This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:07 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 4:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. for me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition. Not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

Ignition sequence start. Let me take y'all back to the beginning. This is it.

00:02:31 - 00:02:32 | Speaker 5:

All right, are you ready?

00:02:33 - 00:02:34 | Speaker 6:

You're listening to Mojo in the Morning.

00:02:35 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 5:

You're a doo-doo hack. Here we go, go, go.

00:02:38 - 00:03:26 | Unknown:

Here we go, go, go. It's showtime! We'll be right back.

00:03:26 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 5:

Good morning and welcome to the Mojo in the Morning Show. We are one week away from Jingle Ball. And we're just a few weeks away from Christmas. I mean, we got a lot of stuff to get to. By the way, happy December, y'all. Oh, actually, ho, ho, ho. Happy December, my hoes. I don't know. Is that how we're starting? There's something. I don't know. I don't know. What does Santa say? Something like that? I don't know. Yes. Happy. Thank you, crowd. Good morning. Welcome to the show. It's good to be here with you. I came in this morning, and it was just like going away for Christmas break because we went away for Thanksgiving break. And you know how when you came back to school, you couldn't figure out what your classes were? Or maybe you had like a change or two? Or your locker. Yeah.

00:04:20 - 00:04:22 | Speaker 8:

I can never remember my locker combo.

00:04:22 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. It's like my passwords. I can't figure out my passwords, and I only use, like, three variations of them. Oh, yeah. It's like an extra, you know, period or explanation point or extra, you know, dollar sign or something. I don't know what it is. Welcome to the show. How are you guys? How was everybody's Thanksgiving? Did you guys have fun? I had a lot of fun.

00:04:44 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 8:

It was fun, but I'm going to be real honest with you. I am glad there are no more people at my house. And I'm going to say that very quietly because I'm hoping they're not listening, But I had people in town and just people at my house all since Wednesday. I am over it. I'm right there.

00:05:00 - 00:05:03 | Speaker 1:

I am over it. I cannot wait to go home today and have nobody there.

00:05:03 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 2:

I'm right there. I actually said to Chelsea, I go, we were so sad when all the kids went to school and moved away. And then they come home for the holidays and it was about 48 hours of us going, God, it was really nice here for a while, wasn't it? It's like just us and the dogs. But, and then there, I mean, Kev, you kind of had, did you have like a quiet Thanksgiving, right?

00:05:24 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I had a different experience. This was probably the fewest amount of people that I've had for a Thanksgiving celebration I've had in my entire life. But it was nice, to say the least.

00:05:35 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 2:

So you enjoyed kind of like being low-key?

00:05:37 - 00:06:00 | Speaker 3:

I mean, it wasn't, I guess low-key is the term, but with my mom and my sister and Josiah, there's only so much low-key that could take place. Every single one of us is like loud, and we have food that could have fed double the amount of people that we actually had. But it was good. I mean, football was on. It was my first time going to a Lions game this season. I saw you there. It was so much fun. Shout out to the O-Blocks. Tailgating was cool.

00:06:00 - 00:06:07 | Speaker 2:

I didn't see you. I saw Amaran St. Brown. You were wearing that jersey. Yes, sir. With Steve Gabara blocking for you.

00:06:08 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 3:

My guy. That was a great time, man. Yeah, it was a great time. That was a great time.

00:06:12 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 2:

It is interesting, though, because I listen to what Kev's saying, and I'm like going, oh, a lot of food and not a lot of people. That sounds like a dream come true, right, Shannon? and then you realize you're cleaning up after

00:06:24 - 00:06:40 | Speaker 1:

everybody. I think I lost track after I did my 21st dishwasher load. Oh my load and unload. Wow. That was yesterday and I finally looked at Wes and I was like I quit. I'm on strike. I am done doing dishes. It is paper plates for the rest of the week.

00:06:42 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 2:

844 Mojo Live is a telephone number if you forgot. 844 665 6548 The text line is 95500. So if you have uh you know anything you would like to say if you like to participate we'd love to hear from you i'd like to hear how your thanksgiving was uh did you guys uh keep it low-key did you guys have some fun i saw some people that uh did like everything like they went to they did almost every event possible um i went and saw and i'm going to go on record before we get into our first topic i went and saw wicked and i stayed up through the whole thing i cannot believe it i yes well first off i've seen wicked six times chelsea told me because i'm like i think i've seen it like 8 000 times on stage some way somehow whether it's come through town here you know at the you know fisher theater or i think we saw it one time at what's the theater that's right uh right across from the dac is it the opera house so i said to chelsea go i actually like this so much better because it's boring when you see them switch stuff on stage. Like, I like the movie production of it. Yeah. And actually, I'm now crushing on Ariana Grande. And you know what's funny? Shannon does dirty stories every single morning on the show. And I hear her talk about, ah, this person, this person. And I had no clue that her boyfriend was the ugly dude in the movie. And I was like, how is she dating that guy?

00:08:09 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 3:

That's how they met, right? Oh, sick. Yeah.

00:08:12 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 2:

She picked the ugliest guy in the movie, and that was the guy that she ended up dating. It was his heart. Yeah, well, or lack thereof.

00:08:21 - 00:08:34 | Speaker 3:

Hey, I saw a tweet yesterday that said 13 years ago, Arianne had tweeted that she wanted to be Glinda. Like, that would have been her dream role. And now to see her actually be in it and be the biggest movie of the year is kind of cool.

00:08:34 - 00:08:36 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, she's been talking about it in interviews for years and years and years.

00:08:37 - 00:08:41 | Speaker 2:

I just tweeted just a couple minutes ago, I just want Elon Musk's money. That's all I've heard of.

00:08:41 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 3:

You never know.

00:08:42 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 2:

Uh, what's going on? How you doing? Uh, Jessica. Welcome. Uh, Jessica. How are you? Are you, hold on a second. I got to make sure I got to put it over here. Hold on. Stay right there. Don't go anywhere. I, you know, I screw up, uh, one little thing. There you go. I could hear you click in. What's going on, Jess?

00:08:59 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 5:

Not much. It's always first time, long time. Hey! Just on the phone. And then it's always a good Thanksgiving when the Lions win. It's been too many years. Yes.

00:09:11 - 00:09:16 | Speaker 2:

By the way, was that the first time? And how many tries? Five years or something like that?

00:09:16 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 5:

I think it was like 11 or something.

00:09:17 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 2:

I thought it was long. Yeah, I thought it was a long time. I actually heard after the game, every guy was more excited about grabbing a turkey leg because they never had an opportunity to grab a turkey leg.

00:09:28 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 3:

Except David Montgomery. He ate carrots. Right. I don't know. Is he vegan? Yeah, he said he's been vegan.

00:09:33 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 2:

Okay. So cute. Did you do anything with family? Did you have lots of people together or little people together?

00:09:40 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 4:

um so my in-law side is big so a lot of people there and then a little people on my side we

00:09:46 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

kind of went between the two oh and a lot of people on the in-law side do we like the in-laws we do we do for the sake of radio yes we do right okay that's cool do you by the way do you still have leftovers because

00:09:59 - 00:10:29 | Unknown:

Thank you.

00:10:00 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 2:

Because last night, I actually had honey-baked ham, and Chelsea looked at me and said, I'm really shocked that you're going for it again. Because at some point, when is it that listeria comes into play?

00:10:11 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 4:

I have to cook an entire new brisket tonight. You're cooking something that big? I accidentally bought too many briskets, like too much food, and I have to cook it tonight or it's going to go bad. So I have another brisket. Yeah, but it's two weeks of straight brisket. Oh, okay. I think today's the day, by the way, that you throw away those leftovers.

00:10:31 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 2:

Is it?

00:10:31 - 00:10:34 | Speaker 4:

I think so. No way. I feel like meat lasts longer.

00:10:35 - 00:10:42 | Speaker 3:

Like, look, if it's greens or string beans, something like that, throw that out. I got some macaroni refrigerator. I'm holding that down.

00:10:42 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 2:

Potato doesn't go anywhere. It doesn't taste any different. It's got a lot of butter in there keeping it preserved.

00:10:47 - 00:10:54 | Speaker 3:

We left our potatoes out. No potatoes. You know pancakes. What is that?

00:10:54 - 00:11:00 | Speaker 4:

The perfect leftover. You fry up your pancake or your potatoes again into a pancake shape like latkes.

00:11:00 - 00:11:01 | Speaker 3:

Wow. Who does that?

00:11:01 - 00:11:02 | Speaker 4:

Me.

00:11:02 - 00:11:03 | Speaker 3:

Is that it?

00:11:03 - 00:11:04 | Speaker 4:

Throw some applesauce on it, baby. Let's go.

00:11:04 - 00:11:08 | Speaker 2:

Is that a, is that a, that's like a, a, a, apple sauce.

00:11:08 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. That's a big thing. Chelsea's family does that too. I'm different. And a little bit of sour cream too. Oh my God. German. Now that's how you get Listeria.

00:11:16 - 00:11:21 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. Doing all that. I, I don't know. I think Shannon may be right. I think by today that you're done with all that.

00:11:21 - 00:11:21 | Speaker 4:

Nah.

00:11:22 - 00:11:42 | Speaker 2:

I don't know. I think at some point today, you kind of have to sit there and say to yourself, do I want to poop all week long or not? And at some point when your poop starts looking like the actual Thanksgiving dinner. It's time. Minus the nicely set table, then you're okay.

00:11:42 - 00:11:43 | Speaker 3:

It's just all together.

00:11:44 - 00:11:47 | Speaker 2:

You hung out with a bunch of people over the break? I did.

00:11:47 - 00:12:08 | Speaker 3:

Let me ask you all the questions, too, because I had an experience that I thought was illegal. I was in the car with somebody, and I hear a beeping sound go off. It's like, and then it starts getting louder. I'm like, yo, what is that? I look up to the top of the windshield, and there's this little black box that is suctioned cupped to the glass. I'm like, is that a police scanner? I know who you were with. Who was I with?

00:12:09 - 00:12:13 | Speaker 4:

Steve Cabrera. Yeah. Yeah. I wasn't going to put him out there in Megan City.

00:12:13 - 00:12:15 | Speaker 3:

Steve Cabrera has a police scanner.

00:12:15 - 00:12:29 | Speaker 4:

It's so annoying downtown. It's so annoying. Like a radar detector? It's a radar detector. Is that not illegal? Well, they're two different things. It's not a police scanner. He has a radar detector. So he's not hearing what they're saying. He can tell that they're around. That's not illegal either?

00:12:30 - 00:12:34 | Speaker 2:

No, I think that they're okay, except for in Canada. I think that it may be wrong.

00:12:34 - 00:12:37 | Speaker 3:

They're not okay in Ohio. Really? That boy was going crazy.

00:12:38 - 00:12:44 | Speaker 2:

If you're a cop, you got to tell us if that's legal. And if not, can you pull Steve Gabara over in his dealer-plated vehicle?

00:12:44 - 00:12:48 | Speaker 4:

Well, downtown, there's so many cops that it literally just beeps the entire time.

00:12:48 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 3:

Listen, I'm like, first off, how far can this thing go? A mile. Up to a mile or even beyond.

00:12:54 - 00:13:04 | Speaker 2:

Well, and I think the one he's got is a good one, too, because I think it scrambles like, yeah, it's one of those Valentines. What's going on? Who do I have here on the phone? Sean. What's up, Sean?

00:13:05 - 00:13:09 | Speaker 3:

Hey, I just wanted to tell Kevin he's wrong. I'm with Megan with the potato pancake.

00:13:09 - 00:13:11 | Speaker 2:

Thank you. Really?

00:13:11 - 00:13:14 | Speaker 3:

That just doesn't sound appetizing. Yes, potato pancakes are so good.

00:13:14 - 00:13:15 | Speaker 4:

Open up your mind to new experiences.

00:13:15 - 00:13:19 | Speaker 3:

Add flour and egg and make it kind of sizzle, fry it up.

00:13:19 - 00:13:28 | Speaker 2:

You know what it tastes like to me? It tastes like, what is the appetizer with potatoes? Oh, gosh. Like, pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa. That's what?

00:13:29 - 00:13:31 | Speaker 3:

French fries? Like, it's a...

00:13:31 - 00:13:37 | Speaker 2:

No, like, where they do, like, potato peels with cheese and bacon and stuff on top of it.

00:13:37 - 00:13:43 | Speaker 3:

Oh, okay, I know what you're talking about. I know what you're talking about. No, you don't. Don't back him up just because he's your friend. What is it? I don't know the name of it. Where'd you get it?

00:13:44 - 00:13:50 | Speaker 2:

Where? Potato somethings. They have chives on them. Yeah, it tastes like potato skins.

00:13:50 - 00:13:52 | Speaker 3:

What are y'all dipping potato pancakes in?

00:13:53 - 00:13:57 | Speaker 2:

Chelsea does sour cream and applesauce.

00:13:57 - 00:14:01 | Speaker 3:

So it's not a breakfast. It could happen for any meal. With sour cream?

00:14:01 - 00:14:07 | Speaker 4:

No, you don't put sour cream on it. Oh, sometimes I guess you can.

00:14:08 - 00:14:14 | Speaker 2:

Anytime we talk about stuff like this, Kevin looks at us like we're from another planet or something like that.

00:14:14 - 00:14:22 | Speaker 4:

No, he had to deny it because I brought it up. If Mojo had brought it up, he would have been like, I've got to try that sometime. No, I don't think so.

00:14:22 - 00:14:31 | Speaker 2:

No, he would have gone, man, no wonder why you've got bad bowel movements. What's up? Ro, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning. What's happening?

00:14:32 - 00:14:46 | Speaker 1:

Good morning. Hey, Kevin, they are illegal, the police radar detectors, but it's not a reason for the cop to pull you over. They can smash them if they pull you over for something else.

00:14:46 - 00:14:49 | Speaker 2:

Really? I don't think so in Michigan. Where are you?

00:14:49 - 00:14:53 | Speaker 1:

I live in Michigan as well. A buddy of mine actually had his smashed.

00:14:53 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 2:

Really? That might have been an irate cop. Because I have cop buddies that all have them.

00:15:00 - 00:15:09 | Speaker 6:

have the same ones so they literally the police has y'all are amazing and please keep up the awesome work i've been listening to y'all forever wait a second i thought you said you're from

00:15:31 - 00:15:43 | Speaker 7:

All right, y'all. Black don't crack, but he ain't that young. There ain't no way with that one. I ain't giving him that one, though. He may not know potato pancakes, but I got to tell you, this guy's 30 years old that don't know potato pancakes.

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:17:06 - 00:17:51 | Speaker 3:

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. and I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.
