All right, it is Mojo in the morning. I was watching yesterday's news and in the Detroit area, they had a big news story about a historic restaurant that you guys might have heard us talk about. Have you remember when we were talking about how the most famous Coney restaurant in town called Lafayette Coney Island closed down because they had an issue with rodents, with rats. Well, yesterday they were reopened in something that I've never seen before. The location in the historic Detroit neighborhood was reopened with the health department head for the city of Detroit doing a press conference with the owner announcing the reopening. I've never seen that before. Like usually if a restaurant gets closed down by the health department, the health department just reopens it and the person who owns the place just reopens their doors or does some kind of a re-grand opening or a rebirth or renaming sometimes in many cases when they get closed down because of health violations. This health director actually came out, did a press conference with the owner talking about everything that's going on at the location. Hold on a second here. Hold on. I don't know where that came. Oh, that was from the actual Metro Detroit news clip. I was like, where did that music come from? That's kind of a good song to play. Okay. Let's play, let's play, let's play. She basically said that they have made some necessary changes. All of the staff has been, has taken some, you know, gotten some training on sanitation procedures. They patched some cracks in the building where the rats were getting in. And they will have their formal check-in by the health department. But there will also be informal, unannounced check-ins for the next, I don't even know how long. In addition to their, like, formal big one.

corruptive actions were taken since that time the restaurant has fully cooperated They have made significant improvements, and they have now successfully passed their inspection, and they are reopening today. So we asked them to deep clean and sanitize their entire facility to reinforce pest control measures. If you look downstairs, everything is brand new. Everything is sealed off, and I feel really good about that. They've strengthened their food storage practices to prevent contamination and also access for rodents. and they upgraded their waste management protocols to eliminate conditions that attract pests.

We've been working closely to the health department. We just fixed everything, all the violations.

So that was the voice of health department official Denise Ferrazzo and then the owner of the Lafayette Coney Island. And in honor of this, we want to make sure that he gets back up on his feet. The last thing in the world we want to see is the empty storefronts in Detroit. We want to make sure. And for those that don't know the story, the story is that the historic Lafayette Coney Island had a health department issue. They cleaned it all up. They are now officially open. They got the stamp of approval by the city of Detroit. I just got a text here from the competitor. I want Grace on. Grace, Lydia, will you call Grace? I just got a call from her or text from her. You know, you get some people that had gone there that maybe never tried us. And then I know we've got them. But, I mean, it works with both businesses are open, of course.

But you need a business who's going to follow the rules and comply. And that's the bottom line.

No, you know, that was insane, and that they voluntarily shut down. I mean, let's get things straight, guys. No business voluntarily shuts down. You are told to, and you follow the rules. You know, that was insane to me. They did what they had to do. Let's hope they keep it that way.

All right, and one last question, because I know that in a lot of cities they have, like, the two businesses that go after each other. Matter of fact, in Philadelphia, it's Pat's and Geno's as far as cheesesteaks are concerned. And sometimes it becomes, you know, an issue where you like you guys kind of battle each other. But one of the things that you've always said to me that you actually like competition, that that's pretty much what has drawn the city to be so close and why the Coney is the Detroit tradition.

Exactly. There's a certain kind of charm for the two restaurants next to each other.

and it all works out just fine when it ruins though is when a restaurant has been shut down twice in less than two years for the same problem that's not fair to the neighbor that's all well

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, people in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or any 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State, with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.
