This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:10 - 00:01:54 | Speaker 1:

My name is Neterica, Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us.

00:01:55 - 00:02:02 | Speaker 4:

We'll be right back.

00:03:32 - 00:03:51 | Speaker 5:

mojo in the morning so we uh put the christmas tree up we uh got it up actually chelsea chelsea

00:03:51 - 00:03:56 | Speaker 2:

put it up i helped her a little bit beautiful can i tell you something interesting though

00:03:56 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 5:

she's not putting any ornaments on it this year oh she's just doing lights she said to uh to me She's like, I'm not putting ornaments on it because what you put on has to come back off.

00:04:05 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:04:05 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 5:

And it looks honestly so clean, like with it's just white lights and it's on a tree. Yeah. And in our room, it's kind of like got the like, I don't know, it looks appropriate. Let's put it this way. It's good enough for a filter picture on Instagram. And that's all that matters.

00:04:20 - 00:04:26 | Speaker 2:

But your tree itself is big and beautiful, too. Yeah. It looks like really elegant. Yeah.

00:04:26 - 00:04:53 | Speaker 5:

And I'm going to say this to you. I honestly like ornaments, but I don't like the ones that Chelsea likes. Like, I like the ornaments that nothing works together. Like, it's all mismatched, but it's got, like, some part of your history there. Like, the ones that the kids make at school or something that is carried on from, like, family to family. Those kind of ornaments. Chelsea likes all the ornaments to look, you know, like, brown. You know what I mean?

00:04:53 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 2:

And it has to have a theme.

00:04:54 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:04:54 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 2:

Like, an aesthetic.

00:04:55 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. You're not an ornament guy? I'm not, so I am an ornament guy.

00:05:00 - 00:05:18 | Speaker 2:

But I'm not the Chelsea kind of ornament guy. Like, I don't want, I want mine to kind of, I want mine to have, like, a piece of nostalgia to it. You know what I mean? Like, you know, oh, this is the ornament that, you know, my mom and dad gave me. You know, whatever the deal is.

00:05:18 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 1:

I just lost one of those special ornaments, by the way. So, we cut down our tree over the weekend, which, by the way. It looked awesome. It was seriously really fun. And we went to Blake's, and Smith, who's six, did the majority of the cutting. I saw him laying down. I could be the worst mom ever, but we let him have the saw and just, like, go at it.

00:05:37 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 2:

You have finally found something to do with his aggression. And that is he can be a tree cutter.

00:05:42 - 00:05:44 | Speaker 1:

That's amazing. He's going to be a landscaper.

00:05:44 - 00:05:45 | Speaker 2:

That's awesome.

00:05:45 - 00:06:25 | Speaker 1:

It was so fun. So we got the tree in the house. And by the way, when you cut the ties off of those trees, you know, because they tie them up so you can put them on the top of your car, it's like a crescent roll package opening. Oh, my gosh. It pops, and it becomes this big tree. So I got out all of the ornaments and stuff and laid them all out because I do a Chelsea tree. I do a tree that is a pretty tree. Decorative, yeah. Yeah, and then I do a tree that has all of our family ornaments and the ornaments that the kids have made in school over the years because those are my absolute favorite. Well, one ornament that's really special to me is the pickle. Do you guys know about the pickle ornament? Oh, yes, the German pickle. You have to find it. You do? Okay.

00:06:25 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 2:

You talked about the pickle before. Is that Shani's granny?

00:06:29 - 00:07:45 | Speaker 1:

Shani's granny had a pickle on her tree. It is a German tradition, and she was German. Is that it? Yeah. Yeah, it's just like a little porcelain, or I don't even know what the material is, pickle. And you hide the pickle at Christmas when the whole family's over, and whomever is the first to find the pickle gets an extra gift. That's cool. Okay? We always did lottery scratch-offs. Oh, yeah, that's great. so my grandma one year gave me my own pickle to start the tradition for my family in my house so smith is you know looking through all the ornaments and he grabs the pickle and smith's just like he's like a milo mike he's just a bundle of energy and so he decided i'm overhearing this as i'm trying to unpack another box that he is going to take the pickle and try to throw it into the tree so it lands in the tree oh god as i'm saying what don't you dare do not do that he throws it it was slow-mo flies through the air it's going toward the tree but it is it's a miss and it lands on my desk and chatters into a million pieces i know i don't have my pickle from shanny's granny anymore that's so it wasn't anything expensive i'm sure she got it at like you know, Target or Kohl's or whatever. But to me, the side of the mental value was...

00:07:46 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 2:

See, that's the part of putting up the nostalgia trees that you kind of get bummed out about, is that that ornament, you know, most likely is not going to last forever, right? Or it falls off and it breaks. And that's like the worst. The worst is when it's something that means something to you. Like in this case, Chaney's granny was so special to you.

00:08:08 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:08:08 - 00:08:58 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's... Oh, gosh. You're in a pickle. Hey, this is not a choking matter. Now you just bought... I'm sorry. It was there. It was there. That wasn't kosher enough for you guys? Yay! Listen, I'm going to say this to you, though. That might be one of the reasons why Chelsea doesn't want to do the nostalgia. Because a lot of those ornaments were ornaments that she got when she was a kid that literally she keeps wrapped up and kind of holds on to. But if you don't see them, you don't see them. But it does like you have that fear that they are going to break. And what happens with that? Has that ever happened to any of our listeners where the the the one, you know, thing that. Yeah. The ornament breaks like that's the one that's the last one that goes up on the frickin tree. Yeah. Like, why the heck did it? Why did you not have that in a special, more special place?

00:08:58 - 00:09:12 | Speaker 1:

Well, I have them. I have all my special ornaments in an ornament box. Yeah. Like they each have their own compartment, you know, and that's where I had it. But I had everything laid out because I was going to get ready to put everything on the tree. and he wanted to help. It was an accident.

00:09:13 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 2:

Do you think your dad has a pickle?

00:09:15 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 1:

My dad does have a pickle. So he does? I think she got it.

00:09:18 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 2:

Well, no, but I'm saying you guys...

00:09:20 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 1:

But he's got to keep his pickle from Shane's brain.

00:09:23 - 00:09:24 | Speaker 2:

But I wonder if he would hand that down to you.

00:09:25 - 00:09:25 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:09:26 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 2:

Not until Smith is of age to not throw pickles. I think you got to get your own pickle and start a whole new pickle tradition.

00:09:33 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 1:

It won't be the same. It's not the same. It's not the same. Never mind, I try it.

00:09:39 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

It does, by the way, it does have the meaning to it, and buying something new doesn't work. I know, it doesn't work. There's no substitute. What is, for the listeners, 844-MOJO-LIVE, what is that one ornament that's on your tree, or the ornament, or decoration that you have, that you're like, oh, this was the thing that so-and-so gave me, or grandma?

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 4:

You know, it's like every Christmas movie always has something like that.

00:10:02 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 6:

Oh, my God.

00:10:03 - 00:10:06 | Speaker 4:

That's mom's, you know, whatever it is.

00:10:06 - 00:10:07 | Speaker 6:

That we're placing atop the tree.

00:10:07 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, exactly. The Family Stone. I'm excited to start that movie.

00:10:12 - 00:10:16 | Speaker 3:

I'm excited to start Traditions. Are you? We don't have anything like that.

00:10:16 - 00:10:21 | Speaker 4:

I think that's really cool. In your family, there was no, like, big thing that you guys did at the holidays?

00:10:21 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 3:

My mom, she used to have a nativity scene that she used to put out. And then one year, somebody stole baby Jesus off the front lawn. Really? Great. That person, by the way, will be condemned to hell. You can't steal baby Jesus. Just baby Jesus, too. They left Mary. I think they took Joseph, too. I'm telling you. Do you think that they were missing a set? We drove around the neighborhood. My mama was pissed.

00:10:46 - 00:11:11 | Speaker 9:

Did you guys ever have other people's decoration become your family tradition? Because we had Hockey Jesus. Hockey Jesus? Let me tell you. In my neighborhood, I grew up in, and I can say this now, We don't live there. Woodstream Farms in Sylvania, there was a family that always had a hockey net behind their nativity seat as their barn for baby Jesus. Oh, that's great. And it was hockey Jesus. Every year, it wasn't Christmas, but we saw hockey Jesus.

00:11:13 - 00:11:14 | Speaker 4:

Heather, what's up?

00:11:15 - 00:11:31 | Speaker 6:

Hi, I had a little baby tree that I used to put up when my busha put up her big tree when I was a kid. And my daughter threw it away last year. so i had to replace baby tree with the new baby tree this year but i got black ornaments for it

00:11:31 - 00:11:39 | Speaker 4:

to mourn uh what's up brooke how you doing it's mojo in the morning hi how are you guys we're

00:11:39 - 00:11:55 | Speaker 8:

good what's going on um so my great-grandmother well my great-great-grandmother who i was named after she handed down through the generations an ornament that was so old the hair on it actually has, it's like horse hair.

00:11:56 - 00:11:58 | Speaker 4:

Oh, really? Like they use like real, yeah, wow.

00:11:59 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 8:

Yeah, I had one of those really, really old plugs that you can't find nowadays. Everything. Well, one Christmas after I had moved away for college and whatnot, my stepdad went to put it on the tree and he missed the stem and it fell off and the tip broke in the light bulb that you cannot

00:12:19 - 00:12:23 | Speaker 4:

buy. Oh, no. Oh, my God. That's the worst.

00:12:23 - 00:12:26 | Speaker 8:

It's going to be my ornament, or my star this year.

00:12:26 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. That's the worst when that happens. Because, like, we've had ornaments over the years, like, the first-year ornaments, like, the ones that they would make, you know, and the kids. And those have kind of all probably gone for broke, you know what I mean? Like, the stems of the ornaments always end up breaking off first.

00:12:41 - 00:12:48 | Speaker 7:

Or, like, the construction paper ones. They get so, like, nasty. It lasted at least, like, 90 years.

00:12:48 - 00:12:50 | Speaker 8:

Wow. Oh, geez. Holy cow.

00:12:50 - 00:13:00 | Speaker 2:

One year, Ellie thought she lost all of her ornaments, so I went to her parents and got, like, old pictures of her and had the kids make her ornaments. They're hideous. They're absolutely hideous.

00:13:00 - 00:13:01 | Speaker 7:

But I bet those are her favorite.

00:13:02 - 00:13:15 | Speaker 2:

But, yeah, yeah, they are. But we found her ornaments now, and now those ornaments get placed in the back of the Christmas tree because they're so... But she loves them because they made them, and she didn't have ornaments at the time. But they look so bad.

00:13:16 - 00:13:21 | Speaker 4:

Sue, your, like, nostalgic, beautiful things got ruined. Who ruined them?

00:13:21 - 00:13:22 | Speaker 5:

My little puppy.

00:13:23 - 00:13:23 | Speaker 4:

Oh, God.

00:13:24 - 00:13:41 | Speaker 5:

It ate the tree. So it tore up all of my kids. They're grown now. I had every ornament they ever made me through school, and it ate every one of them. And my topper I had when my first kid was born 33 years ago.

00:13:41 - 00:13:44 | Speaker 4:

Oh, wow. Wow. Oh, my God.

00:13:44 - 00:13:55 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, so I could just cry right now. Oh, good thing that puppy was cute, right? Yeah. Yeah. Kind of. I just didn't think about it when I put it up.

00:13:55 - 00:13:57 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. Katrina, what's up? It's Mojo in the Morning.

00:13:58 - 00:14:17 | Speaker 7:

Hey, keep on the sad momentum. I was in the process of moving, and I don't remember what I did with it, but I had a bag with all of my ornaments from when I was a kid, all the ornaments my dad gave me, the ornaments that my kids made, everything. And somehow the whole bag got thrown away.

00:14:17 - 00:14:22 | Speaker 4:

Oh, no. That's the worst. That's the worst. When they don't even break, you just totally misplace them.

00:14:22 - 00:14:25 | Speaker 8:

Oh, my God. Years and years of memories just gone.

00:14:26 - 00:14:37 | Speaker 4:

Oh, geez. Wow. This is actually a funny texter that says, after my divorce, my dad got me an ornament to help make me smile. It said, three wise men, be serious.

00:14:39 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

That's really very funny. If turkeys go extinct and we start eating roadkill on Thanksgiving, I got dibs on the raccoon. Happy Thanksgiving. This is Mojo in the Morning.
