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

00:01:07 - 00:01:09 | Speaker 2:

And what's the reason why he is so different?

00:01:09 - 00:01:17 | Speaker 5:

He got a girlfriend, and she's the best thing that has ever happened in my life because she makes him bearable to be around on a more consistent basis.

00:01:18 - 00:01:22 | Speaker 2:

Really? So your brother, Sean, has been dating this girl now for, what, a few months or something like that?

00:01:22 - 00:01:27 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, I want to say, like, I don't really know when it started, but I introduced them last summer.

00:01:27 - 00:01:30 | Speaker 2:

Oh, wow. You were the one that introduced them.

00:01:30 - 00:01:33 | Speaker 5:

Oh, I set them up. I love her. Love her.

00:01:34 - 00:01:39 | Speaker 2:

And what could have been a bad situation has turned out to be a great situation because it's made your brother different.

00:01:39 - 00:03:01 | Speaker 5:

Oh, 100%. He is more bearable. Well, here's the other thing. I just know I can get away with more when she's around. I'm a terror, and I don't think anybody is surprised by that phrase. But she came over this weekend, and I don't know why I had the audacity to do this. But we were all sitting on the couch, and I just walked by him to go to the bathroom, and I went, well, he didn't, purely because I knew he couldn't hit me. She makes me a worse person, and I love it. Also, for years, absolutely years, I've been trying to get my brother to watch New Girl. I love New Girl. I think it's so funny. I know my brother will love Schmidt. I know, I know, I know. I'll love it. And he just refused, refused, refused. He said, I saw the first episode. It wasn't good. Which, to be fair, New Girl fans, the first episode is not that good, okay? So it's hard to convince somebody to watch the show when the first three episodes are meh. It gets a lot better after that. But she came over this weekend, and I'm really trying to get him to watch this. So I plant the seed, and I go, hey, brother's girlfriend, do you like New Girl? She goes, oh, I love that show. I'm obsessed with it. I was like, we should watch it, right? And she was like, yeah, turn it on. and my brother just gave me absolute daggers because he won't say no to her because he likes her. And so I was like, I got my way again. And I turned it on.

00:03:01 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 2:

Do we call this the girlfriend effect? Is that what it is?

00:03:03 - 00:03:14 | Speaker 5:

Oh, for sure. We turned it on. Guess who watched the entire first season this weekend and who loves the show now? My brother. That is correct. The girlfriend effect works in my favor nine out of ten times.

00:03:14 - 00:03:30 | Speaker 2:

Okay, so this is interesting because sometimes you hear people say that the girlfriend will make him a worse person or whatever. People don't like when their friends have a girlfriend. Your brother's girlfriend has made him a better person or more tolerable to you.

00:03:30 - 00:03:35 | Speaker 5:

More tolerable because I can be just as terrible as I always am with no repercussions.

00:03:36 - 00:04:03 | Speaker 2:

Has that ever happened to anybody else where their, you know, maybe sibling or friend found a new person in their life, a boyfriend or a girlfriend, and it changed them as a person? like it makes them you're i'm hearing you go crazy giving glowing reviews of your brother and this girl this may be interesting because i always worried that you would be jealous because you and your brother are so close if somebody got in between you guys i don't know why people

00:04:03 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 5:

always think that like no absolutely not if anything because we're so close i want my brother to be happy probably more than normal siblings like i'm rooting for this a million times more than i normally would but i'm also very aware of the fact that i am very lucky because a lot of people it sounds weird to say this but i feel like when siblings are the same gender and they're close it's very normal yeah and when siblings are opposite gender and they're close people think it's weird when it's not like if you saw two brothers that were best friends you wouldn't think that was weird or two sisters you wouldn't think that was weird but because it's my brother people think it's weird and it's not i'm very very very lucky that she is just as close with her sisters as I am with my brother so like she gets it she gets it we I've hung out with her sisters before she she hangs out with me like I almost feel like I gained a family already I love it

00:04:55 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

can I tell you I'm well I'm you know how close I am with my sisters I mean I'm really really

00:05:00 - 00:05:22 | Speaker 4:

tight with my sisters and when my sisters got married their husbands became buddies of mine so it was and i agree with you that it is weird you know how close families can be when they're when you're you know you're just hanging out with them normally but when they're they start dating then it becomes fun you know it becomes fun to bring somebody else into the family for sure

00:05:22 - 00:05:34 | Speaker 3:

plus i my brother's my best friend if you like somebody i'm nine times out of ten gonna love that person yeah yeah i get like an extra friend it's a win-win um do they know that when they get

00:05:34 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 4:

married they have to have you that you get to move into their house with them first of all did you know you want to hear a funny story my sister tracy married uh my brother-in-law scott and i had just moved out of the house because i lived with my sister and i lived with you know my two sisters uh pat and tracy and i said to scott when he met her i go just so you know you got to take pat and i on and he honestly probably would have and to be honest with you he's pretty much housed all of our family members over the time but at this point i'm so willing to kick

00:06:08 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 3:

my brother out for her to move she gets to move in uh it's the girlfriend effect has this ever

00:06:14 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 4:

happened to anybody that you knew uh where they start dating somebody and then they become a

00:06:19 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 5:

better person claire what's going on so my brother and his girlfriend were super cute together but he was a complete jerk to her and they broke up right before christmas and she actually moved

00:06:31 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 2:

into my house yesterday oh my gosh what does your brother think of that um so actually he's at my

00:06:38 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 5:

house right now too he's been staying with me um so he's not a super fan of it he's like how could you do that blah blah blah blah but she's super great and my daughter absolutely adores her like she's my daughter's favorite person and if she's a great person he was just being a jerk to her

00:06:54 - 00:06:55 | Speaker 2:

then how can he protest?

00:06:56 - 00:07:03 | Speaker 5:

Right, right. And that's what we said, too. We're like, well, you're the one who broke up with her. Like, we all love her. So it sucks to be you.

00:07:03 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 4:

Can I tell you, though, you've got to be really, really careful about that, though, because it does put a little, you know, wedge in between you and that person that you love. Because I've had that happen with some of my sons when they would break up with their significant others. I continued to communicate with them and be friends, and it really would bother my son, you know, when that happened.

00:07:24 - 00:07:37 | Speaker 5:

And they've been broken up for, like, almost three months now, and she was kind of holding on to hope that they would get back together. Not so much him, like, he's just done with her. But, yeah, it's definitely been different.

00:07:37 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 4:

You know, it's wild. I've seen this happen before where, like, the sibling was dating somebody, and then they ended up breaking up or something like that. and then you set them up with another one of your friends, and then it becomes crazy because the intertwined relationships.

00:07:56 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 5:

Oh, yeah, no, that won't be happening because me and my husband are in our late 20s, and she's only 20, so we're not setting her up with anything.

00:08:04 - 00:08:07 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, okay, well, that's good. What's up, Mike?

00:08:08 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 6:

Hey.

00:08:09 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 4:

Hey.

00:08:11 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 6:

So I went ahead and got a girlfriend, and she basically turned me from a raging douchebag to, like, a half-decent human being.

00:08:25 - 00:08:27 | Speaker 4:

Oh, you're only half-decent now.

00:08:29 - 00:08:34 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, I'm working on it. It's a work in progress. I'm trying to get there.

00:08:34 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 4:

So, wait, what did she do differently? Because I always want to know about that. Like, what is it that, you know, is it that you're getting some and now you're happy, or what's the story?

00:08:44 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 6:

Not exactly. I think the fact that, like, we genuinely care about each other and do things to, like, try and make each other better people. So she's going to school. I'm working. She's got two jobs. So we're doing a decent amount of stuff. And then whenever we get a chance to, like, see each other, it actually matters.

00:09:06 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:09:06 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 6:

And that's been really important. And then also just working with, like, my family and stuff. That's cool. Trying to make sure they're doing well.

00:09:14 - 00:09:16 | Speaker 3:

As a former D-bag myself, I've got to say respect.

00:09:18 - 00:09:29 | Speaker 4:

And as a guy named Mike also, right? Oh, yeah, that's right. Hey, would your brother Megan say that his girlfriend has made him a better person, or is it only to you?

00:09:32 - 00:09:42 | Speaker 3:

I don't know. I don't know. I think so, because he's happier than he was. I think that makes people better. That's probably why I'm not a good person.

00:09:42 - 00:09:48 | Speaker 2:

You might not want to bring it up and make him aware that, you know, you're slightly manipulating him.

00:09:49 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 3:

Oh, he knows. I laughed about it. I was like, what are you going to do about it? I'm a menace.

00:09:57 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 4:

Do you ever use her to get...

00:10:00 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 2:

something through to your brother? You ever call her up and say, hey, I want you to tell Sean, you know, blah, blah, blah, blah. Or I want you to back me on this thing.

00:10:08 - 00:10:26 | Speaker 1:

He got really mad when he found out that she and I text without him in the group. Because we have a group chat together, like the three of us. And then her and I have our own like text message thread going on. And when he found out, he was like, what are you talking about? I was like, girl's deaf. You're not allowed. No, because he's girl's deaf. No, but it's loud. I love that.

00:10:26 - 00:10:41 | Speaker 2:
