Mojo on the morning show. Megan wants to know if you're a bad parent if you do this.

00:01:52 - 00:03:07 | Speaker 3:

and what is it so i was talking with my brother over the weekend and before we get into this i want to make it very clear he and i are not parents but we were discussing about like if we were what kind of parents we would be and i don't know how we got onto the subject it's kind of like a weird in-depth conversation for two people who don't want to have kids but uh it kind of turned into the whole underage drinking thing and while i do not condone underage drinking i i think it we can acknowledge it happens and we were talking about how there was always that one house we could go to where the parents knew what we were doing but essentially created a safe space for us so there was a house we could go to that we knew that if we were down in the basement we weren't allowed to go anywhere but nobody was going to be mad at us and we both kind of agreed that we would want to be those parents and immediately we started talking about but I remember when we were younger like it was like parents v parents parents v parents of what was good behavior and what was bad behavior and and the ones that knew their kids were drinking were always the bad parents but looking back at it now we both felt like those were the good parents because they were the ones protecting us and then i was like are we the bad would we be the bad parents so it's

00:03:07 - 00:03:46 | Speaker 7:

interesting so we have luke going away to college next year it's hard to believe our baby's gonna be going away to college and so in the last few months we've been more hey uh luke what's going nothing much and like chelsea and i are having a drink and we've let luke drink but only if he's like there with us at the house and i don't like doing it but chelsea's like he's going to go away to college and if he doesn't get an opportunity to see what it's like to have a drink or see feel what it's like to have a drink he is going to go away to college and he is going to turn into a wild man like he's going to be that kid that ends up going crazy i do remember the kids that

00:03:46 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 5:

were in the most protective households that were really sheltered were the ones that went crazy wild and binged and got in the most trouble when they finally had that freedom and that was back when i was in college i can only imagine now where kids are exposed to so much more at such a younger

00:03:59 - 00:04:33 | Speaker 7:

age yeah see i i will say this though i didn't drink when i was in school growing up like i went in high school we're talking high school not so much college right and i mean i went to a commuter college so i went to one of the schools close but i didn't turn into like some like party crazed person i think that we drank not at a house like it was okay we drank at a house when it wasn't okay but we were smart enough to know that we shouldn't be getting in a car and driving and doing all that stuff i just think you know i'll tell you the big difference in what megan's

00:04:33 - 00:04:56 | Speaker 5:

talking about though letting your own kid drink and letting all the kids drink yeah like that that was a big stickler for me when the kids were growing up that i i don't i don't care how uncool i am i am never letting other people's kids drink in our house because that's just what if i wouldn't want them to let my kids drink without talking to me what if the parents though uh were okay with it

00:04:56 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 7:

if you got their permission would you do that well i still wouldn't because i didn't want to be a

00:05:00 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 1:

it to be a liability i was worried about a lawsuit i was worried about health and anybody getting in trouble so i wasn't gonna let it happen regardless i would be way more concerned about having those

00:05:09 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 4:

kids in my house than in a college house or in a bar somewhere like i would much rather have you under my roof where i can make sure you stay here taking their keys away type thing my parents did

00:05:21 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 3:

that one time and it was my open house my graduation party that was it it was the only time they ever let me and we had they had to talk to everybody's parents and even then after that i mean they said you're not doing that again that was it yeah it's a one time they did the right

00:05:35 - 00:05:38 | Speaker 1:

way and talking to all the parents first let them know what's going to happen when luke drank with

00:05:38 - 00:05:52 | Speaker 2:

us i said so what do you think and he goes this is really not fun but he wasn't even talking it was not the alcohol it was being with his parents it was not fun jen what's going on

00:05:52 - 00:06:12 | Speaker 7:

so my kids don't want to drink or smoke or anything but i have that kind of open relationship with them like my daughter told me when she lost her virginity and she tells me all about it um and i think having that open relationship is how it has to be because then instead of getting advice from our friends and all that trash like i can tell her things right completely she tells

00:06:12 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 1:

me everything right i think it's a way better way to go it's powerful you don't want them to hide all their mistakes you want them to let them know everybody makes mistakes it's how you handle it

00:06:21 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 7:

to keep yourself safe yeah she thought she was pregnant and like i'm like okay well let's handle this let's talk about it and so we have like this very open communication with whatever you want to do that's fine just tell me about it let's talk about it and like furthermore i let my son play video games and now he's sick of it he don't even want to no more because i've let him for so long

00:06:37 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 2:

really you know by the way i do the right thing i realize jen how you get your kid to stop playing

00:06:42 - 00:07:11 | Speaker 8:

video games play with them what's up pam so i totally agree with megan um i didn't condone that the kids would drink but i was smart and i just would tell them they knew when they came into our house they give me my keys their keys and i'd say okay i'm not allowing you guys to drink but we need to be smart and to be safe and even to this day my son's like 30 and he'll call

00:07:11 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 2:

you and say hey can you come pick us up yeah that's good that he's doing that too and that's good that you know that uh you guys have that relationship where he'll call you and not feel

00:07:21 - 00:07:33 | Speaker 8:

like you're going to punish him for the fact that he was drinking but yeah so like i said i didn't like i didn't donate but it was like i know what i look like at that age so i want them to be safe

00:07:33 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 6:

yeah savannah banana hi what's going on savannah um i had the same idea as megan forever because i had a friend who their mom was like if your mom's cool with it you know you guys can come over and drink and um i was like awesome awesome but there had been times that you know kids were just dumb and i'm like oh do i want to be responsible for that so that's where now that i actually have kids i'm more like spikes thing like i would rather my kids be at home and have drinks with me or we go camping but i don't want to be responsible for other kids because like those kids would tell oh yeah we my parents said we could and really they weren't supposed to

00:08:16 - 00:08:23 | Speaker 2:

yeah megan it's like conflicting megan by the way when she is a mom which will happen here

00:08:23 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 4:

Don't you put that witchcraft on me

00:08:25 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 2:

Don't do it Megan's gonna be doing Megan's gonna be doing Molly with her kids

00:08:33 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 4:

Oh yeah We were talking about that My brother and I were talking about that Would you drink or would you participate In other activities with your kids I think I would

00:08:43 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 2:

Do you know how weird it was when I went to the I Heart Radio Music Festival And my son Joe was getting Stoned in front of me and stuff

00:08:51 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 4:

Can I tell you The one thing I want in my life more than anything Is for my dad to retire And he does not have any plans Does not want to anytime soon But the day he retires you guys know

00:09:02 - 00:09:03 | Speaker 1:

When there's no more drug tests

00:09:03 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 4:

Charcuterie border weed baby

00:09:05 - 00:09:12 | Speaker 2:

Star how are you You wanted to comment on this

00:09:12 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 5:

I'm good yeah how are you

00:09:13 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 2:

Good

00:09:14 - 00:09:51 | Speaker 5:

Yeah I was just saying my parents were very Knowledgeable about you know all the drinking going on that we did me and my friends in high school um to where i had gone to a party once got way too drunk um and my friends were actually i think concerned and called my parents to come pick me up because they knew it wasn't going to be a big deal i feel like a lot of times kids would be scared to call you know parents to come pick up their kids because they'd be afraid to get in trouble and they would get in trouble so yeah i always made that clear always told my

00:09:51 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

daughters you can never be scared to call me for any any ride home whether you're drunk or you just feel unsafe or you just want to get away from some people like i will never

00:10:00 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 5:

question you or you'll never get in trouble for your situation and where you are because you're making the smart choice to get a safe ride home. Now, you know, when they snuck alcohol from my bar and stuff, that's a different story. Then you're getting in trouble because you drank the

00:10:12 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 2:

good stuff. Helena? Yes. Hi. How are you guys doing this morning? Good. What is it that your parents told you? Yeah. So I went, I was going to bed my freshman year at like 530 at night. And my mom said, you need to go out and go to a party. Like you cannot just be sitting at home

00:10:28 - 00:10:33 | Speaker 7:

going to sleep at 5 30. So she was encouraging you to go out because she was worried that you

00:10:33 - 00:10:57 | Speaker 2:

weren't socializing. Yeah yeah she was she said before I went off to college never say no unless it's not going to be safe. If it's your friend saying hey come on out like let's go out let's go to a party and I had nothing better to do go on out and socialize. It didn't mean I had to drink but that just meant going out and experiencing all that college had to offer. But what if you

00:10:57 - 00:11:04 | Speaker 7:

want to just sit at home and you know watch tv i mean that's that was a common thing though for

00:11:04 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 2:

me in college that like i just i'd rather stay inside and be the dd and have someone call me at 2 a.m saying come get me then go on out but i think my mom still wanted me to go out and

00:11:15 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 7:

socialize and spend time with people spike did your daughters go on their high school senior trip like till you know no they do these trips no the kids didn't seem to be as into it as

00:11:26 - 00:11:27 | Speaker 5:

We were his kids.

00:11:27 - 00:11:59 | Speaker 7:

So my kids, Joe and Jacob, did not go on it. Luke now, they have one that's coming up, and they're going to some Mexican island or some place in Mexico or whatever. And Luke does not want to go. And I was so happy about it because we have gone on that trip with friends of ours whose kids were seniors, and it was really awkward for me to see these kids and how much these kids will party and stuff. And the parents party with them.

00:11:59 - 00:12:06 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, the parents go off. Like, they've never been let out of the house. The parents get sometimes crazier than the kids.

00:12:06 - 00:12:28 | Speaker 7:

And I have to be honest. I don't want to pass judgment on friends and stuff because they're parenting their kids their way. But I always felt, like, weird. And honestly, I was not going to stop Luke if that was the case, but I was definitely not going to party like crazy in front of him. I'll party with somebody else's kids, but I'm not partying with my kids. But I was so happy that he didn't want to do it. He didn't want to go on the thing.

00:12:28 - 00:12:42 | Speaker 5:

Natalie kind of planned her own with her friends. They just had like 10 friends, and they all planned a cruise with moms. And I think like seven moms and 10 kids went. And then you knew you can't get in a lot of trouble on the boat. There's not a lot of places to go.

00:12:42 - 00:12:48 | Speaker 7:

Did they go on like a Backstreet Boys cruise? No, no, no. You know how they do those theme cruises?

00:12:48 - 00:12:51 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I want to go on the Drag Queen one very badly.

00:12:52 - 00:13:06 | Speaker 7:

Shannon's not here to say this. she's out sick today but she didn't she do disney like that was her senior trip was they all yeah that was like the most fun thing got to drink out of uh mickey's ears hello it is ryan and i was on

00:13:06 - 00:13:28 | Speaker 6:
